>Are mystery dungeon games allowed in this thread?
Generally yes, most mystery dungeon games(Shiren the Wanderer, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Etrian Mystery Dungeon, etc.) can be considered roguelikes
>Is Elin/Elona allowed?
Yes, they are roguelikes. Please do not post your Little Sister farms
>Is Dwarf Fortress allowed?
If it's adventure mode, yes. But adventure mode is boring. /tg/ has a general for fortress mode playthroughs but you can share here too!

seems kinda pointless to even try, since the real one looks like this.
and shiiiieeeet i didnt realize the electric jackhammers had a 33 tile extension cord. i never bothered ever collecting/using them because i thought youd have to do some annoying shit to recharge them. you can just hook it to the dash of any car, fuggg

Mini coopers look terrible in general.
I'll never know how they managed to fuck up such an iconic design.
Not to mention they aren't even small.

Just don't do this in real life unless your battery is rated for it. I can't even hook a phone charger up to my console much less a laptop charger or jackhammer without permanently draining the battery.

Here i am over a month in game and 45 real life hours.
CLG is a very slow burn but i like the challenge.
My character is eating mutant meat a lot and i think its making him sick. He is losing weight and there are messages like "your body is struggling.", yet when i wake up it says stuff like "you spring up full of energy ready for anything."
Crafted a hand crossbow, not worth, shotbow is still better with cheaper ammo.
Got a wind turbine on my house, doesnt power enough for the freezers though so i still rely on gas.
My limiting factors are flour (none), solder, welding rods and gasoline.

Even if you don't intend to make farmers farm all of your crops for you, they're still always invaluable to have around because the job gardening/farming passively increases the soil fertility of your homestead, allowing you to plant more crops before you start getting the dreaded (too withered to be harvested)

version 1.7.2 worked perfectly on my machine, but neither 1.8.4 nor 1.9.1 work. The game doesn't even start just shows the splash screen and then crashes.
I can only assume the dev only tests the game on linux and not on Windows.

Is there any way to craft the (explosives) component in Quasimorph?
It feels incredibly silly being able to unlock the grenade recipes, but the only way I've found to make grenades is to... dismantle grenades?
Seems fairly redundant since every other recipe in the game seems fairly forgiving with how to obtain materials within in given category, dismantling less useful energy weapons allows you to craft your own suited up weapons, same with armor, but grenades seem like this weird redundant thing, why would you dismantle grenades in place of using them? and even when there's the less useful makeshift bombs, thats still an entirely valuable inventory slot for something that might not even drop more than once or twice in the entire mission

They're humans from a parallel reality that was killed by a zombie apocalypse earlier and they've been hopping from reality to reality for probably generations, trying to stay ahead of it. They're responsible for most or all of the bionics found in DDA. They have the dumbest faction name I have ever seen in a video game. If you're too fancy to just call them "exiles", then how about "exodes"? They're supposed to speak English, more or less.
>>
>>555733606
exodii sounds exotic, of course. rule of cool. the faction sounds retarded though. cdda is not the zombie apocalypse, it's the everything apocalypse, and it's all because our scientists got out over their skies and opened portals to other realities, where horrors exist. that's the lore i remember.
what i remember when i got into the game, the cdda lore was that technology has gotten super advanced, far enough that a bunch of technocrats could destroy the world. which they do. a prescient tale of caution for present times, as they ACTUALLY try to instantiate the digital go, irl..

Part of the DDA anti-fun pogrom has been to remove all that futuristic tech and give it to the exodii, because the baseline of DDA is now supposed to be our real world, and the only thing the labs invented was portal tech, everything else comes after.

One thing i like about cata is how all skills are useful.
Topic of discussion came up playing zomboid with a friend. Pottery, masonry, carving, GLASSMAKING!? like we dont need those skills, and what do they do? Electronics is useless beyond level 1 because then you know how to hotwire cars.
Meanwhile in cata.
>Science skill allows you to make bombs and convert bodies into fuel
>Electronics is used for car battery powered noise makers that draw a whole city block, and remote controls for remote detonation explosives.
>Archery
>Computers allows you to hack safes to get the loot inside. Admittedly i think the skill is lacking
>Survival skill allows you to use more out of the random things you find in the world.
>Food preperation that isnt just stir fries and roasts, we making cheese, alcohols and exotic dishes.
And all the fine details come under proficiencies which just increase skill and speed. Carving prof? get yourself a nice speed bonus. Pottery? speed+xp.
Anyway train of thought and rant over.
>>
>>555748921
>Pottery, masonry, carving, GLASSMAKING!? like we dont need those skills, and what do they do? Electronics is useless beyond level 1 because then you know how to hotwire cars.
This is exactly how it works in real life though. If your main concern is realism then that's how you should do it in cata. All of those skills are worthless in the modern day and especially in the post apocalypse when there are a million billion identical pots and a million billion empty buildings made of bricks you can just take. The only exception I can see is if you had a very advanced chemistry system in the game for which you needed specifically sized beakers and you couldn't think of an easy way to get them in a rural area.
If you want a FUN solution that almost necessarily means giving up alot of realism. zomboid went for realism and IMO had to give up alot of fun to do so.

