I feel the same.
>Do all this tedious shit to reach the steel age.
>There's nothing fun to do now that you have the optimal equipment.
At a minimum, they should at least make the monsters and animals more dangerous. These block game devs are allergic to something like a zombie survival situation.

I dunno man, I've been playing the game off and on and I hit clay each time I start a new world then kinda lose motivation. I watch some streamers to see what I COULD expect, something to work towards and literally every single one I watch never levaes their base, EVER. They're just always running around the base doing various small tasks. What's the point of having the huge world and having things be a danger if there's literally no reason to venture out? I know there's mods that add ruins and such but it also seems pointless. To add onto this the game has been out for what 10 years now and it's still in such a shitty, unfinished state.

So, I can craft some better tools and I can make some armor but what am I crafting those for? Is there cool shit to find in the world or is everything just minecraft plains biome?

there is a polar continent when you explore to the north and an africa continent when you explore to the south, you have to go extremely far though unless you change the world settings.

What was this meme people tried to push that Vintage Story aka 'Minecraft but more boring and tedious' is actually better than Minecraft? Minecraft is going down the shitter obviously but the only other game to do the sandbox survival thing and match or surpass Minecraft is Terraria and that game is literally 2D.

Having a base you come back to is mega comfy. That's where you grow your crops. Which take forever to grow. Make your shit, with your expensive toys. Things you don't want to move or necessarily make again. Like your windmill and your smithy.
Even more so with map and coords turned off. Having paths that all lead back to home. Gradually blazing trails into the wilderness. Ever wary of losing your bearing.
>>
>>732217514
Same principle applies
I have food, water and shelter in my basement
Why do I need to go outside
I don't
But I WANT to go outside to engage with the various parts of Earth's map like restaurants, cinemas etc and to interact with NPCs like foids and goys. Does Vintage Story make me WANT to go outside? No

Yeah you got baited OP. It's just like minecraft, there's basically no reason to leave your base, just a few meme dungeons you see once and never do again. once you realize VS is based on a minecraft modpack it makes sense. If you want to play a nice modded minecraft pack but with a different vibe and aesthetics then you play VS. It's not a fundamentally different game.

What's the point though if there's not cool shit to go find? I don't care about generic grass #5 or generic berry #6 lets me put that armor and tools I worked so hard to make to the test and see a culmination of all that effort. There may be a dungeon, but is there any motivation to even go find it?
>>
>>732217730
Atleast with MC mods you can have all kinda of dungeons, cool armor and items to find and there's bosses to put everything you've gotten to use and there's even reason to go back. VS has mods but becasue the game is so niche there's hardly anything goo except to fix stuff and make the game even more/less tedious.

Recipes for wings that let you fly around like a bat for one.
Not that I see your point on this matter. Endgame shit is done for its own sake, not rewards. I dont go killing the moonlord thinking about the cat sword, once I get it the game is over any way.
VS' problem isn't the lack of an objective, but that the track between start and that is pretty barebones. Ive actually complained about something such after one of the endgame dungeon updates which spawns really far off (shortly after they added a distance toggle to it on world gen) and while you have vehicles to reach it, its still a distance with fuck all between.
Like that other anon said, if you want the aesthetic and vibe, go for it. Gameplay? Cant recommend.

do you literally have to walk all the way back and forth to these zones, or is there something like a teleport back to base with a cooldown option? No fucking way I'm walking 100 miles north just to fill up my inventory in 5 minutes and walk all the way back.

I haven't played it but isn't the endgame goal to just build cool buildings/cities like minecraft? I've been looking for something that's basically minecraft plus, will this scratch that itch if my favorite part of minecraft is building cities?
>>
>>
>>
>>732228921
Amassing the resources to build cities would be a huge pain in the ass in a game like this outside creative mode, but you could build some really cool shit.
the game has chisels in it that lets you completely reshape blocks into whatever you want, like the chisels and bits mod in minecraft, so you could gt very detailed if you wanted.

