[THE DEVIL YOU DON'T]
>The Marines and their illustrious leader would be greeted to a spectacle of a scene. The undead that guarded the main foyer were little more than macabre scraps, more viciously torn apart than when they were first risen from the dead. Unbeknownst to the marines or their illustrious leader, a greater horror than these mindless monsters had been unleashed upon the manor.
>From the mansion’s deep gloomy shadows it counted the squad's strength, weapons, numbers, barely able to contain it's urge to let loose and strike.

>Zombies? Again? Once more with feeling then, the petty officer leading this small outfit belting out a curt order.
(117) We have infected, Marines. Masks on.
>Wordlessly and quickly enough, the troopers complied, MOPPing up in short order with HAZMAT gear. Now properly protected, the troops were quick to dispatch whatever undead that were in their sights at the entrance of the manor.
>The team was composed of course by the big green SPARTAN himself, an M90A shotgun being put to good use to eliminate a couple zombies. If whatever stalker was eyeing him had good enough eyesight, they would likewise see he carried a number of grenades on his belt and a more exotic Type-33 Fuel Rod Cannon on his back, the golden weapon gleaming even in the dark of night.
>As for the Marines, there were three of them accompanying the Navy veteran. All were of course armed with a mix of weapons ranging from another M90A shotgun, a Battle Rifle, and an M739 SAW. Again, their secondaries composed of a couple M6G2 magnum pistols to one man using an M7 PDW. And of course, various equipment including frag grenades on their persons.

>Examining one of the more intact corpses revealed it to be the partial remains of a mottle-skinned vagabond now parted of his head, dressed in dilapidated fatigues patterned to resemble the topography of a temperate area, reinforced with various pieces of leather and steel scrap. Next to his deteriorated arms laid an antique-looking baseball bat, cracked and weathered by a long history of travel.

>Just as the SPARTAN had an "off" feeling, he saw movement in the dark, enhanced eyesight making out a glowing pair of blue eyes. And a weapon peeking out, their dull firing indicating a suppressed or pneumatic firearm of some sort. Worse still the rounds impacted Marine number Three, the SAW gunner! He fell with a cry as he dropped his hefty gun to the ground, clutching at the needles that had struck and embedded themselves into his thoracic cavity. Even with his armor, the damn things were able to penetrate him like a Brute Spiker! His BIOS immediately went from green to yellow and worse still, a warning indicated he had been poisoned by the noxious projectiles.
(MRN #1) Ambush!
>Even if his eyes weren't as good as the Chief's, the corporal opened up with his Battle Rifle in the general direction of the attacker. The SPARTAN likewise stepped protectively in front of the troopers and fired more accurate rounds from his scattergun, a couple 8-gauge buckshot rounds flying towards the assailant as Marine Two slung his own shotgun over his back to grab and drag the wounded trooper out of the killzone that was the foyer.
>Once in a safe(ish) enough place outside of the manor, Marine Two used one of his medkits to begin treating the wounded man. Among them being a general antidote for neurotoxins, the spikes being left inside of him for now lest he risk bleedout with their removal at this stage.

>...Now, a mansion does sound like a sound place for her to set up shop, if inspection meets her satisfaction...though, whatever strange reason those things have been there certainly do put a damper on any future evaluation, aha....

>From what the Chief could observe of his mysterious foe, they looked ghoulish as the zombies they had not too long ago killed. But unlike those simple shamblers, this freak managed to avoid their rounds, the bastard soon counter-charging with murderous speed and opening fire on the relatively weaker Marine with the SPARTAN.
>The man swore under his gasmask, trying to desperately dodge venomous needles, only to...
0-3: Avoid them entirely!
4-6: Take a couple grazing rounds, his armor keeping him safe but still stunned for a few moments from the hits!
7-9: Suffer direct hits to his chest like Three earlier, the man screaming in agony as he was nailed and poisoned!
Numbers: Headshot for an insta-kill. Ouch...
>The Chief meanwhile was internally surprised at being identified by his number. Not an easy task, which almost begged who or what he was even fighting as he prepared to meet the thing's charge.
>Of which thanks to Spartan Time, the skeletal spook appeared to be moving in slow motion, the adrenaline-fueled commando racking the slide of his combat shotgun as he assessed his foe's next moves. With how he was closing distance with him and pulling for something behind them, the Chief suspected a melee weapon. Thus the SPARTAN took a couple deft steps to the side at the last moment as he expended the last two shells in his shotgun at near point-blank range against his target!
>MEANWHILE with the other pair of troopers, Two had by now treated Three of the worst of his injuries, the man stabilized for the moment as the Marine overheard the sounds of combat not far from his current position outside of the mansion. Nothing he could do for now though, given his spot and duties...

