Kimi K2.5 Thinking is alright I guess. The non-thinking model is fast and generates seemingly-good prose (I didn't get to test its intelligence or learn its -isms), but it's very, very restricted; unfailingly so. The thinking model doesn't seem to suffer from this as much with an ST preset, but you have to deal with the same 4 minute 10k+ token thinking sequences as K2.

With all these modern instruct models I have to handhold and tell EXACTLY what I want I am getting the urge to more and more to simply drop all this nonsense and go back to notepad. I already know how scene is going to go, how AI will interpret my prompt and all the tiny little AIisms it will try to inject all over the place. Why should I even bother trying to herd cats? Easier to simply type it all out yourself. Reasoning just exacerbates this problem and makes the model lean towards the same conlusion on how to do things. I want creativity and outlandish ideas from the AI and not slop speedgenning.

CN here. I saw last I mentioned someone mentioned that I "wanted to have loli banned from the website". That's not true in the slighest. I stated that Novel AI would not offer image generation because, as far as I was aware from what the turk had told me, we were going to be a text generation focused platform. My main fears in regards to image generation were that laws within several countries and regions can be more restrictive in regards to visual content than prose, as well as a fear that if the service focused on image generation rather than text generation, it would become dominated by image generation with text generation neglected. This unfortunately proved true with NovelAI being more well known in people's eyes for its image generation capabilities than text generation.
I'm not here to try and improve my reputation or relitigate some years old dispute, but I will state this, the turk should've been a lot more clear with his PR team at the time what direction he actually wanted to take the site. As an at the time PR manager, I had no idea what to even say to questions because I wasn't given anything to say. I had to bullshit everything like an AI hallucinating so I could give people hungry for answers anything based off my understanding and best guesses.

I did briefly consider starting my own text service but I realized it would not be worthwhile unless I could get access to my own model. As I lacked the resources to meaningfully finetune or train a model off primarily literature and 'good data' (as my hypothesis was at the time that a model finetuned primarily off properly structured prose with good formatting and data that would encourage vibrant and vivid prose), I abandoned this idea and largely left behind my hobbyist interest in AI to pursue my personal life and other pastures.
I've recently been getting back into AI through, ironically enough, NovelAI of all things. The service is a lot better today than it was on launch and although I have some grievances, I am happy with the state of GLM as a model and I find the image generation features that I originally opposed quite charming and functional. In fact, I even use them for coming up with pre-concept art for my own projects before passing along ideas to artists.

I wish I had the resources to seriously get back into this hobby from a researcher/engineering PoV but the barrier to entry right now is incredibly high for anything truly innovative or groundbreaking. The worst part is that right now the biggest hurdles are just those that can be solved with money, not personal innovation. Which is a shame.
There's also a lot of grifters involved in this scene that make money primarily off sloppy gooning services which is very unfortunate.
