The fact that devs even caved in and are now working on a classic mode when in this day and age 90% of developers are female, transgender or brown neoliberal retards means Firaxis was forced to do it to avoid the chopping block.

I couldn't get over the unit movement. The rest of the series would "round up" on unit movement, but VI would round down. Felt like they tied one hand behind your back for no reason. Drove me up a wall.

I remember back in civ 5 the quotes from the discoveries would be the most profound shit from humanities greatest geniuses. Like:
Agriculture
"Where tillage begins, other arts follow. The farmers therefore are the founders of human civilization."
--Daniel Webster
Animal Husbandry
"Thou salt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn."
--The Bible, Deuteronomy, 25:4
Biology
"If the brain were so simple we could understand it, we would be so simple we couldn't."
--Lyall Watson
Then for the later games it’s some obvious statement from some bitch.
Barrier Reef
“Organisms don't think of CO2 as a poison. Plants and organisms that make shells, coral, think of it as a building block.”
– Janine Benyus
“I don’t believe in astrology; I’m a Sagittarius and we’re skeptical.”
– Arthur C. Clarke
“I thought clay must feel happy in the good potter’s hand.”
– Janet Fitch

What mods do you guys use for 5?
Also, anyone know if the visuals of 5 can be enhanced? I seem to remember seeing that the leader scenes can't be edited, and wondering if everything else falls under that category too.
I like the visuals of the 6 tiles better than the 5 tiles, even though in almost all other aspects 5 is superior.I also like the workers having charges in 6, but that's controversial apparently.

Why even make a huge change to how Civ plays in the first place? And if you are going to do that why not make it a spin off and not one of the mainline numbered games?
>>
>>732265627
Other than the choice in leaders, this is one of the most obvious downgrades going from instalment to instalment.
The fact that they are picking stupid or joke quotes shows how superficial an understanding of what the game is representing the new designers have.

We could've had a whole juicy expansion out by now, but instead they've decided to strip away everything unique about the game to placate the non-fans who would never play a Civ game anyway until the only leader you're allowed to select is Adolf Hitler

The surest sign of autism is adding more and more content to a Civ game after over a decade until it starts to look and play more like Sim City.
I'm not saying Civ V is perfect, but what I am saying is that any of the most popular mods civfanatics promotes are dogshit. Just go to the Workshop and download civs and maps that look fun to play, and leave it at that.

To be absolutely, 100% honest, MOST play testers for video games are massive retards. Since I don't want to call this dev team actively hostile to the entire audience because that's a really bold claim, one can presume that they thought these testers were also retards.
However, because the 4x genre is big brained, and is known to be played by big brained people, the dev team ignoring big brained testers is small brained to the point of conspiratorial.

4 is more sandboxy with some Paradox stuff mixed in, 5 is much more boardgamey and less like a simulation. I wont claim 4 is better but please dont say they are similar

How would that be a bold claim? It's been the prevailing sentiment in the industry for over a decade now. I don't recall civ devs ever being openly hostile, but that could just be a PR decision. Considering what the average dev is like today, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they were seething woke fags that resented their audience. I pretty much just assume that of everyone unless proven otherwise (which is why I almost never financially compensate them and rip them off whenever and however I can).

Get EUI but install the original version from like 2016, not the newer ones. The original version pretty much just cleans up the UI, the newer ones just replace the old clutter with new clutter and fill the game with asinine "play the game for me" buttons.
>>
>>
>>

>>732271630
Partially that but it's also a bunch of spearmen. A single unit of spearmen is not an army it's a single unit. There can be a limit to how many units can be stacked, maybe 10 or something, but only being able to have one unit on each tile is trash.
Not to mention the fact that the game AI is still too retarded for 1UPT

thats how civ4 stacks work, spear men stack would get ass fucked by axe men, good promotion mix is important too, you need to educate yourself on how stack combat in civ4 works before you parrot reddit opinions about doom stacks.
>>

6 is good. All it needs is better AI. The devs would literally have made more money by hiring 1 white or east asian guy to code better AI for Civ 6 and selling it as a $10 expansion pack than hiring 1000 jeets to make Civ 7.
>>
>>732272129
You're honestly just kind of retarded anon. One unit is not one spearman in any civ game. The graphic has always shown more than one. In the modern games where you can't stack them you would have to be retarded to not understand tha tthe single unit is an abstraction of a UNIT of spearMEN, as in, MORE THAN ONE. You even see the group get smaller in 5 and 6 as they lose HP. The devs can't fix that your retarded man. This actually makes stacking units make even less sense when you consider it.

