We've just had a tournament where players were more passive in neutral than even before and time frequently ran out. I think 20 seconds passed in a Bilal/Gosain round without a single button. I explained two threads ago why modern Tekken is more passive. T8 isn't the opposite of T7, it's just way more explosive and stupid when you do get hit.

Also T7 isn't hated by the community, it's the best selling game in the franchise and consistently grew the player base for 6 years straight. Despite its problems the vast majority of Tekken players enjoyed it.

hitman by design is not a 5050 stance because you have good coverage against everything it does, and it's also a not forced stance. lee already has a decent crouch mix (silver tail), this stance transition just gives him some more stuff to do. hitman is very much a "interact with me" stance, when you get hit by something and he goes into hitman you have to do something, but it's not a forced stance like lionheart where you're just guessing stand or crouch and one of the two players will fucking die if they're wrong
