Really? They said the cantina 4 pack would have characters never done before. Garindan and labria have had figures in the past. And no one wants fucking gay ass wookie with a hipster mustache. Tzizvvt will never get a figure at this rate. And also why cant they reveal the other two retro figures already. Fuck, hasbro is so retarded

I have a theory that the "Actionverse" branding is Hasbro getting ready to launch their own line of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures. The figures come with weapons racks very similar to Playmates TMNT, and Viacom recently did not renew the license with them, because another toy company offered Viacom more money.

>Watto
I remember yakface posting something about how practically no one bought Sebulba. So I don't know why they are doing more background aliens in 6 inch. If they want to do more funny aliens, at least do Greez from Jedi Survivor who people would be likely to buy to complete the Mantis crew
>Taun We
Looks nice but makes for a pretty boring figure I think. Mainly useful for the toy photography people but they probably already have a 3D printed version. I'd say this would be better in TVC but I think the saga collection version is fine and you can still get it fairly cheap
>Geonosian
This one is good
>lord Starkiller
ultimately I don't care but he looks pretty bad to me. Are Starkiller fans actually happy with this?
>>
>>11673746
One thing learned abut Hasbro with collecting GI Joe is their insistence on making money by means to keeping you waiting. "YOU HAVE TO BUY THIS SHIT YOU REALLY DON'T WANT IF YOU WANT US TO MAYBE MAKE WHAT YOU'RE REALLY WANTING A YEAR OR SO DOWN THE ROAD" is that business strategy. It's their way of making a line last longer before it runs out of good stuff to produce.
And it's bullshit. The Firebat and Skyhawk should have been made years ago, but we're year-6 into the line with them nowhere to be found or even any whispers and rumors of them coming any time soon.
And they clearly do shit like that with Star Wars with "I know you want this BUT you gotta buy all of this other shit you don't want first."
>>
>>11673836
I hate that youre right. And honestly i dont even buy into it by buying shit i dont want either, if anything its hasbro who loses more money from me by not making the stuff i want when it should have been made. It does irritate the fuck out of me, it also reminds me of mattel who keep putting off MOTU origins two bad for no good fucking reason
>>
>>11673868
It's been that way with Star Wars for a long time.
Back in 1980 with Empire Strikes Back, Kenner did NOT release Luke Hoth with the rest of the Hoth releases. They knew kids were waiting on that one, so they kept kids waiting while shoveling other figures in their faces for kids to buy while waiting. They held that one back until late 1982 towards the end of the Empire run when they had begun working on ROTJ stuff.
>>
>>11673825
And I'm fine with it either way. Never would have expected them to make a fucking Chalmun figure. They can keep releasing 4 packs like this every year to cover the rest of the Cantina and I'll buy every one. They should do the same with Jabba's palace too.
>>
>>11673891
>They can keep releasing 4 packs like this every year to cover the rest of the Cantina and I'll buy every one. They should do the same with Jabba's palace too.
You know they wont tho. This was their only chance to make a good cantina set and they fill it with two already made characters and some glorified donut steel OC that looks stupid. Arliel is the only one i really wanted out of this

Don't really collect TBS anymore but I'm gonna have to get a few of these for Delta Squad to kill.
>>11674158
I'm pretty sure that's the plan since that's how it seems to be going in TVC. The lower half of Poggle is definitely going to be reused for the Geonosian they teased with the blaster.

Posted Grievous in the shf thread but guess I'll post here too. He is okay. I don't have the black series anymore, I sold it when this was announced but it's hard to say which is better. Both have issues standing, which was the one thing I needed them to get right on the shf... But I guess it is still a little bit better in that department due to the harder plastic. Paint apps are very nice too. Price was crazy though I try not to think about it... Also hip joints are terrible. So can't say I would strongly urge anyone to go for this over the $35 black series which I think does the job

I think shf Kenobi is a little shorter than the black series. So naturally shf Grievous probably scales better with other shfs and is a little short next to black series
I just took this pic. Obviously with legs straight he’d be taller but I think in a crouching pose he looks a bit small. It doesn’t bother me that much though

Just cut here and insert green stuff, paint like the surround area and it will be taller. Mine is the Clone Wars version so it's easier to paint and yes, he will look a little weird and lankier but again it works in the Clone Wars version. I also advise to drill a hole on each side you cut, so you can put a little wire inside the green stuff, let a bit extra on each side and then superglue the inside these holes for a studier connection. I do this to all my customs and after the glue is set it's pretty fucking hard to take apart.

