Is it just a different generation or am I just oldschool and attract milfs?

I wish I had a tiny lizard bro hanging out behind the sofa. I had bathroom ants in my last place in Bangkok and kitchen ants here at my place in Saigon. Heading to Taipei next. I'm not as worried about bugs at my place there as I am about potential mold, which is rampant in Taiwan apartments

Saigon isn't the city for day trips. Take her to Cần Giờ, closest thing we've got. You can rent a boat together and paddle through the mangroves, have lunch in Cần Thạnh. Bring mosquito spray.
If she likes clubbing take her to Kasho.

theres nothing in saigon that you wont find elsewhere. after many visits i find it soulless, just like the major city i live in back home. go to the war museums and have unique personal experiences in the smaller cafes/restaurants that you stumble upon yourself that you didnt look up on tiktok or based on onlin reviews

I like it. It's cheap and has everything you'd need for the most part. One thing I can't stand, besides the normal stuff (scooters, heat, viet language), are the gyms here. I've been to 3 now and every single one is hot as fuck, even when they supposedly have air conditioning.

Yep! One I was drenched in sweat like I jumped in a pool. Couple others are just a bit warm, but fine, and not extremely hot like that unpleasant one.

Going to Vietnam for the first time soon, doing the standard motorcycle ride from Saigon to Hanoi. Anyone know how often im likely to be stopped by police? Assuming i dont ride like a retard and draw attention to myself. Ive got plenty of experience, but no license. I dont mind paying bribes, just dont want to have to deal with the bike being confiscated for a few days. Im aware there'll probably be checkpoints at Mui Ne and the Ha Giang Loop
>>
>>2843779
This is the worst year to be riding without a license. There's a new secretary general doing a major corruption crackdown, so police in most provinces will not take your bribe money. I think you're playing with fire.
International driver's licenses are valid here. I recommend you convert your local license for that class of vehicle to an international one.
>>
>>
>>2843779
There will 100% be checkpoints in Hà Giang but you only have to pay the bribe once. Guess they have a Zalo or WhatsApp group because other police will know about, and honor, the first bribe. I was there in September.
>>
>>
>>2844014
In Hà Giang it's a lot more than it should be. The guy I rented my bike from took care of it for me for 2 million, told me the police would ask me for 3 million. I kinda thought he was full of shit but his ratings online were good so I just went with it. Sure enough, the cops were exactly where he said they'd be and several other foreigners told me they had to pay 3 mil. Fuckin bastards, but I wouldn't let it stop you from doing it. It's worth it.

I like your attitude anon. If you really want to live here then please continue learning the language and culture. It requires sacrifice at first but will pay off in the end. Here's what I did:
1) Get a small town teaching job. Pick a town where the English level is so low that people prefer your baby talk Vietnamese. No this will not pay well. You're learning a poverty language. Be poor.
2) Commit to language immersion. Use English only at work. Politely disengage with anyone who speaks English to you. Never date or make friends with an English speaker. Your only contacts should be people who don't know the language at all. If someone says 'Don't worry I'll help you practice your Vietnamese,' and they just said that in English, they are already using you for free lessons. You have to be a real psychopath about it. Any English past hello should be a deal breaker.
3) Take a few phonics lessons from a local schoolteacher. Use the textbooks their grade 1 students use. De Rhode's alphabet is phonetic and crucial to learning the language. Get to the point where you can read sentences aloud with perfect pronunciation.
4) Use your phonics skills to passively learn vocabulary from street signs and menus. Text message friends/girls in full diacritics. Repeat thise conversations and situations verbally until you're almost as good at speaking and listening as reading and writing. This is the gameplay loop you'll spend most of your time on.
5) Once you achieve real person status in that small town, move to a big city for a better job. You'll be tempted to stay but you can't, trust me. People there were with you all through your baby years and will never really respect you. Always be cool to them but don't make any commitments, especially to girls.
Always keep trying no matter how difficult it is and how much people sneer and talk down to you. It will pay off. I'm now quite wealthy and happy in life due to toughing it out early on.

