Im looking for some level of commitment, you dont have to show up to every session but I need enough people to show up to each session in order to run a game.
Fully fleshed out KotBL to start. West marches style campaign meaning if you want to show up, if you cant you cant, no issues either way. The campaign as a whole is a sandbox although there might be hooks for one or two session adventures that lean a bit more railroady, you will have to (both literally or figuratively) explore the sandbox to find most of those though.
I will not giving a ton of info to the players about how the system is working, in a super old school style. Players will still roll and have a sheet but you will not know everything that is going on in the rules.
It will probably be rather lethal if you don't take things slow
THIS IS NOT 5e OR ANYTHING CLOSE, if you come in assuming that it is like 5e you will be wrong.
I tend to run mostly theater of the mind so no VTT. If you want maps you will have to draw one yourself, there may be some regional maps available for purchase in game but no guarantees those are any more accurate than what a medieval peasant could draw without cartography gear

The kind of person who needs to find a table in the Game Finder Thread is the sort of person who has been rejected from 2hufag/Edna's table. Do not allow them in at all costs. Literally any other thread on the board would be preferable, or even on another board or site entirely. The Game Finder Threads are filled with misfits among misfits.

Would be really curious to join in a Lancer round just to see how the "Narrative," aspect of play functions. I have ambitions to run my own game but I'm really struggling to wrap my head around the idea of how to weave a narrative and would love to see how others do it.
If I join a more fantasy oriented game I would kill for something with a lot of intrepid trekking/exploration in order to reach dungeouns to plunder, something where things like the Survival skill would come in useful

I am starting a game inspired by old school play-by-mail games. Players send me instructions for what they want to do, and twice a week I read everyone's instructions, compare them against each other, and adjudicate what happens. I have created a custom system for this game that I think provides and covers what I need to run this game (a more broad system as opposed to something like D&D which is a tactical combat simulator ala X-com more than anything else nowadays)
This is a game set in a loosely-defined world with a similar setup too, and large inspiration from fallout and adventure time; a scifi world plunged into apocalypse rebuilds as a mideval fantasy world with occasional old-world tech sprinkled about. It's very much an improv world/setting where once things are established they become cannon.
the GM (I) will be doing the rolls and mechanical side of the game behind the screen, to players it will seem mostly like a text-RP Game.
If you're interested, please DM me on discord!

I started recruiting players in game finder threads back in 2011 or so for IRC games. I've seen a lot of flakes, a lot of warm body type players, and a small number of people i still talk and play with to this day.
>>
>>97450668
Not to mention people who wanna play voice, but cannot ensure a good mic, good connection, and a quiet fucking background for it.
Or have accents so thick that you need chainsaw to cut through it.
Nothing inherently wrong with voice, it's just should be played with people you already know, and didn't salvage from a Game Finder Thread.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>97419315
I recruited from a Gamefinder thread about month ago and my players have been mostly great. Having a simple form to fill out filtered out the shitters. Only 3 people out of the like 9 who showed interest actually bothered filling out the form.
I like 2hufag and most of his work but I'd never want to play with him. He's very much an optimize the fun out of the game kind of guy and playing with him would probably be miserable. I would happily chat with him but I've played with people who backseat optimize everyone else's characters and it sucks. *cough* erachima and Dr Pepper from the 4e Discord *cough*
>>

>>
>>
>>97451844
I did. And then next session they'd do it again. I wasn't the GM so I had no power over actually making them stop. I was the only one of the group who wasn't using a super optimized build even though its not like the GM was running a game where it was necessary. The game ended up fizzling after like 7 sessions anyway due the GM's job making him travel too much but those two are in every US timezone game posted the the 4e Discord so I've played with them a couple times.
erachima is at least a good player when he's not trying to build your character for you. Dr Pepper sucks and plays his dwarf waifu every single game and then cries when she takes any damage as if he didn't roll her up as a Fighter.

The Discord has like 2 or 3 new games posting in LFG a week. Its just some people, like those two, are in a lot of games. Like sometimes more than 1 a day. When I last played with erachima we were his second game of the day. Also like 99% of online games fizzle after a handful of sessions so its back to filling that timeslot when the game inevitably crumbles under the weight of flakes and scheduling.
I know other people who are like that too. Another player in a nonD&D game I'm in on Sundays is in like 4 other games. Every work night he gets off work and plays tabletop and then his days off are his break days. Tbh I think that's too much. I'm in 2 games, 1 as GM and 1 as a player, and that already feels like a lot of time each week.

I'm in the 4e Discord, and 3 different Pokemon Tabletop Discords that are all around the same size, like 4kish people, and the 4e Discord by far has the most populated LFG section. 4e has its like 2 or 3 a week, the most popular Pokemon one has about 1 a week, the next about 1 every 2 weeks if you don't include random players blindly looking for groups and the last one hasn't had a new LFG post in like a month but it has spikes where it will have like 6 one week and then none for over a month.
Is the server you are in a general gamefinder one or only for a specific game? I feel like you get a lot more people asking in general ones that game specific ones.

