>VV is a good game
No good game would have:
>Atrocious designs
>Day one DLC
>Awful voice acting
>Poorly designed dungeons
>No variety in environments
>Treating the people who bought the vanilla version like crap by being extremely stingy with the save data bonuses
>Dogshit writing
>Nerfing playable characters because they're no longer DLC
>Having two endings but one of them has dev bias since they actually get a proper boss fight and more satisfying conclusion when compared to the other
>Shitty completion rewards

I generally like P3 but I feel it gets a little wonky when Aegis gets introduced up until Ikutsuki (the ikutsuki evil lore in p4a is also retarded imo) then it catches its second wind. I wish there was a bit more fluff to it imo but it's still a great time.

Was playing SMTV the other day and found Demeter wandering around and this piece of dialog sounded menacing in a funny shitpost way to me. Decided to make a drawing about it.
Drawing her has made me realize why she is one of my favorite Doimons, her design is amazing and full of detail.

compare with his Kuzunoha (the fox spirit) design being SMT1 Lilith in a kimono
>>555972838
the layered clothing combine with the body tattoos/facepaint are a good mix, even if it's 90% just that JC Leyendecker painting. more designs like that and less with "i drew something and then spent 10 minutes adding pointless swirls or drawing dogshit musculature" would be nice.

She is from something that was advertised as a SMT and Fire Emblem crossover, what we got in the end was idolshit that didn't really take anything from either series other than the names of the totally not personas and some characters and the gameplay is somewhat SMT inspired and it has the SMT names for spells if I remember but otherwise it's totally different from both

That feels like a big change then because they explain he's some kind of demon or god that part of the Amatsu and that changes the context entirely. Unless they are saying the admiral from the Imperial Navy is also a god.

Hes actually still an admiral even in the remaster. They carelessly left in one NPC's line of dialogue where hes still referred to as an admiral because they copypasted it from the PS2 version. So even if they didn't want it to be, its still canon.
Theres also dialogue copypasted from the PS2 version in one of the bars where a character tells you to remember to buy plenty of elemental bullets, a mechanic that was cut and is not present in the remaster.

2030 at its earliest, atlus will probably make them appear busy for the next few years by remastering their older catalogue and make them available in newer consoles but god knows what will happen when they finally run out of those.

I'd imagine 2035 at best. You have to remember that SMT VI hasn't entered development yet and every team is doing their own thing(P-Studio working on P4R & P6, EO team working on EO, Team Maniax working on Raidou 2).

You mean you weren't EXCITED and HYPED at the incredible return of Aogami to claim his boywife for all eternity regardless of ending while his brother is cucked to death in the EXACT same scene? You didn't stand up and CLAP!? Are you RETARDED!?!?!?
>>
>>556048290
No, Aogami is boring. I also tookYoko's hand which I guess it's Chaos becauseMastemagot all mad. I don't feel like a Chaos badass to be honest the last 20 or so hours have been very underwhelming, I don't feel like I'm about to beat the game. Weak climax so far.
>>
>>556048751
That ending isn't about badass chaos, it's more like sympathy for the oppressed. I wouldn't blame you for thinking that is boring but at the same time world of STR is so over done in mainline since III it was getting obnoxious. Also if you want a real destroy everything and fuck off, get the destroy the throne ending in CoC. That's more destructive feeling than CoV chaos, unironically.

