Hey guys, tourist here. I don’t know if the original poster is aware, but that picture SERIOUSLY looks like a swastika. I’d like to remind you this is a blue board; we keep things “work safe” here. Please be considerate of this in the future.
>>
>>555534231
Sir, are you not racist sir? This is the ancestral symbol of our people, the people of Bharat, and we have conquered Chess just as we have conquered many arts in the past. The swastika is a symbol of peace and nothing less. Daneil naroditsky, the Prophet, is imprinted on this symbol of peace, a star (the sun) of hope and truth and knowledge in chess.

Thibault 10% lurks here btw, or used to. I was always complaining about lichess’s shit boards and how a lot of the textures would be fine if they just had more color options, next thing you know the “hue” slider appears. He knew I was making a good point and got on it.

Guys, when you think about openings that are supposed to be really theory-heavy like the Najdorf Sicilian, is that meant to be theory heavy for the black side particularly or for both sides? Because white has the advantage, so is it just him choosing which direction to swing his wang and black has to memorize a ton of lines to cope, or is it a mutual endeavor?
In the past I have played anti-sicilian stuff lately and even when I played open sicilians I took some pussy variations because I was afraid of my opponents. I do play masters all the time, so it's not like I am 900 elo and they will definitely know some lines, so what are your takes on it?
>>
>>
>>555588982
You are correct, the difficulty of the njadorf is there are many points early in the opening where white has several good responses which need to be handled differently.
I'm regurgitating advice from grandmasters and don't have anything to give you beyond that, if you're playing masters you, your peers, or your coach should have a better idea about how to tackle this issue than virtually anyone itt.
My typical advice would be theory only matters if your opponent knows substantially more, but against masters that's a real concern, so...
>>
>>555588982
>white has the advantage
This is an outdated way of thinking and the Sicilian is THE fighting response for black where black is trying to do more than simply equalize.
>B-but le engines say—
No. Humans are the ones playing the game, and there is no great inherent advantage to playing white compared to black. It’s a very slight advantage, basically negligible. This has been known since Bobby Fischer proved it and revolutionized the game to make players play to win with both colors.
So to answer your question, yes, black is playing for his own initiative just the same as white. The only Sicilian where white is the only one pressing is the Hedgehog.

Ok, but most people of all ratings are playing people of comparable ability, and +0.30>+0.00
Maybe in the year 4000 everyone will be 5k elo and every game will be the same draw, but white is currently scoring more at every elo, including computer chess.

It's probably not the mouse.
Chesscom and lichess handle castling and movement/premovement slightly differently by default, as well as animations which can make things confusing.
But you are correct that not familiarizing yourself with the settings and making input errors is anons issue and crying about it, as if it isn't, is something she should reflect on.

Someone made a significant blunder and lost the advantage, that alone is not very suspicious.
With that said, I do think some people can't handle getting positionally crushed and assume that, because they are losing to strategic play that is completely beyond their understanding, their opponent is cheating. And therefore, that they should toggle on the engine
>>
>>
>>555628330
Obviously I blundered, that's not news lol. "Well they didn't cheat because as you can see, you must have blundered". Yes, good job, that's how losing in chess works.
The question is how they managed to get enough pressure to make me blunder from a position that was resignable the entire game. He folded me up like a dead body stuffed into a suitcase. It's just ragecheating.
People like this who throw a tantrum an entire game instead of resigning are the same sort of people who switch on the cheat extension, it's the same spiteful psychology.
I'm not even mad about this btw, I just find it an amusing licheats moment

>>

>>555629813
Yes, because the difference is that chess.com responds to reports. So even though they have more players they’re constantly playing wackamole. Licheats genuinely doesn’t respond to reports at all. You have to be extremely stupid and obvious to get banned. So they have fewer players but far more cheats.

How come SF says nf6 is perfectly valid but hardly anyone plays it? Is it one of those moves that like, gives a lot of opportunity for white to get some big imbalance and trick the under prepped black player?
>>

>The question is how they managed to get enough pressure to make me blunder from a position that was resignable the entire game.
You are very stupid. An engine won't help you pile on pressure in a way that gives you swindling opportunities but gradually further tanks your objective eval.

Here's a win I had a few days ago. I didn't cheat. That's chess, it happens.
Look at Gukesh's wins. Every other win he is being positionally outplayed the entire game and then his opponent makes a mistake and he wins.
>>
>>
>>555650450
I won again, he got tired of having to look up my two moves every turn, then go onto stockfish and enter my two moves, then wait for engine's two moves and put them on the board, and repeat that 30-40 times with 4 second increment. They usually give up halfway each game when they see they're doing all that work and stockfish hasn't even won 1 pawn in 30+ moves.

