The scenes, I actually liked. Wish Merchant and Lars had better scenes though, compared to the other ones. Gameplay was fine if you ask me, I didn't get lost that much somehow, and there aren't really that many dead ends. The combat was neat too.
Characters, the only ones I didn't really like by the end were Merchant and Piro. They didn't do that much.

Actual review: The game might be better than Roots overall. The setting is more oppressive, the pacing is better thanks to the flashback sections and the difficulty is easy but not Roots easy where Ange laughs at anything that isn't a superboss. The tank in this game doesn't have infinite evade and can actually do more than 0 damage, so you miss out on some noticeable DPS if you go full tank/ support with him. This problem was so bad in Roots that it affected the narrative, hard to feel like you could lose and get sent to the bad end dungeon at any moment when Ange is so OP.
Roots does do some things better though.
The banter between the team is better in Roots, maybe it's comparable in the flashback sections, but outside of those there's too much Louise and Tiara wanting to fuck while Hollow Knight "..."s at them. It gets better when you have more characters, but a lot of the time either you don't or the dynamic is still basically the same.
Roots also has more and better big moments while KE stays consistently good but rarely stands out as much. I still think KE wins here because it never drops the ball with things like Roots' "suggestion" or Diana dying dramatically only to get revived 5 minutes later.
Lastly the final boss, Roots wins there. KE comes close, but Blurse is hard to beat. The buildup, the like 7 stages of the fight, the setting as you fight while falling to the void, and the dev basically cheating by making Shade compose the music, it's too good. Also in general in terms of combat I missed being able to switch my party mid-fight, you don't need it as much here with the smaller teams, but I still missed it in a few sections

Good question, I don't know either since I skipped all of it.
The only thing I can say for sure is that it's more in your face since there's no side areas like in Roots to put most of it in, so every so often the game will toss a scene at you. There's also a bunch of bad ends, but you can unlock the scenes near the end of the game if you don't want to intentionally lose.
Content-wise I don't know, I just assume it's more of the same that was in Roots but with a pink MC

I don't think I can talk about it at length without it devolving into a slew of criticisms, but I didn't have a bad time with it in the moment, the storytelling was competent. The protagonist feels he can't satisfy his wife because he didn't put enough points into STR and CON, so he gets her a strapping young lad to fuck her in the hopes that he'll get to "see her at her most beautiful", hence the title. And then that's what happens, the end. There's 6 h-scenes, a lot of yapping and the protagonist monologuing about his feefees, and no gameplay aside from getting to control the mc as he walks down a hallway to watch his wife have sex. This part is especially funny because the store page spins it into some sophisticated and deliberate design choice, like a chef in a Michelin star restaurant describing a microwave burrito. Anyways, it's a rare instance of the so-called "pure NTS" fetish, so if you're starved for that you'll probably enjoy it.

Ehh I liked Demons *a lot* more, in almost every way KE feels like a prototype version, many moments and climaxes would later be used in demons a lot more effectively, the banter was not only better in demons but also the individual characters arcs, the combat is way less annoying in demons too, thare are also more unique sprites and assets in demons and so forth, I could continue for every aspect of the game
I do agree KE is slightly more balanced combat-wise, but the last dungeon was a fucking boss rush snoozefest, it killed all the momentum for me
I don't regret playing it I guess, but at most it's a 6-7/10

I was reading the dev's reflections on his cien and he talks about having to basically push away the side of him that was a critic during development otherwise he'd never have released the game. But all his criticisms after the fact are spot on, which is kind of nice to see, a lot of devs are really hesitant to levy specific criticisms against themselves publicly, or are just bad at identifying what exactly went wrong.
