I finished the labyrinth of Touhou 3 demo and while it didn't scratch the EO itch, it was still a fun time. I was a bit disappointed by there not being a single playable character from 14 though but maybe they'll show up in the full game.

Say you are designing a floor for an EO-like game. How would you go about making floors that encourage manual mapping?
Would you reuse the porcelain forest's disabled tracking gimmick?
I had an idea involving teleporters, transparent walls, and a pattern to indicate where to go next, that only starts to make sense when you draw the unexplored areas. (with a FOE ambush if you fuck up) But is it too mean to expect the player to map in advance?

the level of expected complexity largely depends on when it shows up in the game. something like what you describe isn't too far off from the hall of darkness b2 puzzle, which expects you to pay attention to the previous room's damage tile placement.
going backwards in complexity, you might have conveyor traps, one-way shortcuts that lead backwards, and just standard damage tiles.
turn limit also encourages mapping out everything in eyesight as much as possible, akin to 3's sea quests or the poison rooms in IV. see what you need to do in a room, and then manipulate whatever necessary factors outside of it to properly progress.

zodiac still does passable damage if you max out the stars appropriately by postgame, but other damage classes will outpace it by then. it's a combination of zodiac not having particularly good subclass options for supplemental passives and the elemental limit nukes no longer keeping up.

that being said, even only using the power books that drop from quests/boxes is enough to make str builds viable, so you can consider the regal radiance/freezing blow/breakfire fist avenues as well.

untold 1's story mode is bad and only serves to shoehorn in an extra dungeon, which is also bad.
untold 2 has far better character interaction and the provided party composition's actually pretty interesting if you play everyone to their strengths instead of treating it like 1 DPS and 4 cheerleaders. the story is still somewhat shoehorned in, but they're at least working with the source material this time.
you should still play both on classic, but it's worth considering a second playthrough on story in 2. fafnir's a fun class to fuck around with.

I appreciate the extra mechanics and story changes (i.e., the expanded role for the forest folk) in 1U.
The voice lines in both 1U and 2U can be great for stuff like being under Panic or Sleep.
2U's extra dungeon and fights are very fun and novel.
Overall I think they are over hated, it's a fun little remix to change up a replay and a decent enough way of giving newbies a way in w/o the worry of having picked a weak party.

I made a non-cloning katana-wielding ninja in a 3hd run. Subbed them shogun and gave them katana offensive skills and focused on kaishaku and kubikiri since they were "insta-death" themed. They were basically just a weaker but faster shogun that could inflict ailments better but it still worked well enough since they weren't really meant as a huge damage role.

I am currently in the 5th stratum and I have also never played EO1 only EOU playing a LDTSA party. After the 8th floor it has been piss easy honestly until now but that's only because i am being autistic and not spending money saving for the ultimate gear and actively pushing with armor I haven't updated since the 3rd stratum other than weapons. The hardest part about EO1 without a medic or protector is how much you get but fucked early thanks to the cost of healing/reviving.

Anyone here with EO1/HD? Did land axe attacks get Move Priority boosts every 5 levels? In Untold my land is attacking pretty fucking fast with Boomerang10 and Stunning Smash 10

I do not know why I did not think to give Raquna Element Chaser attacks a decade ago.
Shes slow as fuck but Chasers go first. Arthur, Ricky and Highlander can trigger them, even Simon with an item or an enemy grimoire