>about to destroy the throne
>get cucked out of it because of Lucifer fight
>don't get to see the world being destroyed
>just pointless scene of escorting Yoko out of the Nahobino's soul
Was it more interesting than Tao's ending scene of watching school kids fucking around, yes. But I would have rather seen him destroy the throne and then wipe out the world itself with raw power and flood it into an eternal primordial ocean. That would have been fucking cool.
>>
>>
>>556054517
What's going on in that ending is explained in the game it's just scattered all over the place between different character. It's messy as fuck and it makes it so you don't really know what you're signing up to do besides destroy the world but that makes it sound like a horrible idea and is more so done for sympathy without any context. After you piece everything together, what you're actually doing is this:
>Fight Lucifer to have the power to destroy the world
>Destroying the world means it has to be rebuilt from scratch without a throne
>It's going to be an endless water world because that's how the primordial world was in the beginning
>Nahobino has to remake everything, including making new demons and humans by himself (he's two people so that's probably the loophole has to how he can do that)
>Essentially he kills Tiamat and takes her place in chaos, everything she was going to do, he does instead
>Yoko is the "goddess of chaos" essentially a guide and advisor, basically the same role Tao takes alongside the Nahobino in the law end
>it will be a road of hardship where demons are constantly trying to kill the Nahobino
>humans that die in that world can't be reincarnated and will wander eternally as spirits
>it is a world of eternal darkness
It sounds like a hellhole but there is the potential it will get better as the trade off. It's a fresh start but the primordial world is pure shit.
>>
>>
>>
>>556054098
I like the symbolism, V and Yoko leave the tree of knowledge hand in hand while the snake chills, a stark contrast to the messy ending Adam and Eve go through. It implies that the world without the thrones curse really will be one for the oppressed.
>>
>>556058003
I think you forget that most smt games explain exactly what happens in the ending you pick and CoV chaos is annoying because it's one of the few endings that tries to be ambiguous but not really. It actually explains itself just in an extremely messy way. And it's only messy because you're stuck with Tao through all of Taito. There should have been a branching path where you take Tao or Yoko through that area and then they explain their ending to you through that segment. They fucked it up.
>>
>>
>>556059309
>I think you forget that most smt games explain exactly what happens in the ending you pick
I think I just ignore it because it doesn't matter. Nocturne had the right idea of just rolling credits after a character congratulates you on getting the ending you wanted. The endings of these games are ideas not events.

