Is Mexico really that dangerous? Thinking of going to Rocky Point soon. Any tips to avoid being killed/robbed etc.? Going with my family that's white.

On a side note, ive always wondered whats up here, while simultaneously not really acknowledging that it exists. now i know

>Rocky Point
Whoo boy, AZfag here.
>Any tips to avoid being killed/robbed etc.
The road to and from AZ to Rocky Point is basically a "don't touch whitey" road, rocky point is stupidly safe to the point every mexican knows to just call you a cab and direct you back to the beach. No one is going to fuck with you unless you start some serious fucking shit. Talking like going to buy actual large amounts of drugs or running your mouth larping as some guy who knows the cartels.

A ton of failed ventures to make it a tourist place, attempted fishing villages that realized the pacific had more fish, run off from the salton sea.
It doesn't get enough rain fall for any crops, the temps are worse than Arizona, and outside some random meteor craters nothing of interest. Last I recall there were attempts to make it into a solar farm but all the locals would just run and steal the panels

I thought it was full of cool marine life like whales and porpises and shit? I drove through Baja but I didnt explore the sea of Cortez side because the one place I stopped at was a town with a prison right next to it and it was just bad vibes I got a ticket driving the wrong way down a one way road lmao but I paid off the cop for like $15

>I thought it was full of cool marine life like whales and porpises and shit?
Wrong side of the Baja California Coast. The inner waterway has some crappy ass circulation and little rainfall flushing out the crap that drains into it.
The water isn't shitty like Salton Sea but the runoff still flows down into it. Rocky point is fine, it's just where people go that is cheaper than San Deigo to go to. English is fine everywhere.

it's critical habitat for the worlds smallest porpoise, the vaquita (which is also critically endangered), because of becoming by-catch to illegal fishing of Totoaba for some small-penis chinaman's superstitions
>>
>>2846912
Most of the year there is very little runoff flowing into the Sea of Cortez, so its waters are very clear and calm. It is also a marine wonderland.

The biosphere reserve is worth a visit. It has cool craters, lava flows and desert hikes. You pay a small fee to enter. I didn't encounter anyone else in the whole park when I visited.

Mexico is less dangerous than the American media portrays but it's still a backwards, lawless 3rd world country.
Peñasco is safe but parts of rural Sonora are very dangerous.
Mexico has places that are fine at all times, fine during the day, and unsafe at all times. The latter are actually pretty rare and confined to pockets of extreme destitution.
The bottom line is don't travel at night and be aware of your surroundings. If you use an ATM for example, try to see if you're being followed. It's a sketchy but enjoyable country.
>>2846846
It's underrated but become kinda touristy.
It's weird that there's east facing beaches a couple hours from San Diego or a coastline an hour from Tucson but it's there.
This area is where the Colorado River historical ended, it's very arid, very sandy, the water is calm and turquoise and the tides are extreme they have like 20 foot tides there.

The danger is most of Mexico has nothing to do with destitution, but rather to do with feuds between rival drug cartel factions that may escalate into a full-blown gun battle at any moment. As a casual visitor, you can notice cues that indicate the level of tension the people are living under, but nobody's gonna tell you what has been going on, so you really don't know just how dangerous it is at the moment. If you show up as a solo male looking to poke around the hill country, you will get a lot of hard looks from the local cartel operatives. But they will only make a move if the boss tells them to.
Police are very corrupt and should not be trusted whatsoever. I'd sooner trust a random cow herder with my wallet full of cash than I'd trust a goddamn Mexican cop. All the same, you should be friendly with them and not show fear/annoyance.
>extreme tides
Yeah, be very careful when driving or camping on the beach at low tide. If you get stuck in quicksand in a remote area, you might be SOL.