Tell that to Alexander the Great. He was able to stack multiple units of spearmen, archers and horsemen into the same tile and still have space to manuever his army.
Your logic implies that there are massive blobs of 100k archers walking around until they meet 100k horsemen and get crushed.

It's almost like their design paradigm of changing one third of the game in every installment is a really fucking bad idea.
Civilization 1 was already 95% perfect. They got it almost right on the first try. Civ 2 upgraded that to 98%. After that making any kind of sweeping changes is foolish, you should do tiny, carefully calculated tweaks only. When you're near perfection you don't reach the goal by walking wildly off course.
>>
>>732273225
>hundreds of square meters
You mean KILOmeters. Every single hex in Civilization is meant to be like 100 miles across. You can fit an army of any conceivable size in one hex, realistically speaking. All the armies of the real world could sit inside one single civ hex.

no it isn't. they call it "anachronistic" mode or some shit. you still have 3 ages. you still have wars and such grind to a halt twice in a game. you will just have the option of not switching to a new civ.
this means no additional civ-specific bonuses or units for you, staying as the same civ is going to be a handicap. and when people complain this is STILL some jacked-up Humankind-copying bullshit, they'll feign ignorance and cry "but we gave you what you wanted!" before eventually selling an actual classic mode in some DLC pack mid 2027

I don't even understand how you could possibly think that, Civ 5 is a pretty radical departure from the previous games in a number of ways. Like it doesn't feel fucking anything like Civ IV at all let alone I - III. Social policies are locked in instead of being flexible government types, the game places on emphasis on only having a small core number of cities until later in the game, roads cost maintenance, the victory conditions are completely reworked, 1UPT combat, player-directed instead of automated trade routes, I could go on.

>>
>>732274528
Yeah honestly that is fair, I think they're mechanically largely different games loosely united under the same overall goal.
I like the district adjacency planning in VI and I also like some of the really gimmicky civs (V also had gimmicky civs like Venice but I feel like VI commits to the gimmicks more like with Babylon, Maori or Portugal)
>>
>>
>>732274335
you're forgetting the actual reason it flopped
every decision made was done so to increase the number of microtransactions they could squeeze out of people
that's the entire reason you have civ switching and leaders uncoupled from civilizations and why it has (had?) that retarded grinding level up system, like who tf plays the same leader in civ enough to get them to level 50
>>
>>
>>732274721
I personally found the district mechanic unnecessary complicated and too formulatic. You end up doing the same cookie-cutter builds over and over again. There is literally no reason why we can't manage that stuff as a single city.
>>
>>732274690
Everything you've listed is an improvement over the absolute clusterfuck that is 4's gameplay. Every decision in 5 was made with the mindset that 4, at its core, was totally fucked up because comp sweaties weren't playing with the spirit of the game in mind.
>>
>>
>>
>>732274758
eras are a core mechanic around which the entire game is based, they can't get rid of that unless they do a Stellaris level overhaul where they update the game to such a radical degree you're left with what's functionally a sequel
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>732274842
I was pointing out that Civ 5 was a radical departure, not that it was necessarily any better or worse. Your post in a complete non-reply to what I'm addressing, which is to say that 5 doesn't feel like any of the previous games and suggesting it does is bizarre. Is it an improvement? Maybe, maybe not, that's not even what I'm talking about.
>>
>>732274729
Nope, not at all. If they had like George Washington or anyone else for America, I might have got it. But Tubman was a flag that this game is now woke, and then you couldn't even stay as the same civ. Because of those I didn't even buy it so the microtransactions were never even given a chance.
>>
>>
>>732274860
even all the woke stuff was secondary to the monetization because the suits at the top figured that the civilization fanbase was highly loyal since humankind flopped, so they could include the woke things to increase the number of players by drawing in non-civ players
except it backfired on them in the most spectacular way when they realized far too late that not only does the typical gamer not like 4x gameplay and their attempts at breaking into a new audience failed, but at the same time the civilization fanbase has absolutely 0 issues with simply continuing to play the games they already own
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>732275019
USA also has Benjamin Franklin though
really the core issue with 7 isn't the woke, even if it is a major issue, the core issue with 7 is that it's designed from the ground up to be a vehicle for DLC and microtransactions and the woke is but a symptom of that
the people in charge of making 7 the way it is aren't woke themselves, they're simply soulless corporate suits who believe that woke was easy money

>On her way to stage a mostly peaceful protest in China, Persia and Baghdad.

