>What's New?
-Mattel showed off a new wave of Hammond Collection dinosaurs, but weirdly, Scorpius is the only one that's gone up for preorder anywhere, and even weirder, it's only been on Walmart's site instead of Target getting first dibs like it usually does. The Wave includes Scorpisu, Indominus, Mutodon, the JWR Dilophosaurus, Hypsilophodon, and a life-size Delores.
- Nanmu Spinosaurs should be shipping soon followed not long after by their nile crocodile. Their Allosaurus only recently went up for preorder so don't expect it until October. After that their Jurassic World Rebirth Tyrannosaurus is expected to go up for pre-order.
-Creative Beast Studio is shipping out their most recent wave of Beasts of the Mesozoic figures, with the wave of Cyberzoic figures expected to ship next month. They are taking preorders for their new wave of BotM/BotC figures, which should ship this summer. The wave includes the Woolly Rhino (Coelodonta antiquitatis), Spicomellus, Moeritherium, Kentrasaurus, Kelenken, the Dire Wolf (Aenocyon), Ceratosaurus, and Acrocanthosaurus as the first giant theropod since the Tyrannosaurus Rex. Speaking of the Rex, the T. rex 2.0 is expected to go up for pre-order when the Acro Wave ships and is hinted to include a Trike 2.0 and the long-awaited juvenile Trikes; no other species have been confirmed with that wave.

Got home and started taking some pictures, and formed some more solid thoughts on these guys.
>Pachy
This was the only pic I could think of that looked interesting for Pachy. Pachy looks great but I'm struggling to find nice poses for the bonk boy. Ankles are still shit even this far out after the soak, so I guess they're just like that now. Basically can't get any standing poses out of him without the stand, or leaning him back. But the stand is really loose too for some reason? Only BotM where the stand didn't feel sturdy as fuck.
I still like it, but I wish it felt as good to handle as it looked.
Unrelated but good god was it a bitch to get this pose to stay long enough to take a picture
>>
>>11751470
And already fucked it up. Goddamn it.
>>
>>11751473
>Smilodon
It's nice, but I keep catching myself wishing it featured a few things that it simply doesn't.
It is so tantalizingly close to being able to do a lazy cat flopped over pose, but the shape of its body always keeps it from laying down quite right. I keep finding myself wishing it could do the shoulder thing. You know the thing, every cat does it.
Also, its legs do not have a lot of in/out positioning, though I am wondering how much of that is just that I got the 1/18 instead of the 1/12.
>>
>>11751479
Remember to keep your cats indoors, anon, or you are the problem.
>>
>>11751480
>Gorgo
Love this fella like you wouldn't believe. You can certainly tell that it's missing some of the newer engineering with how the ankles work, though. Compared to my Allo, this guy is extremely limited. And his ankles were already loose out the box. Then I popped one of them off. Once. Now its ankle is feels like it's barely even connected. But it LOOKS so good, man, every flaw hurts because it's otherwise so damned good.
If not for the flaws, it would absolutely be my new favorite. Also, maybe it's the forward-facing eyes, maybe it's the mouth-shape,or maybe it's some other third thing, but this thing's face just has so much more personality than the Allo's does.

Smilodon seems a little small for S. populator.
>>
>>11751658
Probably just the angle of the picture, took another quick pic and used yours as a reference and it seems a slightly oversized, actually.
Which seems to be a general theme for CBs figures, from what I've seen. The Achillobator is bigger than most estimates of even Utahraptor's top size, for instance. They seem to lean towards slightly oversized or at least 'theoretical max"
Worth saying after a lazy measurement, the height of the human figure at 1/18 translates to a flat 6 feet tall.
>>
>>11751670
To be fair the Achillobator reuses a lot of Utahraptor parts
>>
>>11751671
True enough, though they could have artificially scaled it down with a shorter tail. I don't have enough of them to compare, but it seems like that's something they do with some of the earlier members of the raptor line and the small members of the tyrannosaur line.
>>
For fun, let's say you have the power to implement exactly one (1) JW Evolution exclusive dino/design to the Hammond Collection, which one do you choose?
>>
>>11751479
>though I am wondering how much of that is just that I got the 1/18 instead of the 1/12.
The 1/12 has the same issues. The elbow joints are super limiting, and the shoulders don't have the range they should have to pull off the sort of grappling techniques that S. populator would have been capable of.

Adorable, I'm glad I have one, wish I had a few to make a family.