Yes. VS has the exact same problem as zomboid but with worse combat somehow.
I really wish VS let you build a village and populate it with NPC's and even had trading between different villages. I know some people spend dozens of hours just making a nice looking outhouse to RP in but they're still the minority. Having a use for all the cool shit we can craft/grow would be awesome.
I don't just mean combat either. Let me sell my extra armor sets for things other than RNG trash from traders. My wine cellar is cool but useless beyond that.
>>
>>732229328
well it wont help with that much
most people's complaints of starbound is that its as vast as an ocean but deep as a puddle, with the same 5 planet types over and over
FU makes space actually feel worth exploring, shitloads of things to discover, craft, build, etc
some people call it bloat but I prefer it that way. If I'm offered the infinite promise of the cosmos, I want to have more things to do than I can possibly ever do.

TheTOYMYpack
In my personal opinion Create and related mods are the best starting point. Even if you don't like playing a factory game it's helpful to automate building materials and has some very nice looking blocks itself.
Purely for building, you want Chisels & Bits or Littletiles for microblocks. And probably a mod like Chisel that adds variants of existing blocks and new cosmetic blocks.
I think terralith is the best biome mod because it doesn't add any new blocks that bloat your inventory, it makes new environments out of vanilla stuff only.
Ancient Warfare was cool for making towns with NPCs but it's only on old versions.

>I really wish VS let you build a village and populate it with NPC's and even had trading between different villages
We will never get a decent survival game that allows you to lean into a colony sim/builder aspect once you start getting into endgame territory. I guess we have bellwright, aska and invisible strain but meh.

Oh, I'd be fine if they were just static or only wandered around the area you built for them. I don't expect them to go around exploring with you. The feeling of a living village can be faked just like in older games like Morrowind.
>>
>>
>>732231491
Luckily most these weirdos get drowned out once the game gets popular enough. There were hordes of retards that fought tooth and nail against Satisfactory getting any kind of blueprint system or even the click+drag foundation system. Luckily the devs had enough of a brain to ignore these masochists.
>>
>>732230908
Yeah, it basically does always come back down to CDDA, DF, Rimworld, etc. I actually forgot to mention Elin in my earlier post but yeah. Very niche genre, not too many that involve 3d graphics/3rd person or anything like that besides the aforementioned listed ones, two of which are still in early access. Maybe in another decade.
>>
>>732231560
So basically terraria villagers but voxel? I think the game has something like that already but in a far off village most players will never see (also less useful than terraria's)
Dont imagine itd be even "lore breaking" to add, the traders already mention the player race, seraphs, just pop out of nowhere already.
>>
>>
>>732231560
Is this guy really comparing fucking Morrowind to static/wandering? Morrowind NPCs have whole fucking schedules. They are not faked. There's a whole quest in the first town that involves this mechanic. Anon was right, you don't know programming.
>>
>>
>>
>>732229587
It has the same problem as basically any survival game. Once you transition from surviving to thriving. A large part of the gameplay loop you started with is thrown out of the window. Firewood stacked up for months. A cellar to last you years. Iron or even steel equipment to give you more than a fighting chance against the dangers that lurk in the dark.
Unless you are driven by a satisfaction of "earning" your creative late game building. That's kind of where many of these games end.
>>
>>
>>
>>732232890
>Unless you are driven by a satisfaction of "earning" your creative late game building
Well, this is where the real fun is to be honest. Nothing like making tons of metal the old fashion way and cutting down forests and forests.
>>
>>732233089
Legit. The sycophanty levels there are beyond the fucking charts.
I remember when someone made a thread to criticise an aspect of a recent update arguing alongside some others that the numbers as were, were a drag to gameplay only for cockgobblers with bajillion forum karma and posts to rush violently fellating it all
>erm thats just like your opinion, in fact I think maybe it should be even more of an annoyance!!
Fighting to their last breath that its fine and the dev's holy vision.
Then as youd expect the thread went south and got deleted. But they also went 'sure' and added a value slider to it rather than listening to the fanatics saying doing so would be taking too much of their precious dev time and more so props for them I guess.
>>
>>732233429
>>732232890
my only real gripe with games like this is that once you get to build whatever you want, theres nothing to live in it except mindless NPCs
I'd like to at least be able to talk to the residents
its why I liked games like DQ builders and Staxel. there are characters that are grateful for the things you build.
>>
>>732231649
What a weird coincidence, I've been playing Satisfactory for the first time and kept thinking how convenient and nice to play it is