you might suffer depressant overdose and just stop breathing and die but I've never gone ham to find out

>All of those skills are worthless in the modern day and especially in the post apocalypse when there are a million billion identical pots and a million billion empty buildings made of bricks you can just take.
this, when you think about the sheer amount of stuff means being the last guy on earth or at least in your neighborhood makes you incredibly rich. think of how much shit is in a store. walk into a home depot if you have never been; they are temples to hardware.
of course if the civil unrest has been going on for months, and supply chains were frozen for weeks before everything collapsed, then it's possible a lot of hoarding and looting has depleted local stores. in Project Zomboid things go to shit real fast, i forget what the timeline in cata is. if it's over in a couple days, you could probably walk into a fully stocked walmart.
i think Cata should have more loot, but one of the devs in DDA thinks the game is fun if you have to scrounge for a spoon.

Elin absolutely can be one of those games, it's incredibly accessible and easy to get into, but it also does a very good job of pulling you deeper into the rabbithole by not showing you all of the mechanics at once and instead letting you fall into that slippery slope much later on. I often found myself with a wikia page open to consult homestead stuff when I was playing a few months ago

It's not any better than normal guns, worse in fact.
Unless you really enjoy the caliber swapping gimmick. And even then it's arguably better to carry multiple guns.
Hub armor, however, is better than anything in vanilla DDA.
>>
>>
>>555781329
Are they now?
Last I played DDA, the bigger HWP mags were gated behind lengthy and buggy hub mission chain that's not worth your time.
Not that it makes a big difference, a modded rifle with better recoil control plus a bunch of quickly accessible stanag mags is faster for accurate sustained fire including mag changes. In case you haven't already found stanag-compatible drug mags by the time you're done with hub stuff.

Cogmind rewards stealth a lot, it's a better strategy than combat most of the time. There's no XP in the game, but basically you get to preserve your items (which are also your health bar), the food clock is slower, and you have way more sensor info to make decisions with. You know where exits are, you know where enemies are, you can map out the surrounding walls, etc. Doesn't even technically have a stealth mechanic, you're just so aware that you can dodge patrols and dig through just the right places so nobody ever comes into line of sight with you.

>can you still dig pits and trap them?
That would take too much time.
>any mi-gos around you can kite to tie him up?
Hey... local wildlife is an option. There's bound to be some ants or wasps nearby.
The only time ive killed something close was a skeletal juggernaut, and it took a magdump of 5.56, in a 1v1 interior corridor. This is kevlar outside with still loads more zombies about.

>>555842392
kevlar hulks are not that much more dangerous than skeletal juggernauts, I've killed them with melee in BN but it's unadvisable without power armor, good stats, and barbaran montante
without the unnerfed melee and cracked martial arts in BN I don't think it'll work
>>
>>555862314
Potential is how fast you accumulate experience, It's an experience multiplier that makes you earn EXP faster the higher your potential is, and gets used up a little with every level. (I don't know the exact formula.) The base values are determined by your race and class combination, then increased by feats, food, and following a God.
There are skill trainers in every town that increase your potential for platinum coins. This doesn't increase your level directly but instead gives you a big multiplier, you get platinum coins by completing quests or rare drops from dungeons and special animals.
>>
>>555868807
>I've killed them with melee in BN but it's unadvisable without power armor, good stats, and barbaran montante
The only thing you need is kinetic shock absorbers, decent dmg and possibly some decentish armour so it doesn't bleed you

You CAN kill a Kevlar Hulk with a coilgun, but it'll take between 100 and 150 nails.
It's also not actually immune to fire, just resistant.
If you manage to find (or make) a laser weapon, those work really well.

Best book storage is a laptop inside your deathmobile, backed up to external storage.
Everything except the bionics are vulnerable to losing all data from high tier electric zombies' EMP. Waterproofing is not a big deal, waterproof phone cases are common enough.

