The TFCC made concept art 11797847 a BW Megs out of Animated Grimlock, but it never went anywhere

My immediate ideas would be
>G1 Retro Minibots à la United G1 Prime
>show scale Beast Wars characters like the canceled Dinobot
>Spychangers with actual articulation, could easily be redecoed several times over
>Operation Combination Micromaster combiners, starting with Devastator/Sixbuilder to match Volcanicus/Dinoking

release some cores
actually, make the class about 30% bigger. Core should be to deluxe what deluxe is to voyager. The recent cores are too small. They're the height of old Beast Wars 'basics' but significantly thinner. If you aren't gonna make chunkybots, then make them bigger.

>>11797970
Make a buncha new guys, have them turn into cars and planes and shit, make up some shit how they landed on an alien world and are fighting over energon as per usual. You can do 6-12 guys on either side, don't have to be bound by Earth altmodes and could look pretty cool if all the vehicles had some consistent alien aesthetic.
Or just make them regular cars and tanks or whatever, it hardly matters. The point is to just make some new guys.
>>
>>
>>
>>11798033
i was about to say 'they can raise the price a bit' except cores already cost way more proportionately than higher size classes.
probably because of packaging and shit
>>11798035

>>
>>11798035
I'm bored of seeing the same guys, I want some new ones. Besides, I like the idea of the Cybertronian civil war having little fronts all across the stars, not just Cybertron/Earth/Nebulon or whatever. I think it'd be cool to start fresh with some new guys on an unfamiliar world like they did in Beast Wars. Nobody gave a fuck about those new guys at first but decades later people still like them and have favorites like Quickstrike or even toy-only ones like Airhammer.
>>
>>
>>11798052
I can understand not making any more toys of the guys they've been making (Ironhide, Soundwave etc), but I mean, there's tons of teams and lineups that are still incomplete because Hasbro never made any CHUG figure of them.
see>>11798054
>>
>>11798054
I want a new Micromaster Autobot HQ with the combining micromaster dudes, and Landfill, and my nigga Tote.
>>11798059
Fresh blood could invigorate the toyline, I'm never opposed to more chug guys too but I like my idea more than Weaponizers or those fossil guys they did. Maybe make it more of a thing by doing a web short or something introducing new characters, then people might care more and want to buy them. It worked with the Bay films after all.
>>
>>11798064
But that's not what the Generations line is for. It's literally in the name. It's celebrating the various generations of Transformers over the years. Occasionally, they throw in new guys, but 95% is new toys for the generations of characters.
Like I said, there's tons of guys who could use new toys and for most people, they would be new guys anyway because they're fairly obscure so everybody would be happy.
>>
>>
>>
>>11797983
I think there's some truth to this. Core class stopped making sense when the average deluxe size was shrinking with the addition of minibots.
There's also the fact that rising prices meant the cheap, impulse buy price point was no longer cheap enough to impulse buy (but still looked cheap).
I also doubt poor sales at the time were a factor. They wouldn't have expanded to studio series if they were struggling to sell the mainline stuff.
>>
>>11798072
>But that's not what the Generations line is for
I was responding to
>>11797970
>How would (You) stop Core Class from dying if you were in charge?
And said they should do a bunch of new guys.
Not everything has to be Generations anon, they can do other stuff sometimes and it might even not suck for once.

Star of the Dark God, part 1:
Millions of years ago in the Galaxy Force World, Primus is aided in his plans of Transformer colonization by a team of Autobots from another universe led by Optimus Prime. With the visitor's spaceship technology and the Cyber Planet Keys derived from Primus's spark, they seek to bring together all sentient beings across space. While the disappearance of Gigantion ended the Space Bridge Project proper, all four spaceships landed on their proper planets and the colonists on all developed a vibrant culture that enures to this day. Optimus Prime helped found Velocitron and is now in permanent rest somewhere...

