After watching this I started rewatching scenes and studying them in a new light. It has really helped me appreciate all the subtle details that made Iroha and Kaguya's attraction so iron clad.

>I'm expecting you to give me 3 words in response
>If you understand then why's my right hand empty?
>Come and fix that, won't you please?
>I'm not being selfish, I just know what I deserve
>I want you to love me from the bottom of your heart and see how cute I am
Rewatching this scene in particular really makes me smile. The song itself was so romantic on the first watch since it looked like it was about Kaguya getting jealous when Yachiyo gets to sing the part about getting an "I love you" and a wedding ring. Knowing the twist adds so many extra layers to the entire song and also to all the small expressions that they animated in this scene.

Just hand scissoring, hand kissing, hand holding, marriage proposal and acceptance, cohabitation, and one very big reason that I will not ruin for you even with a spoiler. If a kiss is a dealbreaker then just watch Sakura Trick first to fill your kiss quota in preparation to brave a movie without mucous membrane contact. The premise of this movie is wildly, explicitly romantic while being too chaste like the hets usually get in their big budget films. Go watch it now so you can experience it without spoilers and then ride the wave of popular yuri artists flocking to this movie with fanart like moths to the yuri flame.

Watching the early scenes again is something else knowing that Kaguya later saysshe fell in love with Iroha's beauty at first sight.

I'll convert the hand scissoring into webms tomorrow if no one has any posted by then. I'm hoping the guide book will dedicate an interview question to help explain who came up with this brilliant feat of animation.

More than anything, watching this made me so pleasantly obsessed. I rarely get to feel thoroughly hooked by a story after finishing it. I am nearly in disbelief that they were able to pitch a yuri retelling of a japanese fable to big business and end up with a multimillion production budget. The reviews are all positive and I really hope is a hit. This gave me hope that kaguya is only the first big budget yuri movie in a long line.

How 'hot' is the book? I'm tightening my belt a bit after whaling on watanare doujins, and I would like to wait at least until next month salary to also whale on this.

I'm always happy for surprise yuri movies. I am also extremely wary of the kind of mainstream stuff some anons here pretend to be yuri. There are idiots out there who claim Takopi's Original Sin is yuri after all. Like unironically.
But OP is doing a good job shilling it, so I will give this a go just in case. Will report later whether this is actually yuri or not.
>>
>>
>>4520175
If it is like other fan/guide books I have from previous anime, it is mostly interviews and concept art. My guess is it will have a few new pieces at the beginning and end, probably related to the MV animation being released. Someone will scan it if you want to save your money. I see melon is already out of stock but Amazon probably has a ton of them. I preordered it along with the other books since the the total is only about $30 for all 3.
>>4520177
If you can think of a good way to sell someone on the yuri without giving away the ending please share. I would have been so sad if I didn't get to go into this blind. The surprises wrung the tears from me.
>>
>>
>>
>>4520178
I'm not an elitist for wanting explicit yuri. That is the baseline. Takopi has literally zero yuri in it, yet some claimed it was a yuri anime/manga because of 30 seconds of two character being shown as friends by the end.

>to sell someone on the yuri without giving away the ending please share
I gotta watch it before I actually know. Be back in a couple of hours.

So if she never found someone she wanted to marry she wouldn't have been taken? Fucking moon people basically saw her slowly becoming a happy house wife, said "nope", and had her return to her dead end job filing paperwork.
>>
>>
>>4520189
She did say she finished all her work and put up a replacement (which if you interpret the picture right was probably a literal bot version of herself), so strangely enough she actually could have gotten away with it. That's probably also why the Lunarians didnt come for her a second time... unfortunately that was kinda bad for her this time.
>>
>>4520199
She said she blitzed through her work yet it still took her so long that Iroha was an old lady by then. She would've never been able to free herself of her responsibilities and be with Iroha while she was still young.
>>
>>4520177(me)
Well I did watch the whole movie now.
Fuck.
In easy terms, this is yuri. In uneasy terms, Kaguya's love for Iroha was stated explicitely over and over and I would have to be the worst piece of shit contrarian in the universe to claim after all Iroha did that she does not requite those feelings.
There is so much pain in the way things ended, but things are complicated and a lot of things are vague enough to be up for interpretation regardless.
My main confusion is whyYachiyo and Kaguya both seem to exist by the end. I mean I could understand that Yachiyo's consciousness was uploaded into the robot boy, but you can only copy, not actually transfer consciousness in data. So technically there are two Kaguya's now. The Yachiyo in the robot body acting more like the original Kaguya might be just some anime magic or it's because body and self-image align like that. Of course it would be cruel to "delete" the Yachiyo inside Tsukiyomi, so she was kept around. At least that's my guess.
Of course with robotics and all, eventually Iroha would grow old while Kaguya/Yachiyo wont which feels like a second tragedy, especially because the original Kaguya seemed to be capable of aging properly and was biological despite coming from data. Lunarian tech is fucking weird. But one of the Mirage trio even said he wanted a robot body like his avatar, so I have a feeling this is the beginning of physical transcendence for humanity.
>>
>>
>>
I think the Yachiyo still inside Tsukuyomi is simply a copy, we've seen she can split up to appear to multiple people at once during her performances. The original Yachiyo is the one inside the Kaguya bot. You can see several instances throughout the movie where she still acts playful like Kaguya, so once she's back in her body with Iroha in the real world she's just able to fully behave like her old self again.
>>
>>
>>4520206
I have some issues with this interpretation for several reasons.
Yachiyo directly stated thather "disembodied soul" was stuck inside her space pod. This implies to me that she has an actual data soul. Her ship and thus her soul are directly linked to the Tsukiyomi server which she created. That would mean, in my opinion, that Yachiyo in Tsukiyomi is still the "real" Kaguya who suffered for those 8000 years waiting. Then the question remains whether the Kaguya robot is actually a copy OR a remote controlled drone in a sense. The soul inside the space ship is controlling the robot body through the Tsukiyomi server... something like that?
Also in regards to her personality, while I agree thatsome traces of the original Kaguya were still in Yachiyo, she was clearly heavily wheathered by 8000 years of solitude and loneliness without Iroha. It felt like her happy-go-lucky attitude was mostly an act for most of the movie. I can accept that being with Iroha again, in a body that feels more like herself is a way to rejuvinate her old personality, but in the first place she CHOSE this Yachiyo form to represent her in Tsukiyomi. I doubt it was just to close the loop, she clearly thought of herself as a different person. That's why when her younger "real" kaguya version said she wished she was more like Yachiyo to win over Iroha's love, Yachiyo replies that its Kaguya who Iroha really wants.
>>
>>4520209Ultimately I think establishing which one is the original is kind of a superfluous distinction to make since both the Kaguyabot and the virtual Yachiyo are the same being. For what it's worth, during those 8,000 years Yachiyo says she uses Fuchi's sea slug body as a medium to communicate with humans so it could be that her soul is in the internet and her physical bodies (Fuchi, the Kaguyabot) are conduits or "remote drones". By this logic, her flesh Kaguya body she made in the telephone pole was also just a conduit and not any more "real" than the others. You can tell at the start that her first space ship strikes a power line and turns into electricity until the baby materializes in the pole. Her soul must still be somewhere in the lunarians' internet-like plane of existence.
Yachiyo gets playful while interacting with Iroha. I feel moments like when she flirts with her while performing World is Mine and Kaguya gets all jealous are completely genuine. The original Kaguya was still inside her all along waiting to come out.
>>

I think the distinction is VITAL actually, because it is the difference betweenTWO Kaguyas existing and just one existing that controls several forms.
I think having two seperate Kaguyas/Yachiyos here would actually cause a lot of problems of identity and also feel a bit uncomfortable. I much prefer the remote controlled body theory.
However I don't think that the "real" Kaguya is in the Lunarian network. I think she genuinely escaped from that moon space or she wouldn't have needed to return in the first place. And as the data that went through the powerline created a REAL flesh and blood body, I cannot accept that it is the same as just a remote controlled drone. At first I thought the bangle was like a transmitter, but she could persist without it after she gave it to Iroha. On the other hand, the only reason Iroha's song could reach Kaguya on the moon was clearly because Iroha sang into the bangle.
In conclusion I believe that Kaguya only has one soul that actually travels on the space ship and because of the crash landing it is stuck in there.
In regards to Yachiyo's actions with Iroha, I will say it againthere are clearly traces of the original Kaguya in her, especially her undying love for Iroha is eternal. But I still think her personality shifted after all that time. Enough that she herself felt a distinction between young Kaguya and herself. Even Iroha seems to think so. When she said "Kaguya never made a sad expression like that", it distinctly felt like she was drawing a line between the two. But when she absorbed all the memories of Yachiyo, Iroha also changed and accepted this version of Kaguya as real.
I find the sudden personality shift jarring is all, but I am not claiming that it's completely absurd.
On a side note, Iroha clearlyhaving a crush on Yachiyo since before she ever met Kaguyawas really interesting all things considered.

I'm not a vocaloid fan, so I had pretty low expectations and even forgot this movie was a thing until the day it came out, but after watching it I can say that I've loved basically everything about it, the only nitpick I have is the part after the time skip feeling kinda rushed. MC's original choice was law school, the usual choice expected of smart people and it depends on what you are doing. If you just do paralegal/admin then yes you're a office drone and you could be stuck photocopying- and you're probably getting paid like shit. But if she went on to be a lawyer there's a spectrum. It can be glorified paper pusher/office work like Property. If she got into commercial side there's a lot more thinking involved, lots of stuff to read and litigation. Everyone loves arguing. Criminal. That's the stuff on TV and if you want to be in that glorified role it can work out for you.
However, in saying that law can become draining in other ways. In Commercial, if you go high enough you are on call for CEOs at 2 to 4 just to review contracts. Criminal? Well imagine if you're running defense...and you're defending a literal pede. And then you make a career out of defending pedes.
And let's not get started on Family.

Just out of curiosity I watched the movie a second time with the English dub. It's actually quite decent? Like not at all on the Japanese level, but it is very good nontheless. I was also super surprised that all the songs got English covers. For that alone it's worth a rewatch like this.
The only voice that I find a bit unfortunate is Yachiyo's. It's an impossible act to follow the Japanese VA who has a legendary soothing voice and the most subtle performances.

There's a lot of moments like this that stand out or have new meaning on a second watch. And there's a bunch that I missed just because things went too fast.Iroha's ticket to Yachiyo's first event lists it as a handshake event, hence the Yachiyo copies interacting with the crowd afterwards, and her stopping Iroha to clasp hands with her before she leaves. And then there's this quick scene from the montage where the text is left untranslated: the question is "what would you want with you on a desert island?" Kaguya's answer is Iroha, but it's censored since she wrote her real name: The overlay text is "*IroP's real name" and "is it okay to broadcast that? lol"Cute.

One thing I don't get is why they even confronted the Lunarians in Tsukuyomi. The argument was literally "They can't do anything in the real world, so let's fight them online." Like... why? They apparently cannot get Kaguya in real life.

>>4520214Almost every bit of the movie can be looked at under a microscope to reveal so many clues about Kaguya/Yachiyo's love for Iroha, but inspecting the last act of the movie deeply for other details will unwind some of the tightly bound narrative that wrapped everything up so well. We can't decipher the consequences of a time travel paradox while simultaneously unlocking the mystery of the soul. Iroha is in love with Kaguya, and for most of the movie that could be interpreted as two people, but at the end of the movie, there is only one being on Earth that fits this criteria no matter how many extensions of her exist. As for Kaguya-bot, her having the appearance and quirky behaviors even though Yachiyo's experiences changed her is no different than your grandma being more playful when getting to re-experience something from her youth. I do like the idea that this is just the beginning and a rapid technological advancement will allow them to transcend mortality so Iroha and Kaguya will be together forever.
>>4520294

I had the same thought during the movie. Also why couldn'tYachiyo take Kaguya's place when they came to take her? Or alter the outcome to prevent the same tragic result? I haven't rewatched yet to see if it is the case, but it clearly felt like the dog that Yachiyo pets and apologizes to before it climbs up on Kaguya to get beamed up with her was meant for something more. My pet theory is the dog becomes the decoy that is left on the moon so Kaguya can escape the 2nd time without anyone chasing after her, and I wonder if there is any small detail in the montage scenes that show something like this. I think they went for the classic time travel paradox where the events are causally linked and can't be changed, so knowing the future isn't enough to prevent it and these events had to happen because Yachiyo already exists. It breaks down quickly to scrutiny so I'd rather not think about it. Time travel really fucks with the ability to rationalize a story because it has no basis in human experience unless its the time dilation variety.
>>4520353
I am 100% positive some level of the production process placed restrictions on what they could show due to the size of the budget/production. However, restrictions help lead to creative ways to skirt the rules, which is why I think the scissor kiss animations >>4520240 were the direct result of the story and animation team wanting to still show more and devised a way to make sure any audience member would connect the dots. The success of this movie should help future teams push back and take bigger leaps.
>>
>>4520363
They are literally not hiding sexual attraction in any way (there is tons of physical contact, blushing and love confessions). Not having a kiss is not that uncommon in Jap movies.
You expect them to make out and try to suck each others tits in a 12+ movie, but this is supposed to be a more softcore story to begin with. There isnt even a drop of blood in this story either. It's very tame.
>>
>>4520365Inu-Doge goes with Kaguya when she attempts to return to Earth and travels back in time. Yachiyo outright says the accident leaves them only able to incarnate him as the sea slug Fuchi which Kaguya inhabits for the next 8,000 years and then he becomes Yachiyo's pet inside Tsukuyomi who you saw throughout the movie.
>>
>>4520365
>why couldn't Yachiyo take Kaguya's place? She is damaged goods. Her soul is stuck in a broken ship. They still respected her and backed off when she threw around some of their drones, showing that they still perceive her as one of them. From all we have seen though, the Lunarians are so technologically advanced that nobody could have actually stopped them in the virtual world. Hence why I dont understand why they had their last stand in the enemy's prefered territory...
>the dogThe dog became the seaslug. The space ship only had enough juice to give the dog a physical form. So it became an important intermediary to make sure Kaguya could become Yachiyo. The copy Kaguya made on the moon isnt actually a decoy, she finished her work after all. She just left behind a robot that could deal with any future work.
>fate cannot be changedYes, it is clearly implied to be a perfect loop. I think the implication is that the Lunarians would always succeed no matter what, but I just dont get how they could have done so. The movie didnt really try to explain how. That's the only gap I can see.
>>
>>4520347
I mean it's just a hyper paced retelling of the movie, so it feels kinda pointless after you watched it. I can't believe I'm saying this, but somehow the MOVIE is more detailed and a better pace. This one chapter only covers 15 minutes of the movie and somehow feels like it skips half of those 15 minutes.
>>
>>4520365
>>4520367The lunarians interfere with the internet the first time they show up. If Kaguya never connected again to escape them they'd most likely start causing more and more havoc for humans by disrupting the digital world. Also for the timeline to work at all it's necessary that Kaguya does return to the moon so the time loop can begin/continue. Yachiyo and Tsukuyomi couldn't exist otherwise and the events of the movie wouldn't happen, so Yachiyo facilitates Kaguya being brought back. Kaguya herself knows she can't keep running away forever.

Oh of course, that is so obvious now.I just fundamentally made the wrong assumption for the connection between the dog, the slug, and Yachiyo. For some reason I thought Yachiyo created the slug as an extension of herself because she landed in the sea and didn't see anything about the dog there. The 8000 year time skip montage went by too fast and I was crying through all of it so I just need to watch it again.
>>4520371
That's an interesting parallel toIroha running away from confronting her mother, and adds more beauty to it because she finds the courage to face this for Kaguya and pursue her truest desire. Thinking about it that way makes reveling in the destruction of "my responsibilities before my happiness" with their happy ending that much sweeter.

I think you guys missed the wholetime loop thing, it's explained clearly that Yachiyo is not the Kaguya that Iroha knows, she's the one from the previous cycle, which keeps repeating because time travel shenanigans.
And that's why there's technically two Kaguyas in the end, because there were two in the beginning as well, nothing's changed in that regard; Iroha makes a body for the one she actually met in person 10 years before, not the one who spent 8000 years navigating history through the slug, and who's now just an AI acting in Tsukuyomi; remember when Iroha specifically asked Yachiyo about her own Kaguya?
Yes, the non-granny Kaguya was supposedly stuck in the past as well, so Iroha also managed to recover her consciousness somehow, probably with Yachiyo's moon tech cheats.
>>
>>4520373
The overall message of the movie seems to be neither to bow down to your responsibilities and abandon your happiness nor conversely to escape from them to chase happiness without a plan, but rather to focus on building your happiness through effort and responsibility. It won't be quick and easy but it will be worth it.

That is completely wrong. Like, just straight up getting all the plot threads confused. The Kaguya Iroha met 10 years ago is currently 8000 years in the past, because she time traveled back and hit a meteor on her way back to Earth. That is the entire point of the loop.
Yachiyo is the only Kaguya by the end of the movie. She is literally narrating the entire movie and says at the end how she is looking forward to eating pancakes again, because Iroha is making a body for her. The robot Kaguya is either a copy or a remote controlled Yachiyo. There is nobody else. The loop was unbreakable, but there is a happy ending AFTER the events of the loop. That is what Iroha made possible.
I dont understand what place you sucked all of the made up plot points from. Really strange.

To be fair to anon the movie really packs everything in the last act. To add to the explanation the movietimeline starts with Yachiyo=Kaguya8000 singing the debut song to Iroha. Kaguya0 lands on Earth and falls in love. Kaguya0 is taken back to the moon until Iroha sings the debut song to wake up Kaguya0 from her OL prison. In this process Iroha realizes the origin of the debut song is only possible if Kaguya is Yachiyo but she doesn't know how so she goes into VR to find Yachiyo. There she learns Kaguya0 left the moon to return to her, but tragedy sent her 8000 years in the past. She keeps smiling while waiting those 8000 years by spreading her love story until she becomes Yachiyo and can share her love directly with Iroha again at long last in the form of the debut song, knowing she can be reunited. Now I'm crying again. That settles it I'll go watch the movie again now.
>>
>>4520382
Anon, the whole 'happy ending' thing in the final dpurt was all aboutIroha managing to save her own Kaguya from the time loop of suffering, and she succeeded. She didn't just give up and let her go through everything Yachiyo had to, that's what she achieved, otherwise she'd be stuck with just the granny who is a different person from the one dhe lived with, which wouldn't be a happy ending at all..
No wonder you're confused by the Kaguya situation in the end, I'd recommend a rewatch, at least of the last 30 minutes.

