Super7 Ultimates wave 13 is hitting people's doorsteps...and it's a bit of a clusterfuck.
The excessive thin, pliable rubber use continues, loose joints, things popping apart when they shouldn't, no paint, shiny plastic, etc. 2k3 fans stay suffering.

Upsetting for the amount of money these cost. And the production time. And them raising prices further.
>>
>>
>>
>>11680128
I was hoping they'd be decent, and I guess maybe they're that, but they definitely don't look good. I don't understand how there's not been any progress in these figures. And those soft goods on Shredder look rough. I don't get how they produce these and think they're ready for release.
>>
>>11680095
>>11680101
honestly feels like their figures have gotten worse over the years, I know they were bad before but I never had joints popping out and the cloth goods on previous figures were much cleaner
>>
>>
>>
>>11680144
I've gotten a few KS toys and I don't think any of them were as bad. Much as I wanted them to be good back then, it was probably Articulated Icons that were the worst ones I've gotten (aside from that LFG Richard which I regret...), and even those were at least ML tier. Super7 after all this time and at these prices are somehow worse than that.
>>
>>
>>11680095
why did he even need a cloth belt...
>>11680101
that looks like it'd pop right back in
>>11680138
when your company is literally dying, it's not exactly the time to put out your best efforts.
>>
>>
>>11680308
aw feck.
the question in that situation is: do you put some gorilla putty on it, to make the peg essentially thicker? or do you shave the hole slightly bigger (leaving a lip) so the peg can get in and lodge itself better? I hate those kinds of decisions. even a Zoids kit did that to me recently.
>>
>>11680095
>>11680101
I always find it weird how much people dissect the Super7 Turtles, but there's a huge brigade to defend Neca Turtles, despite that there's videos of their figures falling apart , even n Pixel Dan videos. Dan himself will even defend it and spout that it's probably only his copy. Neca even got caught lying on their twitter back when Ratking came out and they tried to dismiss the paint flaking off his crotch as an isolated incident, only for it to be pointed out that their official promo images show his crotch flaking. It just feels like gay brand wars.
>>
>>11680451
Nobody was caught lying about anything. You're such a fucking retard. It was a factory issue that was fixed on subsequent releases of the pack. NECA actually goes out of their way to make improvements on things as they go forward. Super7 does not. Super7 struggles to modernize or adapt. And then when they do step forward, they fall on their faces making the same dumb mistakes even though they should have learned by now. 13 goddamn waves in.

Sometimes it's because the peg wasn't fully inserted which stretched the hole, so just the hole needs to be reset with hot water. Always start with the least destructive method.
Hot water>nail polish/varnish>putty>knife/dremel.

i'm drawing a bunch of frog monsters right now and realizing how many great kinds of frogs there are for Atilla and Rasputin to be, if Super7 gets their shit back together (or someone else does it)

fly boy looks absolutely authentically like a playmates accessory guy.. Rasputin definitely works here, but Attila... he just loks like fat genghis with less clothing. especially after S7 gave Genghis a reeaal solid cas eof acne.. Not sure how well the muumuu would work on a figure either, but yknow what? it's color-coordinated. . I never noticed before they're each wearing yellow and pink..

We just love the sculpts. If only they could work on the QC, but it's obvious they can't, or they would have by now. and with each failure, the price has to go up to keep the company afloat. The failure is factored into the costs.

Tourist here, I am hoping you can help me find out what the circled character on the left is? People say it is Jab but the Jab character is the one on the far right. I tried finding a relevant thread but there are non in the catalog, so I figured maybe since it's the 90's you might have come across it too?

He either thinks Street Sharks are an official TMNT spin off or he knows there is enough cross over interest between TMNT and Street Sharks that people will know. I know my interest in TMNT also led to me buying Street Sharks as well back in the 90s
>>
>>
>>
Not only would a TMNT/SS crossover be one of the few TMNT crossovers that actually make sense compared to random shit like Cobra Kai, Godzilla, and Stranger Things but the non-turtle characters wouldn't recieve the shit end of the stick like with the MOTU one (The MOTU characters are wearing cruddy turtle-themed armor and purple He-Man).
-Sharks are decked in ninja gear with "shark" versions of the turtles weapons IE Ripster getting Shark-atanas.
-Turtles are gene-slammed with shark DNA and turn into monstrous, Slash-esque versions of themselves.
-Piranoid turned into a mutagen-exposed version of himself bursting out of his suit.
-Shredder decked in a cross between Piranoid's armor and his suit.

