Mordheim as we are actually in middle of preparation to start campaign (making terrain and bands)

TQ: Necromunda. A lot, but that seems to be the norm for Necro. We ignore anything to do with "Law abiding" and " Outlaw" gangs, allow fighters to discard weapons, and allow gangs to hire any hangers on they want. We also have a rule that anyone can set a bounty on any fighter, any time they want. Just pay the creds into a pot and inform the group.

Now that made me curious. I haven't played a single game of MESBG since second edition (the two towers box). Has the game changed a lot in this years? Is there any value or any interest to play older editions, or is there a "golden" one?
>>

>>
>>
>>97457445

It really looks tempting.
>>
>>
Where is the previous /gwsg/ thread? Was it blasted to the Immaterium? I cannot find it in the archive.
>>97457419
The game is still very similar, with more heroic actions and changes to the ratio of heroes to troops, to avoid pure spam (now each hero may command up to 6,12,15, 18, 24 troops depending on the hero's importance). The new edition was the first one since the original one that added a new stat, Intelligence, and so it is not as compatible with previous publications.
I think the current edition has the best base rules. However, listbuilding has been absolutely butchered to pander to tourneyfags and several factions have been eliminated (Khand, Far Harad...).
As a result, I would recommend sticking with the previous edition, which wasn't bad at all and had a large amount of supplements. Perhaps skip the special strikes, as they slow down gameplay for little gain. This is what large parts of the fandom have done.
If you however find the One Rulebook (big blue one, from circa 2005) and its supplements for cheap, that is also a very good version, if you have friends keen to play it (I would be).
>>
>>97459858
>If you however find the One Rulebook (big blue one, from circa 2005)
That book is not the same as the blue one included with the Return of the King box, isn't it? I dropped the game just after the "Shadow and Flame" supplement, so I have no idea about what happened all these years, so it would be the same effort re-starting the game using whatever game edition. By the way, it's nice to see they're selling the exact same miniatures as back then (but at thrice the price, quite literally).
>>
>>
>>97460906
No, that one is softcover and has a scene of TRotK on the cover, whereas the one I am referring to just has the One Ring on a blue background, and is hardcover.
GW has ramped up prices, there is no denying it, but for MESBG they are actually lower than 10 years ago (excluding characters), when they went bananas with the War of the Ring and almost killed the game.
I would find out what edition people around you are playing and give that one a go, but my choice wold be 2018 edition, not the 2024 one. It is hard to overstate how shit and restrictive the listbuilding has gotten.
Tourneyfags, and those who listen to them at GW, should be dropped into Mt. Doom.

Thinking of setting up a blood bowl night with three pals. Assuming I get the starter set, what are the other two slots best filled with?
I'd like to have a good spread of play styles. Failing that, I'd go for flavour, so having humans and undead already, I could go for elves, dwarves or orcs I guess.
>>
>>
>>97463850
So, none of you have layed before and none of you have yet invested in rulebooks or miniatures?
Then you have a more affordable set of options.
The man who invented the game came up with a finished set of rules some years ago, what GW is currently doing is not laytested and has no concern about game balance, its product movement as a design goal.
So that FREE set of rules is called Living Rule Book 6 or LRB6 for short, it has always been free and its design goal was a fun play experience, not profit gneration.
For miniatures there is 3D printing which is the cheapest option, but if you or your buddies don't have a resin printer then there are also third party comanies selling them and the 3d prints are available on etsy, the advantage being that every 3rd party set of miniatures is sold in one package as a complete team, all roster positions in one go, GW doesn't offer that and buying multiple boxes leaves you with useless extras of positionals and linemen.
third arties also sell pitches in the form of vinyl or cloth mats which are more durable than the GW options and also have useful charts for passing and injury/weather rolls on the sidelines, GW's folding cardboard pitches wear out.
As for teams if you're looking for intro friendly balance then amazons are pretty much the go to option, second to those you might try a humans roster which has flexibility, but can induce paralysis of choice as well, orcs having the same pro/con combo, norse aren't quite as intro friendly as amazons, but aren't bad, chaos chosen are almost equal to amazons in being intro friendly, but they're more about bash than they are about scoring, high elves are a good starter option in the same vein as amazons and in many ways could be seen as amazons+, though their individual players are expensive.
a trio mirror match setup of all amazons would be the "fairest" split, but may not be appealing as there is no variety of playstyle, but third party gives each coach a unique model theme
>>
>>97463920
>So, none of you have layed before and none of you have yet invested in rulebooks or miniatures?
Correct.
>FREE set of rules
Sounds good.
>3D printing
Alas, more of a problem. I want to point out that there's a fair number of teams still in boxes that go around for about half price, and I could maybe even grab the starter set. That's why I'm even considering this. Plus, I prefer to work with plastic in general. But I will keep this in mind.
>pitches
I was actually considering getting a phelt table cover or something, are the squares necessary for gameplay, or are they just for flavor?
>team suggestions
Thanks anon, I will look around and see what I can find.