No, you made all of this up. There is literally not a single scene, frame or dialogue piece that in any way implies what you are saying here. There is no plot device or reason to believe that she is actually somehow retrieving the Kaguya 8000 years in the past to the present. That Kaguya will become the current Yachiyo. The fact that Yachiyo exists already proves the loop happened.
YOU are the one who is confused and I will guarantee that every other anon here who watched the movie agrees with me on this. You saw the robot Kaguya looking like that and misinterpreted what happened. Iroha is going through robot iterations to give Yachiyo a body again. You are also mistaken about Yachiyo being an AI. That whole thing was a red herring. She is literally just connected to Tsukuyomi via her spaceship and using a virtual avatar to control the server. How do you explain Yachiyo's narration after the credits in your convoluted unsupported interpretation? Is Iroha making a body for both of them in your fantasy? How exactly did Iroha retreieve Kaguya from 8000 years in the past? None of this makes sense.
I highly suggest that (You) rewatch the movie or at least the last hour of it.
>>
>>
>>4520393
You are not convincing anyone by pretending to be another anon...
She didmeet her Kaguya again. Yachiyo is that Kaguya. How is this so hard to understand? They are the same person. Yachiyo is just an 8000 year old Kaguya. It's like saying if you didnt see someone for 10 years they are not the same person (literally, not figuratively).
>>
>>
>>4520399
I have watched the movie TWICE today, both in Japanese and in English. There is NOTHING in it that supports your theory. If you want me to believe your interpretation you actually need to support it with evidence. You cant even explain the central pillar of your theory. You say you "cant make it clearer", but you havent even explained a single thing yet. You just made a claim and pretended its self-evident.
If you arent trolling you are just kinda media illiterate.

You are right that the final act rushes a lot, but the plot is not so confusing that I can excuse how wrong that anon is about such an obvious plot point.
I have my own reservations I mentioned before likethe fighting the Lunarians in the virtual world or why Yachiyo in the robot body immediately returned to her own personality, but those are actually somewhat vague unlike the central premise of the entire movie...

No anon, you don't get to wind your way out like this. You made a very definitive claim, so tell me where in the movie it is supported. No distractions, no deflections to other media that isnt out yet. What in the actual movie says what you claim? Let me guess, it's all "vibes". While I can see how it is more ideal that Kaguya never has any suffering, that meansYachiyo is alone forever because Iroha takes Kaguya over her. That is pretty depressing so not seeing how that would be your idealized ending.Kaguya and Iroha are star crossed lovers and Kaguya endures 8000 years smiling alone because she will reunite with Iroha.
>>
>>
>>4520407
>when she's stuck doing paperwork till Iroha dies as an old hag.
The recent Kaguya is currently on her way to earth, we did see her set out when Irohas song reached her.
I do actually think it feels like a incomplete ending to not interrupt that timeline by not letting her crash 8000 years in the past. And have two.
>>
>>
>>4520414
Because time isnt working linearily... due to time travel, what we see is not happening simultaneously. The time gap between Kaguya hearing the song and starting her space ship to leave is long enough for Iroha to actually turn into a granny. It doesnt matter to Kaguya, because she assumes she will travel right back to the point in time where Iroha sings the song. If that wasnt the case there would be no reason for her to time travel in the first place...
>>
>>
>>4520418Does this imply that Kaguya is going to run into the same accident and end up in a different timeline's 6000BC, and continue the loop by being Yachiyo to a new Iroha? Or will the accident only happen once, and she successfully time travels and meets up with Iroha, Yachiyo, and her new robot body?
>>
>>4520418
Its not actually said if it was the song that took so long or the journey, or both. I grant it could be the song.
But the point is that Kaguya does arrive on earth before she sets out to time travel, so its possible to avert her fate by Iroha just sticking around long enough thanks to robo-body technology.
>>
>>
>>4520423
Yachiyo literally says thatthe Kaguya that Iroha knows is currently traveling through time and will end up 8000 years in the past. The movie literally spells it out after Iroha asks where "her" Kaguya is.
It's a stable time loop. Yachiyo's existence means Kaguya traveled back. It is already decided. That's why everyone calls it fate. It can't be averted, but they can go beyond it (aka giving Yachiyo a Kaguya body and living their lives happily together making up for lost time).
>>
>>4520423
As it standsit looks like a stable timeloop on the surface, so the Kaguya that we saw is now going to end up on earth 8000 years ago. I will say I think it would be a plothole to have Iroha die of old age with her amazing robot technology, now that she 'knows' there is a Kaguya coming to meet her in a few decades.
So I choose to believe the knowledge Iroha acauired from Yachiyo breakd that timeline as the ultimate Fuck You to destiny
>>
>>
>>4520427
Correction, because it mattersshe says Kaguya is currently in the same loop of fate, not in the time travel part of that loop.
Also the whole "we can't ever escape it" part is clearly meant to be fatalism thats overturned, not a final statement.
>>
>>4520424
No... sigh... okay one more time,
1. Kaguya escapes the moon and travels to earth, creates an organic body, meets Iroha, has a gay old time
2. Kaguya gets taken back to the moon by the Lunarians
3. Iroha sends her song to Kaguya on the moon, who then decides to finish her wokr as fast as possible so she can travel back to Earth
4. By the time Kaguya is finished with work and making a replacement for herself, enough time has passed that she assumes Iroha is an old lady by now, having wasted her whole life never reuniting with Kaguya
5. Kaguya uses the time travel function of her space ship to go back to the point in time where Iroha sang the song so they can reunite immediately
6. Her ship hits an asteroid on the way and malfunctions, sending her back 8000 years into the past instead of 80ish
7. Kaguya crashes in the ocean, ship is unable to give her a body, so she makes a body for her dog robot pet and turns it into a seaslug which she uses to communicate with people while stuck in her space ship
8. 8000 years pass in which Kaguya changes and eventually created Tsukuyomi and takes on the persona of Yachiyo
9. As Yachiyo she partakes in the events that lead to Kaguya returning to the moon after her first escape
10. Iroha sings her song for Kaguya on the moon, finds out Yachiyo is Kaguya, confronts her and then decides to get their happy ending by studying robotics to give Yachiyo a Kaguya body so they can be happy together in the real world again
This is the whole plot of the movie and how the stable time loop works. Part 10 is the happy ending Iroha creates beyond the loop.
>>
>>4520429
kaguya does not know that Iroha and robo-Yachiyo are still kicking around by that time (assuming they even did in the original timeline), so she just assumes that Iroha would be a granny by that point, as that is how time works for humans.
>>
>>4520435
>that she assumes Iroha is an old lady by now
This isn't whats actually in the movie. She specifically says she finds out 'after' she got to earth following the song. It doesn't even imply she pre-emptively knows or anticipates it. Kahguya travels to earth and THEN time travels.
This isn't even worth arguing about because she literally says that.

This isnt at all stated in the movie. You are just making that up. Yachiyo never specifies that she went back to earth, she just says by the time she finished her work and got ready to return, Iroha is already an old lady.
>>
>>4520439
No, that is a flashback to Kaguya suffering alone for 8000 years, waiting. Iroha literally sees all her memories that happen during those 8000 years afterwards and even hears her internal monologue where this kaguya realizes she was always going to be Yachiyo... holy shit, the media illiteracy.
>>
>>4520438
Man, there are even visuals showing you she hits an asteroid while attempting to reach Earth. What, you think she got to Earth, saw old lady Iroha, decided to time travel and to do so she had to get back into orbit and that's when she hit an asteroid? Sure, why not? The result is the same aside from the whole sequence becoming comically clunky.

This is literally exactly what she says in the scene where she explains her origin.
Finishes work -> it took too long -> travales to earth with time travel function
Traveling to earth and time traveling are the same step. There is no going to earth first and then going to space again to time travel only to hit an asteroid. She literally never went to earth again before the accident.
>>
>>4520445
I checked back and the english version might lead to that misunderstanding, but the japanese only says "a lot of time had passed" it doesn't imply she went back to find out.
We are left with the plothole of the lunarians not checking on her despite doing it the entire time for the first trip or why they can't just go and pick up that Kaguya now, but thats a whole different issue. Frankly not worth exploring for the main story and is more for threesome doujins.
>>
Original timeline: Yachiyo doesn't exist, Iroha and Kaguya meet, Kaguya leaves for good, Iroha sings for Kaguya but dies of old age without ever seeing her again. BAD END.
2nd timeline: the one we see in the anime.
Kaguya is now on Earth 8000 years before but crash landed, has to wait for humans to create VR, creates Yachiyo, has to let physical Kaguya and Iroha to meet and everything to not break the loop and create paradoxes, after Iroha sings she can finally reveal herself, Iroha makes her a physical body 10 years later, they get together. GOOD END.
>>
>>4520453
>We are left with the plothole of the lunarians not checking on her despite doing it the entire time for the first trip
She finished her work. It was never stated to be literally infinite. It was still so much prospective work that she got the idea to run away the first time, but after hearing Iroha's song she instead decided to power through the rest of it first specifically so the lunarians wouldn't be on her ass again.
>>
>>4520454
>they use Lunarian time travel texh to go back in time 8.000 years ago to pick up this timelines Kaguya and bring her back to their time with a second robot body
>they have sweaty gynoid sandwich lesbian sex forever
TRUE GOLDEN END
>>
>>4520454
This is certainly how the very first timeline had to happen logically, but that is kind of the problem with closed loops like this. Because if Kaguya actually VERIFIED that Iroha became and old lady and died (from a distance of course), then once the actual loop is established, she would instead see a robot version of herself (assumedly) with a robot bodied Iroha on every loop where Yachiyo exists.
So our only way to keep the loop actually logical and stable is to assume Kaguya never checked and just assumed before traveling through time.
>>
>>4520458
>So our only way to keep the loop actually logical and stable is to assume Kaguya never checked and just assumed before traveling through time.
I see no issue assuming this happened, given her personality.
Not sure how we are meant to think the baracelet works that it can transmit the song, but somehow no other information. Especially since Lunarians are provably capable of interacting with earth in 'real time', since they directly reacted to the bracelet checking on Kaguya falling in love.

I think trying too hard to make sense of time travel stories is a hopeless endeavor. They just don't make logical sense because they're fallacious in the first place. It's a science fiction invention, we don't know if they're actually possible. Time traveling most of the time assumes only the traveler retains memories of the previous timeline. That opens a gigantic can of worms because it implies there are infinite parallel universes. Just stop.
I think people shouldn't overthink things, it's just gonna ruin the enjoyment of the product.
I thik the gist of the story is the one I wrote >>4520454 and I'm just gonna stick with that.
>>
>>
>>4520460
Yes, the bangle being so conveniently limited is certainly a bit silly, but we honestly don't know anything about it beyond the fact that Lunarians could track Iroha through it and that it transmitted a song once.
Also I dont think the Lunarians reacted to Kaguya falling in love, as Kaguya literally states she fell in love the moment she saw Iroha for the first time.
The first time we see the bangle react is during the scene where she sees she wants to marry Iroha, but I feel like those things arent actually connected.

>>
>>4520467
It doesn't matter to the lunarians if she falls in love as long as she rejects her suitors and accepts being taken back to the moon, as she does in the original tale of the bamboo cutter where she still rejects the emperor despite genuinely loving him. Expressing the wish to marry Iroha and thus stay on Earth forever is what they cannot abide.
>>
>>4520463
I didnt have to think about it more than that, I literally gave you the solution to the problem in the same post.
>I think people shouldn't overthink things
That is literally the same thing Yachiyo said. She tells Iroha it's just a "fairy tale" so she shouldn't try too hard to understand it. It just plays into the whole Kaguyahime fate angle. Iroha wanting to understand everything that happened is what led to her getting the happy ending though.
>>
>>
>>4520468
But you said there were only two timelines, so the anime Yachiyo should be the first one to exist in time, and her flashback shouldn't have her calling out to another Yachiyo?
That should only happen for the first time to the Kaguya (young) of the anime timeline, no?
Unless the anime is actually the third loop or something.
>>
>>4520470
Well frankly, I feel like Yachiyo already gave up on ever having a chance with Iroha. She even hides away from her after Kaguya is taken to the moon. It's Fushi who guides Iroha to Yachiyo after Iroha makes abundantly clear that she will never give up searching for her.
In other words, Yachiyo gave up on being Iroha's Kaguya, until Iroha strongarmed her way back in and sweeped her off her feet.
It's painful to think that those fleeting moments with Iroha is all she felt she would ever have...
>>4520472
I never considered the fairy tale angle there, but it makes total sense with the themes of the movie. Very cool observation.
>>
>>4520475
First of all, I am not the anon with the two timelines post. Secondly in a stable loop cause and effect are already set in stone. The moment Kaguya went back in time, Yachiyo always existed. It's confusing, but that's how this concept generally works.
>>
>>4520478
Yeah, think of it as a loop with no beginning, not in terms of multiple timelines with an original one unchanged by time travel. Yachiyo and Tsukuyomi must be there in the first place or the events that lead to Kaguya going back in time wouldn't take place at all because Iroha would have no incentive to finish her old song. This is also why the idea of breaking the timeloop by preventing Kaguya from being taken back to the moon or time traveling is unfeasible, as once again Yachiyo wouldn't exist if those events changed.

>The first time we see the bangle react is during the scene where she sees she wants to marry Iroha, but I feel like those things arent actually connected.
In the original tale, the people of the moon let Kaguya stay on earth to let her develop material attachments (falling in love with the emperor in this case) because its meant to be a punishment. That is what decides for them to come and get her, when the emperor asks her to come live with him.
To me it felt obvious the movie mirrors that in that the lunarians come and get her only after Iroha accepts Kaguya's proposal. Its Iroha recipricating that triggers it, its not a coincidence.

I think it is overly harsh to say Yachiyo gave up just because she hides. She spent 8000 years explicitly never giving up in pursuit of their happy ending. She was only hiding after Kaguya left because she was worried Iroha wouldn't be able to requite her love when she learns what happened, and sharing that 8000 year old vulnerability is scary. Instead Iroha stomps over and makes her tell her story.
>>4520484
I just finished my 2nd watch and seeing everything from Yachiyo's perspective made it so much harder to go through a scene without crying myself. Let me start by saying I can't stand Vocaloid singing. Miku, Len, all of them just don't sound good. It's why I could never get into ProSeka.
But I won't deny the composition is professional and the Producers behind them are serious about their music. It's why their songs end up sounding much better when they go pro and start working with actual people- utaite, seiyu etc. That's why I regularly listen to Vocaloid music covers with ACTUAL people.
There are a lot of covers out there, some translated. I'll treat this as a cover but I wonder how a pro dub compares to what the fans have been doing.
>>
>>4520528
I mean Yachiyo's literal reaction during the confrontation is:
"I can't really call this a happy ending, can I?"
"I said I would get a happy ending and take you with me.... I messed up."
It feels like she overtly thinks she failed already. And seeing Iroha's love for the young Kaguya clearly made her feel even more unworthy of Iroha. I refer again to the scene where Kaguya says she wishes she was more like Yachiyo so she could have gained iroha's love faster and Yachiyo replies "No, it's you she wants, because you are Kaguya". I feel like the movie can't spell it out more obviously.
>>
>>4520565
The English covers are pretty decent though. No other dub actually re-recorded the songs, so that makes the English dub unique.
Also they only really covered the songs that are actually sung by the cast. They didn't cover Happy Synthesizer playing during the montage or the credits songs.

One thing I find really interesting is how the animators managed to make two distinct artstyles between the real world and the virtual world. The real world is full of thin lines and flat tones and stretchy motions. But in the game world every character model is hyper pretty, detailed and glowy. Everyone looks like they war make up and are idealized pretty.
I always subconsciously noticed this, but it's actually a very strong contrast if you pay attention to it.

Calm down, Iroha.
>>
I just realized... by traveling back in time and telling all kinds of people her story, Kaguya literally created the legend from the Bamboo Cutter herself. She is the origin of the Kaguya myth, which Iroha then shows her in the future and inspires her. Every single thing from the myth happens in a way during the movie.
Kaguya crash lands on earth from the moon, is raised by an old man (Iroha is described as being basically close to death and feeling old and tired, they even have the old man visual on her twice in the movie), get super popular with the humans, gets a buch of suitors, which are all rejected (or massacred by IroP to be exact) and even the Emperor ("Mikado", literally the character name of Iroha's brother) vies for her hand. She rejects him too, but when she finds true love the moon people come to Earth and completely defeat the humans trying to keep Kaguya on Earth. Kaguya leaves, forgets everything and never comes back.
That's where the tale ends, because Kaguya cannot finish the story until she meets Iroha again. The main difference between the tale and reality is that Kaguya NEVER forgets. She remembers and that's why she can continue the tale. Yachiyo is a refutation of the Kaguya myth that she herself created.
>>
>>
Also also also also... when Iroha saw the "shooting star" at the beginning of the movie she made a wish for money so she could live on her own without hardship.
When Kaguya leaves, she gives Iroha all the riches she amassed as a streamer as a parting gift. She is literally her shooting star fulfilling her wish!

What really makes that whole scene so good is that both songs are describing the relationship of Kaguya/Yachiyo and Iroha so well. The songs are very clearly directed AT Iroha, even though they pretend they are singing to the audience. The way they dance around her and close in makes this even more apparent.
>>
>>
>>4520731
You can see in the director's feature posted above that they staged the dances and fights in Tsukuyomi with 3D models for the characters then drew over them frame by frame like a digital version of rotoscoping. The director said 2D just feels more intimate to him. The environments and some elements like the giant light fish are CG but they blend in very well I think.