And that's not only incredibly stupid you missed the point of Nocturne because every single reason was explained to you. An the only reason that wasn't explained to you, Yuko's, you get a cutscene showing what that world looks like. There is no excuse as to why Yoko's ending was as sloppy as it was. Plenty of people have bitched about it on the Japanese side for the exact reason. They pick her ending via alignment and don't even know what they are signing up for.
>>
>>556072682
>every single reason was explained to you
As ideas. They don't give any information about the aftermath or systems that would be in place. The endings in Nocturne are all intentionally vague except for arguably the freedom ending which is just the standard return to status quo. The game very much intends for you to pick your ending based on vibes and less on theorizing how a world of solitude is even supposed to work.
>>
>>556073756
>They don't give any information about the aftermath or systems that would be in place
Jesus christ, they are all incredibly straight forward.
>the strong rule over the weak
>everyone gets their own little world to themselves
>everyone attains pure bliss enlightenment, release from samsara
You know exactly what these worlds will look like and how you make them. You don't need hyper specifics. In Yoko's end she says you destroy the world and then explains nothing about how it's rebuilt within the ending itself. This is especially bad because you get a big warning from Mastema that there will be huge human suffering but she says nothing about it, she neither refutes it or says "Yeah that will happen but-". And you have to see that line from him, it's in a cutscene. It's not like it's optional dialog tucked away somewhere.
>>
>>556074703
>"You don't need hyper specifics"
>asks for hyper specifics on how the world is supposed to be rebuilt
IT DOESN'T MATTER! The game askes me to my face if I think the current system is worth salvaging or not and I answered no. I don't need anymore information than that.
>>
>>
>>556075605
The process for deleting and remaking that system is what matters. That was the whole issue with accepting that option and why the Qadištu were considered too evil to side with during the first half of the game. Aogami himself even says their desire is too sinister before he "dies". When it comes time to accept Yoko or not you basically have to ignore all the warnings you heard before hand regarding the cost of a full restart. It's why you have wild opinions regarding that ending from people who think Yoko's ending has zero downsides to it because Yoko does nothing to refute or discuss the ending. I guess I just don't know why people would be happy with an ending that isn't explained when Tao's ending got plenty of explanation.
>>
>>556077192
And Tao's ending hinges on the "potential" of Bino being able to fix the system the past creators broke. Neither is a guaranteed spelt out in front of you fix to all problems. The only thing that matters is which one you personally think is the best solution. Whether or not they work out is not something we should ever know.
>>
>>556077868
>The process for deleting and remaking that system is what matters
Not it isn't. It's literally interchangeable with any other restart button from a nuke to a new dimension. Once again you are getting lost in the "how?" When the only thing that matters is the question the game asks you for the entire game. "You wanna reset or try to fix this shit?"
>>
>>
>>556078493
If that's the case, the answer would always be erase. In the cutscene where you choose between Yoko and Tao, Yoko makes every case for why the world can't be fixed and Tao is purely hoping against hope. Tao makes no counter argument regarding the downsides of Yoko's vision besides "wouldn't it be sad to lose all our heckin progress? :(" and that isn't an argument. Instead Tao should have brought up the fact that you have to turn the world into an endless water world of complete darkness and human suffering but if she did Yoko's ending would be unjustifiable just as it was for the Qadištu at the start of the game.
>>
>>556078101
>>556077192
neutral bros... where did our trusty fence go?
>>
>>556080756
Tao is arguing for the existing people, she brings up all the characters as deserving to have their wishes heard and says that Yoko will just erase them. It's a pretty sentimental argument, but it works for her character. They should've kept the original description of her ending, though. I actually wonder what happened there.
>>
>>556080756
I think you are too autistic for the narrative of this game. You keep hyper focusing on the little details instead of the bigger picture. All of your conjecture of "x said this therefore y is the better ending" is pointless. Heaven forbid you ever read a book or watch a movie with an ending that's up to interpretation. The process of changing the world is not a new concept in these games and the method to do so will keep changing from game to game. Everything about the throne and the tree is just background details for what is ultimately the player deciding which world they want to create. In Vengeance you have two options and the game argues them back and forth between the two main heroines until the end when they stand apart from one another and you have to choose. The one you pick is the one that happens and that's it.
>>
>>556081770
They should have kept that explanation and also added another one for Yoko's ending. Both could have used it. At the very least though, everything said in that cut narration is just a rehash of everything Yoko said would happen so it's not that big of a loss.
>>
I really want the next SMT to have the same vibes as the first DESU. We had 5 post-apocalyptic games in a row, it would be interesting to have a game about societal collapse as the apocalypse is still happening.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>556082225
Out of all your problems with Yoko's ending, that's the one you have? Not the fact that she disappears for the entire last fourth of the game, which just rehashes the last fourth of Vanilla with some changes and more Tao dialogue, and then just returns at the end (and then most of her route's final hour is just an obvious recolor of Tao's)?
>>

What is explained to you in Tao's ending that isn't in Yoko's that you are having such a problem with exactly? Because it's not like she lays out the step by step process on how she's going to fix the world she just says she's going to try and then you get a vague cutscene with the main cast being upbeat but there isn't a single detail about what she did besides restoring the old world. Not that I think that should be explained because I completely understood what both endings were trying to accomplish already.
>>

>>
>>556085175
>hey beano now that we have some time to chat let me lay down all the finer details about my ending like how exactly we are going to rebuild the world and what is going to happen to people's souls and shit
I would have been very upset if an alignment rep tried to explain that shit to me.

That didn't explain shit wtf. All she said is what she WANTS to do not how she's going to do it.
>I want to save people who are suffering in this broken world
>the reason for all the suffering is because the creator made it this way
>so we have to do better to create a perfect world
>a world where all of humanity's can come true
>it won't be easy but we can do it
Damn you sure sold me Tao. With logic like that who needs a full reset.
>>
>>
>>556092447
>why does she have to explain that part
She doesn't that's my whole point if you haven't been paying attention. This is apparently the clarification that Yoko's ending needed to be understood by people.
>>
>>556092625
The throne when taken makes whatever world you envision a reality. You're told that well before Taito and it was in the original game. So she doesn't need to explain that taking the throne does that. It would be a rehash of info you already know. In regards to creating a world without a throne, there is nothing in game that explains how it works or if it's even possible unless you dig around for clarification.

