The brush is different compared to the extra thin. It's wide, while extra thin's is thin.
Whenever it'll work or not is probably going to be secondary because you'll just have a shitty time trying to apply it.
>>
>>
>>11726039
If you mean the literal Tamiya bottle labelled as "ABS", then you're in for a bad time. It's more of a glue than a cement, so it doesn't melt the parts together like cement does. So it still bonds things, but not in the manner you really want for most model kit purposes. If you want cement that works really well on ABS then you need to get either Mr. Cement SP, or make your own copy (about 65% acetone, 35% MEK).

Varies by county but try the paint thinner aisle at your local hardware store. You can buy MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) in big plastic jugs here. Which if funny because I'm a leaf and most useful things are banned in this shithole.

I'm about to start assembling a MD Mao for the first time. I've got a hobby knife, a 600 sanding sponge sheet, and a bandai 3 tool set for beginners with nippers, tweezers, and a part separator. Is there anything else I need to get or know before starting? I've seen people mention removing seam lines with cement and then sanding? Is that something I need to do?

The thing about plamo is that you can go as far as you want to with it with how much work you’re willing to put into them. Some are happy with just snapping their stuff off the runners and leaving nub marks, and that’s fine, enjoy your kit however you like, but just be aware that there’s always the type to call you out on that. I don’t think you need to fully commit to painting every kit, sometimes just sanding nubs, panel lining, and a matte topcoat is enough to make your model really look nice and takes away that cheapy plastic look. And moreso if you want to play around with it and not worry about scuffing paint. As for seamline removal, that’s up to you. I like to use cement just to glue non-moving parts together because I’m an autist who doesn’t want my stuff to ever come apart, even though I’m the only one who touches them and that wouldn’t happen anyways lmao.

Sounderous Battle Mode is easily forgettable, making Second's figure form easy to miss, not to mention the most expensive Gridman girl action figure to date because of the combining gimmick. Now I might hear a commotion in the figma thread regarding wanting to see Anti's human form in Dynazenon (he's called Knight by that point).

Mao is a pretty beginner friendly kit if you can handle tiny pieces like the hair ornament.
Most of the gates are placed in a smart way and just neat knife-work will be enough for it to look good. Translucent parts are tough to clean - take it extra slow with them.
White parts are extra forgiving during clean up since stress marks turn white. If you'll get a tiny mark on a different color, you can try to gently rub it with your fingernail and it should come off.
I do recommend panel liner at least for the cat faces, but DO NOT use panel liner on ABS parts.
p.s. don't bother with stickers.

Nice Kuro Mao. I did end up using the sticker for her choker but I always get the decal set for the markings. It annoys me that they didn't include waterslides with the kit but at least now I have lots of extra eyes, since Blade draws eyes in a way I really like.

One one hand, the decals aren't there, but on the other - the face blanks are.
I think they made the right choice - It's easier/cheaper to get the decal sheet separately than trying to find the koto store bonus with face blanks.
And that is if that bonus even includes the faces!

Kneanut is here.
Pretty mid-tier Kit. Nothing too insane, no blow me out of the water engineering. Her thighs are bigger than the heads of sousai girls, and her own head scales to 30ms and megami size. Her body is fairly disjointed and gappy, though carefully posing hides it well. Her articulation is quite limited, don't expect anything more than a Sousai with a short skirt, even her elbow motion js fairly similar. Funny enough, despite her long hair it isn't the back of her hair that blocks head movement, it's the loose bang in the front that constantly gets in the way.