>De Rhode's alphabet is phonetic
Lol, what? Only in the north. Giọng miền Nam/Trung/Tây are definitely not phonetic (or at least, not any moreso than English is). I suppose most foreigners learn "standard" Northern Vietnamese but if you ended up having to live in the South you'd be in deep shit.
>>
>>2844386
Thanks bro but I'm probably a bit ahead of you here. I'm still shit face to face but I'm actually quite a good texter at this point. This language would be easy as shit if the sounds weren't so fucked up. Even though I understand how the sounds work, my ear hasn't learned to catch them (again, unless they slow down for me)
>>
>>
>>2844491
I'll def keep at it. I've been here a couple years but not fully immersed like we're talking about.

Why move back to the big city at this point btw? I'm not sure I understand why you're saying I shouldn't stay in the small town but even if we go with that, why the big cities and not another small town? The big modern globalized cities are what I'd prefer to distance myself from.

I did 4 days on the Hi Giang like a month ago, I had an international bike license but my mate did not. So we booked a tour which allowed us to pay an extra 50aud (30ish usd) and they wrote us a bribe note kek.
Also as an Australian apparently our international license isn't valid in Vietnam weirdly enough even though I have an actual motorbike license. Anyway in Hi Giang got pulled over 3 times in a span of 20 minutes, then didn't get pulled over until the last day (back in Hi Giang) You can ride a 50cc but it would be way too slow for your journey

Why do you need to plan? Figure out where you're going next the night before you leave your current location. If hotels are plentiful enough you don't even need to make an advance reservation. Sometimes you show up at the bus terminal and pick a bus to a place you haven't heard of before, but that looks cool on the map. Freedom is the whole point of travel, not imprisoning yourself with a to-do list itinerary like you were back at work.

Vietnam Military History Museum is great if you are interested in the long military history, it starts ~200BC and advances through time as you follow the displays. Also funny as fuck if you go on a week day as village kids are bussed in to learn the history and treat any white like a celebrity.
Temple of Literature is another must see if you like history, really chill vibes in the middle of the city.
The weekend night market on Ta Hien Street is worth a look if you want to do touristy / drunken things.
North side of Ho Tay lake is fully westernized trash, avoid.
Walking across Cau Long Bien bridge was terrifying as a lane was closed pushing 2 way traffic into a single lane but I'm glad I did it, you can also take stairs down to the farming island in the middle of the city.
I loved just walking around Yen Hoa district, no tourists and friendly locals.
Have fun anon, I only just got back from Hanoi and Saigon and I'm doing Hanoi again soon.

Yeah that's all that was happening but it gets fucking annoying being treated like a zoo exhibit within five years max. I used to love it when people came up and wanted to talk. Now I know exactly how every conversation will go. It's like Groundhog Day. I've tried everything to make a real human connection with that type of local, but they will never see you as a person.
I'm not saying I don't like the Vietnamese, but their worst specimens are weirdly attracted to us and there's no way to deal with them that doesn't make you look like a cunt. Now I just avoid public places like I did back home.

Over head press? I just do a lot of reps with a barbell and some 10lbs, maybe 25lbs on each side when things are Fappening, or I'm lit up. High reps are underrated, but then again, I don't talk to anyone about bodybuilding so I don't know the current hive-mind consensus.
I squat 225lbs and don't go higher because my rectum and intestines are weak and I fear fistulizing them. I said fuck it the other day and went up to 275lbs but now I can feel discomfort near my tail bone. My flesh mights fistulized a bit.

Any recommendations for Chinese restaurants, Chinese bars, Chinese clubs, etc in Hanoi and HCMC? I'm visiting Hanoi and HCMC for the next two weeks, speak intermediate Mandarin, and like visiting Chinese communities outside of China. I don't know why, my personal autism. The problem is the keycards that control room power. Sometimes the fridge is on a separate power supply that runs uninterrupted when you're away, but I've stayed in many places where pulling the keycard shuts off the fridge, making it useless for keeping anything cool when you're out all day.

