When a player drives this easily, you cant be too stuck up about their field goal percentages, especially as a 19 year old.

Rudy Gobert has a 73% field goal percentage on the season. You think thats because hes a better driver and finisher at the rim than Traore? Or is it simply that he has to do less complicated and physically taxing things, that require split second adjustments to put the ball in the basket at insane speeds, and angles than Traore?

And I think it must be something to do with expected contact, altering his shot on the basis of expected contact. You'll see some player miss shots when they do that, but theres no contact. Either that, or that combined with not understanding best angles to essentially guide the ball in while moving as fast as he does. The getting to the rim flashes are so good. But because of how he gets to the rim is dependent on such speed and craft, the finishes are either off balance, or rushed. This is part of why I don't pay too much attention to raw assist numbers, especially for rookies who can be playing with other rookies who can do stuff like this (Don't get me wrong, Traore obviously flubs shots like these two, but the difference is that theyre often off of self created drives, which is why I'm so high on him) I used to care about potential assists, until I realized you can inflate that too by just dominating the ball, or dominating the touches and passing the ball as much as possible, even when youre not really creating advantages. Also grenades count as potential assists, so thats another thing. Passing is another one of those stats I feel like analytics still struggles to capture.

Perfect example of how a players boxscore can look bad, and yet have an amazing game. I came into this game expecting a sort of bad game, because the boxscore said traore was inefficient, and didnt generate that many assists. Instead, I saw him generate a bunch of good looks that his teammates were just unlucky to capitalize on, and despite the boxscore saying Egor was the better playmaker, Egor felt like a complete non factor for most of that game because hes simply less dynamic than Traore. Doesnt get downhill as easily, and traore was destroying the spurs later in the game, running into dribble handoff screen and getting deep in the paint for easy floaters. They started dropping hard on him, because he also generated the most amount of successful lobs on the team, and unfortunately it worked because the floater just wasn't going in this game. But its positive stuff to see how easily he would break down the defense and get into the paint easily, and that he could affect the defense so much that they guard to defend the lob over his floaters

I'll seriously have to go on the NBA site and watch how Egor got those 9 assists, because when I say he was a complete non factor this game, I'm serious. Got burned on defense multiple times. And was just doing nothing on offense. I have to assume he only got more assists because the players he passed to were more lucky at putting up shots.

Another flaw of egor, is that because hes just not that good of a ball handler, and has no sauce. He constantly picks up his dribble to throw slow two handed long passes, rarely does he pass out of a live dribble, or pass on the move. Its why the amount of nets fans I see on twitter hyping him as the best nets rookies tells me how little normie fans understand about ball.

I get that people see the 3 point shot and project off that, but thats silly
