Meanwhile, China/Soros/Globohomo subverters pay off executives to continue the cycle, spending less in bribing Western devs to their demise than they make in gacha profits back home East.
Your politicians won't do shit. You won't do shit.

Sequel was genuinely better. Lots of skill checks, and skill points being so scarce forced you to be careful with your builds. Companions were more likable all around, the areas were more interesting (both aesthetically and having more shit to explore), writing wasn’t constantly trying way too hard to be funny, and three radio stations with tons of original in-universe music and propaganda for each of the game’s factions was soul.
But it was a sequel to The Outer Worlds so nobody noticed.
>>
>>
>>
I finished the game and probably the highest praise I can give it is that its not as boring as avowed. The game feels like an entire faction was cut out of the game and the remaining ones barely matter outside of world building. Half of the companions are half baked. Outer worlds 2 is basically 2 games, a dialogue based rpg and a mediocre fps awkwardly mashed together. It never really feels like the two overlap in a satisfying way. Despite having a lot of skill options, you don't get to choose many of them making it so that the only ones that matter are guns & speech. One for each side of the game. You can do something like go full engineering, science & medicine but the game doesn't really let you roleplay as that kind of character. Occasionally it'll remember that skills besides speech exist and give you a dialogue option that probably does nothing. But despite the game being littered in engines and mechanical shit, you don't really get to interact with these skills outside of their rare appearances in dialogue. Unless its something like shutting off an engine while a lever that lets a non-engineer do the same is only 2 steps away. And thats just engineering, the same applies for most of the other skills. Its just different flavors of which perks you want in a game that severely limits which perks are available. I have a bunch of other gripes about the game but no one gives a shit.

Pillars of Eternity was important because it began the CRPG revival and we've had some good titles from that. Pillars itself was okay.

I’m sitting doing nothing,
which I do extremely well.
Exactly how I do it
is impossible to tell.
I scarcely move a muscle,
but serenely stay in place,
not even slightly changing
the expression on my face.
I’m fond of doing nothing,
so I do it all day long.
Wherever I do nothing,
I don’t ever do it wrong.
When I am doing nothing,
there is nothing that I do,
for if I started something,
it would mean that I was through.
When I am doing nothing,
I’m immobile as a wall.
When I am doing nothing
I don’t do a thing at all.
It’s easy doing nothing
and I find it lots of fun,
though when I’m finally finished
I’m uncertain that I’m done.

This game and it's predecessor were so exceptionally boring that it's baffling.
On paper they should be okay games but they're just the biggest slog RPGs I can imagine.

Do you want skyrim that instead of large world has like 10 small maps, do you think even bethesda writing is too interesting, do you hate enemy variety and like fighting the same enemy for 5 hours?
thean yeah, its great
also runs at 30 fps on a 4080

What even would have been the story of OW2? It's been a while so might have forgotten but wasn't the first game basically "capitalist planet is hekkin bad!" and then you more or less wrap up the story? I knew there was a OW2 but what do you even tell there?
>>
>>
>>732240082
It's set in another solar system and has almost nothing to do with the first game's plot. It's the system that manufactures the skip drives that make FTL travel possible but there's a big three-way war between Auntie's Choice (megacorp, basically the same shit from the first game), the Order of the Ascendant (weird cultists who worship math), and The Protectorate (Communists, Nazis, religious zealots, and monarchists all at the same time, they just fucking love authoritarianism and will make up any excuse for it, they're the bad guys). You're a space cop sent to sort shit out. Also the skip drives have torn holes in space that are going to kill everybody. That's the gist of it, I guess.
>>
>>732226320
>An RPG without romance is worthless so I skipped outer wilds lol
Not only does TOW2 not have romance, it's completely sexless. Seems like in order to avoid any gender debates they made everyone completely oblivious to gender, sex or romance.
No one is in a relationship. No romance. No mentioning of biological urges. No one has children or talks about them.
>>
>>
>>732241379
>Auntie's Choice (megacorp, basically the same shit from the first game)
Lame rip-off of Mom from Futurama. Completely one-dimensional and that one trick wears off fast.
>The Protectorate (Communists, Nazis, religious zealots, and monarchists all at the same time, they just fucking love authoritarianism and will make up any excuse for it, they're the bad guys)
Unironically the best faction. They feel like a real faction and have the best companion.

