Just marathoned this kino across multiple sessions over the last week. What did I think of it? I missed the threads when it came out so talk about it again please. Tell me cool stuff I might have missed. I got 2 of the 4 offerings right. Tried to mess around a bit but couldn't get the video tape right and didn't find the negatives for the camera. Probably won't bother. I had enough fun with it.

I've only done the crossword ending and then went back to get the bad ending. I should get back into this game

I find this game very emotionally moving despite how funny it is. It's like undertale for heteros or something.

Fun game, great characters and setting. Plus some novel mechanics that really spice up the tired old RPGmaker formula well
Great game, hope his next kino is as good

Is there anything that's very time sensitive. i.e. only shows up on certain floors in the first few days or something?
>>
>>732191172
You should do the 4 correct offerings ending, it's the best one imo. For the tape you have to use something that reacts to being shown the visitor to find the right feed.
>>732193673
Saving Ernest and the blackout are the only things time sensitive I think (it doesn't depend on specific days though).

I just had a little breakdown. I tried to get the Final True Ending once, didn´t work for some reason (Visitor just disintegrated me). Had everything prepared, had collected all four right offerings, played through Massacre Princess Catholicon, attacked the visitor and waited for the stamina cost for Meteor Strike to drop, but Bam! Disintegrated before it happened Then read that I had to actually first talk to each one of the astronomers and choose the "Kill Visitor" dialogue, so reloaded my last save and talked to each, only for Asters dialogue to glitch out and his option not reappearing! So I said fuck it, started a new game, made sure to follow each of the steps beat princess, talk to astronomers, beat exalted four but still a huge disintegrating Fuck ME get disintegrated by visitor. Even tried to attack visitor with regular weapon / guard so that I did not accidentally skip dialogue that might prevent the line being said that could reduce the stamina cost but still nothing!

look outside is a literal free game you can download right now on his itchio, thats what gets me
>>
>>732203809
He's supposedly been working on that for a decade, and the way he got Look Outside done so fast was that he pilfered a lot of art from it to use in LO trying to get the game out as past as possible after the success of the game jam version
>>
>>732208478
The only actual Malison assets in the game are the Glitchworld enemies/tiles added well after release.
>>
>>732208478
>He's supposedly been working on that for a decade
Despite that it looks like he has no real clear idea on what he wants it to be, which is a bit worrying. Along with art assets that should've been made already being made now.
>>732208627
I am in favour of devs reusing the ever loving fuck out of assets, but theres a lot of assets from other games he's made too just put in the game. Mostly smaller items, but it's not just from Malison.

Hey guys look at this cool picture I took of the outside!
>>
>>732191172
The ending sequence for this game is so, so fucking good. Unreal how satisfying that payoff is for a game that teases you for hours about not looking outside.
>Only game ever to make the "it's beautiful" cosmic horror trope actually pay off so hard that you agree with it
>Exposure is a god tier song
>The reactions of the Astronomers both if they get it right, and if they don't
>The rainbow eye focusing on you as the clouds clear is sick as fuck
>Getting 5 questions out of a huge list to both answer plot questions while still making the player feel like they aren't getting the whole story
>"Why am I still human" and its response, probably the most memorable part of the game
>Fuck with the player by giving them the worst ending at the last possible second if they try and gain even more knowledge about the Visitor that they should really know better than to try and learn
Every individual piece of the game is actually pretty unimpressive. The OST is very hit or miss, the gameplay has zero innovation to RPGMaker JRPGs, the characters do not have nearly enough dialogue or reactions, the horror elements basically vanish at the halfway point, the game has very little animation, and the survival elements don't really matter much. But altogether, man what a game.
It's funny to say, but I think this has to be the best cosmic horror game. Doesn't adhere to the genre 'rules' very well, but I can't think of anything else that competes.
>>
>>732222153
>the survival elements don't really matter much
I used to wonder why I would never get hungry after cooking a few meals, then I watched the bug fixing streams and found that the hunger value was cumulative. And the hygiene stat as it stands is useless. The upcoming patch is taking these into account thankfully.
>>
Assuming there's no ritual, I know what Sam knows before the endings which is that the Visitor will leave in 15 days, and it's pretty clear the world is fucked anyways from Charan dialogue:

OP here. Went back and did all 4 offerings. Looked at the visitor's true form. Was able to do the final boss even though Astor was my 4th member so I only had 3 for the final fight. It was actually cool in the flawed ritual ending where Astor comes and joins you mid fight in his mutated form. Cool game.
>>
>>732221431
I would turn into something cool like Aster, Lyle, Tristan, or Jasper AND retain my sanity because I'm built different.
>>
>>732231278
He can also do it during the Mask ending, which I think is a lot more kino for him to do it in. Since those rituals were fated to fail no matter what, and he's joining the final stand despite you purposefully fucking him over.
I think it's something that should've been exclusive to that fight, but it's neat nonetheless.

I haven't done the mask ending yet, (waiting for another update for another full playthrough for that), do you fight their monster forms in that ending? They have cool designs on the wiki but when you give them the false offerings they transform, but you don't fight them. I think only Jasper shows his monster form if you attack him, but I never attacked the others.
>>
>>732231965
Yes, the Mask Ending consists of fighting all four Astronomers in sequence as you fuck them over then the final boss
>>
>>732232034
Okay cool, just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything. When I did the flawed ritual ending, Beryl transformed but it wouldn't let me fight her, but wanted to be sure.
>>
>>732231791
They're such dorks and Sybil trying to get you to befriend Jasper, despite being able to say fuck that guy a million times is so sweet and funny.
Sybil is why their lives are shit, and she should feel bad
>>
I tried to get an all-in-one-save playthrough where I got all ritual endings and the strange offerings while also using the latest companions, Aster and Phillippe
Regret that. Aster and Philippe are very mediocre and trying to blitz your way through Landlord, the basement, and the garage before day 6 to talk to Charan while also dodging most enemies to feed to Aster and Phillippe when you get them later SUCKED.
>>
>>732232290
That's disappointing to hear, Phillippe's design is awesome. How's the Spider? Is he worth getting?
I missed Joel and Leigh on my first playthrough since I was playing blind, and need a 4th.
>>
>>732232253
>They're such dorks
One of my favorite things is that when you meet Sybil, she's wearing a fucking three wolf moon shirt. It makes the characters so much more endearing and cool when they're clearly a bunch of dweebs, losers, and hobbyists. They're just doing great and dangerous things because even these people know what duty and responsibility is.
>It's Sybil's fault
There's no way it's Sybil's fault. If any person on earth at any point ever happened to glimpse the shadow of the Visitor, the same thing would have happened. If anything, it was a blessing that Sybil was the first person to find the Visitor, because it meant that nobody else would have had time to research what it was. Presumably, if Sybil didn't see the visitor, the Unity ending would have happened somewhere else, triggered by someone who lured and researched the Visitor and didn't turn into what Sybil did to forget that knowledge.

>>
>>732232527
>Spider
Never got him. Fighting shadows is cringe as fuck, because to find them you need to play for a long time without saving, and they can OTK your team by status raping you.
>Phillippe's design is awesome
Tragically, he's 2.0 content, which means his dialogue is a lot more...Undertale-y than it should be. And he's very strong at one thing, which is molesting bosses to death with statuses. But because Spore Burst is RNG and slow, he's fucking useless against anything that's not a final boss or near it. And he's always frustrating to play, hence the image on this post >>732207992
The ways to make Phillippe actually strong involve using his eat-a-downed-ally-for-stats ability on benchwarmers every day, but that's tedious so I never bothered. Supposedly his suicide bomb is bugged and doesn't kill him sometimes, so you can use him like Bad Lategame Joel that way, but I never tried it.
>I need a 4th
You also missed Ernest, who you likely didn't even know was a permanent companion.
Your options at this point are Roaches, Aster, and RNG door companions. You can savescum the door events. Just whenever you save the game, play video games for 2-4 hours to test to see who shows up at your door, if anyone. If no one shows up, just reload your save and use those 2-4 hours to actually explore the building.
>But you said Aster was mediocre
He is, but thankfully he's an adult with only his chest slot taken up, which means you can force him into being effective by giving him guns and gun gear.
>>
>>732232836
Because he's the only one who thought he saw it. The others never even attempted to look, just read what Sybil gave them.
>>
>>732232290
I did that and all bosses, it's possible but incredibly tight. Phillippe is an excellent boss killer, shit for anything else. Aster is a mediocre buff slave with shitty equipment you can't get rid of, really worsening his viability, but not bad for crit focused characters.
If you don't have a good 4th slot they are actually really good options since they learn their best skills early and straight up don't need anything else.