>The shotgun barks and the figure is struck with the force of a heavyweight punch, not once, but twice. It staggers but the synth suit armor seems to hold, preventing any pellets from puncturing. Behind the mask however, runes light up, letting the assassin know that its body has suffered several internal lacerations and broken bones. The myriad of psychotics, stims and adrenaline boosters running through its veins keep it on the offensive. It too sees its prey in slow motion.
>It rallies itself to deliver a downward slash with its bladed gauntlet. It aims to destroy your shotgun 117.
>(Odds) A miss.
>(Evens) your weapon is slapped free from your hands to clatter to the floor.
>(Dubs or higher) Its neatly sliced into pieces by monomolecular blades.

>Two shots landed, the 0000 buckshot pellets sparking as they impacted the thing's armor and flesh(?), the latter suggesting some kind of cyborg or android that the commando was dealing with. Whatever the exact case may be the assassin was still standing despite getting blasted twice at close range! Worse still, Marine One had been hit a couple times by those damnable Spiker-esque needles, the poor leatherneck falling to the ground with a groan as the poison began to take effect in rapid order, his BIOS turning yellow and slowly fading to orange.
>Frowning under his helmet, the Master Chief narrowly dodged their expected melee counterattack, the weapon blurring unerringly close to the big UNSC cyborg as Cortana chimed in his ear.
>"Chief, you really don't want to get hit with that thing. A brief analysis tells me its monomolecular like your own knife. Perhaps even more advanced at that."
>'Noted.'
>Acting fast still, the petty officer rather than reload his spent shotgun would instead fall back a bit and grab Marine Three's previously dropped M739. Hefting the SAW, he took aim and unloaded upon his agile foe with deadly accuracy as he backpedaled. More than a dozen 7.62 mm FMJ rounds erupted from the rapid fire weapon, the Chief growling over the din.
(117) You're going down.
>Not alone either, Marine Two having finished with his business with Three, sought to reengage with the monstrous assassin. Having grabbed his own shotgun off of his back, the man peeked around the entrance and into the increasingly ruined foyer. With a scowl on his face he took aim at the quick moving skeleton attacker.
(MRN #2) Eat this you sonofabitch!
>Three rapid fire shotgun blasts were shot out from the shouting trooper's scattergun to add on top of the SPARTAN's own gunfire!

>The weight of fire against it was growing. Atleast three hard rounds puncturing a weak point in its armor, digging deep into the agent's abdomen and a volley of buckshot striking its arm. Runes lit up once more in response.
>[Body Glove Compromised.]
>[Major Wounds Detected]
>The was no time to care! Assassin began to maneuver. Even so, the frenzon and adrenaline in its body compels it to attack!
>It side steps and somersaults, putting the marine between himself and the Spartan. The assassins knows its target will hesitate before chancing friendly fire. Or better yet, it might do something stupid to protect an ally.
Easy.
>*Thunk Thunk Thunk*
>Three neurotoxic laced needles were now heading straight for the marine with deadly accuracy.

>Even if not all rounds landed, the SPARTAN and the Marine were wearing their aggressor down with every shot, bit by bit. But of course, they were still more than in the game as was evidenced by the fact that the machine man's deft maneuvering. Their new position made engaging them... tricky, especially when they saw fit to attack the shotgun-armed trooper!
(MRN #2) Shit!
>Diving out of the way, the leatherneck...
0-2: Managed to avoid getting poked by the needles!
3-4: Taking *a* needle to his leg at a glancing angle, slowing the man's retreat behind cover for a moment but otherwise unharmed.
5-9: Was too slow, a couple needles hitting him in the leg with a scream and poison now coursing through him!
>The laconic sailor wouldn't justify them with a response beyond more gunfire from his SAW. Especially now that the Second Marine was trying to move back into cover behind the entrance wall. Another dozen strong burst of bullets blasted forth from the machinegun to try and hose the Chief's adept foe, the petty officer keeping his distance for now as he pressed towards them.

