There was also a bunch of different/altered pages on the Broadsword Comics pages back in the day as well. There was a bunch of more explicit stuff they couldn't print in the main comic at the time - nothing you wouldn't find in it these days, now they've gotten more lax with the nudity, but I've never seen these alternate pages anywhere since.

There's more suggestions, but here's the real truth: Comics are made for children. At least until more recently(90s and onward), where they're made for "modern audiences" but only bought by collectors/completionists.
I hope you're not looking at comics from other languages/cultures/countries as anything different.

The general advice that people give, is to find a character that you think is cool/interesting, and then just read a few issues of the various authors' runs, to see if any of it is something that connects with you.
Comics aren't "high art", and even the really good comics(regardless of the culture they're from), are still going to have less literary value than a classic book. The best comics/manga are still below average, when compared to a book.
Set your expectations properly.

Comics tend to be juvenile, but just like pulp mags, were catered for teenagers and college age guys even in the 60s. Just look at the advertisements they plastered. Job training, money schemes, fitness guides, and cures for male pattern baldness. It's simple. Young men don't want things only for kids, but if you make something a male teenager or college guy could enjoy, young kids will want it too.
This is why super heros tanked in popularity around the 50s and again later. That's when they got very campy and childish. There were also imprints and lines of comics primarily for children, and they're largely forgotten.
