Adobe Acrobat is too intrusive, to the point of being malware. I installed it once, not again.

Speechify is not free. Edge works fine (it's the same engine used by the obsidian plugin), but as most browsers it uses too much memory and cpu even if you're just using it as a text to speech tool, so I wondered if there was something lighter.

Googling that type of thing doesn't provide sensible info. Sure, you can find some pages with "10 best stuff to do whatever stuff" lists which just collects what says in the app website.

As an example, when it comes to readers in tablets, the Kodo is unbeatable for epubs, I haven't found anything like it. For pdfs, the Xodo version 5.0.22 is as good as it gets. After that version, it went downhill, but that version was just perfect. It's the one I use. You don't get that type of info by googling. Sure, you can get a general list of apps generated by AI in 20 seconds, but without personal user experience, that type of info is mostly useless.

A lot of 2e stuff is so old its just on the internet archives. Or, search for ultimate tr0ve t0rrents on r3dd1t. Download the Dungeons & Dragons one. Open it and select the 2e stuff you want. There is also the3y3 some people can still get to work, and thetr0ve still works but doesnt have a lot of the pdfs anymore, maybe you can get lucky. There is scr1bd and downloaders, there is pdfcoffee and other pdf sites. The older the stuff, the better the chance of it being found. I am very certain you can find any 2e stuff you need.