I love how Iroha acts all upbeat and determined not to let things end like that after the fakeout ending, but once she's faced with Kaguya's situation she just breaks down and admits her true feelings with no more filters. It contrasts her acting tsundere towards Kaguya earlier such as when she accepts her marriage proposal or "holding herself back for the sake of something more important" as Kaguya puts it at the fireworks festival when Iroha and Kaguya herself accept Kaguya's fate of returning to the moon despite it being the last thing they want. Beautiful development.

They actually did some proper "Vtuber" style shorts for Yachiyo to promote the movie. As someone who used to watch Vtubers, I can say that this is extremely well mad L2D that could fool anyone into believing she was an actual Vtuber. Even the "setting" of being an 8000 year old AI being used as a gag is on point. Editing and sound effects are also very reminiscent of early Vtuber shorts.

That song is great and the scene for it is one of the most rewarding ones to rewatch after knowing the ending. It is so moving to understand whyYachiyo was all over Iroha and it adds a deeper understanding to the lyrics from her perspective. I actually enjoyed just about every song except that Ex- one they did at the show together which had the weirdest uncoordinated backing track with a truly terrible 1000 bpm rhythm. I downloaded a different source after the fact just to check my audio wasn't bugged on that copy and I'm still not convinced because I can't understand why someone thought that sounded good.
>>4520762
My first impression of the last act was overwhelmed by the complexities of a sudden story twist and the fast pace, but after seeing it again and spending more time thinking about it I now see it as one of the emotional highlights of the entire movie. Getting such an unfiltered display of their love for each other and seeing the dedication they have for that love on display through the lengths they go to protect it is gratifying beyond compare.

Apparently the director was very particular the scene where Iroha gargles after brushing her teeth. Watching it I assumed Kaguya's reaction was to Iroha's words about accepting fate, but she was just captivated by the sight of Iroha gargling. If watch the scene her eyes glisten and you can hear her let out a little gasp. Amazing.

That music/animation video on the 31st has a thumbnail of Iroha and Kaguya holding hands in a flower field. Notably Iroha is wearing the bangle, which means it has to be after the events if the movie.

The director said it's going to show everyone's happy ending so yeah, it's set after everything else in the movie. It will use the first song that plays during the credits so it could be seen as the movie's proper credits sequence with more than just the black screen with names and production art.
>>

Unsorted thoughts.
Time loops can't just pop into existence, so the initial events could not have Yachiyo. What did happen the first time to lead to this? Unclear.
The confusion about "how is there two of them" itself is what's confusing to me, because Iroha outright describes Yachiyo as
>分身もできて歌って踊れて8000歳って設定
who then proceeds to constantly split into like 100 bodies at a time. This is the one part that's made pretty clear. Now, why her personality reverted or if it did at all, I'm not sure.
I get the idea behind the ugly as sin live2d vtumor shit, but it makes no sense for a futuristic (pseudo-)AI to use it at all, and considering the main idea behind the character was "Miku if she real", it's just a disgrace.
How and why do they have fulldive VR lenses? I get using something like that for purely visual VR for full FoV, but when it basically somehow brainjacks you anyway it seems unnecessary. And particularly infeasible. I probably shouldn't question the sci-fi elements at all but can't help it.
I'm not too familiar with the original story, but seems like the elixir of immortality was dropped entirely here. Then again maybe the synth body project is supposed to be that, in a way. And so it becomes a Koukaku no Pandora successor that we won't actually get to see.
Last stretch was kinda underwhelming. Kaguya was already back before she even left, but she really wanted some pancakes, so instead of having to defy time and space somehow to save her while keeping Yachiyo (well maybe that would have been too cheesy), Iroha just had to go research synthetic bodies real quick. But there doesn't seem to have been any real reason for VR not to have taste/smell simulation specifically other than so it could lead to this, and I imagine she could have easily implemented that way sooner if it wasn't already done by someone else during the timeskip.
Really enjoyed most of the movie, but the ending felt... not bad but somehow off.
>>
>>4521071
The time loop always existed. The moment Kaguya decided to leave the moon Yachiyo already existed because of time travel allowing for multiple paradoxical events to occur at the same time. There is no beginning or end and it kind of fucks with free will, so like Yachiyo said don't think about it too much.
There are two of them coexisting at the same time because as I mentioned the way each character experiences time is not linear.
Yachiyo isn't a psuedo AI, she's just a soul trapped in her ship. She's no different than someone multitasking like a script kiddie with 8000 tabs open.
The VR doesn't provide full sensation. There is limited brainwave feedback and input but they don't have taste or touch. Iroha wants Kaguya to have a body to feel her real warmth, so Iroha will never settle for less.
I felt a similar pang over the ending until I slept on it and then watched the movie a 2nd time. Now it makes sense and feels good. If you have the time it is worth seeing it again and experiencing Yachiyo's perspective.
>>
>>4521076
Realized right as I posted that I worded that poorly. The characters all experience time linearly but the story events are not explainable in an entirely linear way because Yachiyo's travels occur simultaneously during and before the movie, because time travel.
>>
>>4521076
>don't think about it too much.
Well I can't. Time travel makes zero sense in the first place, so I need it to make some sense.
>There are two of them coexisting at the same time
I'm talking about Yachiyo being in the synth body and in VR at the same time, the reason for which has been clearly established and shouldn't even need to be questioned.
>The VR doesn't provide full sensation
All the same. The magic lenses they have shouldn't really provide any sensation or allow for crazy action movement, yet they do. Simulating more things would have been a lot easier, and I can only headcanon that the reason she went for the android approach is because Yachiyo assured her it's doable.

I do at least see now sense of touch explicitly mentioned; if there was any mention/implication of it at an earlier point I must have missed it.
>>
>>4521080
I am assuming there's some sort of neural connection, that being said there is no feeling to touch/taste/smell. Yachiyo longs to touch Iroha but it was only after 8010 years that Iroha was able to build a body for her.

If they had anything released now I think I'd bankrupt myself scrambling to get them all. Nendoroids and pop up parade figures are probably a sure thing, and since this is a netflix production it should garner some scales. I'd kill for a posed couple figure of them watching fireworks holding hands, or a goofy Kaguya and Iroha pose of them at home together. Really just any new merch that isn't the exclusively using the VR character designs would be nice too. I want real life Kaguya and Iroha acrylic stands at the very least so I can put something on my shelf to look at when I'm not rewatching scenes and scrolling for new fanart.

Scheduled maintenance time? Or maybe she does it because Fuchi had to regularly sleep during those almost 8,000 years she was inhabiting his body so she's used to it and doesn't want to lose another connection to her humanity.
>>
>>
>>4521132
She needed to sleep as Kaguya too, why wouldn't she as Yachiyo? Just because she's stuck controlling an avatar from inside a bamboo shoot instead of popping out of a utility pole doesn't change the fundamental nature of her existence. I think you are misunderstanding what Yachiyo is because the movie tells people that she is an AI supercomputer when she is not.

They said VR is closer than real life, but that doesn't mean they are literally digital machines. If she is a photon based lifeform or something exotic like that it still doesn't necessarily preclude sleep. She exhibits human traits like sleep because she is effectively human in all ways except origin. Plus it made for all those cute scenes of them sleeping together.

That's not how blu-ray distribution works. And you should consider that the amount of views and hype this movie gets will determine whether netflix will ever invest in similar projects again.

>any new merch that isn't the exclusively using the VR character designs would be nice
Unfortunately the VR designs are the more iconic visual of this movie and Yachiyo would look kinda weird next to the IRL version for Iroha and Kaguya. So I think they are gonna go for the VR avatars mostly.
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQVOVUxs9yo
It's kinda nuts how this song both spells out the whole movie's plot and is also a character study of both Kaguya and Yachiyo. All while being a ballad directed at Iroha, rather than the audience.
Kaguya's parts are reflecting more on what her life was like on the moon and how she now yearns for life with Iroha. Yachiyo describes her lonely 8000 years looking back on her time with Iroha and how on their reunion she cannot help but want her to realize who she is.
>>
>>
>>
>>4521166
Right? What is crazy to me is how closely I read the lyrics on the first watch, yet missed the plain as day connection because they hid the twist so well and made us so high on Kaguya and Iroha that we wouldn't think how Yachiyo was right there.
>>
>>4521161
They're definitely more than just exotic, and generally tech-attuned. Maybe "digital" isn't the right word, but I wouldn't be surprised if the easiest way to describe them from a human standpoint was "AI", even if it's not artificial either. Hard to say for sure since they don't really go into detail.
While that still doesn't mean she won't need to sleep once in a while, I wonder why there's a need for such a strict reverse alarm-clock.
>>
>>4521171
I think Lunarians might just be extra-dimensional and cyberspace is easier to pass into.

Kinda nuts how we got two amazing yuri movies in January of this year already... there have been no real yuri movies (maybe Omuuro-ke is sort of one?) at all... and then we just get WataNare and Cosmic Princess Kaguya back to back. I find the idea of a handholding event pretty ironic if they couldn't sense it. I think it might just be Yachiyo specifically who cannot sense touch, because she has no human body in the real world to feel these sensations.
During the fight with Mikado, Kaguya specifically mentions how getting killed in the game "hurts" (which I assume isnt like intense pain, just a bit of a twinge).
>>

It's probably like a basic full body haptic feedback suit... without the suit. Not fine enough to feel texture and no temp support, I suppose. Depending on how the VR world is designed there may not even be anything extra to feel in the first place.

I correct myself, buying BDs the money that goes to the people who actually produced it is much more than the money they get when you buy a subscription to a western streaming service, and you get what you want against paying for a limited access to a catalog you don't care about for a single movie that you won't even own, forced in an interface you have no control over, and the only job they do, adding subtitles, is a sloppy job with localizations, wrong translations, political agenda and no formatting (still using srt in 2026).
>>
>>4521235
>cries about paying 5 bucks to watch a movie as many times as he wants for a month
You would probably collapse if you saw the price of watching a single movie in the cinema or on any other streaming platform where you pay to "borrow" the movie. lmao
Also Netflix has some other good yuri relevant stuff, like Arcane. You get more than your money's worth if you didn't just blindly look at it through the lens of despising as platform for some tribal mental retardation.
That whole autistic rant about localisation is hilarious considering the blu-ray will have the except same type of localisation by the way. Pathetic. You should probably just cry yourself to sleep, because being elitist and a poorfag at the same time is not gonna end well for you.
>>
>>
Speaking of localisation, I am confused by the English dub. Some lines in it are just wrong or say the exact opposite of what is actually being said in the Japanese version sometimes. I can't remember all the examples, but some stuff that stuck out:
Iroha telling her friends that she is just thankful to her mother for giving birth to her was changed into her saying something about being healthy because she was born with great genes? That entirely misses the point that Iroha feels indebted to her mother, while not actually acknowledging anything but their most superficial connection.
Again, there is that scene where Iroha fights Mikado and he talks about how their Iroha should call their mother back for once and he goes on about how Iroha is always too conscienttious and runs away from her problems. In the dub for some reason he instead says that both Iroha and her mother are too bullheaded and always want to get their way, which is why they keep clashing. This entirely misses the point of the exchange, being that Iroha was always giving up her own desires and her mother getting mad at her for not standing up for herself as indicated by the childhood flashback where she yells at Iroha for giving up her role in the school play. Iroha is living on her own and covering her own expenses and trying to get into the best school exactly becuas she is trying to prove to her mother that she can reach her own goals... while actually still just trying to please her mother and running away. The reasons he never picks up her mother's calls is because she knows she would cave in immediately if she talked to her again. And yet she constantly realizes that she is becoming like her mother in several scenes.
When Iroha confronts Yachiyo, the latter ends her explanation with "I guess it would be wrong to call this a happy ending?", but in the English dub she says that it didn't go as planned, but they got their happy ending anyway, which is the exact opposite of the point.

I was just thinking how wild it is that netflix is specifically (at least in part) responsible for some of the most impressively yuri focused stories getting funded. Kaguya, Arcane and She-Ra are among my lifetime favorites now and I have to admit despite how much big companies suck this is basically the only production company that greenlights multimillion dollar yuri epics at the moment.
>>4521253
I noticed the subtitles and dubtitles were different immediately when I used a different release that didn't default to the subs. Not that anyone should need evidence that subs are the correct choice but the dub and its dubtitles clearly adlibbed some scenes and I can't imagine why they felt the need to do that since they would be working from a finalized script. I am hoping someone does proper subs and styles them for the songs so we can watch a more definitive release when the BD source is out.
>>
>>
>>4521267
Netflix's EN subtitles for the Japanese dub are 100% accurate, unlike the EN dub, so you don't need someone to do another sub.
Like all the scenes I complained about being wrong are actually accurate on the EN subs for any other dub. I don't understand why dubs keep changing the script (I saw the same happen on the French and German dubs), but I guess that's just never gonna change. I still really like the English covers of the songs though. It gives the movie some extra rewatch value (as if it didn't already beg you to watch it at least twice). I just recommend watching the Japanese dub with subs first.

Reading through Japanese discussion about the movie, it's kind of interesting to see how closely it tracks with ours. There's a lot of "Wait, this is yuri? How did this get made?" and comments with the same sentiments of "If this is yuri bait, then Your Name is het bait." A few call it gachi-yuri or do-yuri.
There were a few other comments I appreciated.
>This love triangle becomes a straight line if you change your perspective.
>A lesbian harem where she's not trash for two-timing, but for NOT two-timing.
>Iroha looks like a high-spec top, but some wicked lesbians have their sights set on her.
Several comments talk about how the in-universe Kaguya/IroP fans will be disillusioned when Iroha seems to move on to Yachiyo so quickly.
>>
>>
>>4521226
The clear intent of the scene is to prep the viewers for the direction of the story. Same with Iroha blankly rejecting a gift in the opening sequence, Iroha fighting off suitors, and other scenes like it. They reiterate the stark refusal of het at multiple points which further adds to how excellent the writers were.

I dunno how the in-universe shippers could tell unless Iroha started making out with Yachiyo in public. 10 years later they literally have the Kaguya revival concert and I am sure that after thar those two are pretty open about their relationship.
That does remind me though.... Because android Kaguya is being controlled by Yachiyo, there is no Kaguya VR version anymore. She cant go to Tsukuyomi without becoming Yachiyo again....
Unless she puts on a Kaguya model when she VR dives via that body? I think the pictures on the kitchen table post credits actually did not show Kaguya in the Tsukuyomi pics.

>in-universe Kaguya/IroP fans will be disillusioned when Iroha seems to move on to Yachiyo so quickly.
I also had this immediate thought when they showed the Yachiyo+Iroha mini concert at the start of the 10 year montage. Because from the PoV of a regular watcher, you had Iro-P whose entire thing was supporting and playing instrumentals for Kaguya, fighting to protect Kaguya from suitors, etc. And then what, like a week later? (the couple days of depression + the few days it took her to binge finish the song) after Kaguya seemingly graduates and quits being a streamer, she's now just Yachiyo's instrumentalist.
I would definitely think there had been some sort of drama or breakup behind the scenes, or that Iro-P and Kaguya hadn't been as close as they seemed and were just business yuri-ing.
>>
>>4521491
I mean with Kaguya completely disappearing from all social media they must assume that she got really sick or something or wanted to vanish from the public.
So Iro-P who already collabed with Yachiyo just continues her passion. Though I bet fans keep asking her what happened to Kaguya.

I ended up ordering each of the new books hoping to get the a store exclusive but even though they were still showing available it was apparently out of stock so I didn't get any of the cool bonuses. So I just ordered another set from a different store to hopefully get those bonuses instead and now I'll have two copies of each book. I looked at all the other merch and so far the very few unique items are in person exclusives or sold out. There are a lot of new acrylic stands coming out in 4+ months for some reason so we may be getting other new designs later this year.

Something interesting I noticed is that there are two scenes in which Kaguya's hair and eyes return to their natural muted color. One is when she takes care of sick Iroha. I assumed it was related to her mental state of being worried for Iroha to the point where ahe couldnt keep the vibrant facade.
That is kinda interesting because to me it implies that when she has to return to the moon she has genuinely made peace with it and she can stay positive.

By the way, I read Yachiyo can be read as "8000 years". Subtle.
It does put that exchange towards the end of the movie into context though.
Iroha: "How? How are you always smiling?"
Yachiyo: "Because I am Yachiyo."
I think with the name's meaning she is essentially saying her experiences over the last 8000 years have helpes her keep a smile. All the people she met who encouraged her and whose lives she's touched gave her strength. That's also why she seems wisee and milder in age.

It's interesting. While het romance and attraction are mostly treated as negative or a gag in the movie, its male characters are actually treated quite fairly. They are inoffensive or downright likable because they are supporting the plot and furthering character development without being villainized (I dont count the suitor war, that was just a funny gag montage).
I mean yeah, outside of Black Onyx you only got Iroha's homeroom teacher and her dead father as male figures, but even those two are good examples. Dad was enouraging Iroha's passion, while mom clashes with her. The homeroom teacher is supportive and actually seems to understand Iroha's troubles, but is not so involved that he tries to lecture on what path to choose.
I am totally fine with yuri ignoring the existence of males, but I think this movie showed how to integrate them properly. Family is generally also a lot safer than most other positions, so having big bro be the central male figure was smart. Making him very obviously not interested in Kaguya, but rather focus on his sister's troubles alao diffused most of the tension we otherwise would have had. I can totally see an alternate universe where they made him a genuine love rival and it would have sucked.

All those scenes put a historical spin on the bamboo cutter tale to tie it to real events, showing how people helped Yachiyo travel safely in time back to Iroha. The plane scene takes place after WW2 and the CIA was very active in international conflicts in that era so it is difficult to say which one they referenced from this single image. My best guess was that it is a reference to the "French Connection" which you probably heard of because it was turned into a relatively famous movie in the 70s. It was kind of a stylized movie and the way they showed the CIA guy makes this very likely the reference they used. It basically involved covert flights used to smuggle drugs and other things around the globe, and France was used as a main transit hub hence the name. Makes sense that she would need more sophisticated travel plans when navigating the globe in modern times to avoid being discovered.
>>4521657
Runami Yachiyo where Yachiyo is a poetic way of saying forever since it sounds like "8000 generations" or years and Runami is written with the kanji for Tsukimi which is moon viewing. Interpret the name as a poetic whole and it is 8000 years gazing at the moon. Such a clever movie in every respect.
>>
>>4521711
CIA guy is shown recovering the box with Kaguya's ship from some dark storage room. Since it's right after the post-World War II scene I get the feeling Kaguya lost the box in the chaos of war and got help finding it again. Maybe she even kept contact with the CIA and they assisted with the computer setup in exchange for whatever virtual tech she may develop? It's fun to think about.