Painting/carving the lines is tedious shit.
I reccomend getting square tiles (i found wokden ones) and alternating them with filled in sand Opicrelated) it's fast, neat and is visually identifiable without painting a grid or corners leaving you free to paint only the sideline and halfway markers which is much cleaner, picrelated WIP

And a variant of the game at full scale, the last two being a reduced size travel version.
Just a couple sheets of foamcore, wood tiles, craftpaint, pva glue and some printed resin bits for thematic decor, pitch total cost ~$10-$15

for non-printing third party, here.
Comixininos was for a very long time the best in bringing together third party options in one webstore but it seems they've gone out of business and sold their remaining stock to noble knight, so these options won't be around forever and if you and your friends do enjoy the game and wish to expand, then one of you should get a resin printer and start hanging out on the telegram channels for files as there are hundreds of different themed team options by more than a dozen sculptors, if you print even just 3-4 teams each you'll have saved enough from not buying GW to cover the cost of the printer itself.

They are both from the 2018 edition of MESBG.
The one with a square photo of some Gondorians is the older one, the one with a round picture of some dwarves from the Hobbit films is the updated one, including some White Dwarf stuff, FAQs and replacing the campaign with a new one.
Battle Companies in that edition was shit, horribly balanced, with poorly thought campaign development. This community version is far better (yes I know, reddit, sorry):

Tbh it's very clearly implied that all the abhuman/xeno rumors are just rumors and the nomads are just old necromunda inhabitants that live in underground cities in the wastes. they are human. they also recruit from the surface considering one of helmawr's daughters was recruited and got to become a tribe shaman or something and you can clearly see that she's human due to her tits. anyone thinking theyre xenos or buglike is retarded at this point.

Game is completed, the models are still on sale because of Legion Imperialis, another game that use these models but also use tanks, infantry, aircraft....Beside Knights there were the mechanical spiders that were added when Legion Imperialis got them.
It's a good game, and being a completed GW game is more of a blessing because you can play the game in peace without worrying about GW releasing new slops which most likely will be unbalanced.

Hey friend, I don’t have rulebook, but I DO have a suggestion. Prayers to Nuffle, early and often. Totally worth 30k of your starting roster for 3 rolls on the table and also as an active use of your gold throughout a league. When you get your scan and see the table, you’ll understand.

Got a gang concept I'd like to work on - Admech splinter group seeking secrets on Necromunda and end up becoming chaos-corrupted, so a strong Dark Mech theme.
Mechanically, they'd have a Heretek hanger-on and lean heavily into using rad-phage and to a lesser extent gas/toxin/blaze weapons. Models would have a lot of the admech killteam parts or similar.
I'm not sure about the best gang to do this. Options I can see are:
-Chaos-corrupted Van Saar - either nurgle (disease/cancer/radiation) or tzeentch (mutation/knowledge/tentacles). Tzeentch probably mechanically better and fits seeking forbidden knowledge better. However, no autoguns with rad rounds.
-Outcasts with Van Saar heritage - big advantage here is I can have psykers (which I want to lean into), downside is access to weapons/rarity is more limited. I want to use the Heretek to buff the grav-cannon and start firing tac nukes everywhere.
-Venators with Van Saar leader - probably the strongest and most flexible option as it allows me to get ogryns and fluff them as mechanical constructs/daemon-corrupted servitors, ratlings with autoguns and rad rounds to lean into the radiation theme.
Any other gang ideas that would fit this or ways to approach the above?

>LGS announces a new Necromunda league
>Painstakingly convert a Venators gang from Kill Team's inquisition and novitiates teams
>Even plan to commission a painter once the campaign is underway
>Go to sign up and the arbitrator takes me aside. Says the campaign is not allowing venators
>Apparently he has this idea to have 2 of each house gang represented and one player each for enforcers, helots, mailstrain etc
>I start to argue and he just straight up says he was trying to let me down easy but I'm not welcome because everyone dreaded playing against my Corpsegrinders last year
>I try to see if the LGS owner will intervene because I spend hundreds each month but he seems really annoyed like I'm bothering him and says he doesn't want to meddle in the leagues
I don't understand gaming sometimes. Like your supposed to try to win but if you try too hard and cross this invisible boundary everyone hates you? No one at FNM acts like this, it's always the miniatures and roleplaying groups
>>
>>97477452
>CGC
>Venators
Yeah you're a power gaming meta munchkin and Necromunda is narrative game.
The only thing I see issue with here is that the GM is still allowing enforcers, malstrain and so on in addition to the house gangs and also enforcing a distribution of gangs.
So the GM has some issues too, but not as much as you do.
I would choose not to play in this group if ou were in it, but I would also not to choose to lay in it for this GM dictating faction choice granularly.
>>
>>97477452
>Like your supposed to try to win but if you try too hard and cross this invisible boundary everyone hates you?
Maybe try to read the room next time? Unless there're some prize for winning (which is retarded idea btw), the only thing you'll get for try harding in a Necromunda campaign is that you'll be put into the Hall of Fame of That Guy.
Maybe you had the false assumption that winning in Necromunda make you the genius mastermind and the rest are underdeveloped tribesmen. Well they already made a perfect for that mindset, it's Killteam.