Forgive my ignorance, but is there any brand currently making decent quality dino figures that aren't "scientifically accurate" designs catering to the paleo community? Ideally it'd be something in the same vein as the "Dinosaurs Attack!" trading cards, with the old school conception of dinosaurs as "terror lizards," etc.. I'm just nostalgic for the Madeinchinasaurs I had as a kid, I guess.
>>
>>11752128
I guess just Mattel's stuff? Otherwise it's going to be figurines like Papo or Schleich or whatever.

>Opinions on HC baby Triceratops?
It's a cute little toy. I kind of wish I had grabbed two more.
>>11751807
Easily Yutyrannus. The JWE 2 Yu is the best looking Yu and I love it so much.
>>11752089
That's the hasbro timber wolf from one of their GI Joe sets. It's 1/12, but it's a great little figure. Their animals are all pretty solid.
>>11752128
Hasbro is doing a Deinonychus in a GI Joe 2 pack with a Cobra scientist so that might be something you are interested in.
>>
>>11752216

>>
What's a good, inexpensive Dino ($15 ideally, or less) that articulates some, but I don't really need anything - it's just a background prop for a Spider-Man, or other figures, to sit on top like PICREL or to fight.
>>
>>11752304
If they were all at their realistic maximum sizes... hard to say. Andrewsarchus could probably obliterate the bones of the other carnivores if it can get a hold of them, but a polar bear probably weighs about the same and while it's bite isnt anywhere near as powerful, it has the ability to grapple which Andrewsarchus can't do because of its ungulate feet. Smilodon is probably 400 kilos lighter than either the Andrewsarchus or the polar bear so despite being a grappler and a megafaunal specialist, I dont think it stands a chance in a free for all without its pack. The Timber wolf is in an even worse position a good swipe from the Smilodon or polar bear will gut it and a bite from the andrewsarchus will be instantly fatal. The juvenile Trike probably still has the mass to deliver a lethal hit with its horns, but all of the predators hunt horned/antlered animals so they'd be intelligent enough to avoid being gored.

In the end I'm probably gonna go with the polar bear, but it just takes one good bite from the Andrewsarchus for things to go a different direction

Thanks for replying.
Not even at Ross or Burlington? I'm pretty sure I walked by some Jurassic World toys just because I don't collect them (and my nieces and nephews had other interests) before the holidays but I do find some now, when I go look, just smaller sized than I remember. The kind that sell for about $5-10 at Target.

>>11753047
Thanks. I guess I should try thrift stores since it's also nothing urgent. I bought the 9" Yeti and a 12" (hard plastic) Godzilla that work as background for under $10/$20, so I just hate paying that much more for something I won't keep up on continuous display.

>>11754069
I get why they went with Apex... but I really do wish they'd just made it the size of the average Stenops. I get that making it the big makes it easier to swap out the plates to sell it as Ungulatus since they dont have to change anything else about the sculpt, but Apex is twice the size of the average stenops. At this size the 1/35 scale stego will be usable as an average specimen of Stegosaurus stenops.

Just yet another braindead monkey paw decision by creative beast
>>
>>11752736
This one is probably also not big enough? It's currently $17 free shipped on EBAY -
and yes, I realize it's Fischer Price, I do like the color however again it's background fodder for one display/photos
>>
>>11754375
These are $22 free shipped but I wish it wasn't so dark and would probably put some kinda wash on it - maybe some blue highlights or something?

And the Ross near me had one as big as this Mattel but they fucking wanted $29 for it, from a supposed $59 MSRP.
>>
>>11754356
It's not braindead at all, it means that they dont have to pay to do tooling to make the sculpt larger and more detailed when they do ungulatus since they'll be able to reuse everything except the plates just like how they reused everything on Allosaurus jimmadseni for fragilis except the head, even though fragilis is generally larger than jimmadseni.
Apex might be the only stenops of that size we know so far, but it's unlikely to have been the only 7 ton stenops to have ever existed so it's not as if CB was making shit up, it was just doing what's cost effective.

>>
>>11754404
The new Hiya G.I. Joe Spirit Iron-Knife. Probably one of their best figures yet for the line, now that they fixed the neck and made the hair a softer plastic so it doesnt obstruct head movement. They are annoying to get because Hasbro doesnt allow them to be sold in the US so you have to get them through chinese stores for a mark-up.

