Sevagoth shield gates naturally because he's kind of a spammy caster anyway. You refresh Roar and Sow when they run out, and you use Reap when enemies get kinda close. It's not like your play pattern is one thing before you take damage and you have a separate button that's only relevant when you want to stay alive. Well, you can treat Shadow that way, but it's also fun in its own right and can trigger the one shot combo if for some reason Sevagoth himself runs out of energy.

Gloom isn't even for survivability on Sevagoth because he doesn't have enough armor to health tank. Even with a triple umbral setup he only has 500, which is what actual health tank frames have unmodded. This means you can technically force it with persistence + armor archon shards but that's just for fun and not that great.
His actual survivability is shield gating, with Gloom just being an expensive slow, but if you just want CC there are still better options.

It moves me deep within my heart to watch a Wisp meleeing over and over into the bloated chest of a long-dead enemy.

Gentlemen... All I ask for is Wisp butt, Wisp butt so grand as to make Hell itself tremble. Gentlemen, I ask you as fellow brothers in arms what is it that you really want? Do you wish for further Wisp as I do? Do you wish for a merciless, bloody Wisp? A Wisp whose fury is built with iron and lightning and fire? Other anons already said this, but unless you have a very specific idea of what elements you want and why you want them, you should just put viral+heat on every weapon. Try to get a mod config like this for your rifle. This is pretty low cost in terms of endo, all the mods are very accessible, and it fits on any rifle that has a catalyst installed.