All the stuff for the Unity ending is so fucking good. You'd think explaining the mystery would ruin the impact but it was so well done it only adds to the horror
>>
>>732233229
People actually did hate the "power of imagination" endings (Unity and the Anime one). Maybe a minority, but it was hated on here when the update launched.
>>
>>732232918
>Tragically, he's 2.0 content, which means his dialogue is a lot more...Undertale-y than it should be

The only part that felt like this for me was the Promise ending, seemed like Frankie and Co. felt obligated to put an unequivocally "good" ending in the game. There's still plenty of fucked up stuff in 2.0, like picking up ambrose. Phillippe would've been much darker if Frankie went with his initial plan to let you give him brain damage until he believed he was really Phillippe. That would've basically required writing two companions and being in denial about Phillippe was pretty niche at the time.
>>
>>732233326
I think you're confused, Unity is the ending where you find out the truth about the visitor and get an immediate ending
>>
>>732233326
>>732233229
Case in point, I really fucking hate Unity and I do think it ruins it because it just makes no fucking sense. TC I don't care about since it's so retarded, I just hate how it's 3 different achievements at once and a slog to do
>>
>>732233229
>Unity retroactively makes the Perfect Ritual more interesting because it turns a simple 'have mercy on us, big powerful being!' plot into something that's simultaneously earnest and bullshit
The only bad things I have to say about the endings are that
1. Perfect Ritual Denial is way, way too positive as-is and way, way too unsatisfying if the 'both Perfect Ritual endings are identical' theory is believed
2. Unity Ending is too good to end when it does. It should have had you go up to the roof as the building melts around you to confront the Visitor before/as everything unifies
As for 2., I agree with the people who wanted the Unity ending to be you reading the note to the Exalted Four
>>
>>732191172
This game made me realize that my mind will die before my body does
>>
>>732233352
Frankie leaned too hard into his text manipulation stuff (changing font sizes, forced text speeds, etc) and it makes the game read like a tumblr post.
I rolled my eyes hard at the line It is correct. in the Unity ending because the way it was presented made me read it like how retarded freak shows write "IT. BROKE. ME."
>>
>>732233450
I know, people were upset that it factors off of your perception or imagination. As soon as you read the paper, you perceive what your reading as the truth, and then your cells "remember" and melt. The part about Jasper also feeds into it, because he didn't see it, he just believed it so hard that he infected himself just by imagining it.
>>
>>732233570
>Unity ending to be you reading the note to the Exalted Four

I'd like this one if only to lead to an alternative for Denial and Promise for a good ending that's more alien and strange, like maybe it results in Earth still melting but instead of unification, it becomes a tiny New Visitor that sets off into eternity.
>>
>>732221431
Life observing itself through itself is the ultimate monster. In CSM the most brutal devil would be a mirror. You're only able to stop the Visitor by making it feel bad. I want this game to be talked about in psychology classes.
>>
>>732233352
>There's still plenty of fucked up stuff in 2.0
That was so over the top I couldn't take it seriously. Every second is a million years, bro, one million? If he said 100 years it would be more disturbing, like that he just seemed like a whiner.
>>
>>732233849
what a convoluted means of dismissing lore you don't like
>>
>>732234013
Hey dont look at me, thats what some people argued. I thought it was cool to use the Visitor's reality warping against it. I mean the Anime ending was a huge joke, but it was a funny way of showing how a completely insane anime/vidyafag overpowered a god.
>>
>>732233352
In a perfect world, Phillippe would have three routes. The one currently in the game, which is roleplaying an idiot that thinks the evil Phillippe is an injured good guy. The second would be what he considered, making him believe he's the injured good guy Phillippe. The third would be you both knowing that he's not a good guy, you're just holding a gun to his head and making him behave because you want/need his help in the apartment complex.
That's too much to ask given this game has woefully underwritten companion content.
>>
>>732234297
Also, despite not even writing them Frankie said that he would never do that because the average player wouldnt find that stuff anyways so theres no point in adding it

The anime one is weird in how people treat it as canon and I dislike it since I could almost see a more grounded way that it could play out that isn't just earth getting annihilated. Be it simply showing another character's perspective on that ending or some further mutation caused by the visitor's agitation altering its perception of earth.