I got TVC dengar in the mail today. I meant to get him months ago but he fell off my radar and when i finally remembered to check again he was on sale on amazon. I had this sculpt when it was first released in 2010 when i was a kid and i gotta say i forgot how much i hated his removable codpiece which flys off at a moments notice. Otherwise its kinda cool and nostalgic to get a reissue of a figure i havent had in like ten years

>The launching diaper action feature is so annoying.
Its so fucking dumb. I get this figure was from a time period where hasbro had this impulsive need to make everything fucking removable but its still annoying. Its just like that TVC C-3PO from the same wave as dengar who needlessly has alot of his plating come off for no good reason. I hate it so much
>>
>>11676156
I was glad to see the reissue since I needed him and the original release was just too expensive for what it is, but after getting it in hand I just wish they would have made an all new one. The armor and backpack pop off too easily, the articulation is so fucking outdated, and I don't know if this is a common issue with this newer one but mine has warped feet and knees that make his legs go out like this ) ( so I can't even get him to stand up straight just have to lean him up against something. I've tried heating and resetting but they just go back to that position as if it was molded that way.

I don't think you're an idiot, you might just be blind. His Mando helmet is closer to the shape of the original helmet from the OT, with a shorter top and a bottom that flares out wider than the rest. The BOBF helmet is smaller all around and has a more uniform shape as if it put in a vice and squished. Yet canonically these are supposed to be the exact same helmet.
>>
>>11676186

it doesn't make sense that disney cheaps out with this kind of stuff
it's not as bad as the grand inquisitor in kenobi being just a dude with white face paint instead of a pau'an, but you'd think with the potential to make a shit ton of money they'd put in a little more effort to appeal to the autists who would actually buy all the shit they produce
the simple answer is they probably fired all the masters that worked on the lucas films during the buyout and replaced them with useless diversity hires
>>
>>
>>
>>11676253
Remember how beskar was supposed to be rare and hard to obtain in the disney era but somehow Boba found an extra kneepad, jetpack and I guess helmet? I thought the point was that he was supposed to be wearing Jango’s armor repainted but they really ship of theseus’d it

The more I look at the cantina 4-back, the more my favorite character is starting to be Chalmun (sorry Arleil and Arleil fans). But, I am noticing that Chalmun isn’t getting a warm reception amongst the community, and I get it. He doesn’t show up in the movie at all, and if you’re wanting to stick to recreating the cantina scene then he really has no place to go. Bret from Banthaskull said it best, as he really feels like a figure from the 2008 time, when Hasbro was throwing out obscure characters galore. And so that makes him a bit of a strange duck, if you will.
See, for me Chalmun is a perfect character for play. Canonically he had quite a fun past, and so him leaving the bar to go on space fairing adventures for a bit is perfect for him. Maybe he shows up with some rebels? Maybe he is breaking down Jabba’s door because the hutt owes him money. With his wickedly cool looks, the possibilities are endless! But, the downside is unlike, say, Osho who was released on card back and can do everything I said above, Chalmun is in a four pack, and thus takes up space from another character who might have needed it. Ya know, someone who actually was at the cantina. Such as BoShek or Hem. And maybe Chalmun’s inclusion wouldn’t have stung some collectors as much if we had an inkling on if any more cantina patrons would be made.
So, while I do get the backlash (if it could even be called that) of Chalmun, I’m still excited for him. Also any wookiee who has a stache as glorious as his can’t be all bad in my book.
>>
>>
>>11676389
He was a total left field pick and that's why I'm excited to get him. Ralph McQuarrie is one of my art heroes as well so I love any figure that's a direct reference to him. I totally get people being mad at his inclusion in the set but some of that blame definitely falls on Hasbro's shoulders. I think if they had communicated better that there was going to be a big surprise in it that nobody would have predicted (I think Mr. Stevie said only 3 people even mentioned Chalmun in his contest to guess the characters) or that it wasn't necessarily a straight Cantina pack but a Mos Eisley themed one, it would have gone better. And also maybe not go almost six months between the teaser and reveal on the next one, since all that time just gave people way too much room to speculate and get their hopes up.
>>
>>
>>
>>11676297
>too bad that they blew their load in terms of writing quality in the first three episodes
That's because they cannibalized a Boba Fett movie script for their oc donutsteel. Never forget what they took from you.