>The gambit had only partially paid off it seemed. The marine was out of action but the Spartan was now guns free.
Emperor preserve me..
>Runes lit up in rapid succession with each impact. Although many rounds deformed and deflected off the armor or were dodged altogether, enough were drilling into the assassins body and ruining the origins within.
Forward! Forward! The target is so close!
>The howling creature presses on attempting to close the gap with the spartan despite the blistering fire.
>[0-1] Not a chance he was going to make. A bullet drills through the lense of the death's head mask, ending the charge.
>[2-9] He closes the gap, tackling the spartan, but not before effectively losing all function to an arm due to the blistering gun fire. They are now locked in close range melee combat! [Call it a good old fashioned 4+ invuln save]

>Chin up skeleton man, you had downed all three muhreens leaving you with your prime target. Said target wasn't pleased either with the harm that had been inflicted on the troopers for that matter, especially since poor number One was at death's door, his BIOS reading as RED by now as he lay dying on the floor in the foyer.
>All the more reason the Chief needed to finish this fight and fast. And it seemed as if his foe agreed, the bastard charging him as he kept firing away! The impact of his rounds seemingly did little if anything to halt said assault, the MCPO preparing for some CQC as he dropped his SAW and unsheathed his combat knife! He would...
Evens: Roll and go with the tackle attempt, the man left standing as he used his knife to stab into the abdomen of his assailant!
Odds: Get staggered, the half-ton commando put on the defensive as his shields flared with a loss of charge!

>It began to speak behind the mask, a vox distorted voice labored under the intense effects of a dozen nameless exotic compounds flooding its senses.
You are finished Spartan! If the imperium will do nothing to stop the UNSC's expansionism.. then the officio assassinorum will.
>The assassin lifts a clawed hand high, its opposite arm hanging limp and useless at his side. It is the only moment the Eversor has stood still, but even in its frenzied state it knows the significance of the moment.
Argh!
>The black clad figure charges once more, slashing and stabbing in a berserker’s frenzy. All finesse is gone, drowned beneath a flood of chemically induced rage.

>The Chief was hardly winded just yet, but he was caught off guard by the sheer fury of his opponent. Bastard rivaled a Brute in a rage as they spat blood libel at him through their vocoded voice. And speaking of surprises, the mention of an "Imperium" finally clued him in on who or what he was facing, the petty officer apparently on their hitlist with this assassin of theirs!
>"Well, aren't you just popular with them?"
>The SPARTAN merely grunted at Cortana's internal quip, eyes focused on his still standing albeit wounded foe. All too soon they charged the UNSC cyborg yet again with murderous intent in a flurry of violent motion. If nothing else, it would in a way make the more composed commando's job easier but he would hardly underestimate his opponent just yet.
>Rather than go for anything subtle or continue with CQC the MCPO merely grabbed his Fuel Rod Cannon off of his back. Taking aim while backpedaling again to put *some* distance between himself and the crazed madman, he unleashed a couple explosive and radioactive projectiles at danger close!

>The Eversor twisted to leap aside but too late. How could he have been so careless, forgetting the cannon? Bright green beams tore across the space between them, searing the air and scorching white hot after images in the assassins retinas.
Gaahh!
>The assassin fell to the ground, mortally wounded. One leg truncated into a bloody stump while the other was scorched beyond recognition. Still the death's head mask leered at the spartan, an accusatory finger blade pointing at him.

>Good.
>That silently unsaid the Chief's two-shot salvo was on target, verdant gobs of superheated and explosive projectiles nailing his would-be assassin with potent fury! Still hefting his Type-33 the petty officer looked the fatally wounded thing over, his attacker still alive enough to spit one last rebuke at him. And with it, ominous beeping...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m7hPlL-v4A
>The Chief needn't be told twice by the Marine at the door, the SPARTAN recognizing a fail-deadly bomb when he saw and heard one.
>With that he booked it back to the entrance. The First Marine inside had already died unfortunately as a result of the neurotoxin to his person, and thus their body was left behind. The other two however could still possibly be saved, Two and Three being hastily grabbed by the retreating MCPO as he sought to get as far away from the cackling and likely soon to explode assassin! Even weighed down as he was by two fully kitted out troopers, he was able to cover dozens of meters a second!
