I'm imagining an alternate version of Eva where Shinji doesn't exist and the whole thing is heavily yuri themed. Gendo and the mysterious powers that be would be a vicious, exploitative male force hanging over everything, and Asuka, Rei, Misato, Akagi, and all the other girls would have to band together to take them down and liberate themselves.

The aftermath of Third Impact would be basically a yuri paradise - Asuka and Rei standing hand-in-hand like two Eves, to rebuild a better world where femininity is free from male corruption.

Something like that.

I've also fantasised about a yuri version of Eva, preferably one based on Proposal of Evangelion, a more traditional mecha series with an adventure mystery aspect akin to Nadia.
The story would center around Asuka and how her relationships with Hikari, Rei, and Misato help her cope with the trauma inflicted by her mother.
The ending could be Lilith giving birth to the new (wo)mankind alongside Asuka.

I love the idea of Asuka being kinda the protagonist in yuri Eva, and that ending sounds awesome. Do you have any other ideas for the concept? Would love to hear them if so!

Not really sure how it would fit in, and it could be sorta philosophized on in various ways, but maybe the only people who would 'return' from Instrumentality would be the yuri-minded girls who follow Asuka after she refuses it and breaks out. Who could then go on to create a new world thanks to Lilith or something.

Possibly. The focus on maternity would give Instrumentality a much heavier subtext of returning to the maternal womb, and the conclusion would be to grow past that and find happiness with a girl your age.
