So many uncs have been able to cling on despite everything from stats to team results saying they aren't worth the max anymore. I think the league being so offense friendly just keeps the door open for these vets and allows for copium from GMs and owners that they still got it. In the past once you lost a step you were more fucked because there was no spacing and more defense allowed so player's FG% would start to plummet. Now if you have a step back gather step 3 point shot and some old man strength you can still get shots up.

I mean I don’t disagree that a lot of these guys still have a place in the league. Harden is obviously still valuable, and probably will be for a few more years. But not on these contracts they give them. When you factor in they will get worse every year, and play less(on average) each year. Probably less minutes each year, etc etc. they need to be taking drastic pay cuts to account for that, or the contracts become very predictable dead weights keeping the team down. I just don’t understand what these teams are thinking.

>Clippers trading for an oft injured "star"
You're right but at the very least, Garland is only 26 years old. Even if he isn't going to win you a championship because he's clearly not a #1 or #2, at the very least 18PPG 7APG you can slot him in as the #3 a la Andrew Wiggins. Or worst case scenario, you use him as a trade piece for actual assets or draft capital. I know Minny is dick thirsty for Giannis but I was under the impression they desperately need a PG. Either way though this trade makes more sense for the Clippers. Meanwhile, Harden is a proven playoff choker. Trading a 26 yr old for a hobbled 36 yr old is kinda crazy to me. Cleveland would have to be huffing farts and really believe that this is their year.

The only guys i can think of are PG, butler and KD. But KD is still worth the money, PG is ironic bc the 76ers didn't want to pay harden but turned around and gave PG the max instead. The rest all resigned with their original team (bron, steph, kawhi, etc)

Clippers are just desperate to stay a playoff team with their new expensive arena and see the Unction as a safer bet than going full analytics and building a deeper younger team of underrated guys. It's like how Hollywood makes endless shitty remakes and sequels instead of trying to invest in anything new. IMO it's mostly backfired despite their recent run. They've had a crazy run just to still go sub .500.

Percentages have never mattered though. Harden has always been a bonafide chucker. I think his absolute best percentage was probably when he was coming off the bench back in OKC. Since he left and went to Houston he's been a glorified chucker with shit percentages...it's just that people don't care when you're averaging damn near 40 PPG.
>>153252794
>PG is ironic bc the 76ers didn't want to pay harden but turned around and gave PG the max instead.
This was retarded as fuck by them but I think the genuine thinking was that PG still played top tier defense. Which while PG may not be All-Defense level defender anymore, he's still 100x better than Harden defensively. I think they were banking on his defensive upside being >>> than just Harden's offense. Plus worst case scenario they probably figure they could lean on McCain, Maxey, and Embiid for offense. Don't really blame them for not wanting to pay Harden though, just like I don't really blame Miami for not wanting to pay Butler either. And as you said KD is still elite and worth the money. I would say the same thing for LeBitch but defensively the nigga plays like a 50 year old LA Fitness...the 25PPG he's giving you means nothing compared to what he's giving up defensively.

I think this year he's somehow got with FTs up again so analytics still have him as an above average so the Clippers were right to pick him over George Paul but would have been more right if they got rid of both players.

I can't think of a single year where people genuinely thought the Clippers were a serious contender or something to be worried about because every single year Kawhi's health was the topic of discussion. Keep in mind he missed a full year and the last 2 years he didn't even play 40 games. I remember I said in here that there was no way in hell they'd resign or extend Kawhi or PG and while I was right about PG (I was shocked that Philly paid him) and I was wrong that they'd extend Kawhi. At this point I think the Clippers just want names, which is why they grabbed Harden. And even got Russ as well. If you're an unc, then you remember how fucking DOG SHIT the Clippers were pre-Lob City era. It was literally the place you go when you were completely washed as fuck and just wanted an easy check. I'm not even shit talking, they were literally the place you went when you wanted to retire. I think with Balmer there they REFUSE to go back to that level of mediocrity so they're willing to spend, do illegal under the table deals, and pay whoever whatever just so that they can keep their hat in the ring, even if it it means getting their asshole gaped in the first round or play-ins.

klutch has just as many instances of losing the bag and it's just they have a strangle hold on the media so those get buried, and without Lebron's influence as an active player their power will drop and it'll happen more and more. Klutch will survive for a time because NBA contracts are guaranteed so even if they get no one new they'll last as long as their current clients remain in the league. But that shit is a ticking time bomb of arrogance without substance and that shit doesn't last with this much money involved.

Pic related are his FTAs. It's not like his free throw attempts are drastically fallen. I think there was one year where it was down to like 4.8 FTA but outside of that one year, he's always gotten around 6+ FTA, so I don't know what you mean by his foul baiting made up for his shit percentages. But as I said he's always been a chucker. He's hovered around 44% for most of his career with his career high being 49% his last year in OKC in 62 games played.