See where your graph says Endgame? You misplayed the endgame and failed to convert, that’s common because endgames are complicated. You probably didn’t understand your pawn structure. Mine didn’t even reach the endgame. I was up 10+ in material with an unstoppable passed pawn on b2 and nothing to worry about. The game was beyond over. I ended up getting crunched by magical positional maneuvering in the middlegame. He kept making pesky moves that had deep threats that I had to respond to that only opened the door for deeper threats etc., exactly the way the engine sees every possible fighting chance. Completely different

>Y-yeah well he’s the one who won ackshually, DUMBASS! d-DUMBASS RETARD!

>>
Here’s a fun question for licheats defenders: Why do you think the guy didn’t resign? The game was completely over. Not only was I way up in material, I had an unstoppable passed pawn and he had no counterplay. He had nothing to play for and was only playing on to be spiteful and throw a tantrum.
It seems like someone who 1. is not the most dignified individual and 2. REALLY does not want to lose.
Wow. I wonder what else such a person might be capable of doing, other than refusing to resign.
And then, miraculously, he won, of course. He was just too strong for me, unfortunately.

I agree though that it's probably realistic to be paranoid about cheaters in online chess. There's nothing stopping them from looking at their phone at any time, and very few people have a kind of innate conscience that exists when no one is watching. When even blatant cheats like lordbentham aren't caught, then clearly subtle cheaters are getting away at a huge scale.

Ever heard of the philidor position? It's still taught, and still correct 200 years later.

>>555697449
Not resigning dead lost games isn’t some kind of high IQ move with foresight, if you aren’t pulling up an engine all you’re doing is wasting time and throwing a tantrum. Sure, there’s a 1 in 1000 chance that your opponent gets hit by a meteor or misclicks or something, that doesn’t justify anything. You’re just a desperate elogrubber who’s priorities are in the wrong place. You prefer to see le number go up rather than have actual value as a person or chess player. Many such pseuds. The funny thing is you’re just going to lose the rating back anyway, so you’re still wasting your own time lol. Just resign the game.
In the case of my own game, I did not commit a random one-move “blunder” to justify Never Resigning, the game was too winning for that. Even if I blundered my Queen it still would have been winning. I was outplayed and gradually crunched up until my entire position was lost. What you guys don’t understand is that when you’re objectively and completely winning, and someone switches on an engine, the eval isn’t going to steadily rise in their favor. Because again, the game is over. It doesn’t matter what the engine does, in concrete terms. As long as you continue playing the best moves, not even the best engine in the world can save the position. But what it CAN do is pose threats and, impossibly, with fewer pieces, a dead lost position and no counterplay, create enough complications, because it’s an engine, to cause you to contort yourself and eventually blunder. You guys see this one blunder and go “well clearly that’s all that happened”, no. You can’t blunder away a game that winning in one move like that. It was the result of the engine’s war of attrition.
You need to get over the fact that cheating happens, and it happens on licheats more than anywhere. You’re still opposing every claim of cheating, especially on licheats, on principle, which is something I will never fully understand.

Part of it is clearly just Licheats Defense Force, there are committed licheats enjoyers here who don’t want to believe that they’re playing on a cheat-infested site. But these same people will deny deny deny just the same about a game on chess.com. To never give any credence to claims of cheating whatsoever is actually the insane behavior, not the person who justifiably suspects it. It’s probably terminal midwittism or something, thinking you’re too intelligent to be beguiled by the allure of suspecting opponents while sitting there playing a cheat in reality, meanwhile feeling very smug about yourself and high-minded. There are people who just cross their arms and go “nuh uh” to everything and think it makes them more intelligent. They will never be fooled! They’re far too discerning. Then as I’m reading their posts about how nobody ever cheats I’m literally getting points refunded on chess.com for playing cheats simultaneously. Which doesn’t happen on licheats, because I’m an insane person who suspects everyone and is always wrong, it’s the only ever explanation.