She's not a neutral heroine, she's just tragedy bait because of her illness, and she's a bit of Yuzuru's motivation for the whole world of myriad gods nonsense... then there's Vengeance, where she's pissed off at koshimizu for fusing with the MC, and that's about it.

Was gonna ask if the IJN Admiral technically being a bad guy you take down be good enough to not be censored, but this screenshot shows me that merely being possessed probably wouldn't be good enough for those still understandably pissed about Japan's WW2 war crimes. Hell, even the censorship seems kinda half-assed in this screenshot right there.

He's had many names and harassed many generals. He's Avery because in his shitposting spree one time he doxed himself. He also revealed info about himself to some anon on discord and he posted the chat logs in smtg to give us a look into his sick head. He has a lot of family problems and self loathes himself for his unironic pedophilia which is why he's obsessed with Alice. He also posts on /pol/ and brings that shit posting here (like after Charlie Kirk died he kept saying everyone was trying to kill him here). It's also why he has to post that one IV meme in every single thread mocking some left wing e-celeb no one gives a shit about. He's easy to spot.

I will say Hijiri being the reincarnation of Aleph was definitely not originally intended by the OG devs. But I will also say that with the new maniax content it isn't exactly out of left field that the rerelease that added a fuck load of references to SMT 2 is possibly insinuating a connection between Aleph and Hijiri.

So I beat SMT VV but got the law ending. Whose bright idea was it to lock the player out of the true ending because you wanted to take a girls hand? Also who the fuck designed the ugly as fuck desert Minato map and who was the level designer for Shinjuku? I hated going around Shinjuku trying to find all the Miman and how vertical that map was. Platforming in Nocturne was done way better this was doing too much. Beyond that the story and the combat was fun. Should I play Raidou remastered now or Soul Hackers 2? I play on PC. No I won't play Pissona.

Yes it was simpler and I liked it, Fatlus should take notes on how to design levels from RGG. I just want a demon that is always in your stock that grows and changes depending on the route and choices, hell have it so it shares a slot with the MC and it is the one casting magic to have a normal person as the MC again
Imagine something like you start the game with a baby dragon and making chaos choices makes it look more like an european dragon and law choices make it more like an asian dragon, raising affinities changes the color of the scales and after reaching a certain amount of points in certain stats some features change like getting high str makes it bulkier while getting high luck makes the horns bigger, tie it getting older with progression and you have a very interesting feature, you could even make it so if you do certain things you get a named form like, in the dragon example, if you go law and give it ice and force affinities it ends up as Seiryu and if you go chaos and hoard money and items to a certain value you can make it Fafnir
Doesn't have to be a dragon mind you it could work with a lot of creatures that have a lot of myths around it like cats or birds

fusion is cool but it could really use for some variety. the persona 2 epic gameplay hack is to pick an element thats easiest for your current personas to make an aoe fusion spell and spam that because demons without any elemental resistances are very common and it becomes a bit braindead of spamming fusion spells to win. its a very cool concept i just think it needs more work/to be expanded on

It is very different. Aogami looks sad as if he's mentally saying "this is my fault" in his usual self hating way. Tsukuyomi instead looks at the MC angry as fuck as if saying "this is your fault". The difference is funny.

Is Vengeance worth getting? I played SMTV at launch but found the story and lack of dungeons quite disappointing. My biggest gripe though was how level scaling worked. From what I remember it would be practically impossible to beat certain encounters if you were more than a couple levels lower than whatever you were fighting, regardless of however good of a team you had put together. Did Vengeance fix any of that?
>>
>>
>>556226613
Yes, vv is how v was supposed to be, I legitimately felt scammed when I bought v, never ever buying an atlus game on release again, I just wait for the eventual rerelease
>how level scaling worked
Everyone was mass complaining about that shit, it was genuinely an horrible decision
>>
>>
>>556229283
Oh we remember. It was like 50/50.
The defenders here were even saying the level scaling wasn't even a thing and it was the same as every other game right up until atlus specifically outlined that they reduced the overtuned level scaling in that VV new features presentation and then those people crawled back under whatever log of shit they came from and pretended like they hadn't been saying that retarded shit for years
>>
>>556229283
Ngl the defenders might've been trolls or people who started the series with V because of the femboy mc and wanted to defend the game as much as possible, anyone who played V could notice the insane level scaling, and there was a decent amount of youtube videos talking about it

