Other people will liken this to when you're driving a familiar route and do it automatically, and when you get home you don't remember making the actual turns etc. Trance makes your subconscious able to take control like this even if you're not distracted, which can feel like losing control of your body.

In addition to that, there's the magic circle effect. This is how your brain reacts when you're playing a game and, for instance, you'll pull away from someone trying to tag you because you understand that the rules are that you don't want to get tagged. When you yank your arm away, it's not because you're thinking of the direct effect of being tagged, but your brain makes a shortcut to quickly react to the rules of the game.