"i bristle" oh myyy goddddd. but check this out. its just something i remembered trying out, they figure that 50% of the time you spend trying to read sentences is moving your eyes and tracking the sentence, so if you use an app to make each word appear in the same spot, centered, you can double your reading speed. i already do 600 wpm, so i can do like 1000 wpm, but at 600 wpm im already at my limit of retention so its not really useful. but its cool to see/try

>I don't know why this build works
Too lazy to open Achra and check rn
Pretty sure either the staff or maybe the hat do damage on meditate gain, star cult gives you +meditate on summon. Crystal Rod replicates that at recursively lower range.
So you enter, spawn ten dudes and do something like 80 damage instances (160 if Ragna Wrap is Astral to Fire, which I'm pretty sure it is) and Willpower+Meditate means your Ragna Wraps "50% redeal" is actually INCREASING in damage
Anyways, summon builds are quite strong in Cycle 32, just that their weaknesses are more amplified and many summons that were "interesting" in single digit cycles are borderline useless. Typically you're more abusing triggers and debuff procs with your summons- But those would be VERY strong in lower cycles anyways, y'know what I'm saying?

Funnily enough I considered it a failed run until realm 14, it was hard carried by the slimed vest that spawns a slime on getting hit and the high HP slimed pet. The secret ingredient is the skill that fears enemies hit by your eye spells, late game is just pic rel, enemies running in fear uselessly while you stand in a corner mashing 5.
Both Ion Tentacles and Floating Eye are completely unnecessary and I took them because they have upgrades that makes them stronger from your eye spells, Pyrostatic Curse I took in ream 21 just to spend SP. The true hardhitters of eye spells are
>Eye of Fire with recast on kill upgrade
Carries your early game, pick realms where you can oneshot the enemy
>Eye of Ice with the upgrade that lets you have multiple of it up at the same time
Pure increase in eye hits per turn, meaning fear procs. Recasting it both increases the amount and resets the duration, so stack it.
>Eye of Rage with the upgrade that spreads it to nearby enemies
Makes a joke out of clustered enemies, bone shamblers just stop mattering. If every enemy is next to another, then every enemy gets berserked
>Eye of Blood with the 'hit everything in line of sight' upgrade
Replaces your Eye of Fire late game as a fodder cleaner and your goto heal, the increase in hit cd and the steep SP cost are painful but worth it. It SHOULD also proc fear on every single enemy you can see but sometimes it didn't in my game, maybe I'm wrong and they were later spawns. Worth it regardless.
That just leaves the Eye of Lightning which does fuckall sans being a +1 to fear procs per turn. The upgrade that makes it cast Thunderstrike should in theory make it very strong, stunlocking enemies and keeping you safe, but I didn't take it because I gave up on the run and then forgot to upgrade lmao.
Feels like a really solid build if optimized, I'm going to try again with these insights.

Oh, they've finally done that?
The truth is Cata's character systems are so loose there is point trying to balance them for minmaxers.
Just pick whatever backgrounds and traits you want. Like. actually role-play not roll-play.
As for the numerical stats, 8 used to be the norm for characters with limited point pools. 10 was really good. Going much higher than that was not feasible during character creation.

Yeah, just did another run. If you don't get Balor's Eye Staff you will be doing 0 damage later from eyes, but since you have many different damage types, invest in skills that trigger off of dealing a certain damage type, you will create repeats easily. Feel a bit bad since I had so many pets and summons and it didn't feel like an eye run, but no idea how you can win in RF2 without minions in general.
Also Eye of Lightning with Thunderstrike is very nice, if you take Thunderstrike itself and make it do Holy you will not have to worry about source of Holy damage without skills.

>no idea how you can win in RF2 without minions in general
I do think it's harder, but by no means impossible. If your issue is surviving, Word of Chaos will support pretty much any build. If your issue is spell charges, you just gotta find more synergies to blow shit up. Until a recent change, I think silver spear was a pretty reliable one spell win just due to how it interacts with certain mechanics.

To tell you the truth I'm more confused how you are meant to deal damage in any late realm. The enemy HP scales much harder than damage spells and items, and you have limited charges. Minions are basically free damage, slime variants are infinite supply even, to not mention spawners
Granted I'm a retard who played a few runs learning the game, seeing eye spells and doubling down my autism into making them work..

It's pretty common to wind up with Prince of Ruin, Starfire, Cracklevoid, and a damage redeal hat. Chain reactions do a lot of heavy lifting. What you have access to in terms of passives depends on your element though.

