Many foreigners are turned off by how overcrowded Java is - and how primitive/rural/poorly developed the other islands are. Java's population density is higher than the shittiest, poorest, most crowded state in India (Bihar).

I've considered visiting Sumatra multiple times, but the vast distances and shitty transport infrastructure make it a serious ordeal to travel around the island starting at Belawan or Dumai ferry port. Last trip I decided to stay in peninsular Malaysia, which is pricier for a budget traveler, but far more orderly and well-developed. Very easy and cheap to get around Malaysia.

Personally I've decided to visit India before visiting Indonesia, although hotels in Sumatra start at far lower rates than they do in much of India.

>>2834644
It's stupidly cheap to live in, it's just overwhelmingly muslim so that means most gooners can't get easy strange. Thus it's never going to be talked about here.

I’ve traveled around Sumatra a couple of times CC and had no issues getting around whatsoever. Sounds like a you problem.

To be real, Indonesia is great but the main cities are just your run of the mill super business export based cities for cheap labor. The culture is literally "the europeans made it up 2-300 years ago" and it shows to this day. Jakarta is probably the one of the few places anyone here will go to outside drunk aussies going to Bali.

No one here is realistically goning outside East Java island. With that said, you might as well go to Malaysia. The only real thing Indonesia has is that it's a cheaper version of SEA if you're willing to forgo hookers.
>>
>>2834644
I go there often. I love it! especially the food.
Some parts of Indonesia are actually mostly Christian, such as Medan.
There are actually twice as many Christians in Indonesia than in neighboring Australia.
And you can smoke everywhere. Food courts in shopping malls have indoor smoking sections. Even McDonald's has ashtrays, with the McDonald's logo on them. I've been meaning to steal one.
Average meal price is like $1 US, and it will regularly be the greatest thing you've ever tasted. Over and over this happens.
Just go!

I was in a city in Sulawesi recently. Absolutely zero sidewalks or street lighting and lots of open sewers. I made the mistake of looking up at the night sky for just maybe 2 seconds, forgetting where I was, I fell into a sewer, slammed my chin into the concrete and ripped my pants at the knees. Fucking piece of shit shit hole. The food is only marginally better than Philippines.
It's like saying "hey! How come nobody goes to Bangladesh!?"
Reasons.

What the fuck were you doing there? The shape of the island looks kino. Is there any major diffrences between parts of it? Do people just jungle bunny around everywhere without giving a fuck?
>>
>>2834649
>it's just overwhelmingly muslim so that means most gooners can't get easy strange

In fact it is easier and cheaper to get pussy in indonesia as a muslim man, than anywhere else in SEA. The sex industry in indonesia is pervasive and everywhere, and is much more fucked up and 'sex slavery' (debt slavery) style than other places.

There is islamic whoring, where you get a temporary wife (for a couple hours, then divorce her). Or straight up sex slavery where you spend a pitiful sum to gain raw pussy access to run through women of all ages.

Rural indonesia is full of families who sell their daughters into sex slavery to buy something they think they need, or because of a crisis. It's similar to thailand about 30 years ago. The market for rural sex slaves is only growing as indonesia becomes more urbanized, and because their culture is so backwards and retarded partially due to islam, the situation is not dealt with.

>>2834694
>There are actually twice as many Christians in Indonesia

Just like most africans claiming to be christian, they aren't actually christians. They have all sorts of local bullshit they do alongside "christianity". It's a larp. Feel free to go to one of their sunday services and see the type of retarded shit going on if you don't believe me. The number of actual practiciing christians in the world is vanishingly small compared to the numbers claimed.

>forgo hookers.
indonesians are coomers, and have a huge cooming industry for themselves, and for indians coming over from singapore

its simply a bit less 'overt' than other places, for example if you have a maid, you can ask her to bring you a girl, she will know what you mean and will bring you a girl later or the next day, dressed like a maid but ready to bang

every muslim society is fueled by secretive sex trafficking, indonesia is no different
>>
There's even a '''''''holy mountain'''''''' in Indonesia where couples go up to wife swap.

>Legend has it that in the 16th Century, Prince Pangeran Samodro had an affair with his step-mother Nyai Ontrowulan. They ran off to Mount Kemukus and committed incest. However, they were caught in the act by soldiers and local villagers, who killed the couple and buried them in one hole.