I haven't updated my yuri age gap chart in years and thought this was the most righteous justification to revisit it. I used Iroha's pre-ending age since the majority of the movie takes place at that point in time.Yes I know some of the data points are missing for some series and it obviously isn't to scale or you wouldn't be able to read it
>>
>>
>>4521725Someone from 1900 traveling to 2000 without experiencing the time in between would not be a 100 year age gap, but Yachiyo traveled to 6000BC and aged 8000 years because time still flows linearly for her. A timeloop usually means that someone is reliving a smaller segment of time nonlinearly until the loop is broken, so 100 years of looping does not increment their age even though they experience additional time. It's a different phenomenon but I'd be happy to make exceptions and chart it with a different color if someone provided accurate sources for the data.
>>
>>4521730
Technically, being an entity trapped inside some kind of virtual reality also doesn't make you physically age, it's a mental kind of aging, and that's the same thing that happens with time loops where the characters are aware they are looping.
Ayaka said herself a few times during the story that at 16 years is like she's 80 years old because she experienced every day 5 times on average, and thenshe spent thousands of years trying to save Michiru.

Not yet. I'd expect Kadokawa will since they own the magazine that published the manga. Probably will get announced in the spring if I had to guess but it will be a long wait because translating stuff is always slow. The novel is a lower chance in general although it may happen since this has a higher visibility and budget than your average series. It is my most anticipated release since the novel has a different POV and thus new material.

No, the same entity (Kaguya/Yachiyo) is running the robot body and the Yachiyo avatar.
Kaguya was afraid that Iroha loved Yachiyo more, and Yachio thought she was an old woman who couldn't be who her younger self was to Iroha. But in the end Iroha recognizes that they're one and the same.

It's Yachiyo herself who dearly missed being Iroha's Kaguya, it's in all her song lyrics and shown by her deciding to take on Kaguya's appearance in Iroha's old apartment when telling her her story because it felt nostalgic to her. Iroha experimented with several bodies with the previous one being called YC Type, most likely standing for Yachiyo Type, but noted she was more compatible with the Kaguya body, implying once again that it's Kaguya's own wish. And the virtual Yachiyo still existing is necessary to run Tsukuyomi, she can't simply peace out and leave it unattended whenever android Kaguya isn't logged in. Please don't compare it to Xenoblade 2, Iroha is in a relationship with one person, not two oh wait let's make it three because fuck it we were feeling extra fetishistic that day.
>>
>>
>>4521734
This. It seems aging isn't really a thing on the moon. Or at least time is so dilated that Kaguya can do work for what is like 80 years on earth without aging a day. For all we know she has been stuck at her crappy job for centuries before she ran away the first time.

but it stills rubs me in the wrong way how the're suddenly trying to make it look like some kind of three way relationship just at the end, intentionally or not
like it's meant to be a love story between 2 people, couldn't they think of a less awkward way to portray it ? why are they showing us photos of the 2 Kaguya together with Iroha, both in real life and tsukuyomi ? am I supposed to think it's wholesome ?

I think visually it represents that Iroha has accepted both sides of Kaguya and that neither is invalid. The persona of Kaguya and the persona of Yachiyo both carry different meanings to the outside world, but to Iroha they are one and the same, her beloved.

It depends on the time loop in my opinion. Someone who loops the same day infinitely has very limited capacity to actually grow and age. There is not much you can do in a day. If the loop is shorter it's even more limited. What matters here is AGENCY. You need enough time to meaningfully interact with the world.
If you are looping your entire life? Yeah sure then that's actual mental aging.
Yachiyo's "loop" is not an actual loop from her perspective. She is just going in a straight line. That's why she is aging progressively. Homura is going through a big chunk of time between each loop depending on quickly things turn to shit, so she has a bit more wriggle room too.

>>4521819
Iroha loves Kaguya and Kaguya loves Iroha. They are the most textbook pure romantic display of fidelity imaginable. Their romance was so storied that it was literally written into legend. Kaguya's love and devotion are fabled through time because all manner of ancient peoples were in awe of it. Their story is not over, and now Iroha's dedication to protect their love is the first page of the new cute little doodle book of their life together. If you didn't digest Yachiyo's origin on the first watch you should sit with it longer or watch it again, because the movie is absolutely a new experience the second time around. Now every time I see a picture of Yachiyo, Kaguya and Iroha I only see two people in love.

I can't post the shot here, because this is /u/, but something people noticed is that Mikado actually cheats in the game. Like he is straight up hacking. He isnt using it during fair battles, but during the fight against the Lunarians a console pops up that shows he is raising his own stats aritificially. Also that scene where he recovers from damage is clearly him abusing the system. He is doing it to keep fighting for Iroha and Kaguya though, which is pretty cool.
Another instance is when he hacks the game so he can see Mami's username and call her directly as if he knows her. A neat trick for some yumebait boyband character I guess.
But it's interesting how Tsukuyomi is structured in a way where people can't just see usernames. Iroha could call herself IroP, because nobody knows her username unless she wants them to. Makes it feel a little more real when you gotta learn someone's name.
>>
>>4521940
They show the whole command prompt box with the hacking code if you want to stop and check it out. He eventually gets swatted by Tsukuyomi's cheat detection which is another hint that Yachiyo is guiding things along so that Kaguya gets taken back to the moon.
>>
>>
>>4521941
I interpreted it differently. I think Yachiyo allowed him to cheat, because she doesnt ban him even after the cheat console pops up. You never see him get defeated either, it's just too late when the Lunarians already reached Kaguya and stopped Iroha.
I agree to an extend that Yachiyo is not trying to stop the outcome, because she knows it is inevitable. She already displayed that she can actually fight and subdue any invaders into her realm with ease when they attacked during the first concert. She was clearly lying about not knowing how the Lunarians are hacking into Tsukuyomi too. She doesnt help at all during the final battle, which is a huge indicator that she doesn't see a point in it. But she lets Iroha and the others give it their best shot so that they feel like they did all they could instead of just rejecting their plans.
Ultimately if Yachiyo had blocked the Lunarians from Tsukuyomi (if that is even completely possible), they would have just destroyed its servers or wreaked havoc across Earth. This was the safest outcome.

Due to the fact that it can only be streamed on Netflix you dont really have conventional box office or anything to go by. A success here is mostly how often it was streamed. Which again, is a bit limited by only being on one platform and many people simply pirating it.
From Colorido's perspective they got the movie financed by Netflix and are getting very positivie reception and animator/musician spotlights so that is definitely a big success.
Kadokawa... I guess that depends on spin-off media and merch sales. We will see about that later.
>>
>>4521954
Well when he powered up his looks didnt change, but regardless of whether it was a new form, he was injured and then suddenly fully recovered. Would be a weird side effect for getting his cheats removed imo.
Either way it would be odd for Yachiyo to intervene that late into the fight when it was already hopeless.

>Iroha experimented with several bodies with the previous one being called YC Type, most likely standing for Yachiyo Type, but noted she was more compatible with the Kaguya body
I thought the same thing and it would make sense, because kaguya's soul seemed to rebirth in the exact same form she had on the moon, but Yachiyo's body is an avatar she created specifically for Tsukuyomi, where your form is doesn't matter too much. Of course in real life the Yachiyo body wouldn't be as compatible with her soul.

Maybe the YC type was just way too heavy, since we do have Kaguya remarking her Kaguyabot version is already heavy.
Much as Iroha would want to have sex with Yachiyo's likeness in real life, she knows she would die. Guess they're still stuck with virtual scissoring where Yachiyo's concerned.
>>
>>4521960
Which begs the question... now that Yachiyo has a body that she can also apparently log into Tsukuyomi with, can she sense touch in the VR space via the body? That is like 3 layers of convoluted, but it would be neat.

And you are too lazy to use a translator too it seems. Kaguya is responding to chat asking her to marry them. She says she is already marrying IroP so she can't. Iroha says she isn't against it, but clearly feels embarrassed about the public declaration.
Also a bunch of red superchats gets send right after (implying everyone is confratulating them on the wedding).

Can someone explain to me what the phone call with Iroha's mom was about just after kaguya got taken to the moon and she was about to finish her father's song? it seemed important, but I cant think of what the point of that was, other than showing Iroha being willing to talk to her mom again...

Yeah, I tried to give the English dub a watch to give myself less to focus on at once, but couldn't get through it. It's not awful, and some of the localization are well done, but it has some script issues. Iroha talks about her parents several times in a way that implies her father is still alive. I think they were trying to show that she wasn't sharing her family details with others, but it comes across as deliberately lying rather than just leaving out information. The proposal is also kind of flubbed. Iroha's response is less shy/embarrassed/happy and more a confused, "sure, I guess I'll live with you."

"A second-year high school student in the same class as Iroha. She loves makeup and fashion, and is also active as a beauty-focused influencer under the name “ROKA.”
She’s a striking beauty with a cheerful, sociable personality. She harbors special feelings toward Iroha, and even notices—and worries about—how she uses polite speech even toward others, but she hasn’t been able to take that feeling any further or act on it."

Roka definitely struck me as gay, but I felt it was more a general thing and less specific for Iroha. There is a lot of skinship between her and Mami in the background that made me think she was actually into her.

Honestly someone with good JP maybe can enlighten me, but I have read the LN and the guidebook seems to imply that they treat the bot Kaguya and Yachiyo as 2 distinct entities which kind of contradicts the LN. For the dialogues of what happened prior to the end you only have 1 Yachiyo waiting for her body discussing with Iroha. Then later they want to split her into 2 is ... a choice, I guess?

It's explicitly saying that they're living together and that neither Iroha nor her brother will have children. It lets you piece the rest together yourself. With all the "I love you"s it's 100x more explicit between Iroha and Kaguya.
>>
>>4522163
While a lot of Japanese viewers complained about it not being released in theaters, I saw some that pointed out how well it takes advantage of the streaming format. Not just the fakeout ending, and stuff you have to pause to read, but how it almost seems to be made with the expectation that you'll watch it twice (and more).
>>
>>
>>4522165

While the novel is indeed very gay it kinda went in a weird direction with Iroha's perception of Kaguya. It definitely can give the vibe/resemble a mother-daughter relationship, while Iroha is also simultaneously depicted as wanting to be/in a romantic romantic relationship with Yachiyo.
Given the guidebook and interview I can only say that was certainly a creative choice to combine both the emperor and the parents role into 1 with Iroha and will certainly raise some eyebrows from the average non /u JP fans of this when they contextualise everything and realize it essentially boils down to Iroha wanting to fuck her own 8000 year daughter.

Despite the clear intention, it felt moreso like sci-fi VRChat + the usual idealized depiction of MMO. Trying to stuff vtubers into a universe where anime girls are already real is always stupid, but when literally anyone can get a high quality custom VR avatar with zero effort, it becomes something else entirely.

>Come across the character PV
>The first thing Roka says is how cute Iroha is
I love how obvious it is, yet how oblivious most of us are toward her feeling for Iroha.
I also originally confused why the movie focus on Roka for a bit here, but now it is pretty clear because she has feeling for Iroha and this is one of Iroha big moment.

>>4522168
The movie doesn't really portray it that way and that's what 90% of people will exclusively interact with, so it's not gonna be a big deal. I haven't read the novel, but eh, it's kinda warranted a bit with her being the creator of Kaguya's body at least. Not that it makes the romance any worse for me.
>>
>>
>>4522177
Motehrfucker, do you constantly say you are dating when you are dating? This is just trolling at this point. They confessed and live together and won't have grandchildren. It's all excplicit. The fact that they arent married is because of Japan's stupid laws. They just acknowledged a side-character getting married, because that's what happened. It's not doing it to make the het more explicit.
>>
>>4522202
How? Does Kaguya mention her seething hatred for hetshitters? I just assumed this was some adaptation of the Bomboo Cutter myth where Kaguya marries the emperor and doesnt go back to the moon, which she considers a bad ending.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>4522272
That wasn't the point i was trying to make but I think the movie is consistent in that Iroha was indeed more infatuated with Yachiyo's appearance.
Also the first bot is still Kaguya's, Iroha just made many bot bodies along the way.
The novel also has some pretty interesting information about the moon, the nature of Lunarian, the 8000 years, why Yachiyo needs to "sleep" in Tsukuyomi.
Also did you know before the bots were made Iroha just let Yachiyo kinda control her body / they share sensory experience? That sure makes for some interesting schlicking times.
>>
>>4522295
>Also did you know before the bots were made Iroha just let Yachiyo kinda control her body / they share sensory experience?
I guess that explains that one shot of Mami having a helmet on that fries her brain... It was actually supposed to overlap senses?
But that's weird... in that case Yachiyo inside Iroha's body could have just eaten pancakes and tasted stuff early, making the exchange we see in the movie pointless?
>>
>>4522067
>限界でも平静を装うようすを気にかけていたが、踏み込めずにいた。
Sounds more like
>It always pained her to see Iroha acting like everything is fine even when it was clearly not the case, but she could never bring herself to say it out loud
Still gay though.
>>
>>
>>
>>4522298
The pancakes thing was handled like shit in general.
>that's it, I have to develop a cyberbody so Kaguya can eat pancakes among other things
>no compromises
>the body is made/revealed (not even the first one)
>taste still doesn't work
>movie ends with no more pancakes eaten
>>
>>
>>
>>4522307
That's far less extreme at least. Kinda explains why Yachiyo is visible in the final comeback concert scene. Iroha probably improved the VR contact lens tech to the point where you can perceive stuff from Tsukuyomi in reality. So everyone at the concert who wears the lenses can see Yachiyo on the real life stage.
>>
>>
>>4522306
It's just that if I am to believe it was an actual requirement, I'd like to at least see it pay off. Would have been a much better way to end it than the confusing live performance opener as if taken straight out of an idol anime. Maybe the MV will compensate, but being an MV I imagine it won't even have any dialogue.
>>
>>
>>4522322
Oh and might I add that in one of the pictures on the kitchen table at the appartment you can see kaguya drink soda. That implies she can taste by the point of the concert, so the pancake thing probably already happened.
Which makes sense, because the body we see in the lab is teenage Kaguya, but the body at the concert is an adult version of Kaguya (with insanely long hair).
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
The novel's version of Iroha's gay panic when Yachiyo talks to her personally after the concert is actually divine. She is so obssessed. She literally does a "Ka-waii-su-gi-ruuuu!!!" shout inside her head when she sees loli Yachiyo.

File: The many busts of Kaguya.jpg (3.6 MB)

>>4521580
Oh well, as we are overanalyzing every single part of this movie anyway, might as well talk about bust sizes.
So Kaguya is pretty flat, though by Japanese standards I guess this counts as a B cup.
What's interesting is that Kaguya gave herself a visible buff when she made her Yachiyo avatar.
And it seems that Iroha also buffed her a bit for her final adult version of Kaguya's body (though we have less shots to compare).
>>
>>4522392
On a side-note, I actually really like how utterly this movie avoids sexualizing the girls. They are barely showing off their bodies at all most of the time and they always wear shorts at home in the real world, never gratuitous pantyshots or anything.
The most sexual design is the doggirl announcer from the VR world with her gigantic cleavage and she clearly gave herself a hornybait design on purpose for popularity.
It's just really nice to see a movie that so clearly appeals to otaku and idol culture with zero creepiness.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>4522400
All it really takes is for someone to push Roka to actually get involved with Iroha properly instead of longing from the side-lines. Iroha is desperate for any kind of affections and solace and if Roka was a bit more pushy she can probably break iroha's evasive nature.
>>4522408
>her only chance is going the alluring idol route
Considering the epilogue said Roka became a make-up model or whatever, it's probably not too far off.
>>
>>4522392
Tbf to Iroha, I think to the public most would only know Kaguya as a person, so she would have to give her an aged body. Her lab colleagues and mother would probably have a lot of uncomfortable question had she introduced her 16 year old wife as well.

>>
>>4522442
Hot gyaru doesn't really capture the infinity dumbass engine that is Kaguya. They probably wanted cute rather than stylish. Though Iroha still calls her gyaru Kaguya for choosing to be blonde.
Also the bangle being a literal chain is just too on the nose...
>>
>>
Iroha's monologue right before the fakeout ending is a bit gayer.
>>
>>4522453
I think my favorite thing that the novel adds is how Iroha keeps calling her "my Kaguya". And not in response to finding out who Yachiyo is, no, she says this before that. "My Kaguya". It's so possessive and gay and I guess also a reference to her making a distinction between the myth and her girlfriend, but nevermind that part.
Also yeah she just straight up says here that even though she was often annoyed with Kaguya, she actually has loved her since the beginning. Black on white.
Okay, she used "suki", which can also just mean like, but come on.
>>
Hmm, now that the novel states that the story start around July, I feel a bit bothered by that. Kaguya leaves during the end of September or start of October, so they only got 3-4 months with each others. I really thought the story started around spring. Then they would have had at least half a year.
>>
>>
>>4522462
The movie is always really vague about how much time actually passes. And Iroha also wears her school uniform a lot even when there shouldn't be school, which just exacerbates the problem. I only know that summer break starts and that the Lunarians first appear on the day of the concert which is the middle of September.

No, you don't understand. Yamaha's Creation Store Popup collab with CPK was extended by over a week due to overwhelming popularity. Japanese companies HATE spontaneously changing schedules.
Also all merch is sold out everywhere.
This is popping off harder than almost any original work has in a while. And it doesnt even air in cinemas.