the present day, Shockwave has revealed himself as the mastermind behind the Nemesis's transformation into Nemesis Prime using the remnant of Unicron's power from his destroyed universe that he seeks to bring back by resetting this world. With his Terrorcons mass-produced by Nemesis Prime's Wheelhouse trailer, Shockwave gathers energy and seeks out Optimus Prime, whom he has not found on the other planets, so he concludes he must be on Velocitron. He forces his new servant to hand over the Heart of Cybertron, which has been refashioned into a Matrix, as the Decepticon intended. The Terrorcons alert their master to their discovery of the Autobot leader in stasis lock underground.
>>
>>11798105
Knowing of Optimus's transformation into the mighty Star Convoy, Shockwave instigates a similar transformation by implanting the Unicron orb with the energy accumulated by the Terrorcons. Optimus Prime's body glows and expands, and the rechristened "Nemesis Star Convoy" emerges from the ground!
>>
>>11798107
The alarmed Clocker identifies the new entity as sharing the same wicked energy as the Grand Black Hole which threatened the universe, and Jolt informs the others that Primus has confirmed the giant as the powered up form of the "missing ancient warrior", who Motormaster takes as his eternal rival from his own world.
>>
>>11798110
Metroplex takes on Nemesis Star Convoy, despite lacking his Sparkdrinker axe, and is summarily taken down by the dark warrior's Chaos Bringer cannon. To help in the battle, Hot Shot activates his Cyber Key power, revealing that Primus has endowed them with new color change upgrades, becoming Fire Hot Shot. Motormaster, having come to this world to find such power, notes that this wasn't from either an evil god's power or forestonite. Before he can mull things further, the two are accosted by the corrupted modules of Optimus Prime—his trailer (reconfigured as a Micro Trailer) and Roller (in his Micro Carrier form).

The Stunticons are left on the devastated planet of Velocitron. Drag Strip figures that Shockwave and Nemesis Star Convoy must be going to the G1 World to acquire the power of that universe's Unicron, Angolmois Energy. They attend to the fallen Nemesis Prime, who was hurt by friendly fire—Shockwave only needed the Heart of Cybertron from her. Motormaster has his team reintegrate Nemesis Prime back into the Nemesis's brain circuits and return to their home universe.

As Nemesis Star Convoy travels to the G1 World, the Sideways duo, Sideways and Noisemaze, reveal themselves. As Unicron acts as the natural counterpart to Primus, the evil god will never truly die. The black mist born from Unicron's power has revived the sparks of those who were absorbed or fused with Unicron, including Sideways himself. Shockblast, on the other hand, seems to have mixed with Mirage, giving him a new name and a new alternate mode (Energon Shockblast used Shockwave's jp name, Laserwave, while Mirage was called Shockfleet and used the Shockwave name in his original, the one we remember as Tidal Wave) matching that of his hated rival. Sideways promised Shockwave that they'll resurrect his brother once they've completed their goal of using an empowered Nemesis Star Convoy to destroy the Galaxy Force World and bring back the MD World, but this was all a lie. While Unicron can create a similar universe, his brother is still forevermore dead. The true brains behind Unicron, Sideways has Nemesis Star Convoy grab Shockwave and use him to rip a hole in spacetime to the G1 World.

The Stunticons aboard the Nemesis finally return to their home universe, only to see that Nemesis Star Convoy has combined with the halves of Cybertron in base mode. Chained in the depths of Nemesis, Shockwave notes that he expected this betrayal all along, having used some of the Terrorcons' energy to create a bullet that carried a control module into Nemesis Star Convoy's nervous system. With his radar dish as a remote control for his creation and the Terrorcons, Shockwave swears that if they can't resurrect his brother, then he'll start destroying all universes, starting with this one.
>>11798156
Nah, it's just Shockblast using the Nemesis computer, turning into a Prime, the steals the heart of cybertron from it. Shockblast was revived in the Cybertron continuity after his death in Energon and did all this for his bro.
>>
>>11798168
Major things:
-Giant Dark Amber, that 2010 Armada Unicron G1 retool and Star Convoy are all on scale with their toys.
-Planet X's gold cyber key finally shows up, and they actually used the Unicron connection Sideways/Noisemaze had in his takara toy blurbs, that key drawing upon Unicron's energies.
-In Japan, Sideways from the UT are different characters(Double Face for ML, Noizemaze for GF)but homaging that, they're essentially called team Sideways here since their new toys use the english names.
-Like mentioned earlier, both Tidal Wave and Shockblast used the Shockwave name in Japan, one using the jp version, the other using the en version. Shockblast hated Tidal Wave so being called that really pisses him off.
-Armada Sideways has always been a bit nebulous on how much he was his own character, or if he was just some puppet used by Unicron. The dub made it seem like the latter, while the jp version went with the former (he was possessed, but was aware and working in simbiosis) this is the first time he's shown up as an individual and clearly had no issues assuming full control of Unicron.