>Josh Trank
Seriously? How is that man not blacklisted for fan4stic 2015?
>>
>>11676172
I'm pretty sure they have given in and just want to pretend they don't exist. There was a ton of shit that went on with RotS's 20th anniversary last year, and already a bunch of stuff planned for the overall series 50th anniversary next year, but TFA's 10th anniversary was last year and there wasn't even a peep about it.
I don't think any toylines have done much sequel shit in ages. The only thing I can think of was LEGO doing a midi scale Kylo Ren shuttle like last year, and they did a remake of the buildable BB8 this year.
>>
>>11676633
Fant4stic is literally the reason the Boba Fett movie got canned, not even because of how badly the movie performed but because of how much of a weird asshole Trank was during production. He seriously pissed off Simon Kinberg and that's what led to him being fired from the Boba movie, the movie then going into development hell again, and then ultimately getting cancelled.
>>
>>11676637

That was really funny to me and also cathartic. Its nice to see people turn on even TFA, the only figure i can think of from the sequels last year was a reissue of TFA finn for TVC.

The cause of Doomer Luke in George's outlines aren't entirely clear.
Talon's role as a Jedi hunter is less efficient then the school shooting since her whole thing seemed to be mostly just picking off young Jedi men through literal seduction to the dark side before properly recruiting the Solo kid.
All the stuff about the Whills using the Midichlorians to manipulate everyone from within and feed off the Force raises enough existential questions about free will and whatnot to break ones faith so thoroughly.
>>
>>
>>11677428
So was Lucas. The entirety of the prequel trilogy is basically an extremely unsubtle takedown of Bush era politics. Revenge of the Sith in particular was more or less two and a half hours him just giving the middle finger to the patriot act.

I am kind of itching for a new black series figure but there's not really anything on the horizon that I am interested in. I'm not even sure what I would be interested by desu. Kinda crazy that a franchise with 50 years worth of content has not produced more than I handful of characters I actually like or care about. Pretty much everything in the last 13 years has been worthless. The next decade of Star Wars content should primarily be chronological in a new era so people can actually get invested in the characters and stories so it's not just more fast food type slop. But the latter is definitely what they will keep doing, more jumping around the "skywalker saga" timeline throwing random shit and hoping something sticks

He absolutely would have. He didn't want Luke getting married and having kids either. Prequelfags read things into the prequels that Lucas never intended. Monastic dedication was part of Lucas's vision for Jedi, period. Luke included.

I can see the straps for his holsters snapping if you're crazy but as long as you're not stupid and wildly bending his limbs, you'll be fine. My favorite factions are usually bad guys and the CIS and the criminal underworld element and the empire are like the coolest characters in star wars. The coolest good guys are the clones tho

I agree, but its even worse in the warhammer 40k fandom with space marine stans and imperium apologists literally trying to justify all of the harsh awfulness of the imperiums actions and xenophobia and some will literally get mad at you for preferring another xeno faction to the space marines. Phantom Menace has a dysfunctional democracy (Naboo/Weimar Germany) where a leader (Palpatine/Hitler) gains power legally by exploiting crisis and gridlock. Phantom Menace is about how democracies collapse legally, through fear, bureaucracy and complacency rather than coups. It's probably the most political out of all the Star Wars movies.