>Midwittism
I'm in the upper range for midwittism, so it's possible...
Post your insights so we can see the actual odds of you making a game losing blunder. If it's really 1 in 1000 I will start resigning everytime I lose a pawn or more.
Otherwise if you are below 2.3k odds are you give away pts with blunders at a higher rate than the database average for best play.
But let's take your specific example.
Why on earth are their books and lectures on converting winning positions if it's so trivial to do? Has it occured to you that paranoia and distrust in your chess lead you to less than accurate play?
Additionally there is this wounded animal affect, where when someone loses a piece it frees them from the fear of losing material and they naturally play very actively.
Also, in chess you almost never have a clean advantage, sure we can say one player is clearly better for taking a piece, but often the other side is able to damage your structure or misplace your pieces, or otherwise get some inadequate compensation that can cause troubles and panic for the player with the better position.
You're just a whiny baby that doesn't want to finish her games.
It is possible they cheated, but it really isn't worth concerning yourself with, if he's only cheating enough to maintain 1300 you should still beat him if you're sufficiently stronger, and if he's abusing the engine blatantly he'll get banned when his rating sores and your pts will be refunded.
>>
>>555701449
I might start playing 3...d5, that looked much better than my games vs the KG.
I was taught to play 3...g5, and I always get cooked because it is way too double edged for me, but I never spent the time investigating because my opponents rarely play KG
>>
>>555703727
Yeah, I have found it's the easiest way to play vs. it. You don't even need to memorize much, just play principled. I used to play the 3...Nf6 variation because it's what my 1.e4 e5 book recommended, but that's way harder, and I started getting better results immediately after switching.

Dumbass
>>
>>555726760
Multiple accounts - Having more than one account is not allowed, barring specific circumstances. For example, titled players are automatically entitled to one "public" account, for play in certain prize events hosted either by Lichess or another tournament organiser, and one "private" account, for casual play online whilst still displaying their titled status. Untitled players can create a second account for similar reasons, with some examples including having a private account to hide opening preparation, playing "blindfold" games, or playing games with any other self-imposed impairment. Creating an excessive number of accounts (typically any more than three) will generally not be allowed, regardless of reasons. Creating and closing multiple accounts will also be treated as contributing to this maximum number. As with all other rules, the specific circumstances where multiple accounts are allowed remain at Lichess' discretion.

ladder anxiety is a pretty common thing across basically all competitive game
that approach helps to remove it because you can think to yourself "i'm not playing on my REAL account so it doesnt matter if i lose"

>She proved that segregated chess hurts women's growth and that women aren't genetically inferior at children's board games.
No, judit proved the exact opposite. The best 0.0000000000000000000001% of female players that ever lived (a total genetic freak different from other women players), made it to retirement without anything but failures in the end. She was given a spot in a world championship round robin tourney purely because the rules were so lame that Kasparov, Karpov, Kramnik etc. just said "fuck your stupid rules, have fun only having the shit players at your new tourney FIDE" and even then, she scored the worst performance of any player in any World Championship tournament, scoring 4 1/2 points (loss, draw, loss loss, loss draw, draw draw, loss draw, win loss, draw draw) while Topalov scored 10, Anand and Svidler scored 8.5
She was utterly humiliated and sprinted crying from the entire sport.
And no women will ever do it again, because they now just play in women's tournaments to have artificial fake ELOs and fake titles, facing weak opponents, that is not how someone becomes as strong as a Hikaru/Caruana/Pragg/Aronian. But they'll always do the easy fake route because otherwise being weak, women would never win prize money or scholarships or get coaching jobs.
Hence why it's been over 20 years since then no woman has ever come anywhere close to performing like a Polgar (who was already too weak to ever come close to being on any GOAT list, if judit was a man she'd be considered the 50th best player in history on any objective list.
Not horrible but not "proves women get r done")
>>
>>555764198
She proved that even though men use their prehensile penises to move the chess pieces, once in a while the natural variation in the size of women's clitorises overlaps with the size of men's penises, and they too can become chess masters.

I've been exclusively playing 960 for a while and now regular chess is too hard for me (I get trounced in the opening). As long as you don't fuck up completely, 960 is incredibly forgiving in the beginning before turning into chaos in the middlegame.

for sure, there's 10-20 very high level tactics going on you wouldn't understand until you train at duck or have a high level commentator pause each turn and explain what the tricks and threats are.
It's why the game is so complex that I manage to win even against max-stockfish often.
It's a shame the world championship is 2 second increment, so the commentators never able to explain any of the nuances to any non-duck players watching.