PTU
One guy has a mic that makes the one that came free with your Xbox 360 sound like one of those fancy 3d ASMR mics in comparison. He also has a pretty thick accent and has at least one computer crash a session. The saving grace is that he's the shyest of the players so we don't have to struggle to understand him that often.
Everyone else has been genuinely great.

WWN Sandbox with faction warfare and political events, kind of serious, kind of gritty.
The focus is on a smaller region where people are rebuilding after a world spanning catastrophe. Lots of lingering threats, political instability and hints of greater threats on the horizon. Great change is coming, the players can be the agents of this change, or try to prevent it. Or head out and do their own thing.

Oh hey, that's me.
>One guy has a mic that makes the one that came free with your Xbox 360 sound like one of those fancy 3d ASMR mics
Yeah, sorry about that. Honestly because it genuinely is but the real battle I'm actually fighting is against the noise filter. My microphone has a static problem, so I absolutely have to use rnnoise, but my voice seems to be outside of the voice profile it's good with (?) and so half my voice ends up getting dropped. Now I can speak in a different tone, which I try to during the sessions, but unfortunately, the natural inertia of your voice is too difficult to fight against and I very quickly get back to my voice getting slaughtered by rnnoise, but I'm trying to fix that, as best as I can, with my limited audio engineering experience.
>He also has a pretty thick accent and has at least one computer crash a session
The voice cuts may be contributing to the accent here, but the greater issue with the computer crashes is more about network disconnections as my computer hasn't really crashed in two weeks, and I tracked the previous crashes back to faulty power management. It shouldn't resurface again for the forseeable future. The network stuff, unfortunately is currently out of my power, because the ISP refuses to unblock P2P traffic, which also for some reason blocks discord calls, and so I have to split tunnel through a VPN. I'll probably be switching away soon.
That all, said, yes I still take 10 minute breaks in the middle of the session, because I only have a brief window to get my slop food to fill my belly since I don't cook.
tl;dr is that yes, technology hates me, but I'm sorry for burdening you with me, either way, and you've been a wonderful host and GM. I'll be working on fixing the audio and network issues over the next 2 weeks, and hopefully I'll be a little less bad of a player by the next session.

>I only have a brief window to get my slop food to fill my belly since I don't cook.
How is this possible? Don't they have stores where you live? I also don't cook, but I have the decency to eat some other time than during a game session. Honestly, if I were the GM, I'd dump your ass immediately.
>>
>>97461982
>the most popular Pokemon one has about 1 a week, the next about 1 every 2 weeks if you don't include random players
Yeah, but if you also exclude the paid and the games asking for pronouns, that number drops really fucking hard.
>>
>>97469249
I will say it is getting better. When we sat down for character creation I almost kicked you because it sounded like you were calling from a tin can in a hurricane but you had shown way more initiative than anyone else that I was willing to give you a chance. Your quality was a lot more intelligible this past week so maybe in a couple more weeks we'll get you talking and understood as much as Spiff.
>>
>>97470397
Those numbers actually are excluding the paid games. At least on the Pokemon servers since those shunt the StartPlaying retards into their own section.
Finding any game online without the pronoun nonsense is hard. Its partly why I recruited here. Almost no one is going to cry giant bitch tears when someone they met on 4chins calls something a retarded niggerfaggot.
I had thought about recruiting on KiwiFarms but those faggots are so desperately afraid of being doxed and shamed that they refuse to unless they can have like 4 levels of anonymity. If you don't act like a completely autistic retard spaz then no one going to go back to the website and call you a complete autistic retard spaz. Its really that easy.
>>
>>97470080
>you sound like a real slob of a human being
That I am, a little, but more so I'm just poor. Turns out the only good place to be an embedded engineer is in late 2000s to mid 2010s China.
>>97470215
Perfectly rational point, but I want to.
>>97470361
>How is this possible? Don't they have stores where you live?
You got it actually. I live in a somewhat remote place here, and I basically pay a kitchen to make four meals for me everyday. They don't deliver things, so it's a five minute walk to not waste my money.
I am working on optimizing that out too though. I may be a horrible player, but the one thing I can say for myself is lack of effort to try and improve where I can.
I am much newer and younger than everyone else in the group, so I will have to get a lot of shit together to make it work eventually.
>Honestly, if I were the GM, I'd dump your ass immediately.
Perfectly understandable
>>97470468
Thanks and yeah, I sit down for thirty minutes to an hour before every session or other times during the week when I have the time to improve my audio quality through some audio engineering, so hopefully I'll get it working well soon. A microphone change is also on the table, if I get the time during my rare visit to civilized society the coming week.