Reminder that the director pulled several high profile veteran animators from all over Japan and the world to work on this movie instead of their scheduled projects, which is why this movie is absolutely insane visually. That's the kind of pull only a One Punch Man season 1 has gotten in the last decade. And on top of that he got a huge chunk of the most prolific Vocaloid song writers and Honeyworks to collab on the movie. All the covers in the movie were made by the actual creators of the original songs. And ryo/supercell even wrote the movie's original theme song "EX Otogibanashi", which frankly, is the best song in the movie and his best work yet.

So Tsukuyomi has over 100 million users right? How does that stack up against the most popular online games today? Fortnite or whatever. I remember that it was a big deal when Marvel Rivals had like 20 million users around launch. Tsukuyomi itself having that many users is more believable when you remember that Kassen, the MOBA is just one part of its whole thing I guess. You get 20 million players who like that game and then a few million who just like the life sim aspect. And then there are Vtubers and music producers and stuff like that too with all their fans logging in just to interact and watch them? It's also international yet someone everyone speaks Japanese of course.

The best comparison would be a whole MMO platform like Roblox rather than a single game. Roblox has 150M daily active user and 380M monthly ones (unique account that log in at least once a month). Concurrent player peak so far is slightly under 50M.

You want the thing that doesn't work at all because of the Japanese law and doesn't actually mean anything other than that the government acknowledges you legally, instead of the thing that is easily achievable and emotionally and physically meaningful?
Marriage is completely overrated and won't enhance their relationship at all. But we never saw them kiss and that is a really strong expression of love that shows they progressed beyond handholding.
>>
>>
>>
Whoever noticed it is right, Akira is wearing a ring on his left ring finger (and no other anywhere else) during the ending. Noi keeps his left hand in his pocket the whole scene so we can't see if he has a matching one. Iroha's comment about Kaguya's marriage proposal not being legal is made in 2030, it's possible that it is legal by 2040.
>>

I'm probably going to cheer when it opens with them eating fluffy pancakes. I'm really hoping to see some of their domestic married life with new displays of physical affection like when she was combing her hair or sleeping together. I feel like we are maybe putting too many hopes on a single music video. It's what, 5 minutes at the absolute most? Music videos usually pass by very quickly. And unlike story driven MVs where a lot can happen quickly, this is just some SoL epilogue, so I can't imagine it being as dense as the movie. Imagine them wasting 2 minutes on random shots or transition animations.
Just tempering expectations is all.

He also cites Summer Wars as a comparison, which makes a lot of sense to be honest.
The most interesting part is the motivation behind making the story like this. He says that when characters change suddenly, at the author's convenience, it's really frustrating and makes him mad. But he thinks that a character who strongly changes over time is heartbreaking and sad, so that's how we ended up with Kaguya -> Yachiyo plotline.

The pace of the manga is rushed, but I think a few things are actually a little more fleshed out too, because they are said more directly rather than just being subtle visual information.
Some things I like about this chapter:
-Iroha is like 120% more gay for Yachiyo in this, which I didn't even think is possible
-The framing of Kaguya asking Iroha to play her music and her remembering her father saying music should be about having fun is way better here than in the movie. It really drives home that Kaguya is returning joy into Iroha's world
-I mean it's not important, but at least we learn big bro's name in this one. I don't think the movie ever revealed his real name
-The scene where Kaguya shouts that she will win the Yachiyo Cup conveys a bit better that it was all about being jealous and wanting Iroha's attention
In general I think if you just go with the flow of the fast paced events of the movie you might not question what the actual goal is and why it even happens. But the Yachiyo Cup is basically the crux of the movie and the ONLY reason Kaguya goes this hard at it is purely because she felt jealous when Iroha fawned over Yachiyo. It's always about Iroha.
>>
>>
What the heck was that... there was so much stuff in there that made no sense... like Kaguya hugging child Iroha? Or Kaguya in a school uniform going to school with everyone?
Also why did they dig up a Lunarian spaceship?? HUH?
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>4522952
I feel like at the very least the spaceship on the mountain is canon and has some kind of significance. Maybe... it's the first spaceship? The one she used to come to Earth the first time?
What if... they are using the tech from that intact spaceship to create a proper body for Kaguya the same way she did the first time?
But if that was the solution the whole robots angle would be pointless. So maybe they are just digging it up as a memento?

In the movie, the mountain scene where naked Kaguya was calling out for Yachiyo was depicted behind a cage if bamboo trees - the implication is that the 'mountain' (and everything else behind this bamboo wall) is within the spaceship, and not a real mountain.

Alright, I will compile everything that stood out to me and then go through them one by one...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=356MRZ6P5h0
-Iroha and Kaguya go to a mountain with a torii gate and dig up a Lunarian spaceship
-Some kind of summer/ocean themed live show with Iro/Kagu/Yachiyo
-Mami and Roka are wearing idol outfits/dance outfits so they actually got to participate in one of the live shows
-child Iroha is getting comforted by her mother when the dad was still around and she was a lot softer clearly (what is the sticker on Iroha's cheek about?)
-a bunch of scenes of Iroha's family when they were still happy
-Iroha writing chats to Yachiyo on stream/dms
-Kaguya looking out a window from the moon to Earth
-Kaguya in a school uniform with the other girls having fun at school
-Kaguya is at first jealous of Iroha liking Yachi's streams, but then eventually seems to make peace with it
-Yachiyo going through the ages showing even more historical moments she was involved with
-dream sequences that show Kaguya embracing crying child Iroha
-The scene where Yachiyo is embraced by Iroha shows Kaguya's old self being hugged instead
-A scene of Kaguya who traveled back in time seeing the destruction of war and despairing
-Some scenes of adult Iroha and kaguya living together at their appartment
-The threeway heart finger pose in all its finished glory

super interesting. i do believe the full sentence would be something along the lines of;
>回りくどくない

>私はかぐやを本当の意味で
>人間にします
granted, i don't know much japanese, especially kanji to really say so, but it makes sense with DeepL, despite obviously MTL having a possibility of being wrong.
I do think that the MV is basically implying what the above text says, iroha wants to make kaguya human in the truest sense of the word, so they go to find the unbroken ship that kaguya originally used at the start of the movie, and iroha will use that ship to try to make a real human, and like >>4522968 says, we're supposed to believe that she succeeds.
>>
>>
>>4522968
>For that it seems she needed to dig up the spaceship
Or that was just Iroha writing a scientific dissertation before she made the robot body, since there's constant flahbacks and flashforwads during the whole sequence, it might not even be related to the ship thing.

>Iroha and Kaguya go to a mountain with a torii gate and dig up a Lunarian spaceship
So yeah, this anon immediately hit the nail on the head >>4522956
Whether the "truly human" part is correct or not, they are most definitely digging up Kaguya's first spaceship, which symbolically landed on a mountain, which fits the bamboo cutter story with the last wishes to Kaguya by the Emperor being burned on the mountain alongside her gifts.
An alternate take to using the ship to recreate Kaguya's body is that they are burying Yachiyo's ship because it served its purpose now that Kaguya's soul was transfered into a proper body.
Notable about this scene is that Kaguya speaks in a soft and slow voice, similar to Yachiyo. This was something I was interested in from the start. Whether Kaguya would keep some of Yachiyo's mannerisms.
>>
>>4522981
>回りくどくsomething doesn't really add anything to the context
The meaning is pretty clear despite the cropping, she's writing something like "I'll stop beating around the bush and state my intentions clearly: I'm going to make Kaguya human."
She's probably writing some kind of professional report or record.

>An alternate take to using the ship to recreate Kaguya's body is that they are burying Yachiyo's ship because it served its purpose now that Kaguya's soul was transfered into a proper body.
This was my impression. I think the importance is the reason behind it. In the original, the emperor has the immortality elixir destroyed because it's useless: what good is eternal life without your true love? In this case, they can bury the ship because it's no longer needed, as they're finally together again as humans.
If this is the case I'm not sure how I feel about it, I was rooting for the eternal life together route.

>Some kind of summer/ocean themed live show with Iro/Kagu/Yachiyo
>Mami and Roka are wearing idol outfits/dance outfits so they actually got to participate in one of the live shows
I find this one a bit confounding, because Mami and Roka are with them at this ocean concert, but this is clearly adult Iroha and Kaguya, yet Mami has her normal hair instead of her short adult haircut. But this is inside Tsukuyomi, so maybe she just picked that hair. None of them are sporting animal ears so its definitely a restyling of their avatars after all.
>Kaguya in a school uniform with the other girls having fun at school
While we are at it, this scene also takes place in Tsukuyomi, so that explains why Kaguya can wear a school uniform and pretend to go to school
Considering this is high school Iroha, it's probably in the past.

>>4522984
This screenshot actually perfectly captures an important detail. Kaguya is weaing a phone around her neck with Yachiyo looking through the camera. Why is she doing this? I get that she is both in Tsukuyomi and the body, but is there any reason to bring both? Does she actually need a permanent online connection to move the body?
In that case if they were truly burying Yachiyo's spaceship, then who is controlling the Yachiyo avatar in the VR world? After all that thing was connected to the servers so Yachiyo could exist...

This scene is literally from the novel. Yachiyo reminices about seeing all kinds of wars and human horrors and that's one of the reasons she wanted to create Tsukuyomi, a fun world where nobody has to suffer.

I at first thought the final shot of Tsukuyomi with Yachiyo on all screens was meant to be her graduation stream, but there is no text and everyone is acting the same as usual, so I guess not.
Honestly, I am not convinced about the whole burying the spaceship thing myself.
>>
>>4523008
Uhm... what? Streaming to who? The fucking public? I don't think they are gonna reveal the whole Kaguya/Yachiyo/Alien thing.
And that would still imply that Kaguya is controlling the Yachiyo model to stream this in the first place.
>>
>>
>>4522995
They were never not one person. They only exist as "two" people prior to Kaguya's return to the moon because Yachiyo is overlapping what she's already done, and they only exist as two people afterwards because Yachiyo is able to split herself across copies as she does frequently during the movie.
>>4523003
>Which ship
There's only one ship in existence. The one Kaguya tried to use to return that got knocked off trajectory. The one she used the first time ship "landed successfully" (slammed itself into the power network and converted back into data where it had the energy to create a physical body for her). Which is what the "yachiyo" ship was also supposed to do, but it was damaged and only had enough energy to make Inudoge's Fushi body.
>>4523007
>how is Yachiyo around?
The same way that Yachiyo was constantly in multiple places throughout the movie. She can duplicate herself and be in two places at once.

Can anyone make out the full text here? It's something like Yachiyo comforting her about her mother?
>>
>>4523015
>The one she used the first time ship "landed successfully" (slammed itself into the power network and converted back into data where it had the energy to create a physical body for her)
Nope. You can see an energy beam coming from the sky which shoots into the electircal lines. The same way InuDoge was turned into a sealsug via energy. The ship itself is probably intact and landed somewhere else. Its trajectory was completely off for it to have landed on the powerline.
>She can duplicate herself and be in two places at once
This no longer applies if you believe Kaguya got a human body now. That ability was clearly something Yachiyo only could do because she had no physical body. If the ship gets buried and kaguya is human, then she can only have one normal avatar in Tsukuyomi. Yachiyo would cease to exist as we knew her.
>>
>>4522973
-Iroha writing chats to Yachiyo on stream/dms
Nice timing anon >>4523017
On that topic, this is also a reference to the novels. In the novels Iroha has inner monologue about how she used to constantly vent and ask for advice from Yachiyo on her streams/DMs.
In the novel she makes quite clear that Yachiyo is the only reason her mental health hasn't completely collapsed. It's nice that they are showing this off in the MV. It adds some depth to why Iroha is in love with Yachiyo.
>>
>>4523015
>There's only one ship in existence. The one Kaguya tried to use to return that got knocked off trajectory.
So they went and retrieved the ship from wherever it was stranded for 8000 years, then carried it by hand up a mountain, and buried it?
I suppose lunarians use light materials.
>The ship itself is probably intact and landed somewhere else.
Even if that's the case, isn't that ship kind of irrelevant?
The relevant ship would be the one that holds Yachiyo's memories/data.
>>
>>
>>4523022
>So they went and retrieved the ship from wherever it was stranded for 8000 years
No, Yachiyo's ship is in the appartment with all the severs... we already saw it in the movie anon.
>isnt that ship irrelevant
Unlike Yachiyo's ship it is fully functional and should still have the ability to creat a body with data/energy. So as long as they can somehow fuel it, in theory is could recreate Kaguya's body again, using the soul from Yachiyo's ship.
>>
>>4523020
>Nope. You can see an energy beam coming from the sky which shoots into the electircal lines
There's no reason to believe that isn't the actual ship hitting the power line head-on and converting into energy based on how the scene is animated.
>>
>>4523026
You are literally making this up though. The actual trail across the sky the ship took didnt go down like that, so you are speculating with less evidence than I do. To me it seems Kaguya shot her essence into the power lines from the descending ship.