One of those games where I didn't even bother taking screenshots of posts shilling the game and its "obvious success" or looking for players on steamcharts... the game is so irrelevant that it wasn't worth it. Just another cog in the propaganda machine.

The autistic dialog makes the outer worlds 2 unsalvageable from a story perspective but I'll shit on the world building a bit anyways.
1.There's not enough actual diversity on the planets, I simply do not believe there would be only 2 nations between the 4 planets that make up the game. Especially if they're actually hospitable like Eden. The game should be filled with little sub factions, like various unrelated dissenters to do one time quest for so you can fuck over the monarcho-communist dictatorship without dickriding the mega corporation.
2.Scrappers have no reason to be in the game other than ripping off raiders from fallout. Drug addicts don't form militias like that and they should've a paramilitary arm of Sub Rosa instead
.
3. Why did they waste time making Sub Rose an actual faction when it has no companions, no radio, or even any contributions to the ending? That effort should've gone to making the protectorate a faction, no?
4. Marisol's companion quest and Aza's entire character feel really half baked. Stopping the other solar system threatening quest feels important enough but it's totally separate from the main plot. All we get from it is her learning to be a bit more humble. I was expecting Aza to become more than a murder hobo but then she just doesn't.
Game play wise it doesn't have nearly enough enemy verity, it sucks to both play as and play against melee, nothing's worth crafting other than health charges, items don't do enough, limiting armor to just 2 pieces was lame as fuck, weapon modding is way too limited, mountains don't appear on the map so the world isn't as open as you think, and .there aren't enough random encounters to keep the world interesting (half of them are 'oh no, yet another biologist got mauled by some alien')
Actually getting to met some of the personalities from the radio station was pretty sick tho icl.

>. When Avowed was initially pitched to Microsoft, it was initially envisioned as a massive, ambitious cross between The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Destiny 2.
I think they're just idiots who had cut down so much on their ideas that it came out as feeling like a giant compromise and not anyones actual vision
>>
>>732223674
They wrote themselves in a corner, anyways. MS would let them make a third, but then they'd have to figure out the Earth plot.
>>732231164
2 drops that for the most part. Auntie's Choice is bizarrely nice compared to the first game.

It's weird how puritanical they get about it too. "I don't hate romance, I just hate how games gamify romance, it doesn't feel realistic, it's artificial."
You fucking cunt, it's just as artificial as the "deep, strong friendship bonds" you write anyway. Why is romance singled out, while we pretend that talking to Garrus between each mission and then shooting cans with him was somehow less artificial?
It's a fantasy, it doesn't have to be perfectly representative to be cromulent.

My favorite part about Dustborn is that the final boss is an avatar of objective truth. There's a faction that makes an extremely advanced AI with no restrictions that WILL tell you if something is true or not with 100% accuracy. Defeating this AI is paramount because it would tell you about black IQ, or Jews, or that trannies aren't real women.

This was long after they were acquired by MS. But it makes it boosts gamepass numbers, so MS will pay for more slop in the future.

This.
People seem to have no conception of how modern game studios work.
Usually, the team that made that awesome game you like will contain nearly none of the same people by the time a sequel is being developed.
The profession of game dev is highly contract based, once the work is done much of the team is disbanded to maximize profits.

in this case, if they had met their target of being a 'mild success,' they would have said they were 'satisfied' or that they'd 'met expectations.'
'Underperformance' in this context means that they really failed to get people interested in playing either by GP or through purchases.

Pentiment did make money but it was very cheap to develop, especially since Sawyer will keep putting in extra hours for free. POE might be incredibly mediocre but you can't refute Sawyer has put an absurd amount of time in to polishing it towards what he considers perfect.
