What does /trv/ use to squeeze the value out of what airlines and hotels already charge you?

I don't think anything can beat the Venture X in terms of overall benefits and paying for its own fee on the travel credit alone. If you spend $4000 in the first quarter you get $750/miles. The miles can be used for any travel purchase straight deducted from your statement, including ubers

The lounge access is pretty invaluable, though they just nerfed the free guest access starting yesterday

I use an AMEX Platinum, Gold, and BBP. Wife and I haven’t paid cash for a flight in years.

I use AAdvantage but it's not that great unless you focus mostly on the benefits of being able to use the the lobbies and benefits of long haul flights.

If you're in Asia, AirAsia has a good flight pass to buy gives you a lot of options for like 300 bucks. Points are basically meaningless for anything other than status which is far better than what points are worth these post covid days.

Here is a general summary of what is out there:

All travel credit cards are issuer (bank) + co-brand (either travel industry provider or the bank itself), and whether a card is good or not depends on both. Further, you must have a use for what you collect, if you collect what's not useful or you don't like, you're wasting time and opportunity cost.

CapitalOne is a shit issuer though. Fraud alert is too trigger happy, and priority pass lounges are by design 2nd rate and you are there to fill excess capacity. Their own lounges? Great... if you can find one

Isn't it tiresome to deal with the annual fees and bullshit credits Amex does on mid to high end cards? Of those personal Gold has good earning, as does BBP for non-bonus categories, Personal Plat aside from the bonus/cashout is horrible...

AA is the last bastion of the un-devalued miles of the big carriers in the US. No one should set foot on a shithole LCC like AirAsia unless that is the kind of place you like to be (in that case please stay in SEA with your kind and don't come back)

Platinum earning is great for me because I have to travel a decent bit for work so I’m constantly earning 5x on flights and frequently on hotels. The credits are a little annoying but I don’t have much difficultly bashing them out. The refresh made the card more valuable for me.

I just use a Schwab card to avoid international fees and call it a day.

I have CSR. Will get about $2500 of value out of the card cuz i was already using most of the new benefits for 2026.

Haven’t used The Edit yet tho. Anyone used it?

>Buy Amex
>Buy gold
>It's eligible for the bonus points
>Gold goes up
>Sell
>Free points + Fee covered
It's always a risk, but that was the easiest free value in a long while. Might do the same with another bank next time the world is bullish on something else