It just took awhile to catch up to them, but it certainly has if you haven’t noticed. The last year they’ve barely been at conventions, showed off no new licenses and their output dropped substantially; I think they only put up 1 wave of Tmnt and 1 wave of thundercats for preorder, everything else has been reaction, because that’s all that actually sells for them.

I have a question, what the fuck show am I thinking of that had more samebito-styled shark people heroes? yknow shark-merpeople but the body color was continuous, not stopping at the waist. I'm almost sure that was a thing, and at least one of them was striped, and for ages I thought that's what Rankin-Bass's Tigersharks was.

different guy uh
i would say that this is the highest ratio of "looks awesome while glowing" to "looks awesome while not glowing"
90% of GitD shit, in normal light it's that sickly translucent snot white color. this guy looks like a jellular pop while lit normally, even the bendy parts? so that is incredible to me. I didn't know you could even make bendy GitD. I mean you can see how it's dimmer than the other parts, but still. and what's more, the outline paint is strong enough to be visible while glowing? Yeah. this is what I need to be the standard for glowy stuff now. Lookin at you, S7.

I got mixed up. It was Raph with motorcycle gear and his motorcycle. And they are supposed to be up for preorder in March, according to their NYCC presentation. That's if things haven't changed with all of the licensing shenanigans going on.
$65 though. It might be better to pull the plug now.
>>
>>
>>11686787
oh right. so yeah that is a legit other figure to make.
i wish these were a lil more playmates-style gnarly, and in scale with the previous ones, but meh. I get what they were doing, and I wish them luck on their pivot. it's gonna be a tough sell, since all the really cool 2k3-exclusive villains
>the crystal shard mutants
>the more and more elaborate body variants of Baxter and Ch'rell including that badass four-armed one from the future
>Garbageman
are all these necessarily massive figures that will be tough to fund
I think they need to start making the body parts hollow instead of solid, at least in the upper bodies. and maybe using a plenty durable material as a filler in the plastic, like at the core of a given piece. What if like, an air-filled styrene bubble is placed in the center as the plastic is poured in. then you wouldn't have to resort to two-halves assembly. Iunno. I just know S7s are heavy and chunky and I love that about them but it's very unnecessary. like a zoot suit.
>>
>>11686789
The layoffs happened in May, long before they announced this wave. And Lyin' Brian got ousted in July, so the only real change since they were shown at NYCC is the licensing potentially being up in the air, but we don't know when S7 were due to renew it.
>>
>>
>>11686797
What sucks is that if they did lose the license we might not even know for a while. It's news when a bigger company like Playmates loses a license, but with a smaller company we might not get any confirmation until some Q&A like a year later where a rep casually mentions that they no longer have the license
>>
>>11686807
if someone else picks up where they left off, I hope it's not a situation like the Muppets or Simpsons lines, where the new guys move in and theirs aren't in the same scale as the prior ones, because they want you to start over and buy every character again. fuck you, when there's THAT MANY characters, we want continuity. You will still make your millions on variants of the characters that the previous guys didn't do
>>
>>11686805
He still works there, but he got demoted from the CEO position.
https://toybook.com/super7-geoff-walker-ceo/
>>
>>
>>11686810
Yeah that's happened to several lines I've collected and it's fucking annoying. It's the one reason I have for not wanting anyone else to start making Bucky O'Hare figures because you know they're just going to start over and make them incompatible with the Boss Fight ones.
Incidentally when >>11686807 brought up the Q&A thing Bucky was the first thing that came to mind. Just months and months of no news and then just a quiet mention that they had lost the license.
>>
>>11686807
Yeah, the only reason we found out about Playmates losing the license is because they legally had to inform their shareholders that the main source of revenue for the company was gone. Smaller companies like Super7 and NECA that only have private investors or rich guys like Weinshanker running them are under no such obligation.
Though in the past, Flynn did disclose when the Disney license was no more, but he isn't running the show now.
>>
>>11686830
Hehehe. Weinshanker.
I wonder how rich you have to be to fund a toy company. All of my getting rich fantasies involve me BUYING toys, but making them would be my absolute dream.
I just look at the industry and assume it's not gonna happen. Best case scenario I'm selling something massively overpriced compared to its peers due to not having a nationwide customerbase to spread the costs out over. like Beasts of the Mesozoic kinda shit. That shit is RIGHT up my alley, but too spensive.
>>
>>11686839
>I wonder how rich you have to be to fund a toy company.
It would depend on the company, but starting your own company would be cheaper. Even if all you have is an idea you can do it for a couple of hundred thousand. The Armies of Ashmore guys funded their first toyline on Kickstarter for under $150k, so add on whatever 4H charges to sculpt the prototypes, can accept artists, and some other overheads and I doubt they went over $300k.
>All of my getting rich fantasies involve me BUYING toys
My millionaire toy fantasy would be to start an action figure museum.
Technically it still involves me buying toys, but I'd want to share them with the world. Only from behind bullet proof glass cabinets so that people can't steal parts from The Technodrome to complete theirs. I've read what some "hands on" toy museums have gone through due to feral kids and adults with sticky fingers.
And this was in a so-called high trust society.