Feels good to be vindicated about TFA, everyone gushed about that movie when it came out but I thought it was dull and unimaginative and it felt like those of us that didn't like it would get shouted down with YOU MUST LOVE JAR JAR THIS IS REAL STAR WARS UNLIKE THE SUCKY PREQUELS STAR WARS IS BACK
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>11679328
They did. Even in the leadup to the movie it was becoming increasingly obvious that the movie was just going to repeat ANH. It turns out the problem with the Episode 1 wasn't that the story was boring, or that the acting and dialogue were awful, it was just that it weren't pandering to nostalgia. TFA gave them that, they got X-Wings and TIEs and the Falcon and Chewie and that was all they needed to proclaim it the best thing ever made.
>>
>>
>>11679337
Yeah, this. As a two hour popcorn movie it's fine. As a Star Wars movie it basically shits on the OT in order to just do the exact same thing over again because Abrams could not think of how to do a Star Wars movie except to just repeat what was done before and often without understanding why it worked in the first place. He did the same with his Star Trek movies, he tried to do his own reversed version of the Spock death scene from Wrath of Khan but completely failed to understand why that scene was so impactful and why it doesn't work in a rebooted universe where Spock and Kirk barely know or like each other.
>>
>>11679322
>everyone gushed
I felt that way for about the first 1/4 of the film, then it slowly descended into
>dull and unimaginative
I became less and less impressed and then began hating it. I was completely checked out by the time they did Han’s stupid death that was contractually obligated by Harrison Ford, that old, ungrateful twat of a man.
> it felt like those of us that didn't like it would get shouted down with YOU MUST LOVE JAR JAR THIS IS REAL STAR WARS UNLIKE THE SUCKY PREQUELS STAR WARS IS BACK
You got to hand it to Disney on the marketing-PR front: they knew exactly how to pander to soibeard millennial men and how to get them on their side when the critiques started. Whoever was in charge of that part of their business really understood the psychology of low-test, media-marinated men who had adopted RLM Star Wars critiques as a facet of their personalities and were desperate enough for pussy they’d defend any social phenomenon that could be meme’d into popularity with women.

They are plebs. How can you watch an inferior remake of a classic film and not be somewhat insulted? I mean, it wasn’t even tongue-in-cheek like Home Alone 2, for example. It felt like every other Abram’s film: things happened—and fast!—but nothing mattered.

I remember they had Mark Hamill narrate going REAL PRACTICAL EFFECTS and how much they hyped that BB-8 would be an actual physical puppet that could be operated remotely, only for it to turn out that the puppet couldn't do half the shit they needed to so most of his scenes he's either supported by a puppeteer that had to be digitally erased or just outright CGI
>>
>>
>>
>>11679301
Honestly I didn't expect anything new from Hasbro but I figured they'd at least re-release some of the older TBS/TVC figures with faceprint or something. It's really weird that they didn't do anything at all.

>>
>>
>>
>>11679360
This is what pissed me off the most going in to the movie. This whole thing. And then all the practical effects sucked. That stupid pecking bird on Jakku looked so bad. ALL the anomatronics were awful and felt like low budget trash. Which made no sense because the tech has come so far.
>>
>>
>>
>>11679378
I remember the DVD extras for ROTS highlighted some of the improved animatronics, like the one for Meena Tills that was a huge improvement over Ackbar. Tills had actual believable mouth movements instead of just a flapping mouth, sadly she's barely in the movie and is never shown talking but you could at least tell how proud the designers were. Then comes TFA and Ackbar's a flapping mouth again.
They did this with Yoda in TLJ, I get that they wanted him to look like the ESB puppet for nostalgia's sake but after so many years of seeing Yoda with an expressive CGI face it was distracting to see him as a basic muppet again in 2017. There was nothing stopping them from making a practical puppet that has a better facial range.
>>
>>
File: thing.jpg (125.3 KB)
125.3 KB JPG
>>11679360
Its possible they had initially intended to do full practical effects, and then later fucked it all over either because the practical effects were a bit more difficult than they initially assumed, or some higher up wanted them changed.
I'm reminded of the 2011 sequel to "The Thing" where they had the entire movie done and filmed using practical effects, and then super late into production they decided to paste CGI over all of them and everyone unanimously agreed the practical effects were better anyway. And there wasn't even a real reason they went with the CGI since the actual filming with practical effects was already completed.