>>732234673
Unity has the issue that it is such a short sequence and it doesn't do more with it
Like have it so you assimilate the apartment in game or something like spreading and
Yeah RPGM can't pull that off easily can it?
>>
>>732232547
Promise is canon to me, jives the most with the themes of the game. You get rewarded for being kind when possible, but there's still things you definitely shouldn't do or know. You can't really stumble into any bad ending except failed ritual. You have to go out of your way to be a giant troll or asshole either by giving the gerbil to them knowing it won't end well, or entering Sybil's apartment and attacking her first.

IMO the game needed the 2.0 content. All the new endings feel a lot more definitive. Promise, Unity, and Mask are the most interesting.
>>

>>732234869

>>732234869
What got me was how many different things can happen. It's not marketed as a game with a lot of choices, but a blind playthrough for each person will be radically different.

I only found out on the 4th playthrough that there's a second rat merchant.
>>
>>732234869
Allow me to help you out. There are two bamboozles
1. It's a horror game
the game will start out as a horror game. it will maintain the cool cosmic horror theme, but it will not even really try to be scary or unnerving
2. The gameplay
It's a standard RPGmaker JRPG. It's not bad, but don't assume that it's some kind of transcendental JRPG and that's why people like it.
>>
>>732234863
>>732234964
I wonder if anyone legitimately got Mask as their first ending in a blind playthrough. It's basically a Gamefaqs ending with how obscure it is. There are at least some people who got Unity on the first go because of the Meat World tease if you exit Apartment 31 with the lights out.
>>
>>732235087
There's no way. Having to clear 80% of the building's floor plan by day 6 for Charan is hard enough to do without trying intentionally, but you also need to ACE Shadow's questline which is something most players probably fuck up on the first interaction with food.
Elevator game, Unlabeled Cartridge, and the hidden Landlord room are just barely within the realm of possibility for someone to stumble upon. The Rose part? Impossible.

The JRPG aspect I felt the weakest aspect, which is why the focus on the cursed difficulty mode over fleshing out incomplete concepts annoys the hell out of me. Henderson's apartment being a warzone was annoying as it focused on combat mechanics instead of the spooky. I get Absurd spooky is kinda the point like Wilma's crossword stuff was like creepshow macabre humor. But I feel like I'm fighting Simpson characters at times. And cursed just adds difficulty by forcing item hunts on you to have party members and making tedious fights mandatory.

The game's weakest aspect is GF and Basement, which together put both barrels into the game's tone. It's a short area, but after playing through it twice I think I actually despise the Fungal Lair. The entire area gives me BAD Undertale vibes and it's so out of place.
The finale and the 2.0 Meat World do some Herculean heavy lifting when it comes to the back 60% of the game's atmosphere and tone.

Macabre comedy is a hard balance, some stuff stays in that range but other things seem to just break it. The rafta and nestor subplot is kinda what feels like the tempo of neutral NPC interaction should be for the most part. Basement's neutral area was pointless. The GF area's fish and chips place could probably be modified to be less safe in some way as it's a bar-like place anyways.

I played through the whole game, did the all the ritual endings with only 2 party members: the janitor and the little girl. Fusing consumption that specializes assimilated into parts seems like a common motif.
sybil's note retroactively makes it make a lot of sense why that is come to think of it, the cells and particles want to re-unite bodies and this war between the ego of individuality and the underlying drive of uniting back to one is what is secretly going on.

Cursed basically are an embodied identity crisis caused by their matter contorted between the ego identity and the collective matter of being visitor, unity canonizes the concept of the latter and ends that identity crisis. The ego identity winning out in other endings due to getting the visitor to recognize you as separate from it. No ending to cause the visitor to fragment by convincing the visitor it was always many exists, but I feel like this in theory also would be possible to do if it works as an identity crisis resolution.