oooooooh that is pretty rad. and it's sad but yeah, you would have to keep it hands-off. Remember when you could generally rely on most people not to be retards, and you could just pre-eject anyone you felt probably was based on their appearance and mannerism?
>Japan

>>11686857
phones is ass
i'd want to be the concept artist, though, so that saves some money.
>>
>>11686858
>yeah and how much did the armies of ashmore toys cost?
I think they were $65 each for a 9" brute dinosaur man. All had the same torso, but different heads, armor and weapons.
There was also Animal Warriors of the Kingdom who got their first toyline started for under $100k, but that was a few years ago now.
It will all depend on how many molds you need. One main buck with a bunch of different heads is how most of these companies start out.
>wait no way. was it because of tourists
You'd think it was filthy gaijins, but from the article some of the incidents were kids running feral while their parents were enthralled playing the Pachinko machines in the museum.
>>
>>11686868
That's not terrible, if they have decent articulation.
>use of recycled parts
yeahhh see, there's always a corner you have to cut. The industry sucks. Fucking plastic.

Been opening stuff. Still got a lot to do, like the TMNT Ben Coopers.
The Ultimates are good. Not full price good. I kind of regret ordering them for full price. IF you can get these for $20? That's the right price. My figures don't have any majorly upsetting looseness, thankfully, but they still suffer from weird Super7 choices. Like, Casey's grip hands can't really grip his weapons very well. The ugly sash on Shredder...no paint on any of the figures, so they look veeeery, very plastic-ey.
They do all have very, very, very thin pegs on the hands, so if you get these, be careful with those. The rubber use is egregious though. I question how these will hold up over time. It's not quality feeling stuff, again, not for the price.
These just aren't $55+ figures though, articulation be damned. And IF they manage to do wave 14? Those are in no way going to be worth the uptick in the pricetag.

The Re-Evolution turtles are lovely. Not perfect either, but these really stand out visually among all the Turtle variants. They all feel good to pose and mess with, though I did have to heat the hell out of Odyn's wrist pegs to get them moving. They all have plenty of accessories so you can go with any look you want.
The only annoying thing is the factory shortened the straps on Moja's jacket, so that cannot physically be buttoned up. Hoping that gets fixed on a re-run of the figure. Still happy with the figures and how they look. Need to play with their looks more. I'm happy to add Ben Bishop's signature to the collection too.