Actually these seem to be two different scenes.
1. Iroha wears her everyday clothes while Kaguya wears Iroha's uniform.
2. In the Tsukuyomi version everyone wears school uniforms and Kaguya's is colored differently.
From this I conclude that the first scene takes place in the real world where Kaguya convinced Iroha to take her to her school once so she can pretend to be a student after classes were over.
The Tsukuyomi version is just them putting on school outfit skins in the game.
>>
>>
>>
>>4523067
>Yachiyo shouldnt exist in Tsukuyomi anymore after she gets uploaded into said body
>VR Yachiyo must be fully independent.
Dunno why you'd assume either of these things. All that happened was she now works exactly like Fushi, who exists in a physical body in a tank but also was able to remotely access and exist in digital space at the same time. There's no reason to assume they're now disconnected, the ship just became unnecessary after Iroha built a body capable of housing a person, Yachiyo/Kaguya otherwise continues as she was, but now able to interact with the world instead of being stuck in a tank.
>>
>>4523082
Really? I interpreted that as her Yachiyo expression. The softness of her eyes. You can imagine her speaking just like Yachiyo does, probably related to the whole burying the spaceship thing. Seemed like a serious convo to me.
>>
>>
>>4523067
>VR Yachiyo must be fully independent
After they got rid of the ship, I think VR Yachiyo will just be Kaguya's avatar when she streams or something, that's what they show immediately after.
Basically they got rid of the old "immortal" Yachiyo projected by the ship, in the same way in the story immortality was rejected by burning the elixir.
In a way, that makes Kaguya just a normal human.
>>
>>4523083
I think you misunderstand how Fushi works. The seaslug in the tank is just a seaslug now. The Fushi in Tsukuyomi is the uploaded data of InuDoge/Fushi. It is like an independent program now and the slug is just a slug.
I dont understand your logic. How can Yachiyo exist separately inside Tsukuyomi without Kaguyabot being constantly hooked up to the server?
>>
>>
>>
>>4523091
They are literally drinking tea, 3 meters apart. Maybe you are projecting a bit too much sexual tension here, when this is supposed to be a relaxed moment where Kaguya opens up about something and is interspersed with the "I want to make Kaguya fully human" and burying the spaceship on the mountain moments.
I think the mood is clearly about that important stuff, not banging.
>>
>>4523087
Issue number 1: Kaguya still has her Kaguya model in the live concert and they can still exist at the same time. Unless you suggest that they decided that there will be no more normal Kaguya appearances in Tsukuyomi, this will lead to its own cans of worms.
Issue 2: Tsukuyomi doesnt seem to be the kind of place that functions well with a constant moderator. Previously Yachiyo just went to sleep sometimes, but otherwise she was always online 24/7. Now Kaguya will be busy in the real world a lot. And is she really going to dedicate all this time to streaming still?
>>
I was kind of annoyed by the symbolic rejection of eternal life here. As a trope it usually feels like an attempt to cope with human mortality by rejecting what we can't have anyway. But thinking about it more, I kind of like the contrast between the symbol of immortality being unequivocally destroyed in the original story, and carefully buried here.
>>
>>4523096
>Kaguya still has her Kaguya model in the live concert
They bury the ship after the concert, you can see a picture from the concert in the first screenshot of >>4523001.
>is she really going to dedicate all this time to streaming still
Even if she doesn't, what's the issue?
She's just like any human now, she can graduate from streaming at any point.
>>
>>4523097
Ok, but Yachiyo suffered enough anon. She knows firsthand what immortality does to you. 8000 years of pain. She kept smiling because she knew she would meet Iroha again, but that's about it.
Unless they stuff Iroha's soul into an android body (which I very much doubt would work due to her not naving a digital soul like Kaguya), Kaguya would just outlive Iroha... and even if you said they somehow both will become immortal through the former method, I dont think they would want to outlive everyone and keep going forever.
>>
Something to consider:
>the original intent was to make a "cyborg" body, so it's safe to assume that's what we see at the end of the movie
>in the MV, she states she intends to make Kaguya truly human, supposedly meaning a different kind of body entirely
>burying the ship implies that's done
>but there's no indication they aged significantly after the ending, so they either:
>have aged, it just wasn't made clear
>achieved that soon after by utilizing the ship somehow and not just regular tech advancement
>are actually now both immortal
>are not burying it
>>
>>4523100
>you can see a picture from the concert in the first screenshot
No anon, I am talking about the summer/ocean concert from the MV. That is a different one that happens after the redebut concert in the movie.
>Even if she doesn't, what's the issue?
The issue is that Yachiyo will disappear from Tsukuyomi? The admin "AI" who is responsible for its success and who is one of its main appeals that keeps everything running and who gives people solace with her streams, which is one of Kaguya's main purposes in life since she made Tsukuyomi... you are telling me she would just drop all that and leave Tsukuyomi to someone else?
>>
>>4523089
>The seaslug in the tank is just a seaslug now
We watched it do the programming for the ship interface. It was never "just a seaslug" it was a physical approximation of a seaslug produced by the ship, like Kaguya was never just an ordinary human (e.g. could freely alter her appearance in the real world, or grow exponentially), but rather a near-digital existence that took on human form. How would this even work? It just transformed from hyperintelligent alien intelligence into an ordinary seaslug when it finished setting up the ship's network connection?
>How can Yachiyo exist separately inside Tsukuyomi without Kaguyabot being constantly hooked up to the server
How can she be in a cellphone when the cellphone isn't hooked up? Part of the ship's thing was not having power. It had to use Fushi as a secondary interface because it could not do anything in its damaged state. The new body isn't damaged. There's no reason to assume it was built with no capacity to remotely interface exactly like their smart contacts, cellphones, or the smart glasses we see are able to do via wifi or satellite or whatever more advanced method Fushi and the Lunar retrieval team were using.
>>4523096
>Now Kaguya will be busy in the real world a lot. And is she really going to dedicate all this time to streaming still?
She doesn't need to dedicate time. To begin with she was shown with the capacity to operate in multiple places doing multiple things all at once. It's not like she was hitting pause on all moderation or backend operation every time she went live as a streamer.
>>
>>4523102
Look at their heights here. There's no way this is Irohag.
>>
>>
>>4523104
>I am talking about the summer/ocean concert from the MV
And why would you think that takes place before the ship thing? It's much earlier in the MV, the burying is the last thing that happens chronologically.
>you are telling me she would just drop all that and leave Tsukuyomi to someone else
Growing up and leaving things behind is also part of being human.
>>
>>4523105
>We watched it do the programming for the ship interface
That was before Tsukuyomi was launched and Yachiyo left the seaslug behind anon. Fushi was Kaguya's medium to interact with the world. The moment she leaves that seaslug body, it's just a seaslug.
>How can she be in a cellphone when the cellphone isn't hooked up?
Are you stupid? Have you heard of the internet before?
No this is not the same thing. A phone being connected to the internet is easy. A supposedly now "human" body, not so much. When she logs off, Yachiyo would disappear. They cant act separately anymore after the ship is buried and Kaguya becomes human. That is the whole issue.
>She was shown operating multiple places at once
You dont get it anon. That was Yachiyo, a digital soul who was directly hooked to the server and could freely move inside Tsukuyomi. Kaguya with a human body can only log in like a normal human would. There is no reason to believe she can still mutliply.
>>
>>4523109
The MV starts with them going up the mountain to bury it, but leaving that aside, the MV is not being chronological to begin with... You have no way of telling when it actually gets buried.
And I see no reason to believe Kaguya would drop her Kaguya avatar permanently or the erase Yachiyo, when we literally still see Yachiyo stream in the same chain of events the is connected to the burying of the ship.
>>
As much as I like all the lore an interesting additions the MV gave, the lack of a kiss, marriage, couple rings or anything more explicit in animated form is kind of a downer.
Was I really expecting too much? The novel is as explicit as it gets and even the main movie is pretty clear about it, so I can't complain too much, but I just kinda want more.
>>
>>4523111
>You have no way of telling when it actually gets buried
Fair enough, but by the same principle you can't deny the theory by claiming one happened before the other.
>we literally still see Yachiyo stream
But we see her Live 2d version in Tsukuyomi, not her in-person avatar going around as usually was the case, so I'd assume that was just Kaguya streaming; maybe she explained the changes going forward to the Tsukuyomi people in that instance, since it's shown immediately after the ship sequence.
Anyway the point here is that normal humans don't have ageless digital alter egos, so that's why making Kaguya human in the true sense of the word was related to burying the ship and the parallel with the elixir of immortality, otherwise I can't explain it.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>4523119
This whole exlixir thing is kinda being overstated imo. The main part of the tale was that the emperor took ALL of Kaguya's gifts and his love letter to her and burned them on the top of Mount Fuji in hopes that the smoke would reach her on the moon. The elixir was not really the main focus.
I think the parallel is a bit tenuous.
>>
>>4523110
>The moment she leaves that seaslug body, it's just a seaslug.
Anon. It was never just a seaslug. It was a bizarre alien thing that the ship had the power to produce in the vague SHAPE of a seaslug. Seaslugs don't have a face and the anatomy to fucking speak, or hold onto sticks and draw things in the dirt. Nor was she IN the seaslug. She was in the ship, it was explicitly explained that InuDoge was put into the slug. InuDoge (as Fushi) then acted as an intermediary for her to interact with and experience the world.
>Have you heard of the internet before?
Yes, anon. That was my point. That the body can also connect to the internet just like any other device. Because:
>A supposedly now "human" body
>with a human body
She isn't a human. I don't know why people have latched onto this overly literal interpretation, but Iroha is a programmer and roboticist. She's not a literal fucking wizard who bought a Philosopher's Stone online and performed alchemy to conjure an actual, literal human body. She is in an artificial body because Iroha didn't suddenly turn into god between finishing the bot at the end of the Movie and burying the ship in the MV, so she didn't somehow gain the capacity to manifest human life out of nothing and also installed a digital intelligence into that blank human brain.
> a digital soul who was directly hooked to the server
Yes, and now that soul is housed in a robotic body that undoubtedly has the capacity to maintain connection to the server. There is no reason to believe she has lost her capability to be in two places at once, especially when the MV continues to have Iroha treat digital Yachiyo as an actual person, e.g. bringing her along on the hike, or watching video footage of their memories (why would you bring along some independent soulless copy whose purpose is just to run Tsukuyomi?) and continues to frame it as the THREE of them being together (see: the heart at the end) rather than treating Yachiyo separately.
>>
Okay, so I really only have two main questions at this point:
1. How the hell did Iroha make a Kaguya "a real human"
2. How does the Yachiyo situation in Tsukuyomi work
These two are essential, because until we know those none of this can really be explained. The phone with Yachiyo being there during the burying sequence makes everything even more complicated.
Maybe whatever android body Iroha created is actually organic to a degree, which would explain how it can function so well, but at that point its less robotics and more cloning and that's pretty nuts.
Assuming there are now a separate VR Yachiyo and Kaguya in real life... that would be the worst. Just after finally getting a new body you just create another Yachiyo who suffers without a body. I cannot accept that. So maybe the Yachiyo in Tsukuyomi is an actual AI now. It doesn't feel like that would be be beyond Kaguya's programming skills. Or maybe she really is just streaming as Yachiyo as her main job, but that seems also flawed.
Ugh... why cant we ever get straightforward answers?
>>
>>
>>4523124
No, you completely misunderstood everything about Fushi.
Inudoge was given a BODY because the ship only had enough juice to give one to it. Inudoge is not more sentient than an actual dog. It isnt sapient. Kaguya was REMOTE CONTROLLING Fushi via her soul. She is directly interacting and talking through it. Fushi without Kaguya's soul is just an animal.
Fushi is not actually talking for Kaguya, Kaguya is DIRECTLY talking through it. All the people she met and talked to were talking to her, not Fushi as its own entity.
The Fushi in Tsukuyomi is just a bundle of code that Yachiyo transfered. That Fushi is connected to her soul, that's why it can project her memories into Iroha's brain.
>she isn't a human
I dont understand the point of the whole thing then. If she is an android then nothing actually changed between the ending of the movie and this MV. What is even the point of showing Iroha saying she wants to make her a real human and then doing literally nothing to achieve that?
Have you considered that they could have restored the function of Yachiyo's ship to create a human body? After all its main issue was that it didnt have enough power. We dont know what the hell powers Lunarian tech, but I assume there is a way to repair/recharge it. That is one option.
>the body has the capacity to maintain connection
You are just making that up though. No reason to assume even as an android she is constantly connected. The more human Kaguya allegedly becomes, the less this kind of insanity would actually make sense. If they were gonna keep the status quo that way, she might as well have kept the ship hooked up.
>or watching video footage of their memories
That happened in the past. Kaguya and Iroha both have their high school era models.
What is the point of having Yachiyo and Kaguya both around in Tsukuyomi if they are the same person just copied, even in private rooms?
>>
>>4523127
If it is no longer necessary then it is just burying the past. It has emotional and sentimental value, not an actual purpose.

There haven't been three of them since Kaguya left in the movie though.
I think pic-related is actually the final outcome, Iroha x Kaguya-bot, while the final image with all three is just the main characters of the story, note that Iroha doesn't wear the bracelet in it.
>>4523132
>If it is no longer necessary then it is just burying the past.
But how does that relate to making Kaguya human?
And if it doesn't, what was the point of the pic in >>4522961, just some random scene?
>If Kaguya is still an android, then she will not stop being immortal just because she buries the ship.
Well, it's future science fiction, if Iroha can do tasting she might as well do aging.
I think what the MV was trying to sell is that Kaguya isn't just some AI android controlled by a digital coscience, she's someone like Iroha, who can spend a normal human life with her.
>>
>>4523139
We've been speculating about the android and its functions since the movie came out, but the ideas range from Iroha starting the human transcendence movement by letting everyone get android bodies instead of dying to just somehow Kaguyabot being able to live a normal lifespan, which seems... unlikely.
Like this anon said >>4523126
doesn't it feel like Kaguyabot is kind of organic? Just how sophisticated can the robot tech be to simulate all human bodily functions?
>>

>Iroha starting the human transcendence movement by letting everyone get android bodies instead of dying
>Kaguyabot being able to live a normal lifespan, which seems... unlikely
The first one seems much more farfetched to me, but what do I know.
>doesn't it feel like Kaguyabot is kind of organic?
The thing with science fiction, especially when it's pretty much just a plot device like in this story, is that you can't use logic to assume what's possible, it's there precisely because it allows things that normally wouldn't be.
We've already seen lunarian tech creating an organic baby body that aged in two days, I think we should let go of common sense with this one.

Space magic and human tech are not equatable in this movie. Iroha is using human tech to achieve her goal, so I am allowed to question it. Yachiyo obviously having some advanced knowledge of technology could of course have aided in this, but it still feels like Kaguyabot is pretty organic. Drooling, tasting and so on are extremely sophisticated brain functions that would be hard to simulate with something that doesnt even have a brain.
Also we know through the novel that Iroha first tried AR tech where she could see Yachiyo in the real world, though that is a far cry from actually having her in there. Seems she tried several things.

>No, you completely misunderstood everything about Fushi.
>The Fushi in Tsukuyomi is just a bundle of code that Yachiyo transfered
Anon. We literally watched Fushi actively defy Kaguya's will/instructions and it comments on Kaguya's mental state as a third party. It, on multiple occasions, acted in clear dissonance with Kaguya/Yachiyo. I am not the one misunderstanding what Fushi is. It is not a mouthpiece it is a secondary entity that acted as a go-between. There would be zero reason to say "InuDooge got transferred into the body" if it was just a body for Kaguya to speak through.
>What is even the point of showing Iroha saying she wants to make her a real human
People are just misunderstanding what qualifies as "real human". It is not about her being in a 100% authentic flesh and blood body. It is about giving her human experiences. Like the capability to taste and eat pancakes that was not yet obtainable when she "finished" the version of the body seen in the movie's ending. Or like the capability to have sex. It's about making her more real, not suddenly conjuring an actual human being.
>Have you considered that they could have restored the function of Yachiyo's ship to create a human body
????? So you think that the bot body being incapable of remote access to the rest of Yachiyo is implausible but now we are talking about utilizing a fixed ship to 3D print a normal human body, something it was never even shown as being able to do, because again, original Kaguya was very much NOT an ordinary human.
>You are just making that up though
I am operating on the assumption that the Kaguya = Yachiyo beat that the movie and MV just constantly hammer in is not being awkwardly completely undermined by introducing a poorly evidenced "actually they are not the same now they are separate people and we have zero idea who or what new!Yachiyo is, or what level of intelligence and self-awareness she has or how Iroha feels about her".
>>
For all intents and purposes, whether there's still an actual virtual Yachiyo AI going around in Tsukuyomi or not doesn't really change much considering this is the end of the story.
The director wrote:
>『超かぐや姫!』の「本当のハッピーエンド」の様子をお届けします。自分の短尺映像史上一番気に入ってます!
Basically, the MV is the happy ending, its core message is obviously that Iroha and Kaguya found a way to be together and happy ever after, which is all that matters.
>>
>>
>>4523156
>Fushi in Tsukuyomi acted on its own
Or maybe it's just Yachiyo's subconscious acting rogue. And anyway, like I said, VR Fushi is a program. It is sophisticated enough to talk and do things like project memories into Iroha's brain, but that's most likely because it is part of Yachiyo.
>it was not a mouthpiece, it was a secondary entity
It was fucking not. Yachiyo literally says it was her talking to those people and that she was speaking through the seaslug. Watch the movie again.
Inudoge did not get "transfered" into the body, she stated that the ship made a body for Indudoge, the comparately easier pile of code that could be turned into a small creature. Inudoge, who I remind you, is not sapient. It wouldnt have a personality, be able to talk or do anything VR Fushi does. Kaguya is the one in control who spoke.
>it's about making the android have human functions
Then there was no point to burying the ship. It would still contain Kaguya's soul and still be needed.
>original Kaguya was very much NOT an ordinary human
Aside from being able to alter her hair and skin color there is nothing that proves she wasn't a normal organic being. Her accelerated aging was just a side effect of her rebirth. Even the conversion of energy was actually considered, as the reason Kaguya was so hungry all the time at first was that she was burning through energy for her quick growth.
It is clear that by any metric, Iroha would consider the original Kaguya human enough.
>I am operating on the assumption that the Kaguya = Yachiyo
And nothing being argued here contradicts this by default. The question is how, not if.
>>
>>4523163
Core message or whatever, that doesn't really change that he put a bunch of vague, yet very specific information into the MV that had a purpose other than just showing they are happy. If he wanted that he could have actually just shown them dating, living together and making out. Instead he clearly followed up on the movie's ending and added more questions.
Let's not pretend otherwise.
>>
>>4523167
I'm not pretending anything, I'm also not a fan of vague symbolism and the likes.
I'm just saying that no matter how you interpret the details, the important part remains the same, it's not like whether this happy or not, or whether this is yuri or not, is hanging in the balance.

Yes, it's not in doubt that this is yuri or that this is a happy ending. Those things have been clear since the actual movie's ending.
But understanding what actually happened sure would be fucking nice, wouldn't it? And like some anons here suggest, the Yachiyo situation is a little precarious. A happy ending for Kaguyabot and Iroha does not necessarily mean a happy ending for everyone.
Like where the hell is Roka's girlfriend??
>>
>>4523170
>A happy ending for Kaguyabot and Iroha does not necessarily mean a happy ending for everyone.
But those two are the main characters, the story is about them.
Who are you worried about being unhappy, Roka?
Sure she and all side characters getting closure would've been nice, but that's splitting hair.
>>
>>4523174
Uh, I quite literally mentioned Yachiyo's situation being up in the air. That's a main character.
Also every side character got a happy ending already, except Roka! Why do only the lesbians suffer? This is outrageous, it's unfair. Give my make-up model gyaru gal her autistic girlfriend that looks suspiciously like Iroha!
>>
>>
>>
>>4523180
But anon, (old) Kaguya is Yachiyo, and this is a happy ending for her, so it automatically is for Yachiyo too, did you somehow interpret that she split into two personalities, one of which was left unhappy?
There's farfetched and then there's this.

>(though we have less shots to compare).
I think we can now confidently confirm that adult kaguya got a substantial upgrade. The real question is whether Kaguya begged her for bigger tits or if this was Iroha's own preference.
>>
>>
>>4523183
They buried the ship which housed Kaguya's soul, which implies the soul is fully transfered to Kaguyabot's body, which means she can no longer maintain the Yachiyo inside Tsukuyomi at all times, which means the fact that Yachiyo is still supposedly active by the end of the MV would suggest something is afoot.
I literally just told you all the possible theories. One of which also includes the possibility that she retired, which would probably be the least problematic.
>>
>>
>>4523166
>it's just Yachiyo's subconscious acting rogue\
>Yachiyo's subconscious actually dislikes InuDoge
>Yachiyo's subconscious calls Iroha a brat, or stupid and tells her it's hopeless
555-come-on-now
> she stated that the ship made a body for Indudoge
No, what she says is "同行してたInuDogeだけが体を得ました." i.e. Only InuDoge, her travelling companion, obtained a body". The story then also describes her as being able to interact with the world via the net despite being "just a soul", which she wouldn't be if she had a small working body she could interact with humans with, and talk with humans with AND FEEL HUMANS WITH, because if Fushi is just her then why would she turn off her working life-form body that can eat and feel Iroha's body warmth? It's just InuDoge, who likely got upgraded from "barky dog" to higher level being when it was translated into the Lunar existence and brought that upgrade with it.
>human aside from doing things that no human can do
>an organic being
Putting aside that you're now shifting goal posts from "human" to "anything organic", what then, was even the entire point of Iroha's plotline with regards to the body? Literally all Yachiyo had to do at any point was source enough of a power connection and repairs to have the ship do exactly what it did the first time.
>And nothing being argued here contradicts this by default.
I'm not talking about the basic premise where Yachiyo turned out to be Kaguya, anon. I am talking about how the ending becomes extremely unstable as soon as you approach the idea that post-robot-Yachiyo is somehow some other wholly independent existence distinct from Kaguya. All it does is pile up all sorts of questions and throw everything including the fundamental relationship's dynamic into doubt, when there is an occham's razor explanation that the movie outright explains 15 minutes in, and that is highly consistent throughout, that Yachiyo can make copies that are all just Yachiyo.