They fumbled the BoBF figure so bad, I just don't get how they took a step back with the weathering - it was on the Mando version...but at the same time I can also understand it, because they are Hasbro with the usual ASS quality but it just feels worse recently. I was gonna let it slide a bit, then I saw a video review on how the neck was also too long, making his head poke out like an ostrich, I just finally said screw it and canceled my pre-order. The new Jango on the other hand turned out decent, but it still has its own issues, like the fuel tubes on his right arm pretty much at breaking point if you attempt to bend it 90 degrees. This is my last Black Series I think, I'm outta space anyway and I'm just tired of their paint apps getting worse and worse.
>>11676253
Highly doubt its an in universe thing and more of a irl production thing. I think they mentioned the one in Mando was based on the actual prop so its literally not form fitting for Temuera Morrison. It also probably explains why the armor looked so awfully wrong on him and making him look fat as fuck in some scenes in the Mando show. I think the one in Book of Boba, including the rest of the armor was actually tailored to fit his head and body which probably explains the change.
>>11676946
Not total shit, but Hasbro keeps fucking up recently, and this renders his arm basically un-posable unless you wanna risk it. The left one is fine and has enough give on the tubes to bend though for some weird ass reason.
>>11676952
This trick works on the TBS ROTJ Boba which almost had the same issue, but I tried it on this Jango, it still stretches it too fucking much.

>>11676364
Did he? I mean it was not totally lost. The Jawas stole it, then Cobb Vanth got it from them, handed it to Mando, and then Boba retrieved it from Mando's ship when they were attacked by stormtroopers. I thought it was assumed he just repainted everything...
>>
>>
>>
>>11679454
Boba hid a bomb inside Jango's helmet in TCW to try to kill Mace Windu, so I assume that's supposed to be what happened to the original. Then again now that we know it was supposed to be beskar I'm not sure how a simple bomb can destroy it, so maybe that was a replica? Either way yeah, I don't think Boba's helmet is literally the same one Jango had.
>>
>>11679458
>>11679467
Filoni talked about this during the TCW behind the scenes stuff, the original idea was that Boba would kill off Death Watch guys over the years and take armor pieces off of them, so he'd have several extras. This was years before The Mandalorian introduced the idea that Jango's armor had a chain code that identified it as specifically his, so I don't know how much of that is still being taken into consideration. Maybe he preferred to wear his dad's armor but still kept extras just in case?

the issue with the st designs is that they were designed so the actor in the suit could see through the mask, which lead to flat nose/ wide set eyes being the defining feature for effectively all of them
even the wrinkly cg ones had the same issue
this is contrasted with the pt where a lot of them were technicolour humans with funny headgear (with some actually fantastical designs thrown in because lucas let his team go wild with the designs + cgi)
and then ot aliens which for the most part were bootleg haloween costumes and puppets
the latter two were only held back by the technology available, which is why there was a wide variety, while the st aliens were held back by a committee of suits

Yeah it feels weird to see Rodians, Nikto, Quarren, etc all over the place and then they're just strangely absent for the entire trilogy. For some reason Abednedos became the go-to background filler alien, which especially sucks because they're one of my least favorite alien designs in the entire franchise.
>>
>>11679773
>>11679795
I recently started playing Outlaws because it was cheap enough on sale to try it out. I gotta say, one of the best things about that game is that they didn't throw in any sequel trilogy aliens. Every world is mostly filled with OT species like Rodians, Ithorians, Weequays, Mon Cals, and Twi'leks. And then there are the Pantorans and Zabraks along with the droids to represent the prequels. Really the only thing from the Disney era are the Melitto, which are probably one of the better species to come out from them.

no, the primary aliens we see in the sequels are new to the sequels
the only returning ayys we see are ones that were likely mandated to return, so chewbacca, ackbar, and yoda

Semi-related but I have seen people over the years who are upset that there's so few "hero from the Empire" stories where it's told from the POV of someone who believes in the Empire and either doesn't realize how evil it is or thinks that the ends justify the means. I remember a lot of people complaining that they didn't do this with the main character from Battlefront who eventually left after realizing how bad it was.
>>
>>11680230
We had Crimson Empire and the Baron Fel one shot that spun off from the X-Wing series back in the old EU. I liked that there weren't too many stories about "heroic" Imperials. It would have become overplayed, like the evil scientist that is experimenting on Xenomorphs scenario that plagued the Dark Horse Aliens comics in the 90s.

I'd never heard of it, and the only thing I can find is an AI YouTube video about TK-421 (one of the Stormtroopers that Luke and Han steal the armor off aboard the Death Star) going to Dagobah and finding Yoda, but since it was AI I immediately stopped watching it. Here it is if you want, but even the story seems to be written by AI, so don't expect it to be good.