>>
>>
>>732275019
I don't give a fuck about woke culture wars bullshit and even I think Tubman was an awful choice. If you're playing as America there are probably a few presidents that will satisfy most people as choices; Washington, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and FDR for WWII RP. You could probably get away with Jefferson or Adams in place of some of them, but Tubman? Even Benjamin Franklin, the other choice, feels kind of dumb since he was never president.
>>
>>732275197
there's plenty of leftwing civ players, in fact I'd gladly describe myself as leftwing
I just value historical significance quite a lot and civ 7 managed to piss me off with it's leader choices by including people with no significance what so ever as leaders
The worst one for me isn't even Tubman, it's Lovelace, and that's the one that genuinely pisses me off because there was just absolutely no reason for it, if you wanted a female english or british leader there were tons of great options for it, queen Victoria has a whole god damn era of human history named after her
but instead you go with a d-list figure who isn't even the most famous brit in her own narrow category, because that would be Alan Turing
>>
>>
>>732275295
It's crazy to do a deep dive on Harriett Tubman and learn that literally everything you know about this supposed real person is actually fabricated and it's possible that she isn't a real person at all.
>>
Only thing I don't like about Civ 5 is that the bonuses you get from unique units don't propagate to future units.
Example; American infantry after Minutemen don't get the 'ignore terrain' ability. Sucks that you only have a specific window to get that bonus (for free) before the civ 'forgets' how to train it anymore.
>>
>>
>>732275197
It's kind of funny because I would say it's for people that don't hate their own culture and also like other people's culture. Like what if Rome lasted to the modern age? Or what if Japan didn't lose WW2. But yeah the left is so far left that if you don't want to destroy everyone's culture then you are now right wing.
>>
>>
>>
>>732275395
post gamergate, choice of civs and leaders in civilization became political. hence nonsense like harriett tubman and ada lovelace. This isn't even about gender - Civ 2 had one male and one female for each civ. But they need to tell a narrative and part of that narrative is that ada lovelace and harriett tubman are great people for their civilization, because of feminism or blacks or whatever. The values of the culture are different, Victoria is in fact not as important as Ada Lovelace in this modern culture.

and at the same time it has some unique units that are so ridiculously well timed and powerful if rushed they let you dominate the game
ship of the line is feared for a very good reason after all, if england rushes it (who are we kidding here, every england player rushes it) they automatically win the water for the next 100+ turns because the first ship that can believably combat them is the ironclad and then only on defense, they don't stop being obsolete until battleships
they're so dominant on water than in more competitive games people will just flat out not settle on the coast if there's an england player

one of the most fun ones is the maori warrior for this, since their debuff stays with upgrades so if you keep a couple of them alive you can basically inflict perma -10% strength on all enemies throughout the entire game

Oh, no, I meant that units you produce after the unique unit is obsoleted don't also get the bonus. eg. Minutemen that you promote to riflemen retain their terrain bonus, but riflemen that you freshly produce don't have that free bonus.
I just think it's lame that the unique bonuses don't propagate throughout the ages.

Now all ye marketers of /v/, riddle me this
>I am making FIFA. I have entirely taken over market niche in (football games). Everyone who wants a game in my niche wants my game.
>As for next installment of FIFA, instead of doing earlier game but better, I´m gonna make FIFA with new rules: now the central gameplay mechanic (chasing after football with large goalposts) is swapped into something brave and new (chasing after low-friction puck with small goalposts).
Will I drive away customers who want new FIFA? Will the loss of players be compensated with players who want ice hockey, or will they instead play the #1 game in their already-established niche that has improved upon the game of their niche hard for past 10 years (NFL)?This is my issue with Civ7. We wanted Civ6 but better. Instead we got not-civ-6-but-better, but At-its-core-not-Civ-game. Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to drive away your core market?

Well, I think the key component you're missing is the modern audience. What you're doing is correct - the current audience is dwindling and you need to bring in new blood; this is where the modern audience steps in.
Just remember, the modern audience has different, more refined and civilized sensibilities that you have to cater to. I trust that you'll be able to accommodate their tastes. Don't worry about the previous crowd - they're captured and will buy anything you make because of brand recognition. In fact, you should probably ridicule them - this is something the modern audience appreciates, because the modern audience is replacing the old guard "gamers" and views them with scorn - so you'll actually be currying favor with your newer, more socially awake, modern audience.
You're on the right path, comrade. Keep up the good work and it'll pay off (perhaps not monetarily, but the message will be sentat all costs).