I might be going schizo here but I think we're being samefagged. The general was practically dead last thread at around 65 posts per day and this thread is thriving at around 116 posts a day. I don't base my judgement solely on that, in fact the first couple hours of this thread seem pretty organic what I do find strange is the large number of text posts itt. Especially the Sicilian argument upthread as well as the duckbro argument, they seem completely wordslop, notice the weird thrown in "karla meltdown", "quiet pbt", and "duckmixer" that make it seem more organically /chess/. The replies to my post >>555860065 also seem botty asf or at the very least danya-redditor esque. I also doubt /chess/ would usually go on about crypto and nfts and latinas for as long as it has without either some samefagging or the discussion purely being 2 people.

Here is a good and actually relevant lichess puzzle. Pretty easy but also fundamental in endgame play. This is the kind of puzzle people learning endgames should be doing, not 'endgame studies'.

Dumb question but when I'm viewing a puzzle like this on lichess, is there some way to "heart" it so I can basically Woodpecker Method it later? I don't really see anything obvious like that, but it seems like something that would be very useful. I don't want to have to slog through making and organizing a study, but maybe I should so I can group together puzzles of a similar theme?

Again and this is useless to say (and rightfully so) but I don't actually think that all of these people are samefags or bots or whatever anymore, or even any of them, especially after talking to a guy yesterday, a post of whose I implied was a samefag, who was just being nice and liked a post (i'm not going full tinfoil hat and saying he's the samefag either, or that he's catmixer, he doesn't talk like him anyways...) Sorry forgot to post the link. I started to accumulate a slight advantage around move 17, which I sensed and started to tank. It's actually a very complex position. I was at risk of it playing Nf4 and g5 and solidifying its position and blunting all attacking lines. So what I thought was Qd2 threatening the knight sac on h6, Nf4, d5!, Nxh3, Kh2, cxd5, exd5, Bxf4 is forced, Bxf4 with a winning position. That's just an example of one of the lines I was calculating and hoping for, but in actuality the engine would have NOT taken the pawn on h2, because it's not a greedy human. Anyway, Qd2 instead of a king move is what I decided to go for because it felt more active, turns out that was a mistake and just Kh1 was correct. After it played Qf8! which looked insane to me, and I don't think a human would ever play it, because the king now is completely compressed and the threat of a sac mate is constantly in the air, I still tried d5 just opening up the line of my white bishop, and Black suddenly had the advantage. I tried saccing some material to get to the king still but it was over.
I swear if I can just play more accurately and solidly I can beat this thing one day. I've already been adopted in my attempts so far but I can feel that it's possible.

Lol it was actually my first instinct but I couldn't really justify it to myself, I thought its g knight was moving with tempo to f4 and g5 was coming anyway, so Rg1 would be pointless. I thought g5! first and then Kh1 Rg1 after, but actually just Nfh5 and a knight on f4 becomes a permanent problem. My instincts are often correct but my conscious positional understanding isn't high enough and I overthink moves and do too much.

No, the gravity room was built by my waifu bulma. The hyperbolic time chamber is some mystical room that slows down time. They use it to train against cell, and try to trap buu in it by blowing up the door (which fails)
>>
>>555953332
To be clear, I’m thinking of the gravity machine Goku uses to train on his way to fight freeze the first time. Bulma builds a second one on earth later on. As far as I’m aware there’s no gravity settings in the hyperbolic time chamber. I could be wrong about that though.

How? Do you think she’s making a joke? You don’t even know who this is turbocasual, she’s the most delusional psycho bitch in the world. You think someone spending serious time playing Classical games against fucking Stockfish and calling it a patzer is joking when calling Hikaru a patzer too?
This bitch talked for years about how she was the best player in the general. Then this is what happened when she played Chest. She proceeded to invent all kinds of excuses about being “drunk” and “playing on a laptop” and shit. Same bitch who accuses every person who beats her of cheating.
So no, I’m not an autist. But you are a fucking retard

Depends on how much time you have, what your IQ is and what your natural talent for the game is.
If you take it seriously and have some talent and a high IQ, 2-3 years
If you take it seriously and have some talent and a low IQ, 5-10 years
If you take it seriously and have no talent and a low IQ, never. You’ll hardcap at around 1700-1800 blitz

Kind of. Bullet is a meme time control, as an example Mike Hunt the retarded former UFC heavyweight was like 2000 bullet on chess.com, but he doesn't actually know how to play chess. But it's true that strong players play a lot of bullet, too.
It's mainly true of blitz, specifically 3+0, which is the time control the strongest players play the most. You can meme a high bullet rating but not a high blitz rating

Elaynah's stream was a trip today. I like watching her and sympathize with her plight, but she has a lot of gaps in her game.
Today she sacked her queen after having already sacked a piece so she was down 3 pieces and a rook for the queen but thought she was winning because she had like 4 pawns. Completely dead lost. So then she had to give up her queen for a rook and was down 3 pieces for pawns. Then somehow finally she managed to advance her pawns and her opponent made enough mistakes that she got to the miraculous promise land of exchanging off all her opponent's pawns so it was just knight and bishop for opponent and she had 2 pawns. Was gonna be a draw at that level guaranteed (I assume). But she got close to her pawns and moved instantly and self-mated about 4 moves later LOL.

