Thinkin about fast edition
>What the heck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as A Hat in Time, Animal Well, Baba Is You, Balatro, Bat to the Heavens, Battle Brothers, Cave Story, Celeste, CrossCode, Cultist Simulator, Darkest Dungeon, Darkwood, Dead Cells, Disco Elysium, Environmental Station Alpha, FTL, Hades, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Hotline Miami, LISA, Lobotomy Corp, Loop Hero, Machinarium, Monster Train, Noita, Nuclear Throne, OFF, OneShot, Rain World, Shovel Knight, Slay the Spire, Starsector, Subnautica, Sunless Skies, The Witness, Void Stranger, etc., as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Pillars of Eternity, and Valkyria Chronicles. /jrpg/ is welcome. Idle, roguelite, shmup, 4x / RTS / city-builders, and RPGMaker games are cool too.
Mobile or consoles, Flash or Unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.
>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads, however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

Been playing Child of Light. It isn't an indie game but I am pretty sure it falls into the 'obscure games that don't have a home' category.
It's fun. I just got to the jail section.Fuck you Norah. I believed in you.

Yeah, I think it's the one I'm talking about. And it's integrated with the mod that lets you build a camp, forage for stuff etc. It was a lot of fun but also I'm not sure if it would have worked better if the gameworld was bigger with more wilderness.
>>556117279
I can't decide if this is a good thing, to teach young people early on that a democracy relies on them making their voices heard, or if it's bad because it equates protesting in a video game with protesting irl. And it's kind of like people who sign 10 petitions each day and then don't ACTUALLY do anything to improve their communities
>>
>>
>>556076545
Yep that part hit me good. I wonder how much of that reflects the actual development of the game, or maybe previous projects the devs had
>>556070783
I like how the game takes decisions you made while playing and "retcons" them onto your pre-amnesia life.
Also I always feel a little called out by becomeing the sorry cop. I don't necessarily want to play an apologetic person, but I feel it's appropriate to apologize to the people whose shit you've wrecked while blackout drunk
>>
>>556125690
>menace and inconvenience the public
we can discuss about what types of protests are helpful or harmful to which causes, but people having and making use of the right to assemble and protest is one of the fundamental pillars of democracies
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>556125694
>Also I always feel a little called out by becomeing the sorry cop.
You've inherited the life of a dude had been an absolutely unbearable asshole to literally anyone around him and the game calls you out when you actually apologize to people for making their life miserable, it's a bit of a curveball. I told the voices to fuck off and I've been actively avoiding saying sorry unless it was strictly necessary
I wonder if there's a moral behind it.
>>556128530

>>
>>
>>556128704
>I wonder if there's a moral behind it.
I'm not a liberal arts major so I can't properly put it into words, but I think one interpretation I like could be something along the line of your conviction being tested: can you stick to apologizing to the people you've wronged even if the game makes fun of you for it?
At least that's how I see one of the comments the game makes about politics, where no matter which side you choose (including choosing no side) the game WILL make fun of you and paint a caricature of that ideology. And if that's something that offends you, maybe that should be some food for thought.
Something along those lines maybe.

In my country blocking public infrastructure is illegal and a protest requires legal approval so that law enforcement can shut down the roadways along the agreed upon route at the agreed upon time instead of you just walking into the street, harassing and impeding people.
Thankfully, my constitution doesn't say you can just attack people because you want to "protest".
>>
>>556129269
>the game WILL make fun of you and paint a caricature of that ideology.
I mean, the game does that a lot but I found the kingdom of conscience to be kind of okay overall as a belief
oh wait
>The Kingdom of Conscience will be exactly as it is now. Moralists don't really *have* beliefs. Sometimes they stumble on one, like on a child's toy left on the carpet. The toy must be put away immediately. And the child reprimanded. Centrism isn't change -- not even incremental change. It is *control*. Over yourself and the world. Exercise it. Look up at the sky, at the dark shapes of Coalition airships hanging there. Ask yourself: is there something sinister in moralism? And then answer: no. God is in his heaven. Everything is normal on Earth.
Okay they make fun of you for that as well. Dang.
I still think it's a good choice though.

