Something else I have in mind for Star Rush GP, considering people do care most about the combat aspects, is a dichotomy between tech/items and something that I’m currently calling Star Power. In-universe, it’s similar to the Force, a pool of power that those with great willpower can access. Anyone from any Origin could use it, but some would find it easier than others. The “little guys”, AKA whatever I call the Kirby-likes, for example, would probably have it for free, while other Origins might have to get it separately. It would give access to an assortment of powers, although it would also motivate you to rely less on your Craft for weaponry. My idea is: you can be a Silver Surfer sort of guy with cosmic powers, but you’d probably end up with a smaller vehicle like a hoverboard with one or no weapon slots on it. Star Power is also a fuel source. Those with access to it can more or less fuel their craft with their willpower, but Star Power can also be sucked out of people and put into batteries.

Dichotomy:

>a lot of items/weapons on bigger crafts

I don’t wanna railroad builds, though. I want to let people mix and match and maybe even have some tech AND some Star Power abilities. This is also to encourage people who might have a wreck in the middle of an arena and then they get out of the craft and fight one-to-one.

Sounds cool? Too much bloat? I’m definitely going to focus on vehicle options first and foremost, but I want to offer variety.

I plan to use Ai heavily in this, but given the time discrepancy, I'm wondering what to actually do. Kaoru and Ai will break into Saito Mimi's apartment to get evidence and KnK will reveal itself to them, worm Ai, and then Kaoru will come back without Ai. Ai will be missing for a day or so, and she'll have gone mad from the worms, setting up a later confrontation that ends in Kaoru revealing herself as Scarlet Senshi to the other half of the Student Council that doesn't know. Maybe I should have HLA Recruitment happen in that time, so that the KnK love worms feel like an added motivation for Ai joining the HLA? And then they might send Kentaro to go find her or something. Oh fuck that's actually pretty good, I think. Kaoru goes off to find Ai on her own, Yae gets the Student Council to go on their own search, Itsuro sends Kentaro to find Ai. When all three parties find Ai, big fight happens, Kaoru unmasks, emotional moment, Ai seems to be cured of the worms, but she agrees to stay with the HLA. Then, Rin gets them outta there with a Garganta, letting the Student Council know that the HLA exists but without telling them who the other half is, and Kentaro and Rin report to Itsuro and Kenji that there's a 6th Idolon user with the SC, doubting whether it's Kaoru or not. If you had ONE childhood friend, and having that friend got your family killed, wouldn’t you be scared of having another friend, especially in those vulnerable teenage years? That guilt, that thought of “trusting someone got my family killed”, you’d probably find it really hard to ever trust someone that same way again. I think you guys are reading this right, in a sense, but character arcs are like this. A character has a flaw, they do something wrong or self-destructive, and they learn to be better over time.

The forced part is that I don't see how dressing up in a costume and hiding your identity actually follows from this. If anything, I'd expect someone that this happened to distance themselves from fighting as much as possible; actually just staying in a support role or even acting "neutral" because she doesn't want herself or people she cares about to be thrust into danger and fear of betrayal, or acting rogue in the sense that she ACTUALLY acts as a third party loner and isn't just another SC member in functionality. If anything, the logical conclusion to this is for her to hate Ai for actually joining the HLA, and instead of magically overcoming her trauma just in time, attempting to alienate her further because she can't be trusted. I don't really see why and how this trauma was overcame. Batman's trauma directly relates to being a scared little boy coping and wanting to ensure that nothing like that happens again. If he and his Joker Boner actually accomplish that is up for debate because DC writing sucks.

See why does this emotional aspect actually matter? A traitor wouldn't care about her emotions; they'd do something to hurt her or people she cares about if she was hiding her identity (poorly to be added) or not. Again, this is the most important piece of the puzzle; her being paranoid, nosy, and keeping an eye on people is a reasonable thing, but this part is supposed to be the very core of her flaws.

My intention with that was that, by pretending not to be Awakened, and forming a different persona to fight in the Idea World, Kaoru would get to keep one shred of her personality and identity to herself, and she wouldn’t have to entirely expose herself as a person to the Student Council. If she acts like she can’t fight, and she can keep part of her inner world to herself, she can avoid talking about her reasons to fight and her trauma with them, she can avoid telling them how much she actually cares about them, it’s a pretty big deal I think. But at this rate I understand that I could’ve gone a little deeper into it and made the secret more logically believable and less reliant on the character’s hesitance to open her heart.