>>panel lining
>How would I go about doing this? Is there any specific thing to note about panel lining for MD kits or Mao?
Like the other anon mentioned, the instruction manual will tell you which runner is made of what. Putting panel liner on raw PS will be fine most of the time.
Just be sure to have the part cut out before hand and apply it on the part BEFORE assembly.
I personally use "pour type" gundam markers as they're less harsh than tamiya panel liner in a bottle. I'm confident you can apply the gundam marker one without having to spray top coat/varnish beforehand as that's what I do.
You can clean up the excess with isopropyl alcohol.
>>matte topcoat
>I assume that's related to painting? What would I need for it?
This is entirely up to you, but some people like to use top coats on unpainted kits just to get rid of the plastic-y look. If you do paint, it's pretty much mandatory.
I don't think Mao requires any color corrections besides some minor stripes that you get as stickers.
>>cement
>I'm mostly worried about making some kind of mistake I can't correct with it since this is my first time really getting into building a kit.
Then don't cement it!
Mao's pretty well made and the 2 instances of seamlines worth removing (side of upper torso and paws) won't really stick out all that much.
>By clean up do you mean things like using a knife/sanding joints and nubs from where they separated from the runner?
Yeah. Remove the piece from a runner using your nippers leaving a bit of excess gate and then snip it off again leaving a little nub, then carefully remove the nub with your knife. Cutting motion helps prevent stress marks. The nub mark will always be there most of the time, even if you cut it out neatly avoiding any stress marks.
Don't go crazy with the sand paper as it will change the texture of the plastic slightly. You can use a sanding sponge all over pieces that are meant to be cloth or skin to matte them out without needing varnish.

>>
>>11727676
They’re fine. Once you’ve built one, you’ve built them all, armor barely modifies the overall construction. Pick one with your favorite design and tighten up the hips and knees a bit or it will have a tough time standing in its own.

I wish I had a dedicated hobby room, just a desk on one side and shelves around the rest, maybe a tv. Bits of plastic and sanding dust in your keyboard are not fun.

I got stuck with a 'hybrid' arrangement and don't get to work fully remote, even though I did during the coof and the work still got done, and I got more sleep and more time for my hobbies. But the corporate drones higher up still think it's 1975.
>>

>Paid vacation not a thing where you are?
Oh, of course it is. People here usually take most of theirs during the summer months, or if earlier, maybe in April (around Easter).
Anyway, I am motivated to whittle down that backlog. There's a Grande Scale whose pieces I've cut out of their runners already, sitting here woefully unassembled.

If you have no love/feelings to Eva as a series Tiasha or really any of the other kits are the better choice. Rei is nice but you are paying for the brand name in that and you do have to deal with a couple of stickers as well.

I really enjoy the look of the armored bits here and there, but at the same time lament there's no full set of armor available for all limbs. Could get her decked out like a monhun character. Everyone loves armored dresses.
Posing her with a spear is difficult - not much you can do with a spear.
You can just point it or maybe display the full length, and having the end of the shaft resting on the ground would look a bit awkward with how wide the skirt is. This is entirely my skill issue.

Light sanding should be all that it takes. Buff it out till smooth then use finer grits to return the surface texture. You can also start by evening out the surface by scraping it with a hobby knife. Regardless once you finish sanding remember to buff it with a cloth, a soft t-shirt will work.
This happens all the time on soft bandai plastics, it's a very easy fix.

Opened up Gii and started building her. For something this fuckin' tiny she really did need all that room for parts. This is a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng build. Arguably one of the longest for girlpla (not counting kits where there's six million runners for a robot that isn't the girl itself).

HLJ is fine for the most part. The only bad thing about them is that they don't allow you to cancel shit anymore (you used to be able to do it right up until an item released), and they're often taking forever to ship items out compared to how speedy they used to be. There's no actual harm in using them.

I wonder why she was so popular. I guess the combination of the lower price and human head? As long as we don't lose the masks and robotic aspects then I'm all for these new human faces. Zirconia should have had one, but oh well. Maria having her own is great.

Agreed, but I can't deny that the mixed parts they often showcase look really good. And these new faces with movable eyes have more of a Megalomaria feel compared to the SST's printed faces. Plus the masks with the hair looks pretty damn great, gives it a hybrid/power-up form for the Anothers and their human counterparts.

Anybody else that picked up Gii prepare yourselves- this little fucking gremlin is an endurance test. She's so small, but she has more parts than damn near any girl out there. She has a high number of seam lines too (albeit all in easy to remove spots), so the total build time will be significantly higher if you do seam line removal.

