Why did it flop so hard?

trailers made it look like shit that didnt stick to the source material and everything that was changed was for the worse. then the movie came out and it was exactly what it seemed. baffles me that the director tries to pretend hes a hardcore silent hill fan rather than just keep his head down

I saw it this past weekend and it truly is a disasterpiece. It was like watching Gans write a bad fanfiction of SH2 that made it more in line with his first movie, only for him to remember 60% of the way through that he's being paid to try and adapt a story. I wish this film was just incompetent, but it felt like an exercise in spite by the end of it.

>It was like watching Gans write a bad fanfiction
according to ganz that is literally what it is essentially, he said his personal interpretation of the game its self was that all the other characters were in James head just as all the monsters were reflections of his psyche
its honestly not that big of a reach and not an uncommon interpretation, but the problem is that it becomes extremely jarring the war it is presented in the film, literally told to the audience rather than shown/implied subtly or left up to interpretation
then of course you throw in the fact tthat they wanted to make the cult connection to tie it into the other silent hill entries more concretely, and that just makes it even more jarring

Gans saw people embrace the first Silent Hill movie as a good videogame movie and convinced himself that he was some kind of creative genius deserving of all the future SH adaptations. And it turns out he wasn't.
