if the games that they HAD released were really good I think things would be quite different. Pokemon isn't seen as a "video game" franchise. They could stop selling video games and the franchise would continue in anime, manga, radio drama, card sales, toys, plushies, figures and blah blah blah. All of which cost substantially less in time, effort and grief. They could say that there will be no new actual "games" going forwards and that Champions is the only way to experience Pokemon and it would still be a billion dollar franchise. The issue is that those billions don't transfer to anything else Nintendo. You don't invest in Nintendo for Pokemon, you invest in the Pokemon Company.
