Can't stand From. It's a knee-deep college horror parody taken at face value. It's Kingdom Hospital for the scpwiki audience. It's Shyamalan's Village at home: there's no twist, although we pretend to have one planned... just wait two more seasons and you'll be rewarded! All these random creepy objects with bone-chilling metaphysics will turn out super-duper-meaningful, isn't your primal thrill of the unknown induced yet!?!

Holy mystery box (as in "full of holes")—it's like someone watched Lost and thought: "character drama not corny enough, too few mcguffins, questions are being answered too fast" and wrote From, otherwise known as "Deus ex machina: The asspull". Then the creators realized they had *nothing* of substance and tried to make up for it by adding detailed violence and other satirically over-the-top disgusting stuff. Hey, at least it works as a horror comedy, right? You can enjoy it lelz IRONICALLY, right? No. Just no. And constant swearing doesn't make a show feel "mature" or "modern" either. It makes a show feel desperate and teen-rebellious. A quasidrama manufactured in adolescent exploration of realer thematic "deep".

That's who I think the show was made for. Teenagers wanting to feel smart. It's penultimate undignified wiki-core. Whenever they reference a concept like "Schrödinger's cat" one half of me cringes while the remaining half expects them to wink at the camera to validate you for getting the reference (they actually do this in Rick and Morty, which is why Rick and Morty is the ultimate wikipediacore)

Anyway, those are my thoughts regarding the program so far. Looking forward to the upcoming season. On a side note, why does EVERY streaming show shoot dialogue like this now? Did the past generation forget to pass down the art of cinematography, just like they did with screenwriting, or is it Hideo Kojima behind the camera?

maybe I just have bad taste or maybe he's just really good in comparison but I actually like Boyd and he's about the only character that I don't find dumb and annoying. he just had a hard life.

He's one of the few characters that has a good actor which elevates the character a lot, but the bad writing is still there. I still have no clue what his character really is. I think he's supposed to be this cynical hard-ass that gets shit done, but then in the next scene his character just does the same thing as the other characters and just wonders about, confused. There's so much of this weird filler in the show where the characters just wander around the town, starting conversations with each other and they end up speaking nonsense.

I like this show.
It's not about answers, it's about mystery, it's about imagining what it's like to live in this comfy little bubble reality of horror and mystery. It's about how human emotions relationships respond to extreme mystery and horror.
But actually the show does annoy me sometimes. A lot of characters are stupid and poorly acted. Get rid of the whole annoying family the show centers around, except the little boy Ethan. I only really like Victor, Donna, and Jade. Randal and Elgin have potential.