>20
20 dollars in like, 2008 money, for sure. I feel like you gotta up that to 30 now. I got most of my S7s for 30-35 and I feel like that was fair.
I'm baffled that they changed Shredder's plastic sash to a visibly stitched bendy cloth one, or at least included either as an OPTION, but at least overall these look pretty good.. good likeness to the show for sure.
>>11687473
they do make a decent-looking group, albeit with nonsense plastrons. feels like something the turtles would have met up with in Fast Forward, some coincidentally similar beings who are just from the planet Scrofula. I do not think the PANTS make a lot of sense...

for the record I would have gone with Radon Don (for pun value and because Radon's kind of a wimp), Anguirus Mike because he's a party animal, and Baragon raph because he's got that horn. then Jet Jaguar Metalhead, Chrome Dome Ghidorah, and... yeah everything else here is on point, which is why I'm surprised.

Kinda. They pick and choose stuff from the OG guys to make new ones. Yi is like Donatello, and Uno is a mix of Leo (leader, dedicated to training) mixed with Raph (full of himself and doesn't take criticism well). Odyn is kind like Mikey, but a big physical fighter like Raph.
They're also all trained in all four of the old turtles' weapons (so they don't each have a "usual" one) and they all also have secondary mutation superpowers.

I gotta say, I cannot hate their designs overall. but I've seen these same characters in the terrible comics looking a lot less good than this.

ah IDW..

I haven’t been keeping up to date with TMNT news, but with Playmates losing the license, would the new license holder be able to continue the vintage rereleases or is there no hope of that?
The absolute ideal situation is that they also release some new figures in the vintage style like >>11680890 but I’ll settle for just having the old figures rereleased.
>>
>>
>>11688891
>would the new license holder be able to continue the vintage rereleases or is there no hope of that?
Depends on who owns the license to those designs. When Mattel did their MOTU and WWE crossover, anything they created just for that line belonged to WWE, and they were not allowed to reuse those parts elsewhere. So parts that did exist prior either came from MOTU Classics or Origins. Now there's one more thing, those Playmates reissues are actually new sculpts in many cases, but based off of vintage figures. In some instances it's like they just bootlegged their own figures. In other instances there's differences from the original figures. So any company taking on the license would have to make new molds regardless.
>>
>>11688922
Hmm that’s an interesting point. When other companies make figures based on the old toy designs (like Super 7’s), do they have to license the toy likenesses separately from Playmates, or does that come with the TMNT license?
>>11688899
I do prefer the size, but more than that I like their durability and sculpting. They feel like toys that are made to be played with.
>>
>>11688998
fair.
>did they have to license the toy likenesses
evidently they didn't, or they THOUGHT they didn't, and ran into trouble
It seems more likely that they didn't need to, but that instead, playmates threw their big thick dicks around saying 'we own the master license, so we can just stop producing toys if you don't do as we say and stop letting anyone use our old designs even if you own them'
...which is a pretty fucking retarded bluff, if true, since Playmates would sure as fuck die off before Viacom did if they tried that.

McFarlane's IDW figures have been a huge disappointment and have been a downgrade from the BST AXN / Loyal Subjects ones in every conceivable way. For all the complaints people had about Loyal Subjects, of course McFarlane found a way to make them look great by comparison. We missed out on the BST AXN foot ninja army builder for this tiny low-articulation crap with muddy paint apps.

Pretty much all the worst things to happen to TMNT were before they got bought out by Skydance. There's reason to hope that maybe April will be a redhead again. Just like with Star Trek, we have to wait for the sludge to clear out of the pipeline before we get a real look at what the new management is going to do with it.