This is incorrect on various level. The argument was never for level scaling but rather that nobody here seemed to understand how it worked and just parrotted what e-celebs said about it. In truth you could beat pretty much everything in a 10 level deadband in the original game, and the biggest culprit for why it was so violently OP was the calculations around VIT being outrageously overturned. So universally everyone prefers VV since level was nerfed across the board, and I support that but also if you actually look at how VV works, guess what? VIT is still demonstrably the best stat and pumping it will have the same effect as level scaling in the original.

Never played the original SMT and I wanted to see what it was like.
Been watching bits and pieces of this speedrun video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SWqTPzr2lg
Some things I noted:
1. Lots of tracks that sounded familiar and I realize ended up getting remixed for later SMT games (like Metatron's track and the Ginza track in Nocturne, to name just two that I heard as I was skipping through different parts of the speedrun).
2. Demon negotiation was just as cancerous and seemingly random back then as it is now (this speedrunner was struggling to negotiate with Jack Frost in the video).
3. Am I understanding this right, or do you actually need a spell (in this case, Mappa) to actually see the in-game map when exploring dungeons?
If so, that sounds cancerous as fuck. I was wondering why the first 30-40 minutes didn't have any in-game map to help players explore these samey looking rooms with nothing in the way of environmental landmarks to help them keep track of where they are. Then I reached about 48 minutes in and the player used a Mappa spell, which made the in-game area map appear on the side of the screen (which doesn't exactly help that much since the monotonous environment design is atrocious, but at least it aids the player in keeping their bearings in these labyrinths).
4. Good to see that some demons have maintained their design. Thor for instance hasn't worn any pants since day one.
5. I get that this is a PS1 port of a game from 1992, but couldn't they have given different spells their different particle animations instead of having all of them just make enemies vibrate?
>>
>>556274475
>Demon negotiation was just as cancerous and seemingly random back then as it is now
There's technically "right" answers but those are still dependant on RNG, same for the "wrong" answers that can still succeed if you're lucky enough.
>Am I understanding this right, or do you actually need a spell (in this case, Mappa) to actually see the in-game map when exploring dungeons?
Mappa is for the mini map in dungeons.
There's a bigger map that you need to unlock early on, and the only way to consult it is to open the menu and select the option every time.
The PSX port add a dedicated button for it.

>but seriously; you didn't know that Metatron's theme in Nocturne was a remix of the OG Law theme?
Nocturne was my first SMT game. Still, even then, I figured that the game likely had some themes that were remixes of older tracks (all franchises do that, after all), though I didn't know Metatron's OST roots go that far back all the way to the original game.
>>556275009
Well, if they ever do a modern 3D remake of SMT1, I hope they either improve the dungeon design (so that maps are completely unnecessary and you can just rely on visual cues and landmarks for navigation) or, if they keep the tile-based design, make it so that the bigger map doesn't require opening a menu every single time to show it (like maybe hold L2 or something to see the map transparency like in other franchises).
Though really, I hope they actually do improve on the environments in any case. Most of these environments you explore look like different variations of the Backrooms.
>>
>>556275267
I don't even like Demeter but the design on the right is particularly horrendous.