I'd love it if a Transformers line did this. New characters with new designs would help paper over the deficiencies of modern Hasbro, too. The biggest issue with Generations for the last decade is that far too many figures pale in comparison to their predecessors, whether it's the previous CHUG iteration or the original toy. I honestly can't think of anything out of WFC/Legacy/AOTP I like the most. Studio Series is even worse about this with respect to the Bay movies.
I'm not even trying to be contrarian. I'm sure there's something I'm just not thinking of, but it's (almost) all just charmless downgrades.

awesome i didnt know it's a new toy. This fish was always one of my favs - in every "dinosaur encyclopedia" it was one of the coolest creatures to look at.
It's a fish with a shell-head and a bunch of literal razors in his mouth.
there should be transformer of it
>>
>>11798469
Yeah Devonian era fish were always my favorite in documentaries or books like you mentioned too. Again i had no idea this was going to be a toy in the JW line until i saw him in person yesterday. I was so happy seeing him on the peg, like if a character you thought would never get a figure in a million years suddenly has one and you only just found out about it when you see him on store shelves. I felt like a kid again in that regard.
>there should be transformer of it
Oh totally but hasbro doesnt really design new beast alt mode characters anymore they only remake older legacy beast wars characters as new figures
>>
>>
>>11798445
The new Animated stuff is a little trickier to judge because they're trying to meet the other figures in the middle, but even then they feel like lazy downgrades that don't commit to the aesthetic transition. The face sculpts in particular are just peculiar. I certainly don't think they're better than the Animated line.
>>
>>11798406
But Hasbro did that for a lot of Bayformer movie years. Barely anybody remember PCC Bombshock or Jetblade or Hailstorm/Mindset. You need a show to go with the toyline for the characters to take off or they are going to be "glub shitto" characters people complain about. And even with a show that still happened with a lot of the RID15 characters.
>>
>>
>>11798489
PCC wasn't a very good toyline, though. RID15 never had a chance in general, for various reasons.
For the record, I just said I would like that to happen, not that I think it's in Hasbro's best interest. I don't think a Beast Wars or even Car Robots level refit would be successful, at least not near to that extent. I'm not even sure I would enjoy it. Things are just very different from what they were in 2010 (or 1995), in all kinds of ways. I'm just saying Transformers as an IP has become too captured by self-reference and nostalgia, and while I don't think that's a problem for the Skybound comics it's not very flattering to HasTak's modern capacity as a toy maker.

New molds, yes. The characters themselves...well, Alpha Trion and Prima have been around since G1, Liege has been around since G2, Vector was in the Cybertron cartoon, Alchemist was in Cyberverse (as Maccadam), and even if you didn't read any comics, Megatronus was still in the second Bayverse movie. The others were all in comics over the years, but this is the first time we've gotten toys of most of 'em besides Vector, Megatronus and Alpha Trion (unless you count the Build-a-Figure Maccadam as Alchemist's first toy).

I don't mind the 13 as a concept, but I wish they didn't keep shoving it in our faces. The one time I didn't mind them was in that JG1 version because they're not ancient guys there, just a bunch of assholes led by the only guy who can claim that pedigree (Megatronus, who's from another universe).

