The AI seems adamant that you can implement an IIR Gaussian blur filter in shader and keeps giving me non-working completely broken code for such. Meanwhile my understanding of the algorithm is that it's obscenely linear where each pixel depends on the pixels preceeding it having already been blurred, which means it'd be the worst possible fit for a shader.

One year ago, I tried to start my game dev journey, and failed.
After 9+ months of learning the process, not only do I now know how to use all the software, but I also know exactly the type of game I'm going to make.
I already have the artstyle nailed down, the "hook" planned, it's innovative enough without being weird, it's ambitious enough without being delusional but also not short enough to be a 5 hour game.
It fits all the criteria of the perfect goyslop that Chris Zukowski says is needed in order to make a successful indie game.
And I even already have the capsule art completely planned out in my head. I've, however, come to the realization that don't know how I'll create the sound effects for the game or the music, as I know nothing about audio.
If everything works out within three years (I think I can make it in a year and a half, so I'm applying the rule that it takes double that) I will be a millionaire (as in at least a million). Screengrab this.

It looks like absolute mess. Too much shit on screen with tiny details, noise and too many textures.
At least the ugly desaturating distance fog isn't as bad anymore. AO makes the artstyle feel inconsistent because smaller plants have darker shades than massive trees. Also there's no way the water's surface no matter how dirty could be darker than deeper side of the tree.
The stone blocks have nice rim shades but hardly anything else does.
There's some good lighting going on in the bottom of the screen, you should use that to fake ray tracing light reflected off the purple water.

Added doors that open when all the buttons of the door's color are pushed. This took a lot more effort than I expected. Along the way, I did a sizable refactor and ended up adding the ability to control multiple instances of the same player character later, which will come in handy in the future. My PC crashed about an hour ago and I lost the level setup I used to test this, so no video demonstration this time, just trust me on this.

So each year the amount of "successful" games (500+ reviews) generally goes up, with a slight dip in 2025. Why is this bleak at all? Just compare your game to the several hundred very successful games that come out each year on Steam (1000+ reviews) and be honest about comparing your own. It really isn't that much harder today than 10 years ago. You just need to be in the top handful of games released each week that are not triple AAA/indie AAA (you're not competing with them anyways).

You using OBS to record? Even on other PC's the recordings completely come back with incorrect colors and almost exclusively only to the red, pink, and purple color palette.

When I push against another player character with my player character, I push the other character in a weird, bumpy/jerky way. Both player characters have a rigid body component with iskinematic turned on. They have smaller sphere/ capsule colliders in their bodies for hit detection.
Why does this happen, anons? A character controller shouldn't move another character controller if rigidbody is kinematic, right?

The swing code wasn't too hard to figure out since I had a general idea of what I needed to write. Knew that it needed to make a rotating/orbiting code for the X and Y to launch from. Clamped it so that it was more like a pendulum. After that I transfered the speed into the pendulum swing and just reduce it over time to slow it down. Sorry about the late reply, at work.

Because kinematic rigidbodies don’t respond to physics, but they do still generate contacts.
What’s happening:
With isKinematic = true, Unity won’t solve forces for the bodies
But collision resolution still happens at the collider level
When you move one character (usually via Transform or MovePosition), Unity tries to separate overlapping colliders
Since both are kinematic, there’s no clear “who yields”, so you get contact jitter / push-back oscillation
Why it feels bumpy:
Multiple small colliders amplify contact resolution
Each frame Unity slightly depenetrates you move again repeat
No velocity integration = no smoothing
Key misconception:
“Kinematic bodies shouldn’t move other kinematic bodies”
They won’t via forces, but they absolutely can via collision depenetration.
Common fixes:
Use CharacterController instead of Rigidbody for characters
Or make only one side dynamic (non-kinematic)
Or disable collisions between player layers and handle pushing manually
Or move kinematic bodies with Rigidbody.MovePosition, not transform.position
This is a classic Unity physics edge case, not a bug—just unclear semantics.

i fixed it by disabling character layer collision with hitdetection collider layer. The jerkiness problem started when I added a kinematic rigid body.
From what I understand, when the character collider bumps against the other player, it also hits the hit detection colliders, and there can be some overlap. With a rigid body, these collisions are processed in the physics loop, and the corrections are applied discreetly causing the jerky movement. So disabling collisions between the controller and hit detection colliders means the controller of my player hits the controller of the other player, which can be handled relatively smoothly, so I don't push the other player when I bump into him.
I don't really get it.

Small proggy.
Added a simple animation to the health bar when getting hit.
Also improved the face controller so I'm able to override facial expressions in player states so now the player opens the eyes before getting up after being knocked down instead of keeping them closed for the full duration of the hurt state.

Did some UI work on my game yesterday, I now owe it 6 hours which I'll make up for in the next few weeks. But what I was really happy with yesterday is learning how to sew on a button and repair a tear in a pocket. It's such a basic life skill but very satisfying to learn, what with it being so physical and practical. And yeah it's stupid simple, but I did throw out clothes in the past because the button fell off or my keys drilled holes in the pockets. The way things are going, I'll probably need to learn a few more practical physical skills soon.
