Spoilers btw
>Single crazy bird lady is a hard worker, but she's a disgusting slob with no social grace.
>Gets passed over for a promotion by the douchebag frat bro boss, despite working there for many years.
>Audience feels understandably sorry for her, despite the fact she's too stupid to realize that working like a dog for years with no social tact is not how you get promoted in the corporate world.
>So on and so, on, she and her douchebag boss survive a plane crash to a corporate meeting and are stranded on an island
>After some shenanigans, she decides to avoid being rescued so that she can stay on the island with douchebag boss, who she seems to both disdain and yet obsessively lust over.
>Douchebag's innocent, loving fiance, along with another innocent guy launch a search party and encounter the lady. Lady is jealous of the fiance, and ends up killing her and the other innocent guy off a cliff
>Moral high ground completely lost at this point, if it wasn't earlier by avoiding resuce.
>So on and so forth, the twist ends up being there's some huge unoccupied mansion that the lady knew about. The douchebag boss, who I'd hardly even call a douchebag at this point, is rightfully enraged at the lady for murdering his fiance and keeping him on the island, he stumbles on the house and tries to kill the lady.
>He fails, ends up killed by her.
>Lady ends up escaping the island to a hero's welcome back home, and a big corporate promotion.
The end.
So yeah, it ends with her basically saying something like, "no one will send help, you have to help yourself," which I guess entails being entirely psychopathic and hurting innocent people? It seemed like it was supposed to be a "yeah, you go girl!" kinda story, but when you end up more of an asshole than the mean-spirited boss you're supposed to hate, it kind of falls flat. At least the douchebag boss didn't kill anyone, and in fact saved the crazy lady from falling at one point.

>the twist ends up being there's some huge unoccupied mansion that the lady knew about.
Fucking what? Explain this. So was it implied she's been secretly living in the mansion during the times she's left her boss alone and she was full of shit about knowing how to survive? Was the mansion derelict and abandoned or was it a fully loaded vacation home belonging to a mutual acquaintance? I only ask because the whole mansion thing is apparently some big revelation in the movie. The rescue team and him finding his murdered fiancee would be enough to trigger him to attack her. So what was the point of there being a mansion?

Yes and no. The movie does portray her as being a legitimate survivalist with true survival skills. It sets that up early on with photos of her camping trips and obsession over the Survivor show. But the mansion was a modern, functional, fully stocked beach house, just unoccupied by what she presumed to be a "Wall Street bigshot" or something to that effect. She doesn't seem to spend most her time at the mansion, but she did secure provisions there, including a knife and food, so that does seem to also negate the whole point of being a survivalist, and yeah I cannot really understand the point of including it, unless the point was just to make you hate the woman even more.

>woman finds an actual island mansion but chooses to live like a dirty third worlder because she love/hates her boss?
Can't tell if insanely unbelievable because a woman is choosing a more difficult route that involves work and effort, or if actually incredibly realistically portraying the awful decision-making and reasoning of women. Either way, Raimi's had pic related living rent free in his head since MoM and decided to make an entire film just for her. What other directors besides Vince Gilligan are huge simps to actresses like this?

It's a take on le wimmen must be by themselves so they need a man who was really a good guy.
Because she's a woman, she is the only one who gets away with it. Cliche plot all over again.
I don't know how women who watch this and think it's a good thing. Obviously, it's "because he's a man, he's useless" scenario. Most movies are unrealistic anyway.

It's genuinely difficult to tell how much you're supposed to hate her, I can't gauge Raimi's authorial intent
Because if you think for one second the answer is "a lot" but maybe they're going for like a foid Patrick Bateman where girls watch and go "SHE DID LITERALLY NOTHING WRONG"

>No help is coming, so you better start saving yourself.
The point at the end was that you can't rely on others and have to make things happen for yourself. Her golfing at the end makes it really obvious. This is a woman that spent 7 years at the company holding out for a promotion that was promised to her, but when the time comes the new boss gives it to his golfing buddy that had only been there for 6 months. The golfing buddy was assertive and willing to step on people to get ahead (passing off her work as his own). She was a meek loser that let people belittle and bully her. She learned that it isn't good enough to be highly competent at what you do. You need to be cut throat. Literally in her case.

>becomes a villain and wins without any second thought that she might be a bad person
Yeah I read the plot summary and it turned me off ever watching it.
I know villain protagonists are the hot thing since Breaking Bad but man I am so sick of it.
I appreciate Dunk and Egg for how earnest the protagonist is after years of shitheads.

No, she is not, at all. She sucked. I pirated this movie and I still am owed a refund for wasting my time on this girl power fantasy tale.
They (Hollywood) did the same thing with that movie about a man trying to kill his dumb wife in a hot air balloon after a robbery gone bad or something.
It was a such a shit movie, great opportunity wasted.

that's the literal meaning yes, but the more metaphorical meaning is that you have to take power for yourself rather than beg for it
the crazy bird lady is an asshole too but that's what makes her win in the end, embracing her inner asshole to become the boss

I chose to interpret it as Raimi subverting the audience’s expectations of it being a movie about a girlboss smashing the patriarchy. She becomes way worse than the douchebag boss and she might’ve been worse from the beginning, she pretty much murdered her husband

This. He knew how to play the game and rub shoulders, she knew how to survive on the island. On the mainland he was the king, but here in the middle of nowhere she uses her knowledge and cunning to get the most out of the situation. Very basic structure, why OP sucks dick again?