>>732241653
The infinite seeming scale of the visitor vs the compounding replication of a rapid spreading virus
>>
>>732241960
I'm imagining a case of a sort of reverse-memetic that manages to affect the Visitor, who zero-sums into becoming a part of the world and every living being, compressing its fractal infinity into that tiny space, effectively making everyone a cosmic-level nightmare as our collective fractured identities and selves subsumes the Visitor's.
>>
I think if they just want to keep buffing xin amon they should just go and make it a full on hopeless boss fight with endless guinea pig spawns
>>
at first i couldn't understand why the guy who did the additional music tracks used an anonymous pseudonym (noncollision obj) but having now listened to the soundtrack 200 times in a row i can deff see why. he's not even bad at what he does but cboyardee's stuff mogs so insanely hard basically all of his tracks sound ass in comparison. very noble of him to agree to contribute knowing basically no matter what he does he's gonna end up with the 10 worst tracks on the OST. i think simmer is my favourite one he did (boiler demon boss fight), it would literally be a high tier highlight in any other game but in look outside it's completely middle of the pack.

also i think vacant is the star of the entire OST and one of the best video game songs of the past decade. it blows my mind how it's just the safe place motif slowed down and inverted and it turns an already amazing track into a masterpiece.
>>
I want an ending where We fascinate the Visitor too much, and it decides to stick around. Retaining individuality because the truth isn't known, the whole thing doesn't 'blow over' after 15 days. Any survivors are forced outside eventually, turning Earth into a Scorn-like flesh-randomizer 'ecosystem'.

In practice this is if the Rooftop was Earth, always and forever.
>>
>>732207295
Sam being lenient with a grotesque-looking stalker would make Lyle love him more. Now, Phillippe being cooed at despite being a complete asshole, that might bring about some animosity.
>>
>>732242510
>Vacant
Broken Promise is easily the best song on the OST, but I'd argue the 'star of the OST' is Exposure considering how important it is to selling the finale.
>>
>>732242558
That'd be cool if there was a route to dial up the cultism to the point where crazed worship overtakes all else which provokes a God-response from the Visitor
>>
>>732242679
For me personally, the trinity of Exposure / Gaze / Vertigo overwhelms all other song contenders, it really makes an enormous difference when the composer understands how a finale should sound
>>
Anything but aberrations as the best theme is wrong
>>
>>732242679
>broken promise

that's top 5 for me so i wouldn't disagree

>exposure

huge moment in game for sure but individually as a track i'd put lots of stuff ahead of it (outside the window, zalmoxis, safe place etc). vacant for me is also unlike anything else on the OST so it's really striking not just in how good it is but how different it is from everything else AND its basically just a remix of an existing track.
>>
The start of look outside also is pretty good as it almost makes you think it just does a zombie infestation thing (and looking outside doesn't show much of what happens to Sam, it's easy to assume it just killed him violently) with the early cursed you fight only to then hit you with the onlooker's freakier mutations and then the less grounded cursed designs after that.

yeah it does a good job of both showing you the exact truth and whole of the situation from the start you hear a familiar voice calling you up (Unity), the immediate imagery of Sybil's singular eye, your own eyes and body being sucked up if you look, the first mutations you encounter all being themed around vision and eyes, the rare event of cutting yourself open and looking back to see yourself (another Unity hint), and then just like a fractal, which is the game's entire theme, it all starts to expand and gain infinite complexity)

Which is why this ending would have a lot more legwork, in order to do what Sybil couldn't, by so strongly establishing a sense of self despite knowing you're the Visitor that you can bring all these revelations to light and have a more final resolution. >Perfect Ritual affected the visitor
Every single ending that involves the Visitor boils down to basically begging it to leave, which it was going to anyway.
The "Perfect Ritual" doesn't even really work, the only reason anything good or bad happens in that ending is because of Sam's mutation, which we have no indication the Visitor actually intended. In Denial and Truth alike the only real effect of the ritual was just making the Visitor agree to not come back, which is not having power over the Visitor or taking power away from it. That's eliciting pity.
>But what about Promise
Functionally, almost identical to Perfect Ritual Denial, the only difference is that the person who begged the Visitor to leave was someone who was more capable to help people than a benevolent Sam afterwards: a sane Exalted Four.

