It seemed to me like there were more Africans in 2014 than now but that may have to do with what parts of town I was running in. But there are definitely a lot of Indians and SEAsians now. Not like they’re totally overrunning the place but that plus overtourism has clearly upset a lot of Japanese people and it kills the vibe. I do talk to locals when I’m there and they all tell me they’re actively unhappy. Not surprising they elected that woman.

However, the good news is most flights to Japan from china have been cancelled, due to fake political bullshit. Which is going to reduce a significant amount of tourism and thin out the crowds. I would visit now, while you still can. I honestly recommend going to Japan in January, things are cheaper and less crowded. The weather was great as well. 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