Generally, when internet users take things too seriously they become enormously annoying faggots. Small indie games have a very small player base so these are either the developers, forum jannies who have a relationship with the developers, or obsessed superfans who have an imaginary relationship with the developers. So they all take every single thing VERY VERY VERY seriously.
Also, small insular communities run out of things to talk about very fast, which means the same few points are repeated obsessively, and so for anyone new stepping in, the floor is pre-littered with landmines to step on and trigger a massive spergout.
>>
>>
>>732235242
This is just autist on autist violence. There's nothing autists hate more than someone who's more autistic than they are. This guy mass replied to everybody with pages and pages of text walls, replying to every single point everyone made. His replies were so deeply thought out that his autism exceeded the tolerance levels of the autistic staff, and they essentially warned him for talking too much. When he tried to understand this, he demonstrated such immense neutron-star-density social autism that they had no choice but to ban him permanently, or by crushed by his sheer sperg gravity.
Bro asked how to say thank you. Garden-variety block game autists can't compete with this, even if they're also forum mods.
>>
>>
>>732236560
Kek, I skimmed through the whole thing and came to the same conclusion. This guy is so massively socially retarded that I actually feel a bit bad for him. I don't even believe he's trying to be an annoying asshole, he was posting in earnest and that he really is just like that, without having the ability to understand why people think he's annoying. Not gonna lie that level of autism is pretty endearing and nostalgic.
>>
>>732234914
It took a long time for the community to bitch loud enough to get the devs to change course. Every time people argued for quality of life you'd have the retards screeching about how it would make things "too easy"
I bet you wouldn't believe that Satisfactory was originally supposed to have a heavy exploration element built into it as well. The devs wanted to limit mobility options which is why nearly every mountain can be climbed without ladders or other equipment.
Here's an example from back when the devs didn't want blueprints in the game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HoRmIFZq4Y
Coincidentally the guys in the video don't even like factory games.
>>
>>732238079
I got the sense that the game currently does have an exploration element, if you consider finding resources for the first time then scanning as exploring anyway. Though I just got to the midgame and set up those giga power towers so I guess traversing the map with a road of ziplines is pretty easy now.
> which is why nearly every mountain can be climbed without ladders or other equipment.
Sounds like hell. I've already slipped off enough cliffs and had to mlg pro fortnite quickbuild platforms under myself to not die, and I used ladders and power lines. I can't imagine straight up walking everywhere without even having the jump boots.
>>
>>732215792
That is kinda the issue with any survival game.
The hardest part and the time that you're going to be doing the most travelling is right at the start as you scramble to find resources and a good place for a base.
Once you have those, you're basically done with any realistic survival game. Because you're basically done IRL in the same scenario. You either die brutally or you find a good location with food, water, shelter, and other resources and you settle in. Then it just becomes chores and more chores.
It isn't like normal Minecraft where the player is empowered to do a lot of creative things. Like trying to build one of those giant classic MC fantasy castles in Vintage Story is practically impossible given how hard it is to gather resources.
So your creativity is far more reined in unless you dedicate 1000 hours to one world.
The rifts add some color to the experience in Vintage Story, but you can ignore them at a certain point.
I think something like a natural disaster system could be a fun way to force the player to adapt after they've 'won'. Earthquakes, storms, droughts that kill crops, etc. Something that forces flexibility and not turtling up.