>>555993685
There is no point at which one species gives birth to a member of a new species. If the fossil record were complete, there would be no way to determine speciation unless cutting arbitrary boundaries, just like with a color spectrum.
So there is never a non-chicken that lays the first chicken egg.
So better you could say that the 'first chicken' came about when the first idea of the chicken was formed, and the chicken was experienced by man. So in that sense probably the bird came first, and the idea of the 'chicken egg' is the egg laid by the chicken, so it came 2nd.
>>
>>
>>555997258
Well, then it’s just semantics and over categorization, so the question has no real answer. The way I see it, you see the “first” baby chicken, you see the egg shell pieces it hatched from, that egg is unique and different from all the other eggs that existed before it, it would be inaccurate to call that egg a “chicken predecessor” egg. But that’s just a theory, a chicken theory.
>>
>>
>>
>>555998869
But the egg itself has the “first” chickens dna. If you gave a scientist the “first” chicken egg, and the analyzed it, they wouldn’t say hey this dna matches the chicken predecessor egg, they’d say this is a chicken egg.
>>
>>555999224
No, as I said, there is no DNA argument for the 'first' of a species. You have to take the semantic route if you want to answer the problem at all, and if you're not comfortable with that, then there's no solution.
>>
>>555999554
Well even if the standard isn’t DNA, whatever you call the “first chicken” still falls into the argument I just laid out, where the egg it came from is more closely related to it than to its predecessor. So anything you determine to be the first chicken came from the first chicken egg.
>>
>>555999734
It depends on what you mean by predecessor. If you mean the chicken's mother, then no it's not more closely related. There is nothing special at all about the first chicken except that it was the one first created as an idea by man. If you mean some actual species from the past, then yes they will be different and have recognizably different DNA, but I don't understand how that is relevant because such a gulf of time with countless individual birds are in between.
>>
>>556000214
Just seems like a really lazy way to answer the question, yes the concept of the chicken came first… but if we had a magic Time Machine and I kept presenting you with birds going farther back in time, every single time you say “yes that what I’d consider a chicken” it always comes from an egg with matching dna to that bird, which makes it a “chicken” egg no matter what. Like I said, that’s just a theory, a chicken theory. I’m about to munch down on some nuggets.

Who do you think will win game 3 of the Osho match? Will Nagase continue the trend of sente winning, or will Fujii win as gote?
>>
>>
>>556002831
He's not a biologist, and he's wrong.
Ultimately species are social constructs (literally), and that is what I am getting at. There is no true difference at the individual level such that a proto-chicken begets a chicken.
With your time machine, it would be similar to being presented with a color spectrum. Look at the spectrum where red eventually becomes black. At the pixel level, you keep giving me the color for me to determine if it is red or black. The answers would differ between individuals you ask; there is no clear boundary at all, just a bunch of muck in between, but if you give me choices every 50 pixels or 100 pixels it becomes much clearer, and those are the necessary gaps in the fossil record to declare species after the fact.

>Ultimately species are social constructs
Incorrect.
God made chickens, and then chickens made eggs after sin and sexual reproduction were introduced to the world by Adam.
>>556002831
Also incorrect, we don't have a "defined cluster of genes" that marks something as "chicken" and coloquially all sort of people would have different cutoffs for which "evolutionary iteration" counts as "chicken"
NDG is his own god so presumes himself the arbiter of chickenly-ness, but he isn't an authority even in human domains.

The first day of the third game of the 75th Osho title match is being played, between Takuya Nagase (sente) and Sota Fujii (the Osho title holder). The match is a best of seven (tied at 1-1), and the time control is 8 hours per player over two days.
The opening of this game was double static rook, however, unlike games 1 and 2, it isn't bishop exchange. At first, it looked like Fujii might play Gangi (an opening he's played a couple times in title matches as Gote), however, he's instead played a weird reclining gold setup. Nagase as sente has the usual anti-gangi position.
