I don't know why this thread keeps circling back to the same tired shipping bullshit, but let's get one thing straight right now: Shadouge is a complete joke of a pairing that spits in the face of everything Sega has ever established about these characters. Shadougefags act like it's some deep, meaningful bond built on mutual respect and equals, but that's just them projecting their delusions onto a dynamic that's barely even "occasional allies" at best. This ship doesn't hold up under any scrutiny from the games or even the goddamn localizations, and the more they try to force it, the clearer it becomes that they all hate both characters and just want to warp them into fanfic fantasies.
Rouge is a manipulative tart who'll flirt with anyone if it gets her what she wants. You think her sultry lines to Shadow mean anything special? She's done the same shit with Knuckles, Espio, even Tails gets a kiss in Sonic Battle while Shadow just gets hit. In Sonic X, she straight up traumatizes him by dragging up his Maria memories just to trick him for her own gain. That's not love, that's exploitation. And don't give me that "tsundere" crap, Rouge isn't being playful, she lies to his face. Their relationship doesn't go beyond using each other when it suits them.
Rouge was also literally designed to complement Knuckles. She's got a crush on him in all the SoJ material, chasing his cock whenever she can. You have to dig into noncanon drivel to even pretend Shadouge has legs, and that's embarrassing. It doesn't look good, doesn't feel earned, and it sure as shit isn't romantic. The real kicker is how much Shadougefags hate the characters deep down. They refuse to engage with the canon that establishes their bond as nothing more than reluctant teamwork, built by accident if at all. But keep seething and wanking over those few ambiguous moments while ignoring the mountain of evidence against it. Douge hate isn't cringe, it's based, because the ship is peak delusion. Yeah, it's been said the past few threads that they're obviously going forward with the Japanese characterizations* in Frontiers, almost across the board. Clearly it was the case that the Japanese expected better things out of Ian Flynn but realized late in development that they seriously needed to tardwrangle him and hastily wrote a "corrected" Japanese script that could match the English-fit animations. If there's ever a Forces remaster, I bet they'll rewrite the English to match the Japanese for characterization synergy.

*With the possible exception of Knuckles, who (EN) wants to get off his island more often or (JP) wants to research more on his people; EN Knuckles is one of the few that's more flexible with future story opportunities and was reused without being shat on in Tailstube Newyear.