Like I said he got his FTs up again. They aren't prime level but 8.5 is still up from the last few years and is probably a quiet reason behind the Clipper's recent success. Foul baiting absolutely makes up for shit FG% and it's why we have metrics like True Shooting %. The graph of his overall production is obviously going down and bound to fall off a cliff again and I wouldn't pay Haren a bag.

02/03/26(Tue)05:52:18 No.153252926 I'm not mad at Cleveland pursuing Harden if they genuinely think this is their year. But giving up Garland for Harden is fucking retarded. You already have an issue of a small backcourt of guards that can't defend which won't win you shit (see: Dame/McCollum or Beal/Wall). You're trading a 26 yr old for a 36 year old, which is also retarded even if Harden is better offensively. Also, cashing all your chips in for one or two years and you don't win will be a fucking disaster.
Look at the Knicks. They soul their fucking soul to get KAT and Mikal there and completely mortgaged their future and are shaky as fuck this year and are already talking about moving on from Bridges who they raped their future for lol big market or not if they don't get a ring or at least a NBA Finals appearance in the next 2 years they are FUCKED.
Also keep in mind that the Cavs pretty much have fuck all draft capital already: 27 and 29 gone and 26 and 28 are swaps with the Spurs who will for sure be in the playoffs. Trading your good young assets for old ass niggas pushing 40 may not be the brightest idea. But you know these NBA GMs really think they're playing MyNBA in 2K.

This has always been the case though. Any player worth a shit can always just request a trade or be moved in a trade. Really great players rarely hit the market like that. And on the off chance that they do, they are almost ALWAYS restricted and teams will just match the offer anyway so it don't matter.
>>153252954
If they were smart they'd just overpay a bunch of shitters on 1 year deals and wait for 2027. As far as "names" there are much better names on that free agent class for 2027 but those dudes are also mostly old as shit:

>Deanthony Melton
Even if you remove the top half of this list and say those are untouchables, the role players alone are much better for 2027 than 2026...and this list is also unrestricted...that doesn't even take into consideration the restricted players that could possibly be sniped or moved on from. Bulls would be brain dead as FUCK to sign anybody long term this offseason, instead of just waiting until 2027.

Yes but what you have to remember that those players colluded for that. Remember originally it was supposed to be Melo, Lebron, and Wade. Melo being the greedy fuck that he was, decided to take the money instead of the shorter contract, so that's how it became Lebron, Wade, and Bosh. Shit like that rarely happens, the only other time I can think something like that happened was when KD+Kyrie decided to go play in New York...unless we're going backwards, which I guess Allen, KG, and Pierce but that was before Lebron and company did it. So 3 times in nearly 80 years.
>>153252999
It'll never happen because a lot of the players are already under paid based on the money they bring in. These teams are worth billions of dollars and they're only worth that shit because of said players playing for them. Lebron might be an old whiny sack of bitch, but he's being paid 60 mil a year, while generating billions for the teams he plays on. It's the same reason why everyone laughs at the WNBA since these chicks want to be paid millions while barely generating any type of money.
>>153252994
Your front office can't be THAT retarded can it? They've at least made moves to try and win which I can at least respect. I do think they need to get better at drafting though.
>>153252997
We're not talking about worthwhile, we're talking about going out and giving a bag. None of these players move the needle for Chicago and Coby White would be a resign, I forgot to remove him off the list. Simons is a glorified chucker. Grimes is alright. Honestly, they're better off waiting for 2027. Maybe sign one highly coveted guy that you can move at the deadline for draft stock and then hope you draft well+hit on someone in 2027.

Many literally said the exact same last year. Infact, even when Hali made it to the finals, ESPN retard panelists were still freaking about whether they could call him a "superstar" because their smallminded brains couldnt imagine a guard averaging 17 and 9, being as impactful as he was.
People did this shit, and still do this bullshit with Steve Nash to this day. ESPN can't anymore because theyre accolade merchants and Nash is literally employed with the NBA media or whatever.
Those who understand ball, understand that Garland is in that same category of underappreciated as Hali and Nash.
As for Cade? You know what. I actually give him some credit. Not as good a playmaker as Garland, and HARD carried by his height (ive seen garland make tougher finishes at the rim or get into the paint easier, but because hes shorter, hesess successful at finishing). But hes a genuinely solid defender, and at the very least, he can chuck his way enough to 25 points because nobody else on his team can handle the ball.
The true test of Cade, will be how he fairs alongside a better teammate who could demand as many or more touches than him.
Nash already experienced that (in an era where the PG was even less valued) alongside Dirk. But Nash is also like a top 3 passer ever, while also being a top 5 most efficient players ever, so hes excused of being ball dominant a bit more than most imo.

Formal instruction like at camps is overrated. When you're younger camps especially don't matter because you are not yet mature enough to understand what the drill is doing or how to implement it in a game. Once you're old enough to understand, you'll be in jr high and highschool where you'll be doing drills at practice. Playing pick up is what matters and experimenting that way is how most players improve in the end. That and playing actual games, of which there is no barrier for entry.