>>732242438
I don't get why we need a fucking "endgame boss" in a survival game. Minecraft did the same shit with the half-assed Ender Dragon to slap a "1.0" on the game and call it a day and sell off. For a game that's supposed to be "what if Minecraft went all-in on the survival aspect," it seems kind of shitty to have an endgame at all.

i think you just don't jive with this game
the game isn't super hard to actually survive in and that's probably by design
you're mostly supposed to just go out and find stuff and make stuff you think is cool and maybe engage with the storyline and figure out how to make steel and make a cool homestead where you do semi realistic crafting, make beer, make a huge garden or farm that makes a bunch of cool crops, try animal husbandry... etc
y'know, just try shit, open the handbook and pick a random mechanic and try it
if you're not into that, then just play something else, the game has a month-long refund period

If you're using the conquest world gen mod you're gonna have to tweak the settings a bit. The landform 70% is bullshit as I spawned on an island multiple times. the full set of stuff to add some more crafting and survival stuff (along with perk systems and some more classes) makes specialization feel necessary and as a result your role becomes that much more important.
We got some nasty tweaks/glitches still with the corruption-of-the-land mechanic that I am unsure are functioning right...
Essentially everyone needs to be able to fight, but non-combat classes rely heavily on gear and support from the actual combat classes.
One summoner left alone can overwhelm with shivers/scorpions or whatever so you have to seek them out.
They will slowly eat through walls and floors to try to get to players if you just try to wait it out (even before we get into the bellshiver mechanic)
The amount of fighting you do creates a nice gameplay loop where you get temporal gears, rusty gears, and a few other materials from various abominations and then spend them on things.
We play with the hardcore system of limited lives before XP and class loss, and it makes the tension very real.

that has to be the weakest ragebait I have ever seen.
The game was made to be modded and lean on modders to provide the customization needed to get the experience you wanted.

we played with combat overhaul and some other goodies.
doesn't play nice with some of the smith autism, but that might get changed eventually since the relevant mod author is looking to make a patch.
we had to have different weapons for different tasks, and different attacks we could do with those weapons similar to mount & blade (but more specialized to the weapon)
we had a rack of pikes to poke over walls and engage stuff at extreme range, a few of us had weapons that could do sweep attacks but needed to watch out for friendly fire or cramped spaces, layers of armor for different types of damage (and a tradeoff of armor draining your energy and stamina a lot more) and our classes dictated what weapons we would pick up skills in quickly.
where you aimed, where you blocked, what you were doing it to, and what kind of attack swing you got mattered.
getting optimum distance would even give you more damage on your swings.
if you wear too much armor (more a class thing really) you will be so slowed by it your swings will be slower and deal less damage as well.
So being non-combat class doesn't mean you can just slap on a big shell and be fine. (smith is different though)

oh also I should warn you.
the real frustration with vintage story isn't anything mechanics wise (because there is usually a mod for that)
its making the mods work together.
you will have to be cooking your own shit as the server host to find the configurations and server side tweaks for shit to work.
You may have to manually share mods because relying on the server to tell clients what all to get isn't good enough for a medium sized list.
You may run into strange incompatibilities or glitches that you have to fix yourself... OR will be unable to fix because that mod relies on a section of compiled C# code in dll format and you will need to properly decompile it, figure it out, and recompile it and it is FAR too big a pain to deal with.
No matter what, you are gonna want to do some work on your end.
But keeping things small makes it easier....
but sometimes that means you don't get what you want.

Christ shut the fuck up already, nobody is reading these fucking essays you keep posting.
Modding this game isn't difficult, nearly everything works fine together out of the box and everything that doesn't will have a disclaimer.

Stop throwing a tantrum because you are too tech-illiterate to understand what does and doesn't work.
You clearly have never had to deal with the issues of the xp leveling and perk mods interacting strange with various other mods, or toolsmithing's incompatibility with combat overhaul's shit.
I am not going to shut up because some retard is mad that things are more complicated than they realized.

>>732251312
And thats how you make it work.
You need someone to rely on to be that guy to make your shit work together.
Sometimes its the autism I described above, OR its finding a version of things that are stable and just work.