No.
>>
>>732247195
Okay well they deserve it since they have a million threads here at all times, while this game is literally the same 10 people post every single time. So a thread on /vg/ just doesn't make sense since it'll die and if not it'll be pathetic like the gen /twst/ where it's one retard bumping it over and over again until they get a crumb of content. So with /vrpg/ It actually fits there and has a chance to not archive if it goes 10 hours without a post

It'll be obvious if someone wants to discuss Toby shit they can go to /vg/, no reason for 500 threads here. Same goes for any other gacha shit but especially uma

Sam learns how to scream electricity from a video game, and we know light was leaking in from his window. He may have been mutating without realizing it.
>>
>>732247936
I think that's implicit in the sense that Sam is special from the start, so he's not so much mutated without realizing it as he is special without realizing it, allowing him to do superhuman things without actually changing until the endings.
>>
>>732247776
Why can't it just be about exploring and dealing with monsters, the best part of the game.
It's like saying Pointless, Hopeful, Doles, Death Drive, Entropy, or Vegaful were no good despite never having an actual connection to Buddy herself or Brad.
It's a very interesting setting with lots of potential just going off of how other survivors are dealing with the new life.

It should follow someone else who definitely does not save/doom the world. Maybe go in the exact opposite direction of the original and play as a cursed whose building gets destroyed and is forced outside. Or someone who's visiting a theme park or a hotel when it happens. Maybe you're trapped on a cruise ship, and the outer decks only become available once a massive sea monster swallows the boat. There's a million places you could take a concept like this.

You know the best part? After everything we saw in the apartments, it's immediately obvious that the world is now infinitely larger than it was before. Next most logical step is in the rural/suburban america
Those small towns that are maybe 3 blocks long that you drive through on the highway would be perfect. Be someone living in one of the somewhat distant developed subdivision caught out while swimming or some shit and you crawl up and down the roadway, both the developed town and the lonesome backroads, slowly reclaiming the whole place and trying to help out the normal people stuck inside a 1000 sq ft building for 15 days.

It occurred to me LO doesn't have any central evil antagonist. The visitor is a phenomena/oblivious, the astronomers are not framed as evil cultists, the shadow is creepy but it is hard to see them as evil, I don't think even they realized what would happen in the mask ending. There are apartments with a central villain figure in them at times like Facetaker or Henderson etc. but there is a clear motif of the cursed being tormented by their mutation and what they have become rather than reveling in the power of it. And amazingly there isnt really anyone who can fit the bill to be elevated to one. Jasper is just not kinda pathetic, even their cursed form is a goofy noodle thing that tries to be scary but just is too goofy in practice (even on the roof top I think Aurelius has the most fucked up form of the four). Sybil I guess but they too are a tragic figure who isnt really hostile to you unless you try to learn about something that would doom the world.

>>

>>
>>732258952
Was the ritual not just complete bullshit? I assumed the 'ritual' consisted of just the depictions of the Visitor, and the ritual circle and all that was only really to get its attention so they could show it the depictions.
>You don't all transform immediately
For the Astronomers, I figured the delays in their transformations were because their bodies were covered and it was cloudy, and them transforming on the spot if the ritual fails is a gameplay contrivance. In the 'correct' version of the ending, the Astronomers mutate IMMEDIATELY upon clearing the clouds and drawing the gaze of the Visitor.
Sam's mutation delaying until he defeats the Exalted Four isn't a ritual effect, it's just dumb luck.

Did I miss something?
>>
>>732259301
some psychological mutation delay maybe
but like sam not mutating on the spot was strange
I guess they didnt want to deal with how to handle getting more arms every 4 turns or so
>>
>>732259301
Everyone seemed to mutate pretty much instantly, given the bus crashes and whatnot.
Sam is fine in Promise, and Beryl said the ritual seemed to be working. They mutate into completely different things if they're given the wrong materials, so it must've been doing something.
>>
>>732259746
Strange as I think the Promise having Sam get a weaker mutation that doesnt overtake the planet (like shadow but without time travel I guess) but still having a retained sanity would fit the motif of that route.
Delayed mutation maybe shadow related but it doesnt help for shit with the windows or visitor images.
>>
>>732259301
They thought it should do something, so it did
but the cloud cover probably helped too
>>
>>732259751
>Sam is fine in promise
another reason I dislike that ending
>Must have been doing something
I would assume the knowledge and intent of them being in a ritual and trying to commune together influenced their mutation into a unified being once the Visitor got a look at them, but at this point it's just fanfiction and conjecture, so who knows.
>>
>>732259912
Well the Visitor was looking at the ritual, and Sam just happened to be there. They basically called their attention to themselves. Sam only gets a really quick glimpse of an eye, then when the Exalted Four are on screen, it's all white. Sam got maybe a second or two of exposure when it wouldn't have been looking at him. If he mutated it didn't get too bad.