It's all about synergies and chains, like anon said. Something like Prince of Ruin alone can deal with a bunch of bone shambler spam and the like. Something like Disintegrator helps deal with a bunch of shields. And of course you can prioritize spawners and summoners to cut down on attrition.

not really related; but i remember playing a Star Trek game that was entirely HTML based. it was honestly very ahead of it's time. i never got super into the mechanics because i was like 9, but you commanded a ship, flew around doing missions and killing klingons and romulans.

Achra kinda seems like slop. I nearly won first try not knowing how anything works lol. I picked the fatty, did nothing but level strength, sacrificed basically every item, chose sickness, poison, corrosive for my abilities, and then I changed my class into a sickness monk or whatever. I guess that's the appeal?

There are absolutely situations like that, you just need to ensure your build can handle them. For example if the fodder is 5 hp then with disintegrator you just need to do 200 direct damage and you can clear out a whole screen.

Having trouble with cdda innawoods.
Problem is basically this:
Fabric cutting is a retarded tool skill, which hard locks even the most basic fabric crafts behind metallurgy, which is just absurd.
Leather tanning isn't discoverable so players are ALL left pulling their hair out guessing which skill, tool or build is needed to tan Leather. And this just fucks up the early game for every new player.
Applied science, the last skill you'd expect, is unobtainium because there aren't many practices or level 1+2 crafts, and there's a clear order of operations issue here.
Every player will fail, every single time. Can't get to applied science early enough, can't craft leather, can't cut cloth. If you don't start with applied science you are walking dead
>>
Easy fix:
Curing a number of hides (assume survival 3) will discover tanning, failure rate of tanning dependent on applied science, survival, so you can rush it at the cost of wasted cure hide.
Basic clothing out of raw hide/tained hide.
Fabric cutting gets more levels, so any blade has at least 1 fabric cutting. All knives can cut cloth. So can broken glass, sharp rocks. There's a technique where you basically abraid the cloth on a field stone to get exact cuts. Time taken dependent on the strength of the cloth.

>>
>>556146986
Pretty simple to cheese TRJ if you've got a torment scroll + immolation scroll and some ranged damage (like evokables since you're gnoll). Just try to have some extra resists on so you don't get chunked as much in the process. Vaults are probably the worst option for you, rElec is nice to have there and there's a bunch of stuff that summons just don't deal with fast enough imo. Abyss has been fairly easy for me the last few times I've tried, but maybe that's just luck. Try to boost sustain if you can. That berserk will be annoying there though.

Just passing here to say that if you like Nethack, you should consider checking out Dnethack, it adds a lot of good, elaborate custom content to the game, together with nice QOL tweaks, like auto-unlock and freely swapping places with peaceful monsters. It's currently my favorite Nethack variant.

I managed to fix the motor, but the reactor's going to take a bit more work.
It flies on battery power, but the range is a bit limited. This is while accelerating, at a responsible 200 km/h cruise speed I get 12 minutes. Which isn't even bad in Cataclysm terms, that's like 40 kilometers.
I guess I could also install the super motor into a different vehicle, but I'm not sure what could possibly get that's cooler than an assault helicopter.
>>
>>556163280
I don't think it matters now that they've removed the limit on number of engines, but it used to be important if you wanted to have decent acceleration in an electric deathmobile while also having a large 1 cylinder generator as backup
but now you can just install two enhanced electric engines and a generator and be fine so who cares

It gets harder as you go along, to an extent. I'm currently on cycle 18 and it's kicking my shit in.

>inb4 why guard
I panicked cuz the final boss was taking me down to 10% of my HP over and over. The spell that teleports you to the closest enemy was honestly pretty suicidal. If I ever do another one of these I'll just spam the meditation wizards. Way less risky.

>>

i prefer the staff one. uses quarterstaffs or a bo (japanese quarterstaff). every coat rack in the game can be disassembled for a long stick, which can be turned into a quarterstaff... all you need is a knife. use it until it breaks and make another.
that staff martial art has lots of dodging and blocking, sometimes i feel invincible using it.

Cj is really forgiving, Iskenderun's Mystic Blast is incredibly good especially for beginners and doubly so with Vehument giving it a range buff. IE is often recommended and is a bit better but you need to know the game a little bit more to make full use of it. Cj you can just blast IMB until you finish Lair/Orc/D:15 and you find or get gifted a conjuration spell you can win with (fireball/starbust, arcjolt, bombard).