It is not that cool at all, it has none of the aesthetics or basic art that makes Civ such an engaging game. The "wonders" are boring as hell, no art at all of your buildings and mechanics, just this generic "sci-fi" design and all the leaders are just 90% mystery meat generic people and even the non-mystery meat are just as boring.
One of the most used mods is the one that makes the alien death fog more visible to the player because the green and purple colors in the map are so fucking harsh.
No teeth on this game, the devs had no idea on how to even imagine a future that wasn't sterile and boring.

Domination victory only.
Or no victory conditions and just make a city sim until I get bored.
I do wish that cities had more restricted building types, based on their surrounding environments. I might make a mod that does that - I assume it's possible to restrict certain building types from being listed. Will have to look into it.
For example, more things like observatory, gardens or windmill based on surrounding tiles. Would probably need to add more ways to transport goods to cities though, similar to doing food or production trade routes.

VI would be fine if not for the terrible late game wars. It's impossible to take a modern city, even with siege weapons you're not doing shit for damage so it's just loading up submarines with nukes and blasting with multiple nukes per city. And if Cities are close, well, go fuck yourself the city defenses can hit all your units from both cities. The polution and global warming systems are fun in concept but it ends up terrible because the AI will just spam coal power plants anyway and you end up basically having to fight wars to blow up factories, lose your coast

In Civ 4, cultural victories can either feel very rewarding, or actively ends the game before anything can really happen. It's why I disable it for the off chance Brazil gets lucky early game off screen and smashes everybody else.
>>
>>
>>732278213
For Civ 6 my favorite mods heavily nerfed the walls to allow the AI to capture civs more easily and made it where making troops cost population. For the latter, you have to set troops with more stars to cost more population, since the AI will actively only create the most powerful units it can since everything shares the 1 population cost.
The main thing I disliked about Civ 6 compared to 5 is how annoying domination and war becomes due to the walls once they really start going. 6's main solution is to nuke, but I like 5's more impactful nukes more.
>>
>>732276660
I don't know if it is just me, but I can only do domination victories. Every time I try for a different one I'm constantly think "Why am I trading with these weaklings when I can just conquer them". Like, I could have won the game hundreds of turns ago.

>>732279186
It's not just you, but several players struggle with domination not because it's difficult, but because it's tedious. 1UPT can make moving huge armies feel like playing a shitty version of Tetris, until artillery/airplanes LoS and terrain slows the game to a crawl, and early-rush civs are newfag traps because you would not BELIEVE how many times I would be too Civ-stupid/drunk while playing Attila and ended up trapped on my own continent with -50 GPT, no science, and not having researched Optics because I forgot about it until it was too late.

Good thing firaxis is done.
>>

NTA but you can see the obvious hostility towards the audience in that ad. The black bitch general references the player being named something like "Melvin972" (melvin is a total dork name) and being obsessed with pudding (totally dork and loser coded) does mean the ad writers clearly do not have a high opinion of the players. It's like a bunch of people with no kknowledge of gaming outside of what they saw on Big Bang Theory wrote it.
>>
>>
>>
>>732279534
Black people have nothing to do in a CIVILIZATION game. They're completely irrelevant in history.
The only reason they're in is because Jews control the industry and want to push anti-white egalitarian propaganda (all races are equal, women/men are equal, etc.)
An accurate portrayal of history, wherein Europe/MENA/Asia would get the lion's share of representation and blacks depicted as 70 IQ barbarians, would be completely unacceptable to the Jews

White people founding an abrahamic religion isn't incoherent. See: Mormonism, JW, etc.

France invaded half the world including America, Africa and Asia
Historical coherence is a matter of potential. In an alternate reality, White people *could* follow another religion, build different monuments or invade different people.
But niggers do not have the intellectual potential to do any of these things. A nigger ""civilization"" founding a large-scale religion and building large monuments is completely impossible. That's why seeing niggers in a history game breaks immersion.

>Ill save my money for a brand new civ
This attitude bothers me. I get that studios can sometimes release stinkers, and can redeem themselves in a subsequent release - but 7 just seems like such a clear signal that the company is desperate for money and just chase trends, and that the core of the Civ franchise means nothing to them, that I can't really bring myself to give them money in the future.
It's like the abandonment we've seen in other franchises when they basicaly say "fuck off" to the old fans in the hunt for the modern audience (Star Wars being the most obvious example - they literally killed off the old characters to replace them with 'modern' versions of them). Having loyalty to a company is retarded in most cases, and I have none here, but even if I did, I'd still not want to support them going forward. That trust had been broken. It's pretty clear the original fanbase is "not needed" anymore - the Humankind audience will suffice apparently.

