It's the quintessential example of a game that you really want to be good only to reluctantly admit it's shit. Cool art style, character designs, space adventure and it's all just... bland. You will fall the fuck asleep trying to enjoy it.

It's decent? It's like a poor man's Star Ocean if SO actually used its setting as a space opera instead of having the games tame place 90% in a single planet.
Rogue Galaxy makes an attempt at having you traverse the galaxy, but that just means you get a bunch of kinda shitty areas like "Desert city" and "forest path" and each one is a "planet".
Nice characters and setting though.
It's a game that's cooler in concept than in execution. You can see they had a vision but lacked the budget to pull it off.

Meh
Most of the planet are interesting also spoiler
The last boss suck so much, force you to use every characters, and since you can only play 3 at once, some are just underpowered, not a difficult fight, each phase of the boss have only 1-2 different attack that you see coming for km away, just this fucker got so many hp

It's a fun game. Not the best, but far from the worst JRPG out there. Good story, interesting characters, and cool set pieces. You have to remember it's a PS2 game though, and having animations and voice acting was a HUGE deal back then. I think it has more voice lines than DQ8, or comes close if not. Feels about on par with FFXII in that regard, in terms of the amount of voice lines and not necessarily quality (although I like the English VAs). So today that doesn't seem as cool and the game feels way more mediocre just based on gameplay and story.

No, you get to level 50ish around the mid/late game where you can use the best weapons. Higher by the end.

This is where I think the game hits a lull. The villains fuck off and leave you to explore a weird temple that has a boring design compared to other areas, and you likely already maxed out Jaster's starter weapon and the combat gets pretty repetetive but not "easy" either because some enemies just do so much damage that you can get wiped if you zone out in a battle and lose an hour+ of progress from warp/save point to warp/save point.

I like the fact you can get an overpowered darth vader bug in the bug chess minigame.

Good parts:
>combat can be pretty fun, lots of different characters to try with their own unique weapons and moves
>soundtrack ranges from ok to good, nothing amazing
>great graphics, environment, and monster/character designs especially with emulator upscaling
>cool extra outfits and other stuff to collect
>lots of sidequests like the bounty system
>fun little touches like voice acting while roaming around depending on the environment
>there's a really in-depth bug catching minigame where you make them fight on a grid if that's your thing
Bad:
>plot is such a fucking snoozer full of anime cliches (and not the good ones); it builds up characters and subplots then wastes them on shit payoffs and it's also really rushed on the last planet
>you need to manually switch to a special gun on ONE character to break "barrier" enemies; this is the only thing the gun is used for
>some of the encounters can be really annoying, and you will see them a lot in the wide open spaces the game expects you to roam around in
I liked it overall but I wouldn't call it the greatest game ever made or even a "great" game. It's just "good". Give it a shot and drop it if it doesn't click after an hour or two

>>plot is such a fucking snoozer full of anime cliches (and not the good ones);
i don't remember anything but only the part where they are in some sort of oasis or lake.
they are spying on 2 sisters i think? somebody asks main char if he likes the little loli or older sister. lol
different times man. where has it all gone so wrong.

it gets pretty boring once you get your aoe attack skills strong enough to one shot whole encounters
sure there's a bunch of gimmick enemies that are immune to them but you still feel like you're skipping most fights that show up

I 99%'d this game when I was 12 and gave up when the last thing I had to do was make some shit in the fucking factory
who the fuck thought this was a good idea

It's pretty mediocre. Lots of cool ideas under the hood and the leveling system was interesting, but it felt like the devs didn't have a clear image of what the game was supposed to be, the story was weirdly shallow for the epic scale it had, including the backstory of like half of the cast.
If you are a JRPG hardcore fan, this might be interesting, but it's just meh overall. The combat, specifically, is incredibly shallow and repetitive save for some gimmick specific boss fights

Like many said, it LOOKED good back in the day , that girl is pure absolute sexo and gameplay is just "okay" but kinda forgettable.
With that said, this Factory theme is GODSENT and stuck in my head ever since i heard it :

the parts where the fat little guy sees his wife and child looking for him and they just show up randomly in the most hostile isolated environments going 'hmm, well he's not here either' are so fucking hilariously stupid and played so seriously that they actually caused growth in my little kid brain and helped me to begin to criticise things

The plot baffles me so much: you're thrusted in this galactic war but you're supposed to see things from the sidelines, meaning some characters like the cat general or whatever his rank is disappears 5 minutes after he's introduced. Sure, you end up stopping a war profiteer meaning the war might de-escalate significantly, but it doesn't fucking matter, and the entire ending portion is rushed beyond belief.

Combat consists of opening a menu and selecting your strongest move that hits all enemies. Trying to fight battles the normal way is a chore cause the AI sucks and enemies can kill you in 2-3 hits forcing you to open a menu and chug one of 200 different potions you carry. I was reminded of this game a lot when playing Breath of the Wild for this reason.