Taxis are plentiful in Mexican cities, and intercity buses while not cheap are modern and reasonably fast. I'd say Mexican cities are much safer from a street crime perspective than most of Central and South America. You don't see drug addicts and homeless beggars everywhere like you do in Colombia. Mexican youth are not given to lawless insolent behaviors like snatch theft either; it's the 20-40 year old males in cartel-dominated neighborhoods that are the real danger. BTW the dangerous parts of Mexico are eerily quiet, because nobody goes outside unless they have to.

>I also enjoyed Puerto Vallarta
it is pretty nice, and safe, also has a super gay neighborhood if you're into that
>>2848212
Tourist towns are very safe, cartels are invested in them and protect them and keep trouble down.
The only cartel people you're going to see are probably going to be drug dealers.
Most posters that tell you to worry are talking about the northern cities by the border.
I go to very poor areas, but no crime.

mexicans make the best criminals. They literally know everything to know about crime. And if you ask for advice they might tell you some solid stuff. Unlike almost everyone else that gets all afraid like you are wiretapping them or some shit. That being said generally they wont attack someone unless there is a solid profit or explanation. Im generally afraid of black areas, because there is no sense in the violence. Mexicans make sense. They love white people generally, make them laugh and call them senor and you are their best friend. They are racist against eachother, Against themselves. Can you imagine?

Make sure to get a credit card that has no international fees.
Eat a lot of street tacos with Guacamole (ask for it if they don't include it).
If you like seafood please try to get a Shrimp cocktail. Mexican Seafood is incredibly underrated.
Plaza de los Arcángeles and Chapultepec Castle are great places to see.
Pyramid of the Sun, as always, is a must

I love seafood and shrimp is even my favorite kind of meat, but I don't do raw/chilled dishes so I really wouldn't have a desire to try a shrimp cocktail. Maybe it'd be a good opportunity to try it, but if you wanna hit me with your more general CDMX seafood reccs for cooked/hot dishes I am very interested
Re: the Pyramid of the sun, Mesoamerican archeology is the entire reason I'm going, my list for stuff to visit currently is
>Templo Mayor site and museum, the Calmecac/Tzompantli/Quetzalcoatl underground portion
>Tlatelolco's archeological zone
>The Museo Nacional
>Teotihuacan, the site and its museum's
>Texcotzinco
>Chimalhuacan's palace and site museum
>Xochimilco
>Chapultepec, both the archeological remains and the castle museum
>Anahuacalli Museum
I'm also interested in going to Cholula and Ocotelulco,Tepeticpac, and Tizatlan's archeological remains and museums assuming it's possible to go from Mexico City to those places and back within a day and I wouldn't need to also stay the night in Puebla and Tlaxcala, but if so I'm open to doing that maybe too. Also curious how far away stuff in Hidalgo is, like Tula or the battle murals in Ixmiquilpan
Honestly I probably need more non-Archeology focused suggestions since the archeology stuff is what I'm already knowledgeable on, though I'm sure there's some stuff I don't know about, like the exact locations of early colonial buildings that have Aztec structures used as building blocks, or the non-Texcotzinco archeological remains around Texcoco, or the cathedrals and non-archeology focused museums that have feather mosaics like pic related

How many fucking times is this going to get asked? christ
>no, a gunfight will not suddenly break out. These happen in cities whose names you have never even heard of
>no, nobody wants the heat that comes from a tourist or god forbid an american dying
>don't drive at night, not because of cartels but because everybody is piss drunk and the roads are shit
>yes, some cops might try to get money out of you, 9 times out of 10 they are just sizing you up if you play dumb and refuse they will go away
>if you do end up getting jailed, again, 9 times out of 10 you can just pay someone
>don't be retarded and try to buy drugs outside tourist zones
>seriously, don't
>we have some homeless but they aren't fented out of their minds, at most they ask you for a cigarette or a few pesos. You can again just play dumb and refuse and they will go away
>you might get your shit stolen at hotels, so carry all your documents with you always
>never bring sex workers to where you are staying
>yes they will steal your shit
>use Uber whenever possible
>only use ATMs inside actual banks otherwise your shit will get cloned
>unless you are verifiably loaded, cartels don't give a shit about you
that's all i have to say to anyone coming here, like unless you're planning on going to a town in the middle of Zacatecas as long as you are not from LATAM you are basically untouchable, mostly. Like okay some tourists die here and there but they are retarded, you aren't anon.