I do find it interesting that Transformers is one of the few series where the Japanese side tends to be more sci fi in its explanations while the American side tends to be more spiritual instead. I feel like it’s usually the opposite in most cases
>>
>>
>>11798809
The 13 not being like other incarnations was mostly due to G1 having its origin pretty set, they already tweaked it and there's no real room for the 13. Hell, we're not really sure if they have all 13 traditional members, we already know they don't have an Arisen since Lio Convoy took his place, and we haven't seen a couple of members yet, notably Vector and Alpha.
>>
>>11798811
I feel outside of “life energy” stuff, JPTF isn’t really that openly spiritual. They usually try to explain most stuff in a sci fi way, if a little complicated. Stuff like Primus, the Thirteen, and there being a divinely appointed Prime are all concepts that originate from the US side of TF. Even Vector Sigma, God of the Transformers in JP continuity, is still explained as just being a powerful supercomputer
>>
>>11798830
I should also bring up that Liege will show up in the next toy tie in comic, bu5 what's notable is that he's already around with his Cybertronian empire around 2030's-2040's according to a number of MP bios.

I really hope this isn't about ANOTHER Haslab Unicron! Or even worst, a slightly updated Haslab Unicron. It's bad enough when Hasbro tries to get fans to double dip by releasing a slightly improved version of a toy a couple years later, but there's a huge difference between doing it for a $40 toy and a $500 one!
>>
>>
It bothers me that the best a
Energon axe I can give 86 Prime, is the one included with MPG Optimus... which homage the same feature. None of the third parties seem interested in making one (plenty of useless Megatron arms though). The closest I've seen is a stylized axe on fire, but it's not what I want.
>>
>>11798836

Pretty much, he normally goes giant gun and fires pathetically. The small gun is literally just that, a gun that looks like Shockwave's gun mode to mimic the scene where he held up a gun of himself.
I can only imagine they misinterpreted the script and had Shockwave wielding himself, instead of pointing his gun arm, something like:
-Shockwave aims his gun and shoots.

The G1 toy's backpack was the back of the gun. The barrel was a detachable piece, so now modern Shockwaves split the difference and move the barrel to the back.

I tried for about ten minutes to tab the legs into his arms before consulting the wiki and discovering the following:
>The red portion of the robot torso is entirely new (and appears to be a painted piece sharing a mold with Ramhorn's parts), now with a panel covering the gap behind the head, plus new longer biceps. An unfortunate side effect of the new chest is that the tank mode of the previous release can no longer properly tab together, resulting in its exclusion from this release's instructions.

I bought QQT's jet pants half-regretted it. Their major swivel joints (hips, knees) were tightened by chucking lumps of blutack in there. It does work but you can only move the joint so many times before the blutack comes loose.
>>
Not really feeling mpg 17 Optimus. Mine came with imperfections on the mouth plate, the shoulder ratchets are way too weak, the butterfly joint is loose, the hips extend a comical amount after a single click and it's a bitch to transform it while avoiding the chromed bits. At least I finally have a use for the Ion Cannon in the Centurion pack.