>Is English widely spoken?
Basic English is widely spoken in upper class areas of major cities and anywhere foreigners come to spend money.
>How much Vietnamese do I need to know if I want to meet quality women here?
The awkward thing about Vietnamese is the learning curve is steepest at the beginner level. If you look up some basic phrases without knowing how to read the alphabet VERY ACCURATELY then what you are speaking is not Vietnamese, just nonsense. It isn't like a European language where you can hack through it in a foreign accent and get your point across while sounding weird. Most won't understand you at all because their pronunciation scheme is very delicate. All the phonemes are stacked on a single syllable.
For example mận means plum. If you read that from a phrasebook like the English word "man" then you're getting the 'm' and 'n' right, but the vowel (â) and the tone (dot thing) are completely wrong. That means you're only saying 50% of the word's phonetic components, which is not enough to understand it. Now let's say you're good enough with languages to pronounce it almost correctly, "mẫn." Whoops, now you're just saying someone's name. So until you've had a lot of practice people usually just assume you're saying English words they don't understand.
If the fruit seller does understand you, that's because he's been selling to foreigners so long that he's added their bad Vietnamese to his English vocabulary. You're better off just saying 'plum' which is easier for him to understand.
I still strongly encourage you to practice through trial and error. Post questions ITT.
>>2853703
You'd have been right ten years ago but now girls think it's cringe.

There's no eye catching because the girls don't stand outside. You go in there and ask the usher guy for "female employees to pour beer for us." Use google translate and they'll laugh but they will send the girls. If they don't that just means it's a family establishment and you also need to laugh and go on to the next one.
I'm not the poon hero to recommend specific places but basically you need to get on a major road and drive until you don't see any more white people, then stop at the first karaoke place you see. Can drivers can probably also recommend places but it isn't a hard thing to find. It's perfectly legal and you are expected to keep your hands off the girls.

Many whites go to Asia to act like blacks do in white countries, bold and uninhibited with that big dick energy. Make eyes at every woman passing by and "ayo, excuse me bro" anyone they feel like, as if random strangers are obliged to engage you in conversation whenever you feel like it. In Asia it's generally considered rude to approach random strangers in a public setting and try to engage them in conversation. As always, if you have a symmetrical face, a good smile, and an easy laugh, you can get away with any faux pas as a foreigner. If you're uptight and scowling, well guess what, your SEA pussy paradise dreams are bound to fall as flat as your attempts at dating back home.

Whereas in all of the other countries I've been to they are friendly and I can have interesting conversations or make friends.

In the period 1954-1974 the north had centrally planned economy and the south did not. They have also been subject to the propaganda for a longer time and they had different political alignment in that period. I think it leaves a deep footprint in the culture and the society, doesn't it? In Ukraine for example, the west is different than the rest of the country, because they had 20 years less of communism, so why would it be different in Vietnam?

Thoughts on this for someone who's never been to SEA? Btw the time frame isn't exact, could cut or extend by a bit. Also Taipei is thrown in just to make the flight home slightly more bearable. Thought of throwing in Manila right before HCMC as well, but it might be too much and I realized it's not actually a convenient halfway point anyway.
If curious, I'm interested in site seeing cool things in the day, partying at night, and possibly getting dates and laid.

Focus on Da Nang/Hoi An/Central Vietnam. That's the most Filipino experience we have here. HCMC is not fun at all right now. Don't say I didn't warn you. Some anons ITT recommend Hanoi but I haven't been there myself.

I’m going in a couple days. Where can I find actual nitrous? All info online says it’s banned but there are somehow still balloon bars in Saigon? Are they real in Bui Vien? Can’t get a straight answer. I’m going to Saigon, Hanoi, and Da Nang (hah, nang) btw

I like that Khmers never bothered me about anything unlike Vietnamese. Viet can be very pushy and scamy although I have to say I like most Viet people. Maybe once or twice I had a taxi driver off me a cab but no thank you was always the end of conversation. Meanwhile these Viet mfs would just not let it go.