The issue is not America, the issues are the nukes.
Japan is rather sensitive about the subject and it's even worse today because their relations with China (who also has nukes) is... complicated to say the least
>>
>>
>>
>>555852792
>>556242048
Got the sauce on these particular screenshots?
>>556247123
I'm pretty much hoping for anything SMT-related that isn't Nu-Persona. Whether it be remasters or rereleases of Raidou 2, the Digital Devil Saga duology, SMT 1, SMT 2, SMT if, SMT NINE, Strange Journey, IV/IV: Apocalypse, Last Bible, Majin Tensei/Ronde, Devil Summoner, Soul Hackers 1, Devil Survivor, Giten Megami Tensei, Maken X or whatever else.
>>
>>556287312
In a different time. Japan is twice as sensitive about war and nukes than they were when smt1 came out. And right now the Japanese government thinks the USA is the only thing saving them from China nukes because of their pointless little back and forth over Taiwan. They are also scared of North Korea nuking them. And they were already sensitive during the IV era because they were still mad at China but IV handles the nukes differently. It's something that happened in the past, it's post apocalyptic. SMT1 has you go through the political fallout and panic in real time before the nuke hits and the Japanese who aren't old fags are going to wince at it.
>>
So now I'm looking at SMT2 gameplay videos.
SMT2 already looks like a massive improvement over SMT1 in terms of visuals.
For one, I'm seeing a TON more environment variety instead of the samey background shit that plagued SMT1.
Plus, different attacks in battle actually have different particle effects instead of just having the enemy vibrate in the same way regardless of what you use.
Gameplay pacing also seems faster.
So I became interested in playing it. I watched this guy's video to see which version is the best.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmwJgXhdszY
It seems like it's a toss-up between the SNES and the PS1 versions, with the only major downsides of the PS1 version being (1) long load times even when doing simple shit like fusing demons and going in and out of battle, and (2) the lack of an English translation.
I guess I'm going with the SNES version? Unless of course someone has managed to make a fan translation patch of the PS1 port.
The GBA port apparently has dogshit music and muddy visuals.

My problem is it removes demon fusion which really propells Megaten heavily in terms of enjoyment with a more generic system that requires MAG grinding to get required skills with transfer that is also more limited since many bosses are tailored around certain resistances. It doesn't help the row system has so much happening per turn that it becomes draining with how long certain fights can be. I wish the turn based combat could be skipped since it's much worse than the real time. I don't know if mod anon in the /meta/ thread will make it a mod or not.
It doesn't help around that time I played a game where it's racism was more interesting with how it was presented with it's lore and concepts of generational trauma.

That's what makes it bad though. It was better without those extra steps being bloat. I mean you get a class you have to customize and every class you have to customize for every character when in DDS you can just customize the character directly and go into any path you want for how much you want and it's easy to reconfigure everything once unlocked.

Anybody know when the Nintendo Stream is?I swear the switch 2 is gonna be like the switch 1 for me where every third party is going to have a bad launch before being ported to PC with improvements the originals needed. This has happened to me 3+ times in the switch's life span. But if they announce SMT6 I will probably get a switch 2 at some point instead of skipping it.

Sega did bring up the fact that people are buying games less because they know a definitive version will come later so maybe they're cracking down on it, but I suppose we won't know for sure until SMT/Persona6 and 7 release without a definitive edition in between

But at the same time did prove how effective propaganda is on "democracy". Elections should be about qualifications and not ideals. How much you understand engineering, social economics, and infrastructure. Will's cabinet of advisors (the allies you make through the game) are all unqualified to really change or improve anything. And while there is a narrative about leaving those with deep pockets and those with connections to religion out of higher office, they also aren't gone and there is no one to keep them in check besides Will's promise to do better. The chance that Will's monarchy will fail is high and it will be pushed onto someone else who will also talk about big ideas without knowing how to execute them because he lacks any real expertise. How to make a utopian society irl has already been theorized and it starts with engineers leading and economists only there to provide advice with no leverage to force their big business ideas. Always focus on improving infrastructure and working conditions and your issues with racial inequality will diminish over time.