A local printer, yes, if you can pirate the files.
But if you're going to go the route of etsy, or if you're going to buy the files and then pay someone to print them (even a local) then it's going to be cheaper to just order them from punga.
As for delivery times, I have no comment on that.
But printing is not lucrative as a business model because too many people have their own printers, so printers overcharge and sculptors price their files almost like physical minis, buying the files and the prints ends up being more expensive than GW.
If you intend to get more than one thing ever from a printer then you need to be getting your own printer.

Tile Seperators are handy if you're scratch-building a board. They're plastic, cheap as hell, come in different sizes, and you can grab them from most hardware stores. Glue them to your backboard in the grid pattern, spray paint if needed, then fill in with your surface of choice (sand/flock/static grass etc). After that you can add your details like endzones and halfway lines etc.

If you want the cracked mud effect of that specific board youll need to use clumping unscented cst litter mixed with sand and putty it in, a bit of work scraping tge tops (while still wet) to keep it all flush.
end result was great, but unintenional, I was almost out of sand but had just bought a new pail of litter for the catbox.
the beach bowl pitch is just sand, still a good texture, but none of that cracking effect.

no... buying the newest thing which is the most OP thing makes you a paypig, defending this as a fair choice when it is not consistent with the game lore makes you a shill, saying that the newest released product is a source of the lore rather than a retcon makes you a newfag.

I love mordheim but going back through the rules to refamiliarize myself what was GWs deal with the WS and BS numbers? Regular warhammer fantasy was like that too wasn't it, with a 6 being the best and 1 the worst? Why wasn't it 3 meand on a 3 or better you hit like the modern games?
>>
>>97490658
Because back in the day WS was worked out from a table based on comparison of your vs your enemies WS values. The change to X+ to hit happened with AoS, at least insofar as mainline games, because they decided it was time to dumb it down for the new audience they were aiming for. And now we have some GW systems that are back to a comparison system, but it is a nice and simple one based on equal, greater than or less than, and whether it is greater or less than by double. Which has origins in earlier GW games like Blood Bowl for example.

I love it, but I am not exactly impartial about it.
I needed a bit of time to get used to the hexmap and overall scale but to me it felt very solid. The minis are great. The campaign mechanisms work fine. And my love fo the setting is unending.
A couple of years ago you could get Combat Arena: Lair of the Beast for like 20 euros on some german website, got a couple of them which regroups the heros of the base game + a old school marine + an ambull, great for converting for Necromunda/inq28
I have a fuckload of spindle drones on the side, Guardian Drones as well. I use them for my embryo of a project of alternative location for Necromunda/Dungeon crawler. My only regret is that I never got a Zoat.

>>97498168
As a non hardcroe fan: The game is good. Not as nice n complex as descent, gloomhaven or other good games of this type, (gets a bit more repetitive with time is one of the biggest problems i would say. also heroes are kinda unbalanced and the tools that you have to your disposial are rare and often not that unique). One of the problems many such games have: you need to play 4 heroes. making it only playable solo or with 2 or 4 players (playing the npc's is recommendet with 3 or 5 players but that is shit).

Why not just ask him to give you a huge disadvantage or something in play, so that you can play whatever faction you like and they don't have to worry about your curbstomping them?
They probably just don't want to fight against you because you will win a bit TOO hard. You winning too hard means they loose way too fucking hard. Loosing is one thing, but nobody likes getting rolled super hard without any chance of survival.
Also paint your fucking minis you actual shit slurping mutant. It is a form of etiquette you owe to the people around you. I bet you don't even bathe, nigger.

>>97477452
There are two types of players.
Those that have fun playing and talking to others, that see all this as a game an community event (not taking things to serious).
And those that have fun winning, seeing all this as a competition.
You SEEM to be the later and are more suited for other games i guess. Necromunda is an unbalanced mess and you need others to be chivalrous to have fun and get cinematic moments n such.

Well first of all put it on a base that is appropriate for the size of the miniature, secondly I'd suggest an Ambot, it doesn't look like one but the size is right, it does look like you could call it a miner and the only large robot available for a gang is the Ambot.