I said I've never been to Hanoi. Might be nice. I'm visiting myself this spring. As for HCMC I've been living here for 10 years and only COVID was worse for tourists than it is right now.
>decade high inflation, no longer a cheap city by SEA standards
>traffic police more serious, bribes higher and more difficult to discuss
>no more balloons, other drugs are way underground now too, cant just show up and start partying like before
also still has the same problems as before
>polluted, crowded, bad traffic
>no beach if that's your thing
>salty locals
Saigon is a working town, not a tourist town.

Please tell me a neighborhood of Hanoi to stay in this spring on my way to Sapa. I want to eat, drink, and score some bud, but all that stuff has to be walking distance from the hotel (wife is pregnant).
Convenience is the issue, not cost. Where's the red light district? Also I heard there's a curfew there. Is that for real or is it one of those laws that isn't enforced in tourist areas?

>All the Vietnam war stuff is there
Enjoy the field trip and good luck with your book report

NTA but a tourist that spent a week there, Ta Hien (Beer Street) in the old quarter has every vice you could desire.
No curfew but if you cause enough trouble you get the army instead of cops, not a great idea.

Happened while I was there, 2 tourists started a fight with the staff of a bar, 10 minutes later a small truck turns up and a dozen guys in green uniforms get out.
The locals left instantly, either retreating into their business or quickly walking away, bar owner pointed at the tourists that started shit and they were carried into the back of the truck.
Just because you haven't see it doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

>no longer a cheap city
Prices have gone up everywhere in Asia, anon. $15 is the new $10 for a budget room. $1.50 is the new $1 for a cheap meal. Hopefully you also have 50% more spending power than pre-covid...if you don't, well, you done fugged up and got left behind by rising global affluence.

I've heard others say the exact opposite, that Cambodia is utter shit and full of aggressive scammers, while Vietnam offers better value.

It's careless stupid foreigners like you which incentivize blatant ripoffs in the first place. You buffalo.

"Mận" and "Man" are clearly different words, I'd practice pronouncing it with however the word "ậ" sounds in the language because I'm not a retard. Their words seem to be different in meanings as well, "mận" and "mẫn" are separate things unlike with Chinese so that makes things easier. For me it looks like an easy language to brute force, and if you cant spell it you can at least listen and read it well.

Anyone teaching English in Vietnam? I am gonna fly there in a few weeks and look for a job. I have a college degree and TEFL certificate. The only issue is I have a misdemeanor DUI and another misdemeanor failure to admit carrying a weapon. I was gonna get my background check while in the country from a local police department. Will this be an issue? I have taught English abroad before.

Im not gonna hurt you or anyone lol, im talking about being a very attractive man. Why dont you give some proper advice? Im gonna be in Vietnam soon, I am gonna bring my degree, a copy, and my TEFL certificate and a copy. I think that's all I'll need. I plan on getting everything else done through the school that needs a teacher. I might bring a background check, but I dont think I want to because it's just two non violent misdemeanor slap on the wrist bowl shit. In fact, I think the experiences themselves have built character. I have been a teacher before, would love to do so in Vietnam. Ok, I'll shut up now.

honestly i am low iq addicted retard from russia, never had a job, i still have ~50k$ savings which can give me life without job here for 3-4 years, i also have a vn gf cus i am hansdome, What would you do in my place to earn a stable income? I can't be an English teacher, I don't have an education or knowledge of English. I'm thinking about starting an OnlyFans account with my girlfriend, but I don't want to stoop to such filth. I'm desperate.
I can live quite comfortably on $500-1000, if anyone is interested in prices in Vietnam.

Back from 1 week in Da Nang and 1 week in HCM. Dam I miss Vietnam already, what a place. Just a heads up if you are planning to do the Hai Van Pass its kind of permanently fucked cause of resort development. Not my pic but yea its all deforrested and I can't imagine the view is going to improve once they start pouring concrete.