The theory comes from people noticing that when Yachiyo kisses Fushi in the MV, its ears and tail are glowing blue like those of human avatars (and notably Iroha's) are shown to do throughout the movie but never Fushi itself, not even in other scenes of the MV. In the top pic during the summer concert for instance, all human avatars' ears are glowing but not Fushi's. It seems like a meaningful distinction.
>>
>>4523189
Fushi is just acting grumpy/tsundere towards Inudoge for taking Yachiyo's attention. It's supposed to be an endearing character quirk that is programmed into it.
It also never called Iroha a brat. It called Kaguya a brat.
>only inudoge obtained a body
Stop pretending this is now what I said.
>she managed to interact despite just being a soul
Now you are acting retarded on purpose. She is refering to being able to have a humanoid body, being able to interact and touch people normally. Not being a weird seaslug that can barely do anything but talk. It's like remote controlling a drone. Do you feel anything your packge drone feels? You can attach a mic to it and move it however you want, but that isn't literally you.
>what was the point
The fact that Yachiyo didnt have the ability to actually work on her own ship is a pretty big factor here. Also we dont know what powers it or how easy it would be to recharge it. Maybe it feeds on lesbian sex, who the fuck knows?
>post-robot-Yachiyo is somehow some other wholly independent existence distinct from Kaguya
No they are both Kaguya, for fucks sake. The only question is whether the Yachiyo inside Tsukuyomi is still the same one. And there is absolutely no indicator she can still make copies of herself nor would it make sense if she truly transfered her soul completely into this body.
>>
>>4523190
Like I said, her being an actual AI is a possibility, but... that feels pretty bad. An AI could never replicate the real Yachiyo or what made her such a source of happiness for so many.
Also imagine how weird it would feel for Kaguya to log into VR and see a copy of herself that isnt even a real person act like her. Freaky.
>>
>>4523191
I did wonder why the hell Yachiyo was kissing Fushi. It seemed really odd and random in the MV: But why and how would this be Iroha?
Like I can see how they would want to sneak in an actual kiss, but they didn't even try to give it any context, so it's not very substantial.
Iroha's avatar in the game doesnt have blue ears or a blue tail. It only glows blue during the concert in the movie. The only blue thing about Iroha are the streaks in her hair. So if glowing is not required that would maybe overlap.
>>
>>4523194
>An AI could never replicate the real Yachiyo or what made her such a source of happiness for so many.
Then, too bad for those guys?
Though AI can already do crazy shit nowadays, so I doubt it couldn't entertain crowds in futuristic science fiction.
But the point stands that literally nothing indicates a whole new person was somehow created/split to become new-yachiyo, this argument is inconsequential.
>how weird it would feel for Kaguya to log into VR and see a copy of herself
It's literally like seeing her vtuber avatar animated and dubbed, you're worrying over nothing.
>>
>>
>>4523196
>But why and how would this be Iroha?
To do it in front of everyone in Tsukuyomi without them realizing.
>how
Yachiyo sets Fushi as Iroha's avatar for that session, same principle as Yachiyo inhabiting Fushi at times.
>>
>>4523197
>Though AI can already do crazy shit nowadays
Not it can't, because no actual AI has been created yet. Mediocre and shitty large language models or glorified image creation software arent actually intellgient. AI is not a thing yet.
>nothing indicates
I already told you exactly what indicates it, you just choose to ignore it.
>vtuber avatar
No. The real 3D person, acting like a person and making decisions.
>>
>>4523199
Why do you think they want to kiss in public? And if they wanted it so bad they could just publically start dating. Otherwise just kiss in their private rooms.
>Yachiyo sets Fushi as Iroha's avatar for that session
That is quite the stretch. We have no reason to believe actual people can just inhabit non-humanoid avatars. That would lead to so many issues with the haptic feedback and perspective...
>>
>>4523200
>AI is not a thing yet.
All the more reason to not doubt that actual (science-fictional) AI could easily provide light entertainment?
>I already told you exactly what indicates it
What? You mean with:
>the soul is fully transfered to Kaguyabot's body, which means she can no longer maintain the Yachiyo inside Tsukuyomi at all times, which means the fact that Yachiyo is still supposedly active by the end of the MV would suggest something is afoot
As I told you before, that's incredibly farfetched, there is nothing in the actual content that indicates a new person was somehow created, it's all in your head.
And even if that somehow was the case, this new magical person wouldn't be Kaguya, it would be a marginal character that barely even appeared.
Worrying about it getting its own happy ending is the realm of lunacy.
>>
>>4523193
Anon I am going to present three situations to you. Which of these sounds more narratively coherent and also fundamentally compatible with "a Happy End".
1) Kaguya transfers into a new body where she is disconnected from Tsukuyomi unless actively logged in like a human being. She makes an AI "Yachiyo" to continue to run things and stream. For some reason they inexplicably, bizarrely bring the placeholder who is not Kaguya (now disconnected) with them to important stuff for the two of them, like a very meaningful hike to bury the ship, or watching important memories, and they feel the need to include this placeholder in Kaguya's return to the stage rather Kaguya/Iro-P. The AI's sentience and continued role in their trio is unclear.
2) Kaguya transfers into a new body where she is disconnected from Tsukuyomi unless actively logged in like a human being. She makes a copy like she had the capacity to prior to this transfer, to act as Yachiyo. That copy now spends the rest of Iroha's (and/or Kaguya's) natural life in the perpetual torture of constantly watching her other self be able to actually experience things Iroha, and also watches Iroha slowly age up and eventually die while still stuck in the hell that the entire end of the movie was about escaping.
3) Kaguya transfers her core processing from the ship to a new artificial body equipped with wireless capability. She continues, as Yachiyo was shown doing the entire fucking movie, to be able to operate Tsukuyomi parallel with other stuff, which now includes Kaguya. Iroha and the two halves of Kaguya (now able to both live as Yachiyo and have human experiences with Iroha) hike to the top of Fuji and bury the now unnecessary ship as a sign of having overcome the hurdle of the botched time travel and found their happy end. Much like how the movie literally ended with Physical Kaguya, Iroha and disembodied Kaguya as a trio stepping onto their happy stage.
>>

>1)
You got basically everything wrong, which is quite impressive, even for someone as low IQ as you appear to be.
Everything I was talking about would happen AFTER they disconnect the ship from the servers, so the concerts, the interactions all the way up to burying the ship are all still the original Yachiyo.
Also I will tell you this only one more time, but them watching "memories together" was from before kaguya was taken back to the moon, dumbass.
And yes, the AI's role can be unclear, like almost everything in this MV: That is not an argument against it.
>2)
This is the whole thing I said would be pretty bad. The thing you basically suggest yourself, even if you are apparently too low IQ to understand your own implication.
>3)
That is not possible, because Kaguyabot is not connected directly to all the server infrastucture like the ship was. The android absolutely does not have that kind of processing power. Stop deluding yourself.
The movie ended with the trio, because the soul was still in the ship controlling both the physical body and the Yachiyo avatar.remotely.
You completely disregarded option 4-5. One of which is that Kaguya just logs in as Yachiyo and treats it as her day job or that Yachiyo retires as the owner of Tsukuyomi.

So, questions at the end everyone is waiting for answer
- Were Kaguya and Iroha digging up or burying the spaceship? Seems like the growing theory is that they were actually digging up a "real" spaceship from the Moon with the technology to truly make Kaguya human in the truest sense of the word, which was left behind by the Kaguya hime from folklore.
- What would happen to Yachiyo if Kaguya were to become human? Who pilot Yachiyo in Tsukuyomi, a copy of Kaguya's consciousness, shared consciouness or an AI imitation coded by Kaguya?
I do want to know the answer but honestly I'm content knowing they will grow old together and Kaguya will die as a human together with Iroha.
>>
>>4523220
>That is not possible, because I arbitrarily decided it couldn't be because then I would be wrong
>this android has the processing power to literally house a fucking fully sentient person with 8000 years of memories, but it couldn't POSSIBLY also connect to Tsukuyomi's servers and let that person do what they were doing beforehand
>it's tOtALly ImPoSsiBle for a remote, wireless connection to do what cables can do, even though Yachiyo was able to interface with the internet using 90s and 00s earth-sourced tech
lol, okay anon.
>you completely disregarded my made up extra options that are not indicated by anything at all
You're right. I also didn't include option 6 where the two friends take turn logging in as Yachiyo or option 7 where Kaguya's little sister from the moon drops by and becomes Yachiyo.
>>
>>4523240
>which was left behind by the Kaguya hime from folklore
That's absolutely stupid and misses the whole point of the movie. There was no original Kaguya. The myth started because of our Kaguya going back in time and telling her story.
They are digging a hole and burying the spaceship. You can literally see how it is placed inside a perfectl dug hole. If you dig something out it doesnt look like that.
>I'm content knowing they will grow old together and Kaguya will die as a human together with Iroha.
We have no actual proof for this either.

Eh, everyone would have agreed that they were burying the spaceship had the director didn't come out with his comment though.
His comment and the difference in Kaguya's spaceship (the one hooked to the server) and the one shown here made a lot of people swayed to the 2nd theory.
They are actually still debating that now.

I avoided the internet all day to avoid getting spoiled on the MV and just watched the movie for the 3rd time. It really is endlessly rewatchable and somehow keeps getting better every time. I notice more every time and their love story grips my heart every step of the way as though I never experienced it before. I sob heavy tears at their parting and happy tears at their reunion. It is perfect. There are so few things in this world that have ever taken me so completely. I wasn't expecting to actually get more in the MV but essence that they are happily together was delivered directly into my heart. I do like the pet theory that the fushi kiss was a standin for Iroha. Maybe we'll get lucky and this surge in popularity will free up another $50k needed to animate the MV for Melt and we can finally get to see them eat those fluffy, happy pancakes together.

Nothing the director says remotely implies your insane leap in logic to an original mythical Kaguya existing or this being her ship. What kind of sense would that make? You would think that Kaguya who experienced those 8000 years would have been aware of another Kaguya from the moon popping up and going through the same shit she did. She was literally there in history. It didn't happen.

The first days after the movie came out was unbelievably fun. Everyone was working together to share all the hidden details they found and were using clear references to identify how insane it was that every moment of the movie was dialed in on supporting Iroha and Kaguya's love. The commentary is starting to shift now that more people are aware this exists, and my guess is they only watched it once and are filling the gaps in their understanding with vibes instead. Simple to disprove with picture based evidence in almost every case and easy to ignore otherwise because it is so outlandish.

If we assume that this 姫 isn't supposed to just refer to Kaguya's copy, and that picrel is actually a reference to the classic Kaguya-hime (meaning that tale was NOT simply a warped interpretation of chou-Kaguya), the Fuji ship might be the original that got buried there after a failed attempt to destroy it (if there was such an attempt at all).
Also worth noting that while the ship in the MV might be too clean for something that was just unearthed, it also looks noticeably more intact than the one at the apartment.

But it's not the exact same thing. The original one got kicked out as punishment or just got sick of the same paperwork she had to deal with, formed attachments, and got picked up later on. Hardly a stretch that both would happen.
>There is no way you can tell anything like that
In this shot here it looks quite frayed, maybe not so much in >>4523418
But even if they repaired it, what need is there to return it to perfect condition? You have to remember it collided with a rock at high velocity.
Both theories are plausible, I'm just trying to make note of anything that might be significant instead of dismissing everything that doesn't add up in relation to one of them.
>>
>>4523418
We are also seeing the tank at a profile and the fuji angle is much more at a top down look so a 1 to 1 comparison isn't possible. To my eyes something that bounced off an asteroid would have significant and obvious physical damage so I take it to mean the the abilities were damaged more than anything.
>>
>>4523429
>But it's not the exact same thing.
No, it is basically the same thing, because it repeats the entire fucking plot. For what purpose? The Lunarians give literally ZERO hint that they would kick anyone out as "punishment", because that's clearly not how they work. The only reason they wanted Kaguya back in this movie is because she apparently served and essential function.
Who the fuck is this imaginary second kaguya you are conjuring up for no reason? Instead of throwing out random completely unsubstantiated theories that complicate everything for no reason, back your retardation up.
In the first place, and this is the most laughable part, you are basing this ENTIRE nonsene on a single image of a woman in a kimono staring at the moon, who is not in any way confirmed to be Kaguya and who might not even be an actual person, but just art of Japanese mythology in the first place.
Come on.
>what need is there to return it to peak condition
It was just suggested that they used it to make a new body. If that is not the case, then they just polished it to make it look better, which is not "restoring it to perfect condition".
>You have to remember it collided with a rock at high velocity.
And yet it seems perfectly intact from the outside. Just some scratches.
The depiction of the ship is incredibly inconsistent at all times in the movie. It also looks very different when it first lands on Earth and when it enters the atmosphere in the flashback.
>both theories are plausible
One is entirely made up with no actual evidence in the movie, so calling that "plasuible" is quite a stretch.
>>
>>4523439
The ship also can transform which is shown when it creates a sprout and forms fushi, so it is known not to be immutable. It is no surprise that the physical container of Kaguya would look all pichi pichi after all the VR sex they were having while waiting for kaguyabot to be built.
>>
>>4523439
>because it repeats the entire fucking plot
If it was the entire fucking plot we wouldn't be trying to figure out all this cryptic shit here. The original is a lot more simple.
>The Lunarians give literally ZERO hint that they would kick anyone out
That's in the original story, what hint do you need? Did they seem so friendly that they would never? I don't think so.
>Who the fuck is this imaginary second kaguya you are conjuring up for no reason?
Try reading. We still have no idea who this "hime" Kaguya built the ship with is supposed to be.
>a single image of a woman in a kimono staring at the moon
And why is she there? There may not be a reason, and it could be unrelated, but the excerpt I saw alongside this theory was
>七月十五日の月に出で居て、切せちに物思へる気色なり
>The depiction of the ship is incredibly inconsistent at all times in the movie.
Fine that's fair. The one in the MV is the cleanest one we've seen though, even shiny. Which can contradict either theory.

You have to put the fucking myth into context with this movie if you want to pretend it happened! The entire point of this whole movie is to give the story of Kaguyahime a happy ending. Would be fucking stupid to then say there was a second kaguya who went through the actual myth and didnt get a happy ending. Are you stupid?
>who this hime Kaguya build the ship with
This whole plot point doesn't exist.
>woman in kimono staring at moon in a flashback of Japanese history/mythology
Yes, what an insanely unusual concept that surely leads to only one ultra specific and conclusion... what was the point of showing the Samurai by the way? What super important purpose did he play and why was it important to show him? Did he help build the ship too?
The most obnoxious thing here is how you just act like this nonsense is actually just as plausible as things that actually are evidenced in the movie...

Is this something teachers do to grade schoolers if they fail or something? Sounds like mental abuse.
So is the context of her mom pointing out she wears earrrings and necklaces to make a joke about how the sticker could just be seen as an accessory? That's a pretty bad way to comfort a child. Not that it would surprise me from that woman.
I mean the whole thing about how she forced Iroha to either try to be competitively good at playing piano or giving up on it if she just wants to play for fun shows that she actually cares a lot about results. But if she used to take this kind of thing lightly, that might have just been a change once the father died.
Clearly Iroha is still affected by this anyway, hence her hiding in the closet. And then Kaguya appears to hug her, which symbolizes Kaguya's presence healing Iroha's childhood trauma of having to measure up to impossible standards.

In the cast interview the voice actresses said that in the scene where Yachiyo tells Iroha about her memories from the last 8000 years they actually recorded and entire conversation about fishing and preparing food. So what is getting fast forwarded in there is actualy real dialogue.

The rice porridge thing was only slightly sped up so you can totally understand when you slow it down. But the Yachiyo backstory part was fast forwarded so immensely and has several cuts between topics in it that it's not possible to restore. I think our only option would be if they uploaded the original recording.

>Piano Sonata No. 20 in G Major, Op. 49 No. 2: I. Allegro ma non troppo – II. Tempo di Menuetto.
I couldn't find anyone who looked into this so I clipped he piano song Iroha plays at school and fed it to a music recognition site to find it. An interesting parallel is that this sonata was never intended to be released because beethoven thought it wasn't good enough until his brother found them and published it. With how much thought went into every decision in this movie I thought this concept fit in nicely with the themes surrounding Iroha's songwriting. Her music class is right before the scene where Iroha hesitates to play piano again until Kaguya's happiness spurs her on, and of course there is the unfinished song she was composing with her father.
>>
>>4523531
Iroha wrote a bunch of songs for fun, but never felt good enough and stopped making music, so she does indeed view all her old songs as something that shouldnt be published.
Music class at school it the only time she feels like she allowed to play music without having expectations pushed on her and it makes her feel at ease... it's terrible how something so integral to Iroha was cut out of her life, because her mother made her feel incapable of continuing music if she doesnt strive for the top.
Kaguya just enjoys Iroha's music, which encourages her to play, but indirectly all of Iroha's songs become real and really popular thans to Kaguya.
And Kaguya even creates lyrics for the song she never finished with her father, so Iroha wouldn't feel the overwhelming pressure of having to finish it on her own.
It's beautiful.
>>
The vocal tracks are obviously all great, but I really need the rest of the soundtrack now. ESPECIALLY the track that plays during the flashback of Yachiyo's 8000 years experienced by Iroha. Those notes alone are actually making me tear up now. I think it is an instrumental remix of Reply?

Kaguya/Yachiyo chose the name Yachiyo herself, while Iroha gave her the name Kaguya. I'm not sure if this has any deeper meaning but it feels deliberate.
I missed this the first two times I watched, but after Mami passes out and Iroha tries to wake her up with food pics, Kaguya pockets the bun from the front of Mami's outfit. Later she feeds it to the sky serpent thing to tame it.
>>
>>4523688
Runami means moon viewing and Yachiyo means forever or 8000 generations so a poetic translation would be gazing at the moon for 8000 years. A very deliberate name someone would choose when making a username in the early internet.

Knocking the discs into a tower in kassen is like how Kaguya sniped the middle of Iroha's pancake stack. A stretch but the towers in the game were also super elaborate just like the tanoshii kingdom pose they did during fireworks. Tsukuyomi is shown to be literally shaped like a table set with a plate of stacked fluffy pancakes. Yachiyo's mascot chara is a flapjack octopus. And yet no pancakes in the MV. Here are some recs. We don't got a lot and it's mostly one-shots, but some authors here really capture either the profound feeling of the story or the fun hilarity of it.
8,000 years (and a bit of loose change)
https://archiveofourown.org/works/78519346
The spacing in this gives me cancer, but the way the awkwardness between IroKagu is expressed is really good.
Together Again
https://archiveofourown.org/works/78392006
This one makes an alternate ending where instead of going for robotics, Iroha recharges Kaguya's spaceship to create a new body with it. Aside from the fact that many people suggested this as a good alternative, it's also really tightly written.
Before The Happy Ending
https://archiveofourown.org/works/78706241
This one takes place somewhere in the 10 year timeskip before Iroha perfects the Kagubot. This one focuses way more on Yachiyo and Iroha, but still captures what makes her Kaguya. That first kiss is actually genius.
Eight thousand and Ninety Years (and not a second to waste)

The descriptions are interesting but I tried reading a couple and the prose knocked me out of continuing. Not getting the rush of seeing them again since they don't act or talk like they did in the movie so it feels like a random story with their names in it. Maybe it is partly because the voice acting was superb and nothing can ever replace that perfect delivery, but fanart at least can capture the essence of the character. I wish I could enjoy fics.
>>
>>4523928
Hm, well I can't claim that all of them manage to capture the characters perfectly, but I think some get pretty close. Try "Before The Happy Ending" maybe? It captures a few of the speech quirks at least. It's definitely the only one I've read that uses the "Yaccho" thing Yachiyo calls herself.
There is also AfterLive which I think captures the banter pretty well at least.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/78716511
We are too early for people to copy the novel's style yet, so they are adapting the movie's way of doing things, but that does not exactly translate perfectly to the written form. This is a very visuals and sound focused movie, more than scripting, so it's a tough act to follow. I'm just happy if a fanfic captures the personalities right and has some introspection that actually makes me feel something.

