>>

Looking at the trailer closely, it looks like an AI upscale. I'm guessing hte originals are just lost time now. But it'll look better than what's out there.

No, it won't.

I love this movie, but all that missing footage...it's a hard pill to swallow

>Paranormal Prison
What a bad movie that was. Zero scares, just quick-cut jumpscare attempts that fail every single time. At least both of the girls were cute.
>>
>>219574670
Shame the director hasn't been able to make another movie ever since the internet found out she was a chud
>>219581405
It's nice this is streaming but I don't know why people are acting like it's lost media or something. It's never going to look better than the DVDs for the time being and it's been widely available for like $25 for the complete series for years.

It was okay. Probably rate it just above average like a 5.5/10. I expected better alien sex scenes. The Seed and Extraneous Matter did that part way better.

Pro-tip: you can't because 'pure' horror doesn't exist anymore except in the deep basement of the indies which almost none of you watch.

my perceptions might be a bit skewed because the last couple films i've seen were absolute dogshit, but i thought it was pretty alright. not bad or good, just alright
okish performances, some bad adr, not enough gore, and a plot that felt a bit incoherent or at least not all that thought out, fun ending; should've had the guts to let him win
and it reminded me of the video game hatred, a game i haven't thought about in over 10 years
surprised me when i learned that it took them 19 years to make this

But then we wouldn't get a sequel, which we'll get. Also, I liked the fact that the truth was told a few times throughout the movie. It's ALWAYS the government.

So far, Hell House LLC III Lake of Fire has been the worst in the series despite looking better, and with some better acting even, yet failing to set the atmosphere the previous two entries enjoyed. It watches almost like a practice run, something still being story-boarded live. When ghouls should float, they step, almost loafishly like any person fumbling for half-dry take-out in the middle of the night—not exactly horrifying. I will give the actors their flowers, but the best performance cannot save this directorial misstep. A little more effort into the practical effects would have turned this from "dinner theatre" to at the very least a passable flick. Suspension of disbelief can only go so far when veritable servants of Hell are scamping around in Airwalks and black pants.
>>
I just watched "Dybbuk Box The Story of Chris Chambers" (2019). And well, it was as cheap as it can get. It's a found footage mockumentary of a guy who orders a dybbuk box online, opens it, and then "paranormal activity" things happen. Only he and a girl appear in this film, he suspiciously looks like the writer, director, producer and camera man, she's probably the editor or production assistant. They never leave the apartment.

I watched another real documentary about dybbuk boxes, and apparently there was an online trend some years ago of people buying them and opening them. A "dybbuk box challenge". So apparently this film tried to quickly cash in on the trend.

Anyway, can't recommend, unless you want to make a very cheap horror flick yourself and want to see how it's done.
>>

>>219586574
>WTF is a Dybbuk box
>look it up
>The Dybbuk box, or Dibbuk box, is an antique wine-cabinet claimed to be haunted by a dybbuk, a concept from Jewish mythology
What, jews can't trick it like they do god with their sins?
>>
>>219586715
Ya know when it comes to Elvira I've never understood the moniker Mistress of the Dark.
Is she a mistress in the traditional sense of being a romantic partner or paramour of the Dark.
Or are we to infer it is the feminine version of master meaning she holds dominion over the Dark.
Maybe it's a little of both.
>>
>>219581489
Is that Diana and Hugh?
>>
>>219586844
No, it's not a wine box. A wine cabinet was the dybbuk box from the very first hoax that started this trend back in the day. But it can be any box, preferably one that can be locked. You're supposed to lock a dybbuk or dibbuk inside with a ritual (spelling varies depending whether it's jewish or polish jewish). A dybbuk is supposed to be a malevolent demon spirit that hovers between the world of the living and the world of the dead and attaches itself to a living host, tormenting him and never letting go. If you know how, you can perform a magic ritual to bind the dybbuk to some things like an amulet, a lock of hair, polish pennies, a piece of paper with a hebrew word written in blood etc. You then lock all of that stuff in the box and the dybbuk with it. Whoever then buys or trades the locked box, the evil spirit is his problem. The box shouldn't be opened, or the spirit is released. It also cannot be burned or destroyed, or the spirit is released.

There's a better / average horror film from 2012 called "The Possession" that deals with this and explains everything. No "found footage horror", actual sets, actors, blocking, framing, editing - it's a real movie.

I'm never good at Top X lists. I can usually do Top 5-10ish favorite movies of all-time. After that it gets extremely difficult. Just for horror, IDK after top 3:
>Halloween (1978)
>Subconscious Cruelty
>Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1956)
>>
>>219590966
You’re not supposed to think. Just post. Never even heard of the second movie.

>>219591186
Nobody on here has ever mentioned it except me. It's not a traditional movie, but has parts. The director is now a successful cinematographer in Hollywood. His other movie is probably the most filtering movie of all-time, Ascension (not horror). Interesting movie, but most find it boring as it's 90%+ just 3 women walking through an abandoned factory and talking.

