Does this just refer to aggressive marketing that then disappears completely when it's time to consume new product?

I own a robin hood castle with a dragon so that at least is not correct. It's fucked in a box somewhere. Should be this one.

>Elemental Magic
>Horror which isn't scary
These ones are fine by me personally. Neither should be an always-on thing but sometimes you want to play a fire mage or in a Scooby Doo type game where the vampires go bleh.

I think OP's mention of it has more to do with elemental magic systems that just treat elements as a different flavor, rather than something fundamental.

Having a fireball or earthquake spell is cool. Having a fireball/frostball/thunderball which all behave the same except some enemies resist it is boring. It's the people who get too autistic about elemental systems being perfectly symmetrical and everything slotting neatly into place.

Gaming really should have stayed as outsider art. For nerds and by nerds. Bringing in a bunch of normies and greedy investors always makes things worse.

>14. Progressive agenda or politics
>16. Reactionary agenda or politics

I'd argue that nerd stuff was made great by the insane ideologies bouncing off each other in the 70's/80's/90's. Consider how great 1982's Conan the Barbarian was because John Milius is a right-wing nutjob and Oliver Stone is a left-wing nutjob. Same with tabletop. Gygax's weird libertarianism. WoD's gnosticism. Mormonism in settings like Dragonlance. Warhammer's weird references to shit like Thatcherism.

It's the introduction of generic centrist liberal shit that messes up games. The politics of your work's HR lady. It shifts the focus to culture war nonsense to keep people from doing things that globohomo actually hates(protesting wars/Israel, starting unions, etc) and the retards fall for it every time.

Where?

Man I remember the last good thread on this board, was about making a setting out of Lego space themes. That was several years ago now.

>1. Critical role
Fine enough, but it is annoying having fans expecting Mercerian games and being utterly new as a player.
>2. Disneyfication
Absolutely. Over-sanitized takes by Americans who didn't understand the source material or culture, and basically rewrote it based on their own.
>3. Dropshippers
No idea what this is.
>4. Elemental magic (fireball, iceball, earthball, windball)
No. E-magic is fun.
>5. Extended universes
Annoying, but the autism is respectable, and it's fun working out the nuances.
>6. Fantasy which isn't fantastical
Correct. Fantasy requires fantastic stuff. Otherwise, it's alt history.
>7. Franchises
Also true. Corporate commercialization of art makes good things go bad.
>8. Horror which isn't scary
Fair. But that's what thrillers are, and what's scary for one, isn't for another.
>9. Hype cycles
Also existed in early hobby. It was just smaller due to lack of big branding.
>10. Influencers
Some youtubers are cool with it. But most are shit.
>11. Journalists
Agreed. They never know about anything.
>12. Kickstarter scams
Also true, but I'd put it down more to fail then scheme.
>13. Performative positivity
Agreed. Not needed. Though even those who claim to hate it like to see it at least once.
>14. Progressive agenda or politics
Agreed, but generally it's pretty easily brushed over.
>15. Quirky cringe XD
Deserves the noose. Very hard to brush over.
>16. Reactionary agenda or politics
Also deserves the noose. It's like 'Progressive agenda or politics', but orders more insistent upon itself.
>17. Self-censorship, obedience to consensus.
Obedience to consensus is just inevitable for any hobby where there's a 'correct' and 'incorrect'. Self censorship is generally gay though, unless it's a shit take they repeatedly make, that everyone else agrees is shit.
>18. Sponsors and product placement
Also gay, but rarely ever see it desu ne.
>19. Voice actors and the likes
Nah, VA's are good
>20. Zim/Zam prounoun stuff
Based if scifi, cringe if irl.