Just finished building Gii. Need to do seam line removal on everything. Just waiting a few more hours to make sure all the seams are fully cured first. That was a long ass build though, holy shit. Two days just to build everything while cleaning up nubs. Both sessions were quite a few hours. Another day just for seam line removal. Probably just as many hours.

Should I have gotten the fatty bros? I wonder if I will regret skipping. For the price, there were just a lot of design elements that didn't appeal to me so didn't seem worth it. I also feel like we are entering a fat girl era with more companies making chubby figs and kits. Surely koto will make more similar figures right? So I thought it better to wait and see what else comes instead of settling for the first thing.

Coming along nicely. How long have you been at it so far?

I'm guessing the 80cm wingspan is with the clear parts included, and stretched out as far as possible.
I mean, each wing here looks easily over twice her height, going from the very tip, so that's got to be at least 60cm right there.

quick question i had as i got the kemopla model kits in and they are my first real ones: is their any particular kind of matte coating I need if i'm wanting to give them one?
by that I mean is it okay to go with the spraycans or should I opt for brush-on stuff? I've messed with miniatures in the past but never bothered to put a matte or glossy coat on anything
I was pretty sure I'd read somewhere it was more so preference but I'm wondering if a spray would be a bad choice for a smaller kit or for someone new to it and likely to overdo it
>>
>>11731926
I always use mr hobby super clear spray.
There's no reason to use brush-on stuff if all you want to do is spray the whole kit.
And obviously, you want to go with matte since you're making kemopla which is furry stuff. (Unless you're going with wet fur concept)

Do naked-body replacements exist for Megalomaria kits like these? I already have Maria Kagaribi on my wishlist, and I saw the demo video where they swapped the heads with another kit with a schoolgirl sailor uniform, but I was leaning towards getting a body replacement that I could put cloth clothes on for more customization/fashion potential. That's already what I'm planning to do with the Nuke Matrix Cyclone Hopper, since it's 1/12 scale and I'm going to be headed to SE Asia on vacation this summer where I could probably get ahold of 1/12 scale clothes without paying an arm and a leg.

Symphogear sounds like the better choice but let's face it, bandai almost never makes good choices
personally, and if it would depend of me, I would take a certain (In)famouS series from over a decade ago and make kits of the girls (just because I don't want to pay a minimum of $200 for one of the old figures in good condition)

NTA but pretty much ALL shipping companies have issues at some point.
Shit just happens.
UPS destroyed my package.
Fedex sent my package to a wrong address and it was forever lost.
DHL sent my package to a wrong COUNTRY.
USPS had my package stolen in customs.
>>11732045
It's usually like every 3 months or so for each season and a small useless sale in between which they recently had.
>>
>>11732025
Nope. Actual body modification parts largely only exist for MD due to how Koto did their licensing bullshit (basically they only allow it for MD and nothing else). And since the only people really making much in terms of customization parts are Japanese or in a country nearby that obeys (mostly) Japanese IP laws and what not, nobody really ends up doing anything other than MD parts.
>>11731926
>preference
The "preference" part you hear about is always in reference to the TYPE of finish (gloss, semi-gloss, matte), not the actual brand. Most brands of canned topcoat suck asshole because they're not meant for things with tiny details. If you're going the canned route then try something better like the Mr. Hobby sprays. Tamiya TS sprays as a close second. And while you can use hobby-grade brush on stuff only really do so if it's all you've got access to, or if you're just putting it over basic details and small bits (brushing some gloss over a lens or something for example).
>>11732045
Kind of. They do holiday sales on the days you'd expect it, but they're usually super mediocre and either for items that nobody really wants anyways, or such a pitifully tiny deal that you might as well consider there to be no deal at all.
>>
>>11732050
So a spring sale would be imminent, but I guess if the discounts are so minimal there's not much point waiting. They gave me a 15% off code for my first order, but I guess it's already expired.
>>11732048
Christ, I guess I should count my blessings that after all the orders I made on Temu/Aliexpress, I never had issues that bad, minus a few damaged boxes.
>>
>>11732050
Hmm, not even Chinese aftermarket kits? The Chinese are notorious for not giving a shit about Japanese IP law, that's why they've been shitting out all sorts of Gundam shit from outright clones of Bandai kits to making Gundam IP kits like 1/100 Kshatriya or 1/144 Serpent Custom.
I mean, I guess before I even contemplate something like this, I'd need to find out if the Megalomaria kits even correspond to any similar existing scale like 1/12. If it does, then it would probably be possible to find a 1/12 scale body (I've seen loads of them on Ali) and then find a way to kitbash it.