Some intellectual properties are generational heirlooms. There's public domain stuff like the Holy Bible and Wizard of Oz, but in more recent history superheroes and the Middle Earth universe have been going since the 1930s without ever really dying off. There are plenty of wrong ways to handle heirloom IPs (endless ugly remakes and reboots like what Disney does) but there's no single right way either. TMNT's longevity largely comes from the fact that there is a core idea of what the IP is supposed to be that was laid down in the 80s that lies somewhere between the comics, the cartoon and the first movie, and then each generation of kids has gotten their own version that puts its own spin on things while trying to stay somewhere within that core. The same can be said for G.I. Joe and to some extent He-Man.
In the case of Star Trek, it had a long ongoing narrative universe that kept going from the 1960s through the early 2000s when finally the franchise got it's first official alternate timeline (Enterprise, who's timeline technically started in First Contact), and then another alternate timeline with the 2009 Trek series. It turns out that alternate timelines were probably a net negative for Star Trek and the IP has been in sharp decline ever since the movie Into Darkness, and is basically dead right now after numerous alternate timelines and time skips to the point that nobody even agrees to what Star Trek is anymore. Star Wars had a similar timeframe of being a generational heirloom, but ran into the same problem of putting morons in charge and diluting the value of the IP by breaking up the universe and throwing out the established lore that the fans actually liked. Also applies to what Amazon did to Lord of the Rings-- throw out the lore and make garbage that nobody likes in order to "get with the times" instead of being the trend setter..

ehhh First Contact was a causality loop, it had always been that way (the way that it was after they undid the borg changes, that is). it's kirk in the 30s or whatever with that lady.
>nobody even agrees to what star trek is anymore
a 20th century franchise with a few notable 21st century animated shows, and one brief one-season reunion of TNG. that's pretty universal unless you're some child online trying to retake the term 'snowflake' for yourself.

Paramount was in financial trouble for years after a string of flops and the launch of Paramount Plus which had a lot of expensive TV shows that turned off fans, and they ended up getting bought up by Skydance who was a production partner on Top Gun Maverick, basically the only big hit Paramount had in years outside of the Sonic franchise. They were at the time a smaller company with a ton of investment capital who were basically able to bail out Paramount, but they also replaced a lot of their leadership to try and make the company profitable again-- and that also meant throwing out a lot of the DEI bullshit that led to stuff like Star Trek Discovery and black April.
>>
>>11691991
and this was when? has to be recently
man I only just found out paramount was actually LARGER than viacom, and it owned them rather than vice versa, and now i'm finding out some tiny nobody company bailed them out and owns them now
that's... what the fuck is the word for optimistic but not me, it. i haven't felt that toward something in so long i've forgotten the terms. Promising. That is promising.

Mattel? Owns Street Sharks.
Mattel? Wants to buy Ninja Turtles toy rights.
Ninja Turtles and Street Sharks? Doing a crossover IDW comic.
You? Wrong, once again.

Going to be weird having a TMNT crossover that isn't stupid this time.
Not to mention, unlike the MOTU and Power Rangers ones, the non-turtle characters actually looking cool IE the sharks in ninja gear with weapons.

The ST one was boring and the Godzilla one has a shitload of wasted options (Mikey/Ghidorah instead of Shredder/Ghidora, Don/Jet Jaguar instead of Don/Rodan, Rocksteady/Destroyah instead of Rocksteady/Megalon).

I mean that isn't the reason
the comics board is also the cartoon board, and we talk about the cartoons and movies here plenty. Usually in the negative, talking about the recent ones, but still.
nobody talks about IDW because it's not just crap, it's dry, grainy crap. Like you can't even chew it long enough to have fun explaining what the bad flavors are, it's just bleh

>You say: Street sharks and Ninja Turtles will never do a crossover
>I provide a screen shot from an artist working on both IDW runs that a crossover is happening
>You, a retard, decide to move the goal post and say 'It'll never happen in a TOYLINE'
>Me, provides evidence that every time the TMNT do a comic crossover, there's usually toys involved
>You, a mouth breating retard, scream 'NUH UH U WRONG'
Why don't you go back to the NECA thread and scream how NECA won't do a Miss Piggy figure or something?
>>11692222
It's not even about being right in the 'they're doing a crossover' thing anymore. I'm just sick of this faggot's bullshit.

well I can't exactly call foul on someone willing to take himself down at the same time.
I just wish the threads weren't full of bickering, and I feel like it's much easier for one-sided nonsense to be ignored and shoved aside than two-sided. it's like the opposite of real life, where every act of aggression needs immediate and equal retaliation.