Springer is a pretty popular character and SS86 stuff is clearly a priority right now, so hopefully it won't be too long a wait for the people who missed him. I like the mold aside from the shoulders being a little awkward and wishing there was a little more head articulation. The deco is perfect for cartoon Springer. It only takes one school catapulting and soon every fucking mom will be crawling out of the ductwork like the filthy lizards they are, screeching that we need to ban catapults (and put strict regulations on the length of trebuchets too.)
Anything but admit your abusive-ass kid was fucking asking for a catapulting, or a sicko who catapults people. Or both.
>>
>>11800082
>>11800206
The 2nd amendment protects catapult and trebuchet ownership. I can have it for self defense. If the home robber is 200 yards away and stands still he's FUCKED.
Now I kind of want some transformers that turn into pre-industrial objects. Perceptor could become an Antikythera mechanism I guess, Broadside could turn into a Trireme.
>>
>>11800220
see to me, part of what made transforming robots cool is how they turned into the kinds of machines I thought were relatively cool: modern industrial factory-manufactured boxes of metal. Not spindly spires of wood and cloth. They made me feel like any car could be a robot in disguise.
Now do I want triremes to transform? sure. But that should be magic. A crew of wizard pirates with a ship that turns into a fucking sea dragon, hell yes.
>>
>>11800229
>what made transforming robots cool is how they turned into the kinds of machines I thought were relatively cool: modern industrial factory-manufactured boxes of metal.
100%, but I like trying new things too. A DaVinci flyer seeker trio could be cool, they could suck too but I'd like to see it tried just to find out.
WW1 vehicles are also sorely underutilized, any tank from that era would make for a cool bot. Biplanes too obviously, look at RotF Ransack. I'd be fine with an Astrotrain that turned into the Gustav gun, that'd be cool enough for forgive lacking a third mode.
>>
>>11800234
Yeahhh definitely a lot of potential in oldtimier machines. And I wish they'd bring out experimental ones more often. We do get em, but they're rare. Like that double cockpit plane.
>gustav gun
exactly!
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>11800249
you mean he'd turn into a normal train? I'm not sure that would work, since parts of him would be visibly scaled larger. Y'know this thing was like, being towed by train engines like, uh...
Who's that one Convoy whose altmode is a massive folded-up-robot trailer being towed by a teeny-tiny little truck?
>>
>>11800253
A regular-ass locomotive that shifted form into a big cannon (lots of panels I'm sure, main gun emerging from the top of the vehicle mode) would be cool. Idk if it could be made to work but I'd be interested in seeing.
Making another bot tow him is optional, and probably more profitable.
>>
File: load the chodecannon.png (1.7 MB)
>>11800258
yeah I guess I mean you could make him a GIANT locomotive. But he can't be like, a train of normal size, and then this giant rail cannon, without completely hiding the scale-obvious elements of both modes. And that sounds like a big panel-y mess. But I do like your thinking.
The real trick would be where the cannon goes in robot mode. It's just so fucking long and thin.
Ironically the other largest caliber weapons in history are total chodes, they have the opposite problem if you try to make transformers out of them. way too short and fat
>>
>>11800267
If everyone's cool with Broadside being a plane and an aircraft carrier then I'm not bothered by the scale difference between a standard train and that fuckhuge nazi cannon. Maybe you could do some neat engineering to make the barrel telescoping so it tucks away nicely. Or go full partsforming and make it a seperate piece but I like that idea far less.

I gotta say, the combined mode looks even better in person! It's proportions are great, which is super relieving since I thought frame combiners all had weird proportions. As for the individual bots, I find all the arm bots great, I love the engineering in them, and their alt modes don't look off. Liozack's weird, all of his transformations are super simple, I expected more from the leader! The leg bot alt modes look kinda lazy, i'm guessing they had to "budget" them since the they have so much more mass than anyone else in the set. Though personally, I love how drillhorn's altmode looks! Killbison, not so much. Jaruga is there. They didn't let him do much.

Thunderwing is so fucking cool. I hope he sells gangbusters so they can make a proper Bludgeon too.

Don't get your hopes up
Thunderwing being a mega pretender makes a lot more sense to adapt since the whole thing can actually transform/combine rather than just being a shell. Plus we haven't gotten a Thunderwing in 14 years.
The two recent Tarn-Bludgeons are both very good, probably better than a "proper" pretender Bludgeon would be.

Wrong and gay, queer even. The best Bludgeon we've gotten since the RotF figure is unironically the RID deluxe.

I don't even like this thing all that much amd I loathe IDW but it's obviously better than the Siege/SS86 one.

A lot of the original movie toylines are pretty nice in the alt mode department, even the Scouts. The RID/Car Robots car guys also have nice altmodes, though they're shit otherwise.
And underrated one I'd propose is WFC Bumblebee. It looks so satisfying, and a rare example of a Cybertronian altmode being more than an excuse for laziness. The recent SS version also looks nice, but the robot mode is so naff in comparison to the original I refuse to give it much credit.

NTA, but I personally tend to not like Pretenders because I think the shell gimmick is kind of boring. It’s basically the equivalent of Ultra Magnus's armor not transforming into a trailer for him to pull, which is why I actually do like the Mega Pretenders, since their shells actually do transform

The bigger question here is why you would bother buying a kit that replaces the robot mode head of a character who basically doesn't transform because her whole thing is that she literally believes she's a real magpie. The bigger concern her would be to get a kit that fixes her bird mode, as she's a rare example of a Transformer who's alt mode is more important than her robot one.
The only reason that one fraction-of-a-second, out-of-focus rear shot of her even made it into the show was because her designer was upset that he made a robot mode for her only for the script to demand that she was going to be in bird mode all the time; you never actually see her face, the robot mode is never seen again at any point in the one episode she was in, and her later appearance in that short story had her permanently in bird form at all times.