I've never joined one myself but I think /vg/ has open servers you could try. Would wait for a reset though, caveman into copper age is the most fun with others. Can't imagine joining a server that already has a full blown village.
>>732252109
the nights are long and cold, it's purely for survival I promise
>>
>>732250515
I've never had issues with mods running on a server with three others, but I'm pretty careful about checking out the changelog and recent comments to see if someone reports an issue. The hardest part was making sure I had the file system set up right.

Why'd you guys have to make this thread? I've been excited to play more of this game when I had the time.
My only consolation is I'm doing clockmaker wilderness survival for my first play through so I know it'll take me a while to get a strong base up and running

You should play standard survival the first time mate

Make cheese and pies, fill out your bookshelf, collect gemstones and ores rare clothes, there's lots of fun stuff to do.
I wish there was a bit more depth to the systems, so you could get skillful at activities to earn better rewards. Ie like how you can get better at prospecting to faster find ore, design systems to sort out animal generations for breeding, be effective at crop rotation and gain extra harvests. More of that please.
Smithing will get an update next patch which looked interesting.

Some retard made it thinking that being generally unpleasant was the way to get a thread off the ground, I guess? I don't know what their plan was.

While the annealing would be nice to have, I wish they'd spend as much time making the other systems as meaningful as smithing, as it's already the primary form of progression. Farming, for instance, is trivial once you're not in the subsistence early game. Even with a small plot cared for as a side gig it leaves you with easily more seeds and food than you know what to do with. There are a lot of mods that show how much further cooking, textiles, and animal husbandry can be taken.

It's literally the perfect game for anarchy/faction/2b2t like gameplay with low risk to future updates because it's not gaybaby jeet coded like mineshit and yet there are 0 fucking servers that utilize the based STOCK features the game offers. The closest I get is a no reset russian server where the population is high but nobody fucking does anything except trade and have people joining groups for the land claiming boost. I want a no fucking mods, no claims, ANARCHY server where dumbfucks get filtered because it's full of smart worthy players who don't whine that their shit got griefed because they were smart enough to locks and build it with shit that actually requires a pickaxe to fuck with.

Honestly as a parent and older gamer, I thought this game would be immediately boring and tedious to me because of my limited gaming time. Then I realized that this game is not really about hurrying things up and just running around, but doing calculated, cumulative efforts to improve your quality of exploration and homesteading. It takes patience and the ability to wait and put goals for another day. I'm glad it's different than Minecraft and Hytale in that regard. I do enjoy all 3 of them though,

And that has what to do with someone based coming along and making a server for like minded individuals to take fun in building, pillaging and raiding each other? There are already tons of games out there similar which is why I'm surprised no one has done it with this game which has the potential for more long term raids/economy. My wants are greater than simple minded griefing.

>get basic stuff set up
>zero reason to leave your base area
This is true of a lot of "survival" games, or games with challenge and punishment, like say, dont starve, where death means deleted save start the 100 hour grind over nigger (at least before they added all the revival options)
its bad game design, if there is danger and a weighty punishment for failure, then why would I risk anything if I have everything I need right here?
Terraria did it right, going into harder biomes means better loot, and in hardmode, camping out at spawntown just means conceeding the world to the corruption and hallow, losing precious hard mode biomes in the process, a clock is started where eventually every biome will be a corrupt one and you will miss out on what they originally offered, and yet the game gets really fucking hard at that point

You are being such a gay baby about this. There is literally a 200+ server on minecraft exactly like this, you can't even connect to it without a fucking paypass it's so popular. It's griefing with style risk and other peoples style and risk, it's no different than shooting them down in an fps. Survival game where you have to survive other players...imagine.
>Gives you a sandbox to play out your little tard scenarios
No see that's what creative mode is. For you to sit in safespace sandbox like a little tard and post your builds to reddit. The actual game is a survival game and you probably would suck ass at it. I bet you haven't even gotten to steelage in the actual game.

can't afford a server/run a server and I don't think I have it in me to answer to a bunch of retards that no one cares their shit got griefed and that they should learn to read the rules. Probably why no one else has either.