Oh Jesus shit, this whole thing is its entire own goddamned ecosystem, isn't it?
I started out thinking, "Hey, I like this girlpla with the red sword and black dress, and they showcased a similar-looking girlpla that goes with it in a black schoolgirl uniform, maybe I can get one or both and do some dress-up for maximum fashion." And then it turns out that there are entire dress-up bodies designed at different sizes and different skin tones for the short or tall girls, and you can buy different styles of feet and shoes and props, and there are entire hair styles that are sold separately, and whole other bodies with different clothing options from swimsuits to sportswear, and holy shit what kind of hole did I just dig myself into. Not to mention that it's all 1/10 scale, which I can't seem to find any clothing of on AliExpress, and which is clearly going to be incompatible with the 1/12 scale Cyclone Hopper.
It would be a hell of a less headache to get only the Dress Code, now that I know what I'm getting into here.

1/12 and 1/10 clothing are close enough to be interchangeable.
SSJ recently launched 1/6 scale dress up bodies, which will be easier to get clothing for.
Be sure to check places like Amiami (if you're not banned), Suruga-ya (they got a bulk sale*+free EMS shipping until 12th right now) or Mandarake (good if you're buying one or two 'small' kits as they have limited shipping options) for pre-owned kits at a bargain.
You'll be paying for the shipping and customs tax, but it's usually cheaper than paying 350% of MSRP in Yrop.
Air mail package costs somewhere between 2k-4k yen from my experience if it's one or two kits.
Be sure to pay in Yen, too. Places like HLJ run their own conversion into other currencies and, obviously, it's cheaper to pay in JPY.
*Suruga-ya upcharges their items with gaijin tax, and during a bulk sale you gotta order like 30k yen worth of items before discount for it to be a good deal.

Yup, they have a spring sale at some point. It's still worth checking out on the rare occasion something you might like goes on sale for an okay price, but it's not something you should EVER bank on. The only time you get Japanese figures and kits for a steal anymore is through the BST thread, other personal sales places (like on MFC), or when Suruga ya's English site is doing free shipping promos.
>>
>>11732065
Yup, even the Chinese. In the past number of years they've started increasingly not fucking with Japanese IP law for certain things (I'm sure there's probably some sort of more recent legal/cultural reason why, but I've not heard of it myself). That's why those bootleg kits using literal copies of old FAG and MSG parts no longer get made and haven't for years. They do, however, copy third party shit like no tomorrow, so a lot of the MD body kits and what not made by Japanese fan creators have bootlegs. Again, no idea why, but the only thing they do with Koto's girlpla at this point is just copy other shit the Jap fans make for them, and since the Jap fans don't make shit for anything but MD the Chinese don't have any MM stuff to copy. Whereas on the flip side, like you mentioned, they give zero shits about Bandai and just openly create their own take on their designs. Shit's weird.

So I'm looking through past FAG kits through Dalong and it occurred to me that Chubby here has a separate hip piece whereas recent releases before her don't have it. I'm also noticing that the elbow join is also different too.
Is this an unofficial introduction to a new joint system in the future or are these things exclusive to chubbies only?
>>
>>11732871
Separate hips were already a thing since Materias and recent boat girls and china dress burgers have em too.
Design-wise, MDs had them since the beginning but that specific hip is for Kagu series because of the hip being attached on a inner body frame.
I don't think it'll work on other thin girls tho.
It looks like the hip inner frame exists only because of Kagu's ameri-fat body.
Not sure what you mean by different elbows cuz they're the same elbow like other girls.