It's literally her only appearance, so you don't need to see any of the other episodes. Her whole thing is that she's such a birdbrain that she literally believes she's a giant bird, and steals shiny shit to decorate her nest like real Corvids do. She's not actually evil, just animalistic.

Mine only has ball joints for the shoulders (and thighs) and some sideways motion for the arms due to transformation, felt like they could have given him knees, even Bee's knees perhaps
I'm looking at the orange and black and just considering him as a Rodimus who's mastered both the matrix and the darkness inside of it, like a sort of books-only Luke, so I'm rather happy now

One of the few they had to expand for the Dreamwave bio book. Many years after it was published the full Budiansky bio was finally discovered.
>Profile: Hub Cap has everybody's friendship but nobody's trust. He is affable, witty, generous, even charming -- it is no wonder that his fellow Autobots find him such pleasant company. But he's also a con artist. He is likely to enthusiastically accept some work detail one moment and then try to sucker someone else into doing it the next. Or he might try to smooth talk a comrade into trading his weapon for an inferior one. Hub Cap is surprisingly effective at his scams. Perhaps it's the smiling, sincere way he talks or perhaps it's because he looks small and unthreatening. Whatever the case, Hub Cap is living proof of the old Cybertronian adage, "You can't tell an Autobot by it's finish."
>Abilities: Not only is Hub Cap adept at speaking, he's even better at listening. Equipment within his head module allows him to receive a broad spectrum of electromagnetic signals -- AM and FM radio, shortwave, UHF and VHF television broadcasts. He uses his phosphorescent windshield as a television screen when receiving TV signals. Amplifying circuits allow him to detect signals as weak as .000001 watts. His audio circuitry can hear a pin drop 500 yards away, and has a frequency range of 5 to 50,000 Hertz. In car mode, he can travel up to 90 mph and has a range of 1000 miles.
>Weaknesses: Hub Cap is physically among the weakest of the Autobots. Even low-speed crashes can result in severe damage to his body.

Thread's at image limit so:
>Cartoony tail extender
>Two big "feathers" on 5mm pegs
>Replacement waist front armor
>Non-organic looking replacement feet
Basically the rest of the parts try to make her look more cartoony and less BW-organic without serious disassembly. It's like the only kit for Filch from Chinese sellers so it shouldn't be hard to find on ebay or whatever.
>>11802117
I did want the bird mode parts only but it's in a bundle. I'm warming up to the new head though after seeing it in-hand and comparing with Hasbro's.
>>
>>11802660
ahh thanks, I'm glad people still do stuff like this from time to time.
I'm actually surprised the face seems to have a nice more G1esque face rather than the one the actual toy gave us, which fits that often-horrendous-looking show that tried so hard to ape Animated without understanding it
>>
>>11802660
>>11802668
oh that's unfortunate, the new tail fits UNDER the existing tail. but still, better than nothing. And it looks like the original 3d printed design also replaces part of her chest? I'm confused about how the head works since the eyes seem hollow, does it clip on? and if so, can she still transform? hm.
I feel bad about how chineebs just steal these 3d printed designs and sell them, but I don't know how else I'm supposed to get them without a printer, and in the right color at that.
>>
>>11802668
It's the missing nose. TF Prime and RID's designers weren't that into the producer's request to omit the noses, so they compensated by deliberately extending the helmet arch down to fill up where the noses would be and don't all look like Voldemort.
Legacy TFP and Strongarm skipped that and just gave them noses. I don't like it but it helps them blend better with the G1 characters I guess.
Whoever did Filch's head though, didn't do either so you end up with a freaky Voldemort-face.

No, that's a new crotchplate, from the looks of it. Her chest can't be altered because her bird head has to slot into it.