Not only do they sell CDs, they apparently like to also sell merch of fake CD jewel cases to use as a keychain which is one of the funnier things they decided to make available. I only still buy CDs for yuri and I mainly do it for the jacket art so I can have something on my shelf when there isn't enough other merch to satisfy. I have a few mega dust jackets which are super sized cover art from the CD. I was disappointed the single for Ex-Otogibanashi sold out of the extras it had before I had a chance to get it for example because I desperately want to put up artwork for this movie on my wall as soon as possible. They are definitely going to keep releasing new merch because of the popularity so I guess I just need to be patient.

The more I watch the movie the more I just really wish they had made a Yachiyo body instead of a Kaguya body. I feel like they are denying Kaguya's development by trying to make her look like her old self a bit. I also like the slightly more mature dynamic between Yachiyo and Iroha.
But well it's still Yachiyo in the body regardless. And ultimately that Kaguya body is what she is meant to look like. So I understand it logically, but it feels off.

Iroha would open a can of worms if she make Yachiyo body the final host. I guess the end goal of her research is to make avatar body anyway, but you need a "real" persona too, and it's way easier to pass Kaguya as a human by just giving her an aged up body. I imagine the tsukuyomi otakus would be in quite a stir to catch winds of the news that their beloved IroP, known to be devoted to Kaguya got herself a Yachiyo look alike wife.
And i mean you can see trace of Yachiyo in the Kaguya at the end so it's not like that part is lost.
>>
>>4523970
I don't even remotely understand how this logic works. Nobody knows Iroha in real life. And whether they see her hang out with Kaguya or Yachiyo in real life, it would immediately get her doxxed by association as everyone knows what real life Kaguya looks like, so it's not really making much of a difference.
>>
>>4523979
It's not an issue of Iroha getting doxxed. By the end Iroha is a famous scientist and performs concerts both in real life and VR. People seeing her with Kaguya irl is normal since as far as they know they're two regular women who log into Tsukuyomi with similar-looking avatars. If Kaguya had Yachiyo's body irl and someone spotted her with Iroha, it would definitely raise some questions starting from the nature of Yachiyo herself since officially she's just an AI idol and not a real person herself, to her (and Kaguya's) relationship to Iroha.
>>
>Hey, onii-san, I finished that taste sensor for Kaguya. Could you...Could you for spot me a few tens of millions of yen for something else for Kaguya too?
>What is it? Just something to help her feel a little more human. It would make both of us so happy.
>Bill of materials: self-lubricating faux-flesh duct, optional vibro-clitoris, iPS-capable internal incubator
>>
>>4523948
It's implied Iroha already tried making a Yachoyo body, but settled with the Kaguya body, saying something like "looks like the Kaguya body is a better fit than the YC (Yaccho) body after all." If we couple that with how Kaguya comments it's heavy perhaps the YC type was simply too heavy for Kaguya to move in.
>>
>>
>>4523987
I am quite certain that if her android tech got this far that there are certain groups that would INSTANTLY sponsor the development of that kind of tech.

And she didn't get the Yachiyo appearance to disguise herself from Iroha until Tsukuyomi existed which was probably 5-10 years before the movie begins. The change was internal first. The external was simply a natural response. Kaguya is Yachiyo now. She cant go back to being her old self. Too much happened and her priorities have changed. I think people overlook that while Kaguya will forever love Iroha and give her priority, Yachiyo cares deeply about people in general. Tsukuyomi exists to make people happym Yachiyo exists for the same reason. Iroha loves both sides of Kaguya, but it feels like giving Yachiyo the Kaguya looks is a step back that would make them regress.
Though I am not saying I hate the canon outcome. I love Kaguya and she deserves to be in the body that feels best for her. It just feels thematically wrong. If anything the "Kaguya revealed" straight hair down Yachiyo feels like the final stage she should have gotten.

I guess my only problem is that while I agree with your other statements on principle of being reasonable expectations for someone who spent eternity longing to meet their love again, I just don't see where this assumption is being made that Kaguya's appearance somehow represents that she gains or loses her lived experience. She was always Kaguya, and always Yachiyo. It is the same Kaguya. I could just as easily believe Yachiyo's form represents the Kaguya who was waiting without fulfillment, and Kaguya's final form adorned with a sun is her discarding the 8000 years gazing at the moon now that she has attained that awaited love. Anyway it is fun thinking about it.

>Oh, right, today is Thursday. My thoughts slowly returned to reality too. I worked about 5 days a week at a residential area hideaway café called “Bamboo Cafe”. It seemed to be even busier on Thursdays than the weekend.
It's honestly insane that Iroha works 5 days a week. That totally didnt come across in the movie.
>Mio-chan, who had just been taking her break, suddenly stood up. Mio Azuma-san started here just a month ago. She had a lot of enthusiasm, but not the skills to match it. She made a wide range of mistakes every day, from the small ones that would make you laugh a little to the big ones that would make your face pale.
This coworker kouhai only getting a single frame in the movie's introduction of Iroha's life is a tragedy. Mio-chan is so clearly harem member material. Iroha is sinful.
So in the movie Iroha went to school after the Kassen match, but in the LN she goes to work.

That is a speedrun into insanity record.

>The sun sinks low in the sky, and nighttime falls.
Yachiyo says this the first time they visit VR together. When they sing to each other at the end the sun sets and begins to rise, with the full light of day shining when she realizes she wants to be with Kaguya and has found what she wants to do. Really incredible how thoroughly they embedded mythological symbolism into the story just in an effort to reinforce their love story. I'd love to see the full storyboard and scribbled notes between the writing and animation teams explaining all these details.
>>
Something I'm still unclear on is how Kaguya's consciousness actually works in the end. Is she aware of her robot body and the Yachiyo avatar simultaneously, in the same way a human can use their right and left hands to do separate things at the same time? This seems at odds with Iroha writing about making her fully human, but maybe I'm taking that too literally, and instead it's more "capable of experiencing/doing anything a human can, and more".
I love the idea that the octopus is a sensory prototype, and even before the robot body was complete, Kaguya could feel Iroha hugging her while she streamed as Yachiyo.
>>
>>4524508
>consciousness
It makes the most sense that Kaguya's mind is controlling it. Imagine this is just like a puppet show. The puppet master can talk independently and also through the puppet in a different voice, but we are the audience who are seeing the illusion of two people.
>fully human
What human even means in the story's context in 2040 is too far outside of the information we are given since we already had to extract this concept from a single nearly context-free sentence in a few minute long MV that has no other information about it.
>octopus
The flapjack octopus clearly has a connection with Yachiyo since we can see it crying multiple times in the movie, either as a precursor to Yachiyo's own emotions spilling out or in conjunction with her actually crying. To me the idea she was hugging the octopus while testing out sensory feedback has too many strong foundations to be anything other than intentional. Same thing with the fushi kiss. They just hid everything they could think of in plain sight.

My assumption on the fully human thing is that Iroha develops an organic body that ages realistically for Kaguya. It wouldn't be feasible for simulating growth from childhood but it would work for the relatively more subtle changes one experiences from early adulthood on which Kaguya is starting from. It would probably be considered a huge waste of money by investors but no doubt Iroha can clear that hurdle.
Would Kaguya actually die along with that body's expiration if her soul was moved from the bamboo ship into it? I don't know, I'm not a lunarian biologist. I don't really want all the answers either, the way it ended is beautiful.

After reading this, I just couldn’t wait anymore, so I threw the whole novel into MTL. I really love Iroha when she’s in full fangirl mode.
>>
>>
>>4524530
I would rather not resort to MTL. The translation group seems pretty dedicated if how quickly the manga chapters got done is anything to go by. I'm used to waiting for chapter by chapter translations because of ShuuKura, so this isn't a problem. Also gives me something to look forward to.

If you cant get the girl, the mother who shares some looks and personality traits with her sure is the next best place to go... I just dont see this working from mom's direction.
It's especially bad if this only happens after the 10 year time skip, because by that point, Iroha's mom would be almost 50 if we are generous.and say she got Iroha at like 21-23.

Roka saying "I should switch teams" while tearing up after seeing Iroha and Kaguya do their special handshake and seeing Iroha laughing with Kaguya freely is sweet in the context of the movie. All this yayaing people are obsessing over now is making Roka out to be a dejected broken heart when we are shown the opposite of this in the movie with her being immediately in support with her hands over her heart hoping Kaguya will win the cup right after realizing Iroha is in love with Kaguya.
>>
>>4524567
Uhm, that wasn't Roka's line though. That was a random NPC lady who said she should switch trams. Roka was already team Kaguya from the start, unlike Mami.
I agree that she is incredibly supportive of Kaguya and doesn't seem to be against her relationship with Iroha. But you can't help imagine that it still hurts her, even if she is happy for Iroha.
>>
>>
Iroha's mom announcing to her parents she's finally dating someone again over a decade since her husband's death and it's a girl her daughter's age, while they're still reeling from both their grandchildren being gay.

>>4524577
Anon... are you stupid? It's not her fucking voice. And there is a crowd shot where several randos talk to each other beforehand. It's just a random woman in the crowd saying she should switch teams. Roka is covering her mouth while tearing up. There is zero indication she is talking and the voice didnt even shake from crying.
The very first part of this not being Roka's voice already disproves your claim, I just added the rest for clarity.

I’m not sure how accurate this is since I’m reading it through MTL butthe grandparents are actually from Iroha’s father’s side and they aren’t even related to her by blood since her father was adopted into the family. Her mother is basically a superwoman who was abandoned by her parents and still had to go to uni while raising FOUR younger siblings. The fanbook also mentions that she’s a lawyer, which explains a lot about Iroha’s first career choice.
>>
>>4524663
It's not that surprising that mom turned out the way she did with life giving her nothing but pain despite working harder than anyone. And it's also not shocking Iroha developed a complex about not measuring up to super-mom.

I was thinking it would be fun to make an unofficial guidebook that goes through the whole movie and points out every hidden detail. The only problem is I already watched the movie so many times and I don't have unlimited free time to keep watching it every day.
>>
I've been struggling to find anything else to do that isn't kaguya related, but as I was reading yuri oneshots and browsing for things to fill the void I stumbled on Maitsuki Niwatsuki Ooyatsuki (Monthly/With Garden/With Landlord) and it really soothes that feeling of distance I had from not having watched the movie in over 24 hours. The MC of the series have a lot of similarities and the setup is even very familiar in a surprising number of ways. Definitely worth a look on its own merits even if you don't want a distraction from thinking about how much you miss seeing iroha and kaguya.

If you like the sci fi theme, I’d recommend Last and First Idol. It’s about a girl obsessed with becoming an idol who ends up taking her own life after her dreams fall apart. Her best friend who’s in love with her steals her brain to bring her back. She managed to pulls it off, but it takes 50 years and by then Earth has become unlivable due to a global catastrophe. It's even crazier than Kaguya.

I think it's really funny how most of the Chink fanfics are about Mikado/Noi BL stuff. Something the movie didn't even really hint at and you need to go through the whole novel to find out about. Fujos are crazy.
Anyway, patiently waiting for the Roka/Iroha's mom fanfic, which is much more reasonable.

I really like how it tries to imitate a video sharing platform like Youtube. Obviously the Vtuber angle is pretty strong. I actually prefer the term "Liver" used by the Japs, even if that just looks like liver (body part). Though I guess the sub's translation of "streamer" is equally neutral and good.

They also said a few days ago that they realized the stock on merch was too low and to expect news in a few days on restock information so it could just be about that. The lack of a teaser hype countdown like they did for ray's MV makes it less likely to be a bigger surprise although I do hope it is something huge.

I'm European and I bulk-ordered the LN, guidebook, manga and an unrelated book on Amazon, shipping and import came up to a reasonable 23€. Even if I added one more copy of each that fee would've remained almost or entirely unchanged due to the size of the packages not increasing. Did you accidentally make separate orders for each?
>>
>>4524850
I don't think they'd do an announcement of an announcement just for info on restocks. They didn't for the guidebook reprint a few days ago. At least it could be an announcement for new merch alongside restocks, but it's interesting that it will happen at the same time of day as the Ray MV.

They'll finally release the deleted files of future Iroha and Kaguya eating pancakes.
>>
>>
>>4524915
I didn't expect pancakes would gain the power to make me cry. Chances aren't that high they are going to spend money just to animate lovey-dovey epilogue content but I'd be happy enough if they released one or two official artworks from the character designer with Iroha happily feeding Kaguya pancakes or some other post-ending cuddling. The movie is one of the most satisfying experiences imaginable already so there is really nothing they should add story-wise.

It occurred to me that you could draw some parallels between Kaguya-hime and the ending of G-Witch. Miorine and Iroha both end up developing robotics/cyborg technology, and both Suletta/Eri and Kaguya/Yachiyo are different types of sci-fi twins with one half having a digital existence.
The stories' moral senses feels somewhat similar too, which might be why I like their endings so much. There's something really heartwarming and inspiring to see the protagonist buck the typical "correct" or "natural" story ending in favor of what they really want. In Kaguya-hime it's obvious with Iroha rejecting the the cliche fake-out ending and the Kaguya myth ending, and in G-Witch we have Suletta's "greed" in wanting herself, Miorine, Prospera, and Eri to be a family together, while in a most stories a character like Prospera would be punished for the hubris of trying to resurrect Eri.

>8000 years yearning to be with Iroha again
>"Ok now I'm going to become mortal so we can both die in like 80"
Wouldn't you at least want like 200ish years together or something?
She invented robots you can upload your soul into why would you not take advantage of that and stay together longer?
>>
>>4524778
I've been meaning to read that. I'll make time to give it a try since I am finding thematically similar stories are helping give me more context to see Kaguya's story in new ways. Particularly for idol culture which I had next to no exposure to or interest in before now.
>>4524948
There is nothing new under the moon. Just goes to show how strong storyboard/animation/writing/actingcan elevate a story into an unforgettable one even though it uses common story elements and a similar narrative structure. It helps that kaguya has an unreal amount of intricate detail layered into everything too.
>>
>>4524971
There is no telling whether actual humans can really transfer into androids yet. Kaguya is a very special case with a disembodied digital soul, so it makes sense that she can be uploaded into a robot.
They kinda hinted at the research possibly leading into human transcendence eventually with Noi asking for a body of his game avatar, but that's about it.
Also many people dislike the idea of outliving all their loved ones over and over. Unless they turn everyone into androids it kinda sucks.
>>
>>4524976
Idol culture is less relevant to CPK than Vtuber/streamer subculture of it. They have similarities, but are very distinct. CPK is not about traditional idols, which is one of the reasons its good. Actual idol culture is 10 times more cancerous than even Vtuberslop.
>>
>>4524982
Noi's line kinda does imply they can do it for everyone, and at the point everyone is an immortal android the one downside of immortality ceases to be.
They don't have to live forever but I think a little more time together isn't some sin against nature, especially when Kaguya already comes from a race of immortal aliens.
>>
>>4524971
We know their story ends happily with them together and that is all that really matters. We will never find out what that looks like another 10 years after the ending let alone 100 or more. The technological advancements in 2040 were already nearing the point where it is indistinguishable from magic, even while ignoring that alien tech exists. Being able to make a functional replica body with any level of organic matter would irrefutably prove that the hurdles we currently encounter in modern medicine were already surpassed. Iroha's work probably pushed all of humanity to better and longer lives. Humans can live to 115 with luck so with that level of tech it would surpass it. I personally think the movie's ending cannot exist without transhumanism also existing to some degree as a result, but it doesn't really matter one way or the other because we already see they are living their happily ever after.
>>
>>4524987
I dont think that line implies that at all, just that he wants that. Whether that's feasible or not is a different matter.
>if everyone is an android
First of all this requires the human body to die, so you are basically killing yourself to become a robot, which most people find disgusting and absurd. Secondly, being a machine clearly will make you lose some of your humanity. Kaguya was never human so she has a different perspective and honestly the alternative is being a digital ghost, so this was the best outcome (or maybe whatever they did to make her "human" in the Ray MV is the best option idk).
Thirdly, there is no way they have the ressources to turn all humans into androids. And do androids even have the capacity to reproduce? You would basically put all of humanity into stasis and end the birth of new generations. If you actually made their lifespan limited then, you basically just got humanity extincted.
There is a reason physical transcendence is such a debated topic in sci-fi.
>>
>>
>>
>>4524990
Yeah fair enough I guess, I don't think the movie's ending can exist without transhumanism either but JP is extremely "NO EXTENDING LIFESPAN BAD" about this shit so I worry they're just gonna be dead in less than a hundred years.
>>
>>4525003
It's pretty clear from the MV that making kaguya human is the happy ending. So yeah, they want it to be normal, not weird android live-forever shit.
Medicine, robotics, prothesis etc. already increase human lifespans immensely. You dont need to become an android to use machines to live longer. This tech is way more useful to make long lived cyborgs than magically transforming all humanity into androids.

It's actually implied she does in the movie, in the slideshow sequence at the beginning when she starts the day till she finishes her job for the day and says how it's finally the weekend and she can actually get 6 whole hours of sleep, till the part where she is listening to Remember.