Visually it looks almost identical to VI. It's the mechanics that are amazingly bad, and inappropriate for a Civ game. All players advance eras at the same time and their units get automatically upgraded. You can't have tanks against archers. It negates science and makes all units of the same type basically reskins. (most) Buildings also become obsolete every time there's an era change even wonders (IIRC?). Making building stuff only worth it as a short term investment. You also get to change your Civ half-way through the game, there's a group of ancient civs and a group of modern civs. Plus other retarded shit like skill trees and an annoying and retarded attempt at doomstacks (doomstacks that can't fight other doomstacks). It's a clusterfuck you should pirate it just to see.

On that subject, I do wonder if humanity will ever be able to produce notable people/quotes anymore.
I guess we're in a bit of a technological dark age right now. Need another renaissance or something and start producing great people IRL again.
Maybe we just celebrate popularity too much instead of intelligence (special because you're a celebrity instead of celbrity because you're special or whatever). That needs to change too.

It doesn't help when the previous game has a shitton of dlc, unless the next game is significantly different than it literally has less content than the previous entry, probably for years.

Honestly all I wanted out of 7 was for it to be Civ 6 but with a halfway decent, non-desync heavy online to play with friends, and rivers as their own tiles naval units could travel on. I guess the second request was enough for the monkey's paw to curl and fuck the entire series over for.

>Anno rome still sucks and sits at mixed
>More people still play cities skylines more than the sequel
Neither of these are 4X games like Civ. They're city builders. SimCity-likes. Will Wright and Maxis, not Sid Meier and Firaxis.
Anyway, Anno 117 is perfectly fine. They're just eating shit because they succeeded in growing the GaaS cancer in Anno 1800.
Which meant they are making a sequel to a game that had some 7 years in development and infinite budget from DLC (and also cost well over a 100 bucks to get everything).
Anno 117 will just need several years worth of paid content to get where Anno 1800 ended. That's just how the GaaS "everythingame" works.
Now Cities Skylines 2 was just an unmitigated disaster all around. Ironically stepping on a landmine just like back in the day SimCity's suicide allowed Cities Skylines 1 to be born as an indie, shitty-looking replacement of what used to be the golden standard of city builders.

Did he mean, "I can't believe people identified with Specific Countries and wanted to Play As Them!" in non-corpo speak?
>>
>>732291537
As previously stated in the thread, we're thinking Beach and Shirk were trying to find the most passive-aggressive pussyfaced way of bitching that the testers wanted to play as a single civilization (a single cultural set) that stands the test of time, rather than it being a series of cultures building on top of each other to create their perception of a civilization ( a set of cultures).
In other words, and as mentioned previously in this thread, they wanted C7 to inexplicably shift from one major civilization into another without understanding that empires rose and fell because their leaders failed their empires. One of the appeals of the Civilization series is that you have your civ start from the Ancient Era and lasts until [current year] because your astute leadership, guidance, and control guided your civ to success. The power fantasy is that if you were immortal and in control of the Assyrians or the Babylonians or the Scythians, you could have molded them into an empire that still exists to this day with no breaks or fractures. The devs for this game either don't understand that power fantasy or actively hate it because it has negative cultural implications.

Civ 7 is an own goal. Literally all they had to do was make the same game but improved, instead they pissed in the secret formula and big surprise nobody wants it
Millennia and Cities Skylines, those are simply incompetence on the part of the developers. I wouldn't even say it's Paradox's fault.
For Millennia it's too small of a studio with too small of a budget and too little talent, they had a couple interesting ideas but Paradox oversold them (their job as a publisher doing marketing tbf)
For Cities Skylines 2, the original developers, colossal order, were a complete fucking clown show. Just read up about it, it's crazy how much they screwed up. The outsourced NPC thing, the economy, just everything. It took them forever and they burned tons of money, no wonder Paradox confiscated the series from them.
Anno i have no idea about
but yeah it's more than the developers are just bad. They can't put out a game that surpasses their previous games, that's all it is. Civ 5 is better than Civ 7, CS1 > CS2, that's the hard truth, it's not a market issue it's a skill issue.

