It makes me feel happy whenever I see it on. The world is so bright and colorful.

It was deliberately over the top, embarrassingly sincere, and not what people expected from the Wachowskis. I've been defending it since day one and I don't usually like their stuff. The climax is transcendent.

I think it was the culture at the time, everything at that time was getting edgy and miserable reboots that were supposed to be "realistic". Speed Racer went against the grain and delivered something bright, lighthearted and love for its roots. Keep in mind this was the same year as the Dark Knight which wasn't awful but was completely ashamed of being based off a comic book

Exactly. If a modern adaptation came out it would be packed with ironic absurdity and the characters making epic marvel quips to defuse any tension or emotion. But the Wachowski’s decided to aim right at the heart which made for a timeless piece of art. It helps that the art style is deliberately stylized to filter retards and keep them from fanboying it into dust.
