Ignored fans and went all in in the scifi aspect rather than going back to the grindhouse horror vibe.
Also put too much focus on fancy graphics at the cost of performance. KF2 did the same but to a lesser degree.
Part of the reason KF1 was popular was that you could run it on a toaster.
