Its funny, every time Im asked what I do in my spare time, I realise how boring my life looks from the outside, as I struggle to formulate anything interesting to say.
Mostly I have been working on a small project for me and some friends, I am trying to set up a voice communication program. It was partially successful, but now I have to rewrite some code for the server part of it.
I have also been studying combinatorics for about a month, the topic is interesting and I struggle a lot with it, combinatorics have always given me trouble.
Besides that the rest of my free time I try to read up on other topics that I find interesting. Recently ive been looking into hope in the Christian religion, there are a bunch of letters from pope Benedict. Poetry has been on a decline for some time, as I lack the inspiration/vibe for something to write.
Thats the reason why I want to start reading vns again, the beauty in the characters gives me the ideas to try and describe something and get better at writing the rhymes.

There's no objective way to determine if the way someone lives their life is boring. It sounds like (you) think your life is boring by the way you've offered that up but I personally have no clue how to do computer programming or wtf a combinatorics so that sounds pretty interesting/not boring to me and I'm always envious of people who can see their personal projects through. I started reading vns again for the same reason. I read the white album 2 fan TL and katawa shoujo and it gave me so many ideas for my music that I might finally finish my indie rock album.
I wrote a song from Lilly's perspective and produced it and everything I'm gonna try and get my lady friend to sing it we will see.

Yes, absolutely its trial an error and ive posted most of the ks things Ive written, its just that due to recent life happenings I was not able to write, so I'll probably go back to it soon.

yeah i realize now what you mean and i relate very deeply. nobody in my life wants to talk to me about my niche interests and whenever i do find people with common ground i find i have a a bad habit of waiting to get my word in and not having a proper discussion.
on a related note, about your passion project, i used to judge my brother when i was much younger because he would spend all his free time writing sonic and danganronpa fanfiction. i thought it was a waste of his time/writing talents and told him this and i realize now that there was so much irony in the fact that while he was slaving away doing what he loved i was doing absolutely nothing of value to anyone. the concept of a waste of time in itself is a fallacy. I watched some video about the creation of Katawa Shoujo and it never truly dawned on me how much effort was put in by so many different people to create this game we all love.
if we end up getting snowed in tomorrow i'll try and get her to sing it. i'm just anxious because it's usually rock music and this is very much not rock music. we will see. i shouldn't have said anything i don't want to get anyone's hopes up but here we are.

It really is a truly beautiful city and it was the favorite part of my trip to the UK.
also the voice i have in my head of Lilly isn't remotely Scottish at all but that's likely because i'm american myself.

Here's the draft I have of the lyrics. If you guys have criticism I'd be happy to hear it. Originally it was going to be a duet with the first half being Hisao's perspective but I changed my mind and kinda hastily rewrote it. I had the image of the first convenience store scene in my mind so it's all really in the context of act 1. I tried to be clever weaving in the " past present future" theme of the whole route and I didn't want to be too explicit with the fact she's blind being that I believe the whole point of the game is that these girls are more than their disabilities.

That's why I said Edinburgh, it's the only corner in Scotland where people speak something resembling RP.
Granted, Suriko made her hail from Inverness, but my guess is that her parents' house is more of a vacation home and that they have a second place in Edinburgh for business purposes

Hmm, Im not sure what poetic metre you were going for here, I would personally try to work on that if I were you. Maybe think about assonance, repeating sounds can make things flow smoothly. Depending on how dynamic you want the song to be, you can also include internal rhymes. But I would really try reshaping the metre, as I dont really flow with free verse.

this is the rough demo with myself singing. I think i changed the lyrics from this point and i understand also i'm very out of tune at certain points( I am not a very good singer).
this is from when i was still planning on it being a potential duet. Also, like I said previously I primarily make indie rock music recording my guitar amp and bass and track the drums and very occasionally dabble in synths. This is my first time using only synths and making something in 3/4. I wanted to capture that flowing feeling typical of waltz songs. I also attempted to borrow the notes from "romance in andante" for that cello bit at the end but iirc i think i failed at that. I wanted to have that crescendo feeling at the end and I attempted playing the major and minor 7th chords on my guitar but it just didn't sound right so i stuck with the basic piano synth.
I'm a little drunk and I just got off work and I haven't shared this with anyone else so i'd like to know what you all think before i embarrass myself in front of my girl by asking her to sing this...

I hope this answers your question about meter? it's something i've never really thought of, honestly. I just mash the syllables together to make it fit into the verse of the song if that makes sense. I really don't know shit about writing actual poetry I base it all off of what i've heard in other songs.

Honestly, it works well. It has an indie feel to it, adding metre to the song would probably mess with the 'indie' feel, so Im not sure if you want that. But I encourage you to read about poetry, Im not sure but I think songwriting and poems are very close fields.
