Do you remember the Wildlife Wednesday threads?
Okay, hear me out. I miss them a little and would like to revive them with a twist to keep things interesting.
The twist being that we specify a biome for each thread and exclusively discuss and post art of wildlife (and possibly plant life) that would fit into this specific environment.
This offers the long-term possibility of creating biome themed folders which can be used as a resource for random encounters or inspiration in your RPG campaigns.

I'll take the liberty of getting things rolling by sharing some pictures to establish the vibe.

I always imagined elven forests to be teeming with weird, probably dangerous shit.
Imagine something like picrel floating through the air, or wrapped around tree branches like spanish moss. Its lengthy serpentine arms always feeling the environment and slithering around for prey

Forests, like the deep sea, are metaphorically considered spaces of the unconscious, so I think combining them can be kino if you can make it work.

>Sleeper vine
A plant similar to poison ivy in looks, but releases a gas that makes one sleepy. During the night it latches on to it's victim and leeches their life force. Usually the vine grows on old willow trees.
>Fairy ring
A mushroom that releases spores when someone steps in the middle of the ring. Drains willpower and takes over the minds of the weak willed.
>Elfwood
A large aspen like tree, that has eye like bark. Creates a forest of clone trees, that share the same root. If the wood is damaged, it releases pheromones that attract near by animals and make them aggressive. Usually in the elfwood forests the atmosphere is thick and suffocating, and is extremely silent.
>Normal animals
The usual moose, badgers, rabbits and so on. In the elven forests they act unusually, calm animals are aggressive, shy animals stand around in the open, docile animals may attack you.
Sometimes the animals feel like they are mixed up, deer having canine teeth, bear having goat eyes. If the animal is killed, the meat tastes weird.
>Sprites
Small humanoid creatures that sing and dance. They don't seem to notice you, but you can't seem to reach them.
>Lady of the woods
An attractive naked woman, may lead you to an early death or maybe you'll be their faithful husband till the end of days...

That's all that comes to mind for now, I like elven woods to feel uncanny but not threatening. Navigating in the woods should be almost impossible, walking in circles, paths close behind you, the trees seem to move. Think of the Old Forest in lotr, mixed with traditional fairy tricks. Everrything should be beautiful but eerie.

Edge Chronicles had some great ones.
Here's are two example:

>Lullabees
were trees found in groves in the Deepwoods.
Knobbly and irregular, lullabee trees grew in a haphazard but extremely robust manner.
Their leaves glowed with a turquoise light, and lullabee groves were thus bathed in eerie colours and shadows.
The leaves also emitted a gentle hum, almost like a song.
Glisters were attracted to the groves, where they wove caterbird cocoons and fed on the leaves.

>Caterbirds
were a mystical and rare species of bird. They were capable of intelligent thought and speech, and because they shared dreams with one another they typically viewed themselves as one individual rather than a species of creatures. Caterbirds hatched, fully grown, from cocoons hanging in lullabee groves.
The cocoons were woven by caterworms (=glisters) and could hang dormant for lifetimes before hatching.
The hatching of a caterbird was an extremely rare event, occurring only once in a hundred years, or longer.
The cocoons themselves were glittery, broad, and bulbous. They felt silky soft and smelled sweet and spicy.
Those who slept in them dreamed the special dreams of caterbirds, which could give mental healing and wisdom.

The worldbuilding general has made these threads irrelevant. You should come and just post there!