Not sure if it's just me, but the tits don't look as bad (or as big) on her as they did with the previous release, either - looking at the actual runners, I think they shrank her a cup size, so they look less like saggy torpedoes (though they are still sculpted at an awkward angle). This is purely speculation based off the product images, but I think Mephisto specifically is at most formerly bad, but now shadows Emma at all times to keep her safe. I think the in universe show is based at least partially on truth, it's just the settings are changed significantly.
Also, the Sousai, Megalomaria, and Hexagear worlds are all the same, and build towards each other in a span less than 20 years. The base world is Sousai, Megalomaria is happening in the background, and it's events leads to the technology of Hexagear.
Bonus points if once Hexagear is resolved they develop Megami Devices

>Also, the Sousai, Megalomaria, and Hexagear worlds are all the same, and build towards each other in a span less than 20 years. The base world is Sousai, Megalomaria is happening in the background, and it's events leads to the technology of Hexagear.
Emma has Hexagear model kits, and Kuon plays Maria in a TV show, so the Sousai world is the base world and both Hexagear and Megalomaria are fictional properties in their world.
As for Mephisto specifically, they're a mass-produced(?) form of Another, though a singular black/green "Prototype" individual exists who (in-universe) may be a defector and seems to be the one the red varians are based off of.

Sure. I actually took one earlier. Even though I included Sylphy I don't really count her since she has straight up chibi proportions. Gii is the third shortest girlpla ever made with the Chitocerium loli-twins and Goldymarg being tied for first and second place. They come up to just a smidge over Gii's eyes, so they're barely any shorter, but shorter nonetheless. Regardless, she's fucking TINY. All the more hilarious considering how monstrous her box is. All that space is used up with runners though. She's a pretty crazy roller coaster experience lol.

That comic and art book had separate "lore" from actual Frame Arms and established Frame Arms Girls (or at least just Durga) as actual magical girls, capable of "synchronization" with Frame Arms and summoning them as armor and weaponry to battle.

>A male Another with a devilish appearance. He is suspected to be affiliated with the "Twilight Cult" because he acts together with other Bloodless, but no one has ever seen his human form.
>He prefers simple, rough fighting styles such as punching and kicking. He is a unique existence among the Bloodless, who often use indirect tactics, but his abilities are on par with the higher-ranking Bloodless. He is

So yeah, he's a bad guy - the Bloodless are the evil Anothers like the Seekers, and the Twilight Cult are the guys who are responsible for turning people into them. It does seem like there's only one of him, though.

When is Maria Kagaribi Dress Code supposed to release? I was going to order it at USAGS because they have a 15% off sale right now, but they apparently don't get it in until near the end of the year. Did I just pull the trigger too late and have to wait for later shipments now?

Thanks, good to know I wasn't getting cucked. That gives me a little more time to think about if/how/where I'm going to find a Kuon in the meantime, and the dress-up body, both of which seem to be rather scarce here in the US. Two more things to prioritize finding on my vacation to SEA this summer I guess.

I may have found Mei in a different store, but it's not on sale, so I might have to brace myself any time soon. To be honest, they could pair well with my High Grade Dragonars. I kept thinking in my head that they would be the perfect match for promoting Metal Armor Dragonar by next year (which should be its 40th anniversary).

Huh, only just found out that earlier 30ms kits had the common issue of their necks breaking. I know it should happen a lot less now but has anyone got unlucky? I have a Rishetta kit that was printed in July of 2022 so I would HOPE that it shouldn't be a problem.

I'M DONE! Five hours total not counting breaks because of my slow but precise movements to batch build 2/3 of Straylight. While I want to be ready to hunt down and build Mei, I need a different kind of break before I do so.
As for issues I notice, while Asahi feels fine building despite one of her forearms falling off its runner, Fuyuko has major issues in her head, primarily the neck pivot area and her left hair strand piece, both don't like to stay in their places. That should be something future me should fix someday. I just pray I get the Samurai Troopers stuff someday for my thought experiment...