I always thought it was them realizing that they've got the wrong offerings, assuming that the ritual's failed as a result, and then that assumption (like how Jasper already mutated due to the placebo effect) along with the panic causes them to be affected by the Visitor. And in the case of the mask offerings, assuming Sam gave them such blatantly incorrect offerings on purpose, and immediately trying to kill him for fucking everyone over.

I love Promise. To me it's the canon ending. Whole game is about empathy for the freaks whenever possible. One of the only Golden type endings I like actually.
>>
Flawed ritual sam failing to keep sane (implied anyways) makes sense because he mutated while sulking in the failure to properly do the ritual, some parts being right aside. Promise ending had a successful ritual but didn't meet the visitor directly, this still should lead to a mutation by all logic. Keeping sanity, sure, but not avoiding mutation entirely.
>>
>>732259931
Yeah Jasper was already Cursed and they can sort of make things happen with their environment. Never thought of that angle actually.
>>
>>732260420
Even without jasper, Sam is able to play an incredibly shit movie game and that gives him the ability to become immune to being set on fire, ernest can play songs that outright kill people, sophie finds mini black hole marbles, everyone is kind of a reality warper to some extent now
>>
>>732259751
It's not stated if he mutated in Promise, he could have extra eyes and arms or something
>>
>>732260590
Yeah you're right. I guess it makes sense it wouldn't focus on it. You get that ending by being kind to mutated weirdos, so why should it matter if Sam also grew eyes on his asshole or something.