That doesn't really contradict what I'm saying. The retard I was replying to seems to equate all forms of protests. I say that the right to protest is very important and that it's a discussion worth having how much a protest should be able to inconvenience the public, which kinds of protests are helpful or harmful etc etc. Obviously not a discussion that will be possible here
Even the legal protests you are talking about do block public infrastructure and inconvenience the public

>inconvenience the public doesn't help anyone.
Anon, what do you think protests are? Protests are to disrupt. They're not just to say: "I disagree with the thing". They are there to show people that they are serious about disagreeing, that they are willing to come out of their homes for it, and they are designed to interrupt.
And yes, they are also designed to inconvenience people. Because it makes them aware: "Oh I can't take that street the people are protesting for X/Y/Z today".
Like, the other day I protested in my living room, that there are too many dirty dishes in my sink. How much have you heard about the dishes in my sink? Nothing. Because a protest that doesn't inconvenience anyone, a protest that doesn't at least slightly interrupts daily life, is not really much of a protest. A protest that doesn't inconvenience, is a protest that can be easily ignored.
that's just how it is.

Not sure what to think, all you see in the trailer is blood, but no "gore", just gallons of blood.
Is this like a stealth thing? An action thing?
>>
>>556151817
"Make life worse for everyone else" isn't actually a definitional requirement for a protest.
Someone making me aware of something by making my life worse despite me having no connection to whatever they're complaining about is just about the best way to make me vote for whoever is going to sweep them off the street faster.
How about you attack the livelihoods of the people you have grievances with instead of random regular people.
>>
>>
>>556152927
It's not a requirement, but it's a requirement to be effective. Again: You do not hear about the protests that are out of the way.
>How about you attack the livelihoods of the people you have grievances with instead of random regular people.
Not always a possibility. It happens too, for sure. People not wanting radioactive trash in their countries are chaining themselves to train tracks to interrupt transports, for instance.
But again: these protest are in part to make the public aware, and to gain support, that is needed to take the people who are the actual problem, down.
Take the people who throw soup at paintings for instance. Do they think they are going to stop global warming by destroying paintings (or more accurately: throwing soup at protective glas in front of paintings)? No. They know that attacking priceless art gets them in the news, and gets people to talk about their issue.
You can inconvenience the CEO of an oil company all day long, He's just gonna get into a private helicopter and fuck off. So you need to protest in a way that convinces enough people that the oil change is bad, so that laws can be changed.
>is just about the best way to make me vote for whoever is going to sweep them off the street faster.
Yeah, that's always a risk, and there are quite a lot of low empathy people like that, who rather than think about the underlying problem, would prefer to get rid of the issue that is in front of them right now. But of course these people hope that they reach more reasonable individuals.

How sheltered are you?
How do you imagine a non-disruptive protest? Getting more than 10 people together on a street corner is disruptive/inconveniencing the public, let alone having a few hundreds march down the street for an afternoon.

I am serious anon.
I understand the criticism but I think the looks are a bit misleading here, I should've guessed that. Gameplay-wise, it’s closer to RimWorld, Oxygen Not Included, or even Frostpunk. There is no combat. You don’t manage colonists individually, you create tasks at buildings, and colonists take those jobs themselves. Sanity isn’t a fatal need like hunger, but it causes colonists to gain or lose traits. When sanity is low, they may gain insanity traits, when it’s high, they gain sanity related traits. There is some automation (but it’s not an autism simulator).
>>
>>556174009
>Isn't it basically an idle clicker game?
It has a crude strategy combat thingy, and the other part of the game is more like a city builder. But then half the game is a clicker too. So I really don't know where this mashup of genres belong to.

I mean yeah, technically? But I don't really count that, in the same way I don't count Tower Defense and RTS games. In these games turrets are more your regular "base defense" while your main gameplay is something else. Oh and tower defense of course is technically turrets, but that's more about solving the puzzle of building right, than running around and killing stuff by plopping down turrets. Sounds dumb but in my brain there's a difference.

I'm sure I could have had an easy time with any of the other paths but multistrike chief and banished was just perfect

Yeah stacking like 3+ effects on each character + enemy effects on them plus the room effect makes things a bit messy. I can read whats happening and it looks cleaner in motion but that really means nothing because I ran the damn thing. Really wish they gave an option to tone down the effects a little but oh well

Dang. What puzzle? Know that much shit is a problem of impatience and a mobility of thinking problem and not a stupidity problem.
I mean you CAN be too stupid for BIY but most people self diagnose wrongly.

Imagine someone edits the official files somehow to include sexual indoctrination. Your child is now a permanently programmed victim available for criminals to abuse.
Except in this case it's not sexual indoctrination, it's being a public menace that redirects violence away from the guilty leadership and towards the actually innocent uninvolved neighbors.
Keep your children away from the internet and you'll keep them safe from all harms brought about by other people, you fucking retards.