They didn't show P4 either. It's just like the new years messages confirmed. There is nothing close to finished at Atlus right now. All we have is Doi's word from an interview about when he'll talk about V again as the only hope we might see something, literally anything from them for a while.
>>
Say what you will about how much Capcom has declined from their 1990s/2000s glory days. In between their major releases, at least they still have a steady output of remakes, remasters and ports.
Meanwhile, Fatlus can't even be assed to do 2-3 remakes/remasters/ports per year, even though they have tons of games that could use that treatment, especially in SMT.
And as a Vanillaware fan, it still makes me mad that Fatlus hasn't forced Vanillaware at gunpoint to port games like Dragon's Crown and Muramasa Rebirth to PC. Even Xbox only has Unicorn Overlord but no other Vanillaware game.
Dragon's Crown could be a PERFECT Switch game. I could easily see it selling 3-4 million copies even though it's 16 years old. Yet it's not on Switch.
What the fuck is Shitlus doing?
They have such a big library of older games that they could be reselling via ports, remasters and remakes. And yet they're barely putting in the effort.
>>
>>556366396
They're bringing PS1 games to the Nintendo Switch via "Console Archives". This means Atlus will likely bring their PS1 library to the system in the future. The only issue though is that it the west, we're only getting Revelations and EP. Nothing else.

We all know SMT6 is going to be another 3D game in the same vein as VV and Nocturne.
Hypothetically speaking though, could a new mainline SMT game that essentially goes back to its roots of being a first-person dungeon tile crawler actually be successful in this day and age?
>>
>>556382640
So I know a bit about the subject:
Wizardry remastered and the EO remasters did a lot less than other JRPGs/Dungeon Crawlers since they are much more niche on Steam.
Wizardry 1 remake has made an estimated 260,000 USD in sales. (basically doing the estimated player count and averaging it across different sites, multipling by 50% off the sale price and halving it for the 30% steam cut and the 20% refunds/taxes So it's A*'1/2'C/2). Wizardry remake did around 50k copies.
EO 1 HD on Steam alone did 670k copies sold which is close to 3,350,000. Not even counting EO 2+3 or the bundle (which is most likely a majority of the sales instead of people buying individually, but EO1 has the biggest estimated sale counts as people would buy the first game in the series and only buy the rest through the bundle if they like it).
So either way you look at it, there is a massive different between the two biggest recent games in the genre for sales. An actual multi-million dollar difference.
>>
>>556382640
>Could a new mainline SMT game that essentially goes back to it's roots of being a first-person dungeon tile crawler actually be successful in this day and age?
Hell no, especially with VV and nocturne being two of the best selling games in the franchise, dungeon crawlers don't sell, and Atlus doesn't want to go bankrupt... again.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>556384145
To go into this more, 554k for EO2 HD and 129k for EO3 HD.
2,770,000 USD for EO2 and 645,000 USD for EO3.
I also used 10 dollars as the base price to count for inflation changes, bundle discounts, normal discounts, key resellers, etc instead of the default 40 USD pricetag. Purely since the pricetag for each individual game is different when bought in a bundle due to the heavy discounting. I did this the same with EO1.
This leads to the rough, undercut, estimate of the EO trilogy being remastered being around 6,765,000 USD from Steam Alone.
Console sales are much more secretive compared to Steam, but it is fair to assume most sales are from the PC and switch versions. So the total amount would be realistically closer to 30-40% of the total revenue of the games being on PC and the rest on console.
This means realistically it's between 12-19 million in sales. Did I also mention the second most popular game in the genre that recently released did around 260k?
Touhou Artificial Dream in Arcadia did 196k in sales which means it might have made over 490,000 in USD. But that isn't accounting for it's drastic sales where it could have been gotten for less than 1 dollar instead of the base of 5 I am using for the calculation. Which means it did around 245,000-490,000 in USD.
Either way you look at it, there is a massive difference between when Atlus does something and when anybody else does it.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>556385340
To go even further with this, let's look at Meta and Reload which are around 1-1.4 million owners each. This leads to a rough estimate being 15,000,000 for each game on PC alone in USD, and closer to 37-50 million across all platforms.
Persona 5 has an estimated 3-4 million owners on steam. This leads to the estimated profits on Steam being from 20 million to 40 million. This leads the total sales from Persona 5 being closer to 50-70 million dollars.
When you look at the bigger picture of Fatlus, it makes a little sense why they would prefer certain types of games over others. Money too big not to.
SMT is weird since 484k for VV on Steam and 383k for Nocturne on Steam. (I don't want to type out the equation again, so I'm merging both) Overall combined they made around 36,800,000 to 49,066,667 USD. So that 12-19 million number is quite small even for SMT modern standards for Atlus titles.
>>
>>556386248
TL:DR:
Atlus could make bank off the niche, as they lead the genre, but they won't since they are trying to be optimal. They will dump SJR one day on Steam and modern consoles as a remaster and make 10+ million from it alone across all platforms.