Maybe he turned into Cat Sam or a Rat like the Child. I guess it shouldn't really matter, should it? He didn't meet the visitor himself so he'd just mutate into some "normal" freak like Leigh or Lyle or the rats or something.
>>
>>732260590
Some people grow lots of eyes
Others grow lots of arms
Sam seems to grow lots of arms
>>
>>732260815
Some people seem to just be straight up fine like this asshole.
>>
eye people
hand people
mouth people
tentacle people
>>
>>732260896
he is not fine at all though
he's actually in the most unfortunate position where if society returns he's normal enough that nobody will help him and he'll just become part of the furniture but fucked in the head enough that his whole existence is just delivering quantum pizzas
>>
Haven't played it yet but I already know Jeanne is best girl
>>
>>732261052
>become part of the furniture
>>
Surprising how there aren't actually any real hopeless boss battles that lead into a nonstandard game over, I'm not counting xin-Amon as that was technically "won"
>>
>>732262238
Like the combat music drifting into vertigo.mp3 (or doom.mp3) as that aspect of the battle becomes progressively more clear
>>
>>732260896
I don't think he's really fine at all. I'm not sure he even really exists anymore outside of delivering random pizzas
>"Feels like I've been on this shift forever... I don't even remember driving here. I just... uh..."
>"... What were we talking about?"
>>
>>732262514
The mutations just don't have actual rhyme or reason do they
"Fusing and melding is a motif!"
"Fractaling is a motif!"
"Gaining visitor traits is a motif!"
>pizza man that teleports in a limbo to deliver stuff that looks normal and comes from a different genre of horror for all intents and purposes
Wondering if he dodged the unification and is just on the moon alone now
>>
>>732262691
>Just randomly delivers a pizza in malison
>>
>>732261841
I knew someone would make that joke
>>
>Aster reads sybil's note
>reads about how everything is visitor matter and the doom
>Aster: GRAND REVELATION! UNITY AT LAS-
>Aster:.... wait. Something's off.
>Aster: How did no one notice any difference between the normal matter of fallen asteroids and the visitor matter of earth? Or any other anomaly from landers surveying the rocks of the moon and mars? Shouldn't that have revealed that revelation about us being made of a special substance?
[pink voice]: uhhhhh
>>
>>732261841
>>732262863
That happens to Panopticon, Dan's mom and I think the Grass Freak in the plant apartment. Reminds me of people who die molded to chairs and couches.
>>
>>732232547
Unity is the product of Sybil's beliefs which then become Sam's belief, it isn't an absolute truth. Thinking about it unity should have happened day 1 because there is no way none of the 8 billion people on earth not get to that hypothesis, by far my least favorite addition to the game.
>>
>>732263151
Even with the top level 'visitor getting the proof' interpretation still has me thinking you could have a someone (wittingly or not) re-sow doubt on earth being part of the visitor.
>>
>>732233229
There is no "reveal", Sybil doesn't know shit about the visitor and is just a nerd in an appartment. Her words are true in the same way Louis' beliefs that he is a dragon is true.
Or at least that's what I think to keep liking this game after this dogshit nonsensical ending.
>>
>>732263151
>>732263293
Yes, /r/LookOutsideGame, a human with no special abilities to speak of was able to set off a cataclysmic event that eventually concluded in the Visitor deleting Earth just by reading something that holds no water and which had no reason to be concealed. This is what we're going with because you are unable to reconcile actual information with your escapism and be invested in a story in a non-self-indulgent way.
>>
>>732263151
Its at least a very horrifying image of an ending but it definitely introduces a lot of problems that weren't present in the previous implications that existed
It was easiest when it was just
>Visitor's primary perception method is forcibly inserting its consciousness into another part of itself
>so when it sees something that isn't itself it still tries the same trick which fries brains with the Infinite and gives them a small piece of his own natural law-breaking nature
>>
>>732263293
but Louis didn't become a dragon, he fused with his fabric and became disconnected hivemind guts
>>
>>732263429
Replace that with the true perfect ending then. The world quite literally became the game.
>>
>>732263383
>Yes, /r/LookOutsideGame, a human with no special abilities to speak of was able to set off a cataclysmic event that eventually concluded in the Visitor being delted and the whole universe becoming avideogame world just by really believing he could do it. This is what we're going with because you are unable to reconcile actual information with your escapism and be invested in a story in a non-self-indulgent way.

>>732263658
you people always use the obvious shitpost as an argument, it's sad
>>
>>732263593
The massacre princess stuff either is just joke or it is illusory and there is a sam (or chase) fractal simulating the massacre princess world with its many appendages acting as NPCs/Enemies/Characters from it or something like that everyone else is seeing.
>>
>>732263994
>it's a just shitpost... because I said so!!!
How is it more of a shitpost than a paper containing the thoughts of a normal human with no special ability whatsoever about a random space entity? It's what happens in the game, period.
>>732264012
Lol, you just completely all of that up. But of course I'm the reddit projecting escapist faggot that can't accept the information presented to me in the game.
>>
>>732264223
I dont think that anon likes unity or super true?

I'll see you on the moon
Where we're throwing a party
And as you're gasping for the last of air
You'll tra-la-la-la-la
Twirling moon dust abound
Lung destruction is starting
Take your suit off and swim in maria
I'll see you on the moon
There's already a party
And as you're gasping for the last of air
You'll tra-la-la-la-la

Since you consoom the game like a video essay to the degree that fucking Sybil has as much narrative significance as a one-off character, nothing you say deserves a serious reply because it is a false premise. There's nothing left to argue, you'll never get it, even if you know for a fact that the developer and co-writer disagree with you.

I've had this thought that you really need to not be hungry, hateful, angry when the visitor observes you. Some of the cursed who are insane will calm down once they've eaten - even Audrey was apparently violent when Ernest interacted with her but eventually calmed down. Whatever you are feeling or whatever is around you will be amplified a thousand fold. So if you have some condition that might make you violent that is not easily sated - you likely need to be put down then.

the Swordmaster prob has the right idea - meditation will do wonders. Growing plants - stuff that calms you might allow you to resist it far better. Frederick looks almost human once he has his face back and has the class 'ascended' in the code.