>The prince is now honoured with a shrine in the same place. It is a common belief that if two strangers have sex at the spot and finish the incomplete act of the honoured couple, blessings and a good fortune would be granted from Ontrowulan herself.

>During the Pon Festival, an auspicious day on the Javanese calendar, pilgrims flock in large numbers to perform the ritual. First, prayers and offerings are made at the graves of the royal couple. Then, pilgrims bathe in the sacred waters of the hill. Every pilgrim must find a stranger and have sex with them on the hill and exchange contact details. The couple must then meet and have sex after every 35 days for seven times in total.
I mean, blessings from Ontrowulan isn't something to be sniffed.

No wonder Medan is such a crime-ridden shithole, reputedly the least safe city in all of Southeast Asia. Christcucks and their forgiveness of sins bullshit, makes them think they can do whatever they want and it's all right as long as they repent.

As I understand it, Jakarta is an absolute hidden gem in terms of purely sex with women instead of the bullshit in the Philippines.

Indonesia is an interesting place. I love the country, the people are super nice. They're curious of foreigners and usually very friendly. If you're white, you'll still be a god there. I've never had as much success on Tinder as I did in Indonesia. Had loophole sex with a few virgins there, kinda developed a muslim fetish out of it.

Honestly, it's less developed than places like Malaysia and Thailand, plus it's dirty as fuck, but also so easy to make friends there and have a good time as a tourist.
>>
>>2835615
I'm white and got 50+ matches overnight. One date I went on, she was very open about how she loves my white skin, light-color eyes, and cleft chin. We chatted until the restaurant closed. On the way out, she wondered out-loud "where should we go?" "Let's go back to my hotel". She was very passive, so be prepared to make 100% of the moves with little positive feedback.

Indonesia is really nice. Friendly people, great nature, cheap, lots areas with few tourists. Skip the cities.
Transportation is difficult or expensive and/or annoying to deal with beyond a few popular areas. Most people end up riding scooters/motorcycles. Better spend a few days riding scooters at home in order to not be overwhelmed driving them the first time in your holidays.
Almost every tourist is somewhere on the same kind of beaten path between Jakarta and Bali/Lombok.
I recommend to skip these places unless you have a specific interest in them.
Look up which animals, plants and landscapes are where to find, focus on what you want to see the most and explore these areas. Don't hop around, focus on one area at the time.

I did travel to Indonesia this summer. Did a conference in Bali. We stayed at this hotel that owns sizeable portion of private beach. Very nice place, good food. Being a work conference I was forced to socialize with other westerners, so it felt more like an all inclusive resort.

Traveled east to Flores after the conference. Labuan Bajo airport is >90% westerners. All the tiktok zoomers are doing boat trips to Komodo Island, Padar, etc. because apparently it became popular during covid. I was planning to travel east instead, to the inland areas that are less touristy. I had always planned to biketrip, so flew in with my road bike and biked to a town called Ruteng in the middle of the mountain in Flores. Flores is really pretty, 90% Christians, churches everywhere. The villages around are nice. But IMO Ruteng is still too big for my taste, but Indonesians called it small city. Being in the mountains it was not as oppressively humid as other places in Indonesia. Physically I got crushed by the mountains, the hills are unforgiving. I learned that they did have an actual bike race called Tour De Flores and it's all steep grade climbs throughout the island. The locals are very friendly and even random villagers surprisingly spoke decent (at least comprehensible) english. I showed my electric bike pump to the local kids and it blew their mind. I hiked to the top of this mountain, themed with Stations of the Cross for Good Friday. Pretty neat hike, although it was misty at the top so the view wasn't that nice. The locals said it will take a whole day but I did it in 2 hours.

Overall had a great experience. I checked on my less outdoorsy work conference friends, they went to Jakarta for partying and mongering and seemed like they had a good time as well; although they said that they got really bored because there was nothing to do in Jakarta before sunset, then the food, cafes, and mongering were good.

9/10 would highly recommend Flores.
>>
>>2845948
Any hunger for independence in Flores? Seems like it doesn't match the rest of Indonesia, and would be better off more aligned with Australia or something.
>>
>>2845957
Idk - I didn't have the chance to talk with locals beyond basic nicities and I don't know a lot about Indonesian politics. But I think they have more in common with Indonesia than Australia, in term of food, spices, etc, e.g., they still eat white rice. But because they're Christians they eat pork as well. They are more of a remnant of colonial Dutch Catholics than anything and Australians are not Dutch Catholics.