It is interesting to note the worst selling EO game on Steam sold more than SH2 and some Persona spinoffs like Tactica. EO1 HD did 3x of what SH2 did. Technically most websites will say P5S made more than Reload/Metaphor by 300k copies on Steam. Arena Ultimax did 420k copies owned, but a vast majority are on PC instead of the 30-40% I was used since it never even went in the top 100 games sold on release on consoles, which means the overall profit is much lower compared to VV/Nocturne for example.
This is a bunch of autism anyways, but I didn't include any public deals with Gamepass (service is dead anyways). Or leaked info like with Xbox purchasing the rights for Reload and Tactica on game pas for 2 million for a year. We just don't know all of the information.
With all of this information, you would think Atlus would be porting more games as they are proven to sell more than new titles, but they aren't. Or they would make more games like Arena/Strikers, but nope.

Atlus can't force Vanillaware to do anything with their older games, contrary to popular belief they don't own Vanillaware. All they can do is refuse to publish whatever new games they might make unless they port it. And even in that case Vanillaware could just go to some other publisher, like NIS again.

Atlus being bought out by SEGA was the worst thing that could've happened and now you're seeing the results.
SEGA only sees Atlus as the Persona machine, nothing more and nothing less. Despite being the Persona machine, no effort is made to even remotely indicate that P6 is coming any time soon. For at least 10 years now btw.
P3R is their first ever "proper" remake work (in the vein of actually redoing a previously existing game from the ground-up and not just cleaning up models and upscaling textures or adapt the UI to a different console) and while it did fine and it tells Atlus that there's interest in remakes of older games, they seem to be abusing this by remaking P4 of all fucking things when it wasn't even TOP 3 in their most desired remakes. They're doing it because P4 was already asset reusage from P3 even back on the PS2.
They could do the absolute bare, BARE minimum of "remastering" DDS given that it runs on the same fucking Nocturne/Raidou engine and they still won't fucking do it, because it's "not Persona".
SEGA investors only cares about profits, persona, persona profits, and whatever can appeal to the PERSONA consumer base. Atlus is whipped like a dog afraid of bankruptcy so they just sit on their ass making Persona 5 dog bowls hoping it gives them money because taking risks again like in the 2000s would be too much effort
>>
>>556402054
sure but eng will is really bad and eng gallica is trying way too hard to do an anime voice. everyone else in eng is a theater actor and sounds good. i think the problem is just with american vas for some reason.
>>
>>556402867
I can see why Will could get on people's nerves especially with the non stop grunting he does while moving around but Galica was great. She was one of the first voices in the game that stood out to me because of her delivery especially during soft spoken lines like when she's whispering. I am an English dub enjoyer that can name most VA's be ear and in my humble oppinion Galica's VA did an amazing job.
>>
>>
>>556403323
i just don't like eng gallica's performance. there's something unnatural about it. there's no other way i can put but as too anime sounding. like she's forcibly trying to put dramatization in her voice.

Slowly but surely all these random SMT1 characters who should've been one-offs get turned into recurring superboss figures or demons or some shit, it's stupid. Stephen, En no Ozuno, Alice. i don't understand how the fusion in SJ works, i know it doesn't have the usual skill inheritance like other SMT but looking from some gameplay video, it like when you fuse x and y demons, the z demon that comes out has some random skills that got inherited. like how do you know the additional skills that got added from that? i'm not talking about the source.

I *think* the game presets every fusion result with inheritable skills and they cannot be changed without using sources. Sources not only give out the skills inside them, they also reroll what skills can be inherited from the fusion ingredients.
