I'm thinking about getting into hs but I have some concerns, hopefully someone here could adress them

So I was never really a card-game enthusiast. I like competitive games, but competitive usually means team-based and such were the games I usually played. But I've also enjoyed strategy games, be it singleplayer or pvp.

IMPORTANT: I'm a complete newfag. About to complete the Apprentice levels, like 1 or 2 levels left. Now to the point, I like the idea of hs. Thousands of cards and many classes with their own unique cards where you can mish and mash them into 30-cards decks to capitalize on their interactions.

But... 1st of all, there are so many cards that as someone who is completely new I'm completely overwhelmed. Is there some sort of guide for deck building? I dont mean a guide where I can see the strong cards and craft them, just an overall guide on what to focus on.
And the 2nd concern, I watched a guy that has thousands of hours in this game, got Legend, who went on a challenge (actually he has multiple different challenges with sort of the same problem) to play completely f2p + no crafting. He climbed through Bronze quickly but was hardstuck in Silver for a while because everyone was playing a meta deck.
So, is everyone just copying someone else's builds and you stand no chance with home-brew decks? Especially as a newfag? Or maybe I should just use meta decks to understand the game better and then be able to build my own decks?

I'd appreciate any sort of advice, and maybe you guys would recommend me some other card game if hs isn't beginner friendly? I mean multiplayer ones, I'm aware of StS. Though I do like the ideas in HS

If you aren't being facetious, these are the 10 most played decks at Legend. Except for 1 deck, every single one of these decks run Elise + Zilliax. Except for another deck (blobxigar), for every single one of these decks Elise is their best mulligan.
This causes the game to feel very samey. On turn 4 you're going to hear "I remember this place well". If the game goes late enough sooner or later "Action. Packed. Perfection."
Archetypes wise the thing isn't that bad. It's extremely boring that Control DK is still Tier 1, but Quest Warrior (as shit as it is to play against), Azshara, Aura Pally, Dragon Warrior and Blobxigar hijinks are all Ungoro/Timeways decks. But the fact those 2 neutral legendaries are EVERYWHERE makes the games feel pretty samey.

Control decks should just not exist. Aggro, midrange, anything in between, maybe a bit late game midrange, but nothing past that. Control is degenerate, combo is degenerate. And this is coming from someone who used to play control way back when.

Thanks for your feedback but I think every archetype should exist. In fact the prevalence of Control nowadays is because we lack good Combo combinations, when Combo exist you can keep Control in check and also be able to play Midrange and Aggro.

I've been playing Hearthstone since Day1. I'm not that great of a player but I've played all the different formats over the years.

I can't really articulate it but there's something very strange about the current meta. Even though there are a lot of different decks and cards in use a single game has never felt more "on the rails" with very little ways to affect the outcome of the game. Every deck has its winning curve and when you play it out, you probably just win.

There is a lot of illusion of randomness and choice but it never amounts to anything. You think you can sideboard in "Elise-hate" cards because you know you're going to play against it, but they don't actually work. They look like they work and they feel like they might affect the outcome, but they don't. It's really weird.

I'm in wild with a garbage deck stuffed with dragons to grind out the event weekly, way low in the trash ranks since I never touch wild normally

First time I've come up against someone like this, with a paypig skin and THREE different legendary cards activating on match start, so I think 'oh boy this is one of those wild power decks I've heard about, NOW I'm going to see the kind of fuck these players can unleash'

Velen's duel in Anduin's Book of Heroes is COLOSSAL aids. You can't field control him, you can't rush him, his OP hero power chips away all your minions with +1 draw each turn (and he loves spamming that shit) and on top of that Anduin's deck is total crap. I don't understand what RNG fuckery has to happen for you to win. Is this what the game is like?
Everyone online that I looked say that it took them at least 5-6 games to win. The whole thing seems like a total time-waster.