>>732258014
This was bound to happen eventually. Why in gods name would anyone buy a $70 game with less content, less polish, that’s also LESS GOOD!? When 6 goes on sale for peanuts?
6 didn’t even flounder this hard compared to 5 when it first came out even though people had misgivings about that game’s design. This flopped harder than Beyond Earth.
>>
>>732295695
You couldn't in the base game, but with religion, it's impossible to have penalizing negative happiness bonuses. In fact, the reason I prefer having happiness off isn't because it prevents wide or ICS, it's because it's too easy to snowball golden ages, especially as Brazil or Persia.

I don't think they have the talent to do it, they're simply lower caliber developers. It would be a pastiche, a facade, a parody. They'd just make civilization in space again and call it Alpha Centari, all the leaders reduced to Funko headed caricatures.

the great people of old are not inherently different than the people of today. what's changed is the context they exist in, or more specifically, the internet has made everything gay. nobody can possibly be cool or say anything insightful if they also have a twitter account where you can see them argue with some retard with flags in bio or anime profile pic. this would work the other way too i believe, none of the greats would ever be respected if they existed today and were exposing themselves on social media for fame and fortune.

Terra Invicta (I don't know if it's a civ like game, it's grand strategy and you manage nations but whatever) is also good, honestly it has one of the better shake ups to the genre I've seen in recent years, having all of the factions resources be within prolixity to each other leading it early game being crabs in a bucket is fun, you can't just sit back on your shit cause your directly without it from the other factions and they really want it

People prefer Civ VI to V because VI is simply the better game. Civs are more distinct, the districts add a really neat layer of strategizing cities, you aren't stuck in the 4 city meta, there are multiple viable wincons, and all of its issues are easily fixed with mods which are easily downloaded on the Steam Workshop.
The only people who still play V over VI are those who got filtered by the art style or those who don't like districts/builders.

The whole appeal of Civ is that it's ahistorical with a historical coat of paint. Anyone can play their favorite historical civilization no matter when in history they're from and take them from stones to stars. I'm an American Nationalist and I can play as Bronze Age Americans waging war on the Chinese before winning a diplomatic victory. My buddy is a Cucknadian and likes to LARP as "indigenous folx" teaching those evil European colonizers whose boss and lead the redskins to a space victory.
Neither of us play Civ VII because neither of us get our brand of ahistorical revisionism that is FUN. Civ VII lacks all the fun and soul of previous Civ games, that's why it sucks ass.

Civ VI I could sort of forgive since they stated they were trying to use mostly new leaders that represent parts of their civilizations history never represented in Civ before, but some of the choices were just blatantly made for feminist reasons (Gorgo, Jadwiga, Lady Sixty Seven, Seondeok, etc)

Anon, mon'ami, the bar for standard public education of history is really low but I'm afraid to tell you, you've been left below it.
They had medieval England in the game. It was Industrial (you know, the actually influential one) Britain that went into a DLC.

Anon, you're saying there was NO England in the game on release.
And it was. You had the Motte and Bailey castles. Your units flew the English Coat of Arms. You had English music and the Tower of Fucking London as the Wonder.
ENGLAND WAS IN THE GAME.
>>
>>
>>

No. That's just one of the many many problems with the game. Basically every single aspect of the game is inferior to 6 which was a step back in several from 5 which was a step back in several ways to 4.

>>732287341

The people who've taken over entertainment via the schemes of the hedge funds, intelligence agencies, etc. are too stupid and evil to create the kind of environment that Civ fans like. Especially given that there's literally nobody that they hate more than a man who likes history.
It's best to just mentally write this franchise off and let it die. Maybe a worthy successor from a new studio will pop up over the next decade. Maybe Firaxis will surprise you, but I can't even name a western studio that's seen a full recovery after being infested with slimy, disingenuous, woke modern American corporate culture. I wouldn't anticipate it.

6 has good numbers because as much as /v/ loves to shit on it it's still a pretty good game.

Based taste. Civ IV: BTS is still the gold standard. All the mechanics just click-the espionage, corporations, unit promotions, city specialization-all of it gives you actual strategic choices instead of the baby-tier handholding you get in later entries. And don't even get me started on the music and leader quotes. Civ IV had soul, Civ VI has a mobile game UI slapped on top of a half-baked sim.

People always talk about the stacks filtering them
But it's the fact you have so many "just skip" turns that makes it feel weird coming from V and VI. I don't think every turn has to be this huge convoluted thing like a board game, but I swear in IV I was pressing skip like 10 turns in a row because there was nothing to do (either due to automation, needing to pump out units to make the stacks, shit in general taking years).
Never played 4 Colonialists or Vox tho