Cool, I did Rydira recently - she is cute tomboy, hope that Bandai will make more of her. Ankles problems were related to how tight connections between feet and ankles are, after sanding holes they goes smoothly and without issues.
By the way, noticed that next wave of Bandai kits reached Europe, as predicted skipping Sestieh and that Japanese one with pink clothes and flail. Bummer. And they temporary halted sea shipping for obvious reasons so there will be another jams.

Bandai completely fucked up this batch of sisters, further made worse by highly questionable choices of what to ship. As a result, European shops have shortage of 30MS, except of Idolmaster kits that warm shelves since, surprise, surprise - almost nobody outside of Japan even recognise most of those girls, let alone is willing to pay extra for basically unique faceplates and hairstyles.

Hows the skin color matching between 30ms and other lines like Megami Device and Arcanadea? I like how 30ms does the glutes with them being a solid part with the thighs, much preferable to a butt plate the other lines seem to favour imo. want to mix some bits from different lines.

How does painting work for these ladies? Am I supposed to paint the sprues before or after assembly. I know for warhammer you do it after, but that seems not very possible with these girls because of articulation.
I built my first girl and I'm honestly not even sure if she needs painting, is this just something people do to polish them up for close up photos? Do I need to paint them to make the deckles adhere?
Sorry for the dumb questions this is my first model that isn't warhammer when I was 12 20 years ago.

1220 years ago?
Jokes aside, painting is purely personal thing - most plastic girls, especially new models, are already quite good in color separation department, only requiring some small detail painting (usually done with a brush) and panel lining. But people often paint them whole or do custom colors, it's your model after all, you are supposed to have fun with them. Decals will adhere to bare plastic just fine, some might need decal setter as well but I generally see no problem here. Articulation is not a problem either - you just need to remember to sand areas around joints slightly (not much) to "make room" for primer + paint + varnish layers and avoid painting too thick here. Sometimes you might require to paint in few steps by moving joint to make sure paint gets into visible areas but you usually take model apart anyway (reasonably, like removing limbs, armor parts, etc, not taking her apart back to before assembly) so it's not a problem.
If it's your first model after long break and you only painted miniatures before, I suggest getting some cheap model first for training purposes. It would be a shame to fuck up some expensive/rare plastic girl instead, even if you can always strip and try again. Always remember - you don't HAVE to do anything, it's your model and fun.

She has really nice sculpt, color separation and cute face. However the articulation, especially hips, is really limited, and the joints are too tight so sanding is a must.

Ami has finally put up a statement regarding shipment suspension.
Oddly enough the countries within europe they wrote down as part of the suspension seem very random.
I swear to god they omitted majority of them just to punch in those sales and send out emails about shipping being on hold later.

Making headway!
One part broke, but it's not a part you would expect. The roof of Meteor's mouth is a small piece with a very flimsy peg that pushes up into the skull during the build, and- well, I already said that it broke. Superglue to the rescue, again.

Depends on what color you want. Each line's baseline white (A for MD) is mostly the same across all of girlpla. Outside of that it can vary a bit for the other tones, especially tanned ones. Your real problem with switching waist pieces (asses), thighs, and the like is that they typically don't fit too well across lines. The general rule of thumb is that peg and ball joint sizes for limbs (not necks or torsos) is similar enough that you can often swap them, but not body parts outside of that. And even on the limbs you can swap they're often not the correct proportions. That's why in customs the most you tend to see for body swapping is head swaps since body parts just aren't all that compatible a lot of the time. You can customize them to work, of course, but at that point you're putting in so much work that you might as well just sculp on top of and paint the pre-existing parts to suit your aesthetic needs.

>>
>>
>>11737132
Not really. Past a certain point Chinkpla is all the same quality-wise. All the ones that've -tried- to get better reach this "chinkpla quality plateau" of sorts where they've all got good part and color separation (too much at times, of course), the plastic quality is serviceable, and fitting issues are manageable. ATK Girls reached that level with the Shadow Hunter duo release. Those and the ones after are fine.
>>
>>11737132
Middle range not lower. Their quality has improved alot over the years. Also have stopped being quite so directly based off megami device, though still use some basic engineering like everyone else designing musume kits.