To fill it with janky looking old figures? Where are the new mainline ones?
>>
Is there a good alternative to Ventress' lightsabers in 3.75? I recently opened the new one and I don't like how chunky the hilts are. Both aesthetically and also because the size and shape of her hands make it really hard to get a good grip on them so the left one keeps falling out.
>>
>>11680467
Either get an old Ventress figure which will be very expensive or try to find 3d printed ones on Etsy
>>11680457
Yeah it's kind of a weird situation. Realistically they were never going to make a bunch of mainline figures to populate the cantina because they will be peg warmers. The boomer backers might at least have the janky old ones to fill it out but new collectors are kind of out of luck. I still think making the entire cantina was unnecessary and one booth and portion of the bar in a smaller retail set would have sufficed

That's why I hate Filoni. Throughout Rebels, Bad Batch, Mandalorian, Ashoka, I had so many cool theories for all the things they were setting up. But ultimately questions were left unanswered or there was no pay off or it was just an incredibly lame pay off. Filoni NEVER delivers. Like remember the Kaminoan sky facility from bad batch? Complete nothing burger. What were Ezra and Thrawn doing for 10 years outside the galaxy? Maybe something interesting happened and they had to team up to face a new enemy? No literally nothing happened during those 10 years. Who is Marrok? No one, a literal fart in a suit. Is there going to be an epic battle over the darksaber and who gets to be Mandalore? No, Mandi just hands it over to Bo-Katan. It's all so fucking lame. All the abeloth shit they are teasing for Ahsoka season 2 is going to be very disappointing.

Nope.
How are you A. going to move away from OT stuff and lose sales and B. lower the price without lowering the quality?
You're retarded because it's not possible.
There is no mythical non OT line that can be done cheaper.
What do you want outside of OT? Clones and Mandos? You already get them
>>
>>
>>11686363
Outside of cardfags who are a vocal minority, most collectors are less concerned with the packaging than with the actual figure. You're not going to see some drastic dropoff in sales just because the figures aren't on a vintage cardback anymore. The only reason sales dropped during the TVC hiatus was because Hasbro was moving away from super articulated 3.75" as a whole and eventually only offered them as Walmart exclusives.

>>11686378
>then move on
To what? I don't understand what you guys think would change, or even want to change. TVC was always just the label for the next phase of the main line.
If you're seriously asking for less articulation and Droid parts or the magic of CommTech(TM) or whatever more power to you, but even in 2010 it was obvious why Hasbro were moving in the direction that they were.
>>
>>11686363
>Why open the cantina one? It only has an exclusive cup and cardback? Sell it, get the retail version and buy more aliens
I want the cup since it goes on Han Solo's table. I don't really care about the cardback and have no interest in selling anything anyway. If I did, I'd rather sell the Tonnikas since they'd actually get most of the money back for buying the Cantina in the first place.
>>11686432
The format of TVC itself is limited because of the space and size of the bubble on the cardback since they don't want to cover the film out. They can keep calling it TVC but at some point I'd like a new line look so we can go back to having more accessories and larger figures packed in.
>>
>>11686491
If we're being honest they're probably never bringing back extra accessories like they had in the old days, regardless of the cardback. For the last few years they've been pinching pennies and doing everything they can to either avoid giving us more accessories or charging us more for a "deluxe" release if they do.
That said I'm kind of tired of TVC cardbacks as a whole. It was nice seeing the line refresh itself every few years, while the packaging isn't super important there's something pleasing about going to the toy aisle and seeing different packaging. It's just a nice change of scenery.

>They can keep calling it TVC but at some point I'd like a new line look so we can go back to having more accessories and larger figures packed in.
That's not how that works. We already get that stuff with occasional deluxe figures, anyway. Unless you're wanting this refresh to come up with a price bump it wouldn't change anything.

Where did you get that Putin figure?

>Like pretty much the only thing the Sequels did right was the generic troopers. The Scarif, Hovertank, Shore, and Sith troopers all look pretty cool.
This. I pick up the troopers from the disney bs stuff but avoid most of the other figures.

I dunno, Taun We, Watto and the Geonosians have that "interesting alien factor." Nute Gunray and some of the other Separatist leaders have their cool alien factor cancelled out by basically just being cowardly dudes in robes.
Outside of Poggle (who's almost definitely coming) the only Separatist I see Hasbro bothering with is Wat Tambor