My Dilophosaurus has arrived and after just unpacking it I have mixed feelings. I can only compare it to the hammond collection (and schleich, but what sense would that make?)
>1. Box
looks better and unpacking it is smoother than the hammond ones
>2. Smell
There is a really strong plastic smell after unpacking it, HC Allosaurus and Stegosaurus got that too but not as strong and it was gone way faster. Which is wierd considering both are a lot bigger than the Dilophosaurus
>3. figure
Feels fantastic, paint job is perfection, I think there is not s single mistake made, which is a first for me with toys in general. You can really see the price difference here.
>4. articulation
It's insane how a few more joints give that much more possibilities with poses, 3 vs 2 neck joints should not be that big of a difference.
>5 joints
Most joints work well but I got a quite loose ankle and tight as fuck knees, so in that regard it's on the same level as HC figures.

>>

>>
>>
>>11755125
Oh yeah... that happened

Hasbro has never recovered their mojo
>>
>>11754748
no, I don't have a hair dryer and I'm scared of putting my, expensive, plastic dino in boiling water.
>>
>>11755225
You can get a hair dryer off Amazon for $15, and if you're gonna continue buying creative beast shit you're gonna need it.
>>
>>11755290
>and if you're gonna continue buying creative beast shit you're gonna need it.
So even in this price range I can't expect a flawless toy? That's silly.
>>
>>11755316
The real pill to swallow is that they're often worse. The high prices are partially because they're made by a small company in numbers significantly lower than mainstream. Something like a hammond collection figure may have flaws, but one thing you can guarantee is that 99.99% of those figures will be identical and function as they're supposed to. You said your Dilo had great paint, but Creative Beast dinos have had notoriously inconsistent, often downright bad paint jobs throughout the line. Joints are often stuck, or in many cases poorly engineered so they don't often much motion at all despite technically being super articulated.

It might sound like I'm being overly negative but even now brand new figures they have coming out are chock full of issues, and for every one perfect release they have there's ten or so with a lot of issues. The good news is they've been improving over the years, so you're coming in at a decent time. I'd recommend asking around for what people largely consider the best releases, and always waiting for figures to actually be released and checking out reviews before buying.
>>
>>11755225
Microwave water and then put the offending joint in for 30 seconds.
>>11755316
Are you serious? You have to hit Hiya figures, SH Monsterarts digures, and Mythic legions figures with hot air or hot water to free up the joints this is standard for most high end figures.
>>
>>11755225
I'm the one who asked you originally. Personally, I prefer to use a hair dryer. I don't boil. I've heated plenty of figures, you're not going to damage them. It softens the plastic after being under the heat for 20-30 secs. You should be all good imo.
>>
>>11755316
CB figures can have a number of issues, but needing to heat up your expensive figure to losen the joints can hardly be considered a fault of their own. It's a borderline ubiquitous fact about most expensive toylines and even some not so expensive ones that you need to heat up their joint to be able to free them up to move better. Many even require the adddition of silicon shock oil to truely get them free. My SHMA Destroyah is $45 more expensive than my stegosaurus and my Super7 Destroyah was $100 cheaper than my stegosaurus, but they both required being nuked with the hair drier to free up their joints and a little bit of shock oil to make sure they stayed free. My nanmu Tyrannosaur was good, but the carnotaurus was practicaly frozen solid. These are all just things you have to deal with when you get figures shipped from asia and the containers they are in swing wildly in tempurature.
>>
>>11755543
>silicon shock oil
Enjoy your cracked joints. Use silicon grease instead.
>>
>>11754552
Try emailing David. He might send a replacement head if he has any spares.

>>11755411
>this is standard for most high end figures
Incorrect. It's standard for NECA and their ilk, but actual high end toys are either engineered to have proper tolerances out of the box or already have their joints lubed up at the factory. Needing to heat up a high end toy is an aberration, not the norm.

>>11755722
I've never had any issues with shock oil eating away at plastic and causing cracks.
>>
>>11756142
Some plastics are more susceptible than others, but oil always has a chemical reaction with plastic. Even the shock oils that advertise themselves as 100% silicon, aren't. Grease is more annoying to apply since it's far less viscous, but it is completely safe.

These were at Ross while I was in a different county for something else, and Google Maps showed me four different Ross' with three miles of the Walmart I wanted to check out. I am hunting for a specific hasbro figure that's been popping up at Ross but also want a dinosaur big enough to stand a 6" inch Spider-Man on top.

I think these are the just reboxed of the $24-$29 figures at Walmart and Target? Because I can't find this packaging on Amazon or BBTS. They were $12.99. I returned the green one because the ruffle would limit where I could stand Spidey and I took the TRex home but will probably put a red wash on him.

I was actually hoping for a Fisher Price since those would be brighter and more fake looking.
