Yep, last year was filled with back-to-back Directs, so this is nothing new.

Seems like Nintendo's moving towards announcing stuff on Today and then doing game-specific directs. Wonder if it's them wanting to always do things differently from the rest of the industry since basically everyone just copied the Direct format.
