Not sure what all the 'ooh ahh'-ing and "bold" chat over the Glamorgan declaration is about, as I said in a post yesterday morning Carlson was going to have to declare if he wanted Glammy to win the match, and there's no point declaring to win if you don't set the opposition a target that is reachable otherwise they just bat for draw. Obviously you don't set a too low a target for the time-frame but set a target that Yorkshire would have to go a a fair run-rate to reach, a 295 target with two sessions required Yorks to bat at around 4.5 rpo and the pitch had a good bit in it for the bowlers, especially the spinners.

Big part of the problem is you get 8 points for a draw and 16 for a win, so Essex win by an innings in 3 days and get 22 pts but Warks draw and get 16. So it encourages captains to play for draws.