Yeah, this is right. Been living in Mexico since March of this year.
Experienced some xenophobia, things like guards giving me a hard time before letting me into my condo or cops stopping me for papers. You'll get some occasional rudeness or nastiness.
But, generally, Mexicans are glad you are in Mexico if you aren't causing any trouble. The cartels mainly kill each other, and they do it frequently. They don't want to mess with the tourist cash cow. I haven't had any troubles with crime in Baja.

Last I checked the taxis from the airport were still a ripoff so do take an Uber for that but yea inside the city subway is fine, there's like 2 cities here with an actual subway so I was speaking generally. I haven't been to CDMX in years but i seem to recall the subway was bursting at the seams so just a heads up you might get squeezed a bit during rush hour.

wya, Ensenada? There's this like water park a few hours from the border that is supposed to be like super illegal to build in the US so people from SD go to it, forgot the name.

Mexico is actually really crazy I had no idea
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfkCxhS78G4
1) Everyone walking around is legit Mexican like in White Countries everyone is there but here its 99% Mexican
2) Everyone is ugly as fuck like its actually unreal have you ever seen a more ugly country? I have seen Columbia walkthrough and you see some pretty nice hotties once in awhile. Prostitutes with giant tits. Best you can hope for in Mexico is a really big ass in jeans.
3) Everyone wears JEANS like holy everything is dresses or jeans there
Those are my thoughts bye.

mexico is nice but you get what you pay for. stay at a nicer hotel with decent security, don't talk to any overly-friendly locals, don't go looking for drugs or hookers.
the cartel isn't fucking with americans usually, but if you get caught up in a bad situation(think: some sketchy fuckers following you at night, gangbangers showing up to a bar you're at) GTFO asap.

Mexico is dangerous, but so is everywhere. You take a few wrong turns in any major American city, you might get robbed by groids just because they're bored. In Europe, a woman might get randomly raped by nafris who will be found 'Not Guilty' by some libtard judge.

Xenophobia has gotten quite bad recently, just look at CDMX. Mexico is no longer a cheap destination anymore anyway, it's becoming very western and the peso is buying more dollars than ever before. Why the fuck would you want to live in that 3rd world shit hole where people hate you for being white is beyond me. It would stress me the fuck out. Mexicans are dirty and jeet like anyway. Let their dogs shit everywhere and never heard of a trashcan. Yeah sorry, im not going to let some brown smelly midget make me feel like shit when I visit their country. Hopefully pedo trump invades them next and kills them all.

If you are in a tiny town and you have some Spanish and don't fit the exact mold, like 20 something surfer (Ticla), or hippie backpacker (Maruata) expect to be met.
Nothing bad at all, just, if you stick out and the local cartel guy's boss comes around, the local needs to be able to answer, what is that person's story?
Like everyone says. Be street smart around pickpockets. If you buy $20 of weed, and smoke only $10 of it, DON'T FUCKING TRY TO SELL IT! If a bunch of hot girls come in a spot with a couple dudes, might be a good time to dip. You might get told straight up to fucking leave if the chicks like you.
Be respectful and honest and don't make yourself a target and enjoy a great place.

In recent years the cartels have basically made it a death sentence for anyone to touch tourists, because it's very bad for business.
A couple of years ago some burger tourists were driving around in an SUV with tinted windows in a border town and were mistaken for a rival cartel group. The sicarios ended up shooting them. What did the cartel leadership do? The responsible men were tied up and left on a highway for the police , along with a letter apologizing to the US and the families of the victims