Alright! Finally back to this fucking level after it either filtered me or it was glitched, idk, and I accidentally wiped my save while drunk because the save select screen is wierd.
The contraption I built last timeproduced an effect seen no where else in the game where an arrow gets actually *ripped out* and leaves a stub behind.
Idk what was up with that. Felt like a glitch. I've bug reported loads of levels for this game before.

Eh, I was mostly just joking and am still playing it. Nearly all of the ones I have gotten stuck on were because I got confused by obtuse wording and how unintuitive effects can be at a glance. For example sink causing certain items labeled with it to sink along with the stuff you put into it instead of just working like an item garbage can kind of threw me for a loop.
I am too used to traditional puzzle games I guess.

Okay now I'm mad. This level is fucking *solved* but for some unfathomable reason the machine decides to infinitely fire and stop me from stepping off of it. Fuck this level.
>>
Wait... actually no it might not be solved. If this machine worked, how would I end up burning the belongings once I was over there? I don't know if I could. Well, It depends on if I could burn that bottom box, ash it by steping on the belongings above it, then burn the talls. Iirc belongings can be burned if they are two spaces above the fire, but not three? I forget.

New tech I'm dropping:
Tech tri force. Low tech Shield shunted onslaught is weak to missiles: Have a high tech paladin anubis escort it, and a midline monitor can run distraction. They act like a single ship, in symbiosis.
It's not done yet, but this is much more interesting than triple paragon to me!
Also someone called me a "Starsector baby" before and that might be true but I've done nothing but play this game for a month. It's like the factorio crack addiction all over again.

Yatta! Holy shit I hated that level.
I found two possible starting states to the puzzle but;
-one should work but leads to something utterly retarded for an arrowed box to do, from arbitrary box priority and, apparently, already-stuck-arrow-breakability that is never before indicated to the player
-and the other also should work but it just up and freezes your game for no good reason.
The intended solution IS to be fair perfectly valid but boy is thestickiness of your feetunintuitive. It's also something you'd be inclined to thinkwould break your grip, but doesn't.
I could have happened to try it first and all would have been well but the utter retardation of that first attempt somehow not working just melts your brain. It's even worse when you figure out the second starting state is possible and you get excited and the solution it leads to WORKS with the caveat it locks you into some unwarranted infinite loop so lmao you can't burn your shit.
It was the the first starting state all along.
This level can go die in a hole.

>barely crawling corpse with missing limbs suddenly moves 10m backwards without any muscle exerting that force
I knew the game was jank but I didn't know it was jank in that particular way.
Stuff like that could have been easily avoided if the ragdolling procedural animation/physics system was implemented the other way around. Should have generated character locomotive force from the physics of the IK animation instead of simplistic movement controller applying force and then the animation system tries to do something that looks the part. I genuinely thought they had a system like that in place because the movement is so fucking janky--there's no other reason for it. But it seems like the character entities have very basic movement controllers at their core, fundamentaly no different from how the simplest 2D platformer works. You press a button, a force is applied in a predefined direction. All the ragdolling jank is just tacked on top to hide the underlying system. It's all just smoke and mirrors. You get all the jank of a fully physics-based system, but few of the benefits.

I think this is one of my favorite parts so far, where you're actually stuck climbing a vertical wall for probably half the day with no plateaus to rest and reset your pitons from.
Except that I don't understand why they decided to throw cutscenes into some of these climbing sections. I get that it might make sense story wise to have some of these things happen while she's in the middle of climbing, but gameplay wise it sucks

I wish I would have set some more time aside for this. Playing it in short bursts just doesn't hit the same.
Though to be honest, occasionally I also take breaks because some parts can be a bit frustrating. Resetting into a good climbing position after falling can be really fidgety for some reason

My biggest concern is that while "perpetually dark world where you need to create light to survive" sounds neat this kind of thing is usually a gimmick that barely matters past the early game, since it typically ends up boiling down to needing fuel/electricity which you'd want anyway (same with most games where the gimmick is surviving the cold), Especially if you're not going full logistics autism sim with it.
Personally I also feel like it would sell the premise more if the art style had some more contrast to it, like darker shadows or something. Apart from a few parts most of the video seems very well lit.

Finished the last of the extra puzzles in Occlude, took me something like 30 hours to chew through all of them. The writing was kind of cheesy but I really enjoyed it as a lifelong solitaire player. Kind of a fun pairing playing this alongside TR-49 because they have similar themes.

>to reach the Golden Ending, you must randomly murder this creature that is nothing but nice to you
Why? I refuse. I didn't even like killing Gor but at least she wanted to die. And unlike the Void Lords who have aeons of crimes for them Tail stopped killing people the moment they got a conscience. Even let me touch her boobs.