One thing I noticed though is that they had massive gasoline shortage throughout the island. Like a village will have only one paved road through it and there will be a traffic jam around gas station, apparently they have buying quotas. People who live nearby buy the gasoline and scalp it, they sell them in 2L water jugs at elevated prices. Like many provincial areas, they seem to be ignored and really behind the times. That can't be that nice.
>>

Half the trash they dump is stuff that was shipped over from your country to "recycle". It's your trash on their beaches.

You can't deny that Western countries talk a big talk about protecting the environment, but in reality they've shifted all the dirty business overseas to poorer countries (for greater profit).

The only people getting paid to "recycle" plastic waste are smugglers who illegally import it into Third World countries and dump it there.
>>
>>2851482
Its not dumped. The recycled trash is sold, Indonesians sort it and then it goes through recycling or burned for fuel in tofu villages. This has largely stopped from China because they recently pioneered a process to recycle without the need to sort/grade.

That’s just not true lmao. Prostitution is prevalent anywhere outside countries where a) men aren’t hated (Middle East/India) and b) feminist societies. In the rest of the world, prostitution is actually quite normal and a much safer way for a woman to make lot’s of money having sex with tame upperclass locals or sextourists to uplift her family than her brother joining a gang or her father breaking his back working manual labor on some farm.
>>

I'm in Medan, North Sumatra. The people here are like 60% Muslim, 35% Christian. There are Churches everywhere here, tonnes of Chinese, pork, booze etc.
There are also lots of nightclubs and 24hour KTV places, which are full of prostitutes. Mostly Chinese or other SE Asian girls. Drugs are also a big problem here.
So it's not all boring and pious Muslims. You can party here 24/7 if that's what you're into. Jakarta is much the same.
And obviously Bali is full of drunken Australians eating suckling pig. Bali is majority hindu. Also full of bars and nightclubs.
The major cities here are diverse like all other big cities.
Kratom is also legal here and you can get it delivered in under an hour.
I tried it in Bali. First couple of times it didn't do much so I doubled the dosage, and that was great! Kinda like adderall. I might try it again this trip

Diving junky here so have been all over Indo as the diving is the best in SE Asia, top 3:

1 - Raja Ampat, Sorong (Western Papua), super remote, papuans running around with red teeth
2 - Komodo, Flores, super touristy now but still has good diving and easy to get to
3 - Alor, East Nusa Tenggara, pain in the arse to get to as super remote, can see schooling hammerhead sharks.

Other places of note, Lembeh, Ambon and Banda Islands. Banda is super cool with old east india company forts as this was the centre of the spice trade.

The vast majority of prostitutes in Indonesia are native Indonesian Muslims.

The temporary marriage prostitution in Bogor Puncak for tourists and this wife swapping shit >>2834764 and Indonesians selling daughters into debt style sex slavery>>2834757 is all native Indonesian Muslim dominated.

Chinese KTVs are only in Chinese areas mostly servicing other Chinese.

Cracking down on those businesses could be lobbied and targetted by western lobbyists who try to frame that as being unfair on them, the WTO is EXTREMELY stacked against most of the world. One state tried to curtail it's obesity epidemic by cutting turkey tail imports and they lost in the WTO trial.

>illegally redirecting them from legitimate uses even
>any person with common sense "just knows" not to take plastic and dump it in the ocean
anon these companies sending trash abroad don't sort their goods and lie on their documentation. They will give you a shipment that they say is one rating that you can do, but is actually the hard to recycle or unrecyclable shit and you are stuck with bad plastic. You can't even send it to your own local facilities because they can't do it too.

I'm currently looking at the E33G (aka digital nomad) visa. I think I'm fitting money wise. Is it worth it? Or is it better to just arrive for 30 days and gett acclimatized before making a decision? I'm aware I can't apply for it while actually *in* Indonesia but a re-entry shouldn't be a problem.
>Is it an Islamic hellhole, or an untapped resource? There must be some amazing experiences lurking in the 10million islands
Well, it's a majority Islamic country but it's weird because it's Asian, it's a jungle, and they have a secular foundation ideology or something, so it left me with impression that it's less Islamic than Malaysia, despite being more Muslim population-wise. I don't see it that much of an issue - I have been to Qatar and definitely enjoyed it despite it being a sharia country. Indonesia is a far cry from the orderliness and cleanliness of Qatar, but they don't have sharia there either, except maybe in Aceh.