>>
>>219566351
Some fears might be more universal, but there are other factors that could make you more susceptible to the kind of horror the film portrays beyond the fear of your own body not being under your control or only being able to watch helplessly as you slowly succumb to a deadly disease for which chances of recovery are slim to none, such as if you're religious and actually believe in the concept of demonic possession which William Peter Blatty did and of course Regan being a mere child who has all this horrific stuff happen to her and her mother can't do anything for her and struggles to accept her own powerlessness in the face of a force she does not fully comprehend. Most people even if they aren't parents feel bad whenever small children are put in harms way or in danger of dying/getting hurt, it's hardwired into us. Amazing film that's sadly hurt by its reputation as the scariest movie of all time which creates all these lofty expectations that it can't possibly meet for everyone. Or maybe it only ever could for a specific group of people at a specific point in time.

Why is marriage is a subgenre of horror for women?
>>
>>219595674
>>
>>219601344
Because females only marry when they see the wall (they usually see the wall in the rear view mirror) and being with one man for life is sad and scary for them. All females admit this but smart ones play the role of dutiful wife and mother instead of girlbossing or divorcing.

Just finished Evil Dead 1-2
What I really noticed was how tight the movies were. Time flew by with the great pacing. At the end of Evil Dead 2, Re7 took inspiration from that.
>>

You're right, not a second of The Evil Dead is wasted. I think it's basically the perfect modern horror movie template.
Also why it was such a hit, there's not many comparable films before 1981.

Welp. I watched Do Not Enter. I was alright. Monster design was effective in some parts, not so much in others. Also took a long time for it to show up. Pretty competently directed, good looking cast. Wouldn't necessarily recommend, but wouldn't say to not enter, either though, kek. Will probably check out Demonwarp tomorrow.

Do you like missing person shows? How about investigation movies & shows? What about Found Footage movies? Are you not /pol/ brained so you don't immediately ring the bell when you see a black person? If yes to all of them, then you should watch this movie. I like those kinds of movies, so this was a good watch for me.
>>
Watching a Shudder documentary about horror movies. They're discussing tropes:
teenagers having sex get killed - that's just how it is
running away upstairs from the killer instead of out of the house - that's just how it is
rednecks are evil - that's just how it is
the black character always gets killed - OMG! that is so wrong! why can't they put a bunch of other black characters in the movie to offset that?!?!
>>
>>219623318
Documentary (of any kind) is just another word for propaganda.
>>
>>219623318
i think comic relief should live longer and thats just how it is with black characters.
>>
>>219623286
>Found Footage movies?
The first time I saw that ("The Blair Witch Project") it was interesting. But the gimmick got old quickly. The shaky cam really gets on your nerves. Though they're not all shaky, yesterday I watched "Dybbuk Box The Story of Chris Chambers" which is supposedly a found footage movie, but the footage came from two stationary cameras. It was, however, extremely cheaply made. That's another point of critique, those movies generally are very cheap.
>>
>>219623521
Howard's Mill isn't that kind of FF movie. It's a missing person investigation, so more about interviews, discovering things, mystery, etc. It's more similar in style to HITHD. Even if you don't like FF movies, I'd probably always recommend [REC] & The Bay.
>>
>>219623521
i think static security cam style is what really put paranormal activity on the map cause it has fuck all else going for it.

Hate this movie. I remember being hyped as fuck for this before it dropped since it was from the same director as The Descent and Dog Soldiers only to be horribly disappointed when I finally watched it.
It's like 5 different movies crammed into one and none of them are good.
Even the car chase at the end was edited to absolute shit.
Director slightly redeemed himself with Centurion, but he has made nothing good since.
>>
>>219585313
>>
I liked the premise for it, two cops accidentally kill what they think are just some tweakers only to end up encountering a bunch of weird paranormal activity later on that night. And the end had some decent moments, sort of feeling like Blair Witch Project where they're trapped in some endlessly repeating environment. But it really feels like a V/H/S segment that for better or worse was dragged out to about 72 minutes. Also they messed up by showing the monster at the end, it was just a CG effect that straight up looked some Killing Floor or Half Life 2 shit.
>>
>>219627491
Yep another good premise, poor execution movie. It really went down the shitter with the cop's mom.
>>
>>219627491
Do the cops 'accidentally' killing the tweakers play any role in the rest of the movie; or was it only for COPS BAD zogsloppery?
>>
>>219627653
Its not really just an excuse for COPS BAD, because all the tweakers in this run down neighborhood ended up being part of a local cult that is run by this mysterious demon. Plus it only seems to be one squad out of a bunch of them.
>>
>>219627653
One of the cops justifyingly (IMO) shoots someone, which is the catalyst for everything else.

>>
>>219629206

>>
>>219629283
>Ending is fine if you're used to pretty much every movie leaving an opening
It's less the concept than the execution. I'd like to think even with videotape they could've done a lot better.

>>

like the original run of Mummy movies? those were 1932-1955. Fraser ones were 1999-2008, but there's a Mummy 4 coming which is actually Mummy 3 again since they are apparently ignoring the Dragon Emperor.
Then there's the 2017 Cruise one and now this.
>>
>>219639560
>unarmed civilians
Most "unarmed" shootings are suicide-by-cop where they do something retarded like reaching, mimicing pulling a gun, etc. There's also the fact that they can easily fight the police, reach for the cops gun, etc. which warrent use of deadly force.
>flashbangs on babies and pets
Go ahead and show proof that cops have used flashbangs specifically targeting babies.

I get it, you're edgy as fuck and hate cops. I hope if you ever get robbed, assaulted, hit in a traffic accident, etc. that you don't call the cops because otherwise you're a hypocrite.
